3x3 Eyes (OAV) Masterpiece There's a reason why this is rated Masterpiece, I've watched this anime so much there's a scratch on the DVD set I have. *sobs* I really love the characters and am fascinated by the aspect of immortality, and whether or not it would really be a curse (it is, in Yakumo's case ^^;).
3x3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon (OAV) Masterpiece Even more bloody than the first part (just watch the last episode); at the anti-climatic ending, it had me scrambling to get the manga so I would know what happened next. ^_^
A.D. Police (TV) Good Okay, I understand this is a prequel to Bubblegum Crisis 2040, but if what I've seen here is how efficient the A.D. Police usually are, I don't see why the Knight Sabers even bothered to assist them. Anyone who died on their task force was immediately forgotten beyond a few obligatory statements (poor Paul, everyone abandoned him). I'm convinced Hans and Kenji were doing it on the side even if they both had girlfriends (all those partner comments, so suspicious).
Actually, I Am… (TV) Good I feel I should have liked this series better, but it didn't do anything original beyond having an alien as a love interest and redefining a wolfman. It was like a mix of "Rosario+Vampire" and "Negima." Most of the comedy didn't work for me because it never went far enough, which is a shame considering what they had to work with. Supposedly, the manga is much better.
Adieu Galaxy Express 999 (movie) So-so Much like the first movie, I watched it on a bad tape and can't remember much at all, all I know is it was something to do with a kid traveling through space...
Afro Samurai (TV) Very good Okay, now I've seen it all, I liked it a lot. Then again, ultra-mega violence and sword fights make me happy in general (the only complaint I have is that the audio on the DVD was sort of messed up, some lines I could hear and others I had to rewind to comprehend, not my favorite activity in the world). Oh, and I hated Ninja Ninja, stupid fake bastard. -_-;
Ah! My Goddess: The Movie So-so Way too slow, and preachy. The only thing I enjoyed was the beautiful visuals, the rest is pretty disposable if you ask me.
Ai no Kotodama (live-action movie) Decent If not for the smut, then the other reason I'm interested in yaoi is because it's interesting seeing how couples get together. So, this movie kind of bored me in regards to the fact you didn't see the couple's feeling come into play and they were already living together. Jealousy and fights abounded and I didn't care at all. Also it was too sweet for me, you never really saw them sleep together, it was too innocent.
Ai no Kusabi (OAV) Masterpiece Riki. Iason. Guy --->*stab, strangle, brutal kick in balls* This is a wonderful yaoi treat, complete with very effective bedroom scenes. The best, most definitely.
Akira (movie) Very good KANADA! Ahem, don't mind me. This was a very good movie, I particularly liked the character Tetsuo (crazy as he was), though I wish the anime had been as complicated as the manga.
(The) Ancient Magus' Bride (TV) Excellent So. Damn. Pretty. I really liked the story and characters. The worldbuilding is amazing. What I didn't like was all the stuff with Cartaphilus/Joseph. I'm a little confused on what his aim was, how exchanging body parts with Chise helped him out, how part of him ended up staying inside Chise to combat the dragon curse, etc. I'm hoping the manga explains all of the above in more detail. Still, I loved this series. It was so adorable and heartwarming to the nth degree. <3
(The) Ancient Magus' Bride: Those Awaiting a Star (OAV) Very good I'm glad I watched this after the main series, otherwise I would've been confused about the characters. The story was good, but a bit on the slow side. I enjoyed seeing Elias and Chise bond over books. They could read the newspaper together and I'd still watch them. So goddamn adorable. ^^;
Angel Sanctuary (OAV) Excellent If you aren't easily offended, you'll like this, the character designs are great, and nearly everything is crafted wonderfully...except the ending, it's one hell of a cliffhanger. What they should have done is made a TV series instead of an OAV.
Angel's Feather (OAV) Awful Very random and confusing, I had no fucking idea what was going on most of the time. Basically, all I watched this for was the bishies and on that, at least, they delivered (even if all of them were retarded). I pretty much assumed everyone had slept with each other once or twice judging by all the groping and nipple touching (rather hard to ignore said implications). If there's more to this, I will avoid it like the fucking plague, it was that hard to watch.
(The) Animatrix (OAV) Good Eight stories from diffferent directors, I only like about four of them total, but the anime's not a waste of time altogether. "A Detective Story" and "Program" are very worth watching.
Another (TV) Good I know they were going for a thriller feel, but most of the deaths were actually funny and I enjoyed the horror title nods (even John Saul, gasp!). I really wish though the first half of the series had been the same as the last half because the mystery failed horribly on all counts despite the promising start it had. Just gonna put it out there, why the fuck didn't Mei mention Reiko was dead the first time she attended Class 3?! She didn't think it would matter? That's bullshit. A lot of the logic behind the plot could been better explained by isolating the entire class somehow (who'd enroll their kid in a cursed school, seriously?) instead of using failed phone calls, retarded reasoning, and trying to create two separate identities for one person when it was fairly obvious they were one and the same. Argh, very frustrating.
Antique Bakery (TV) Excellent As I loved the original manga, it stands to reason I would like the anime as well. It's uniquely animated, the character designs are (mostly) top notch, and they pretty much follow the source material. Some of the jokes that didn't work in the manga work wonders in the anime (anytime Tachibana has to concede to Ono is hilarious). I just don't like the fact Tachibana's hair is gray and being tempted by those damn desserts (give them to me!). In all, a very good anime I'd definitely watch again. ^_^
Appleseed (movie) Good I really liked the animation and I enjoyed all the mythological names (but in a way, it was sort of spoiler-ish as well, because if you know your god and goddesses, you knew the fate of places and people). The story was pretty good and I did like most of the characters...yet the only thing that vastly impressed me was the animation (so pretty, *ji, ji*). I really wanted to see Brialeos in human form but they obviously didn't want to do that. Sigh.
Appleseed: Ex Machina (movie) Excellent Definitely an improvement over the original, much of the action and story were spot on (really fit my mood at the time). I enjoyed the dynamic between Briareos, Deunan and Tereus when they played nice with each other (too bad they couldn't just get together and make a hell of a threesome :p). Music was also quite good and the animation was pretty (as always), my favorite bit was the twist on the "zombies."
Aquarian Age - Sign for Evolution (TV) Good I wasn't very impressed with this at first, then as I watched beyond the first disc, It grew on me like a fungus. It has it's share of problems (read: the ending), but it's pretty amusing overall.
Ar Tonelico (OAV) Good Pretty animation, reminded me of an RPG game at times. Still, it was amusing, not much else to say since it was so short.
Araiso Private High School Student Council Executive Committee (OAV) Good Tokito and Kubota amuse me so, especially when there are others watching their little games and get the wrong idea. I liked the fact Fujiwara was tortured so much, he's annoying in both this anime and the drama CDs. Anyway, though I'm sure there are faults, I don't really care, I enjoyed it.
Arata The Legend (TV) So-so The breakneck pace of the story really cemented the series as mediocre. Character development is not present very much, and bringing in Kadowaki as a villain was too soon. He came off like a petulant brat in his neurosises, and it was annoying watching him rage. I will say the animation was beautiful even if the quality dipped a bit at times. Not to mention, after a while, all that talk about submitting...my mind took that to a dark place fast. ^^;
Arc the Lad (TV) Good Not bad, but it really felt like a video game. Not a surprise considering the anime was based off of them. It'd probably help if I had played one in the RPG series. My other complaints are it was very slow at times, a lot of the characters barely had personalities outside of their role (hero, kid, etc), and the story turned very pro-religion towards the end (annoyingly). I did love the mature material the plot integrated, a shame the elements surrounding it couldn't carry the emotional weight all through the series.
Argento Soma (TV) Excellent One of my favorites, mostly because the story is never one to become cliche, and I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially the man who quoted Shakespeare throughout the whole anime. ^_^
Arjuna (TV) Excellent Truly original, but certain elements bring the series down (like promoting saving the environment way too much >_>).
Armitage III (OAV) Very good One of my favorites, mostly for the action and slick animation, though I enjoyed the characters as well; the final battle at the end was simply beautiful.
Armitage: Dual-Matrix (movie) So-so Oh, no, robots are in trouble, and through our own stupidity, our daughter is dragged into the whole mess, mass fighting ensues! I have serious issues with this sequel, the character designs were ugly, the story predictable and did the team who made this forget Ross' body is 75% cybernetic (or near that)?! >_<
Armored Dragon Legend Villgust (OAV) Good It's all about that last fight (my mind was so in the Gutter at that point), but this turned out to be good despite the unoriginal story. Was amused to hear Usopp's seiyuu playing practically the same character. ^_^
Assemble Insert (OAV) Not really good Err, I mostly sat blankly through this, while the bad guys were amusing, I didn't really see the point of the anime.
Ayane's High Kick (OAV) Decent It was better than I anticipated though most of it was indeed very predictable. I would have loved to see Ayane use a new move to beat her opponents but clearly, she has no imagination. The only really funny thing about this anime was the fact that the character Usopp (aka Yamaguchi Kappei) played was named for him. In all, forgettable.
Azumanga Daioh (TV) Decent I'll say it simply, I only watched this for Kimura, the pedophile lit teacher, because I am amused as hell by his antics. In fact, if he had actually been my teacher in school, I'd have stalked him and watched closely as he tortured fellow school kids. :p
Azumanga Daioh - The Very Short Movie So-so Kind of pointless in my opinion with different character designs from the series. End comment.
B Gata H Kei - Yamada’s First Time (TV) Very good Oh my god, this series was hilarious. It was so bad, it turned quite good especially towards the end. Watching such a sex obsessed girl run around trying to get laid made me laugh until I cried. I would have loved to have seen Yamada actually get laid in the end, but as it was, it remains a really good anime. ^_^
Baccano! (TV) Masterpiece I always admire anime with complex story lines that intermingle in all sorts of ways and this one is a prime example (there's so much going on but it all makes sense, which you have to admit is damn impressive for the complicated story). The immortal bits intrigued me yet they did remind me of Highlander in a way (at least with some characters). I have to say I loved the entire cast of this anime, especially Vino (so violent, so thorough). This has definitely earned a place in my top ten, it was so fucking good (long live Issac and Miria ^_^).
Baldr Force EXE (OAV) Very good Awfully pessimistic for a sci-fi anime but it's rather amusing so I've got little to no complaints. The animation was kind of funky (at least in the Wired World) and some parts were a little predictable but I enjoyed the twists and turns in the story. They packed a lot into only four episodes (which is impressive). I definitely liked the whole Greek tragedy air about it.
Bartender (TV) Excellent Neil of Animania can bash it all he wants but I loved this anime, the history of the drinks is fascinating and I enjoyed nearly all of the customers' stories (that old man in the sea one was slightly annoying, I fucking hated that book). Of course, thanks to this, I now want to try each of the drinks they presented at least once; is it a bad thing if anime makes me want to become an alcoholic? ^^;
Basilisk (TV) Decent Two feuding clans and a pair of lovers caught between them. Oh, crap, this is Japan's version of Romeo and Juliet, isn't it? It's not quite as bad as I thought when I watched the first volume a while ago, just very violent with every ninja having a kind of superpower. I only really felt bad about Hyoma and Saemon's deaths, the rest I didn't care about. The series won me over in the end, but I'd have liked it a whole lot better if the two clan heads hadn't been determind pacifists. Their powers were wasted on them.
Batman: Gotham Knight (movie) Excellent I really loved watching this. Each story has a different animation style, and gives a great impression of Gotham overall as Batman goes through a typical day. Quite a surprise that Japan can do Batman right when they seem to be fucking up every other comic property.
Battery the Animation (TV) Not really good I tend to enjoy sports anime, but this one left me a bit cold. Most of that comes down to Takumi and his oh-so-grating haughty attitude. He acts like he's a god gift to baseball, yet he can only throw fastballs. The way Takumi's whipping was swept under the rag was extremely unrealistic (those students should have been expelled). The team spends 95% of their time in after-school practice instead of playing other teams, which makes it boring. I get it's a slice-of-life anime, but I can only be entertained by sports innuendos for so long before I mentally check out. Special thanks to the character Shun for making the last half of the anime bearable as it limped to its anti-climactic conclusion.
Battle Angel (OAV) Very good A short look into Gally's often tragic life, I had the displeasure of watching this dubbed first and her screeching will forever haunt me; subbed, this is pretty good. ^_^
Battle Arena Toshinden (OAV) Not really good I'm pretty sure this wasn't meant to be funny, but well, when you talk constantly of crossing swords and fighting, it isn't hard to take everything the wrong way (at least in the first half, the second was too cliche for me to make fun of so I stared blankly).
Be-Boy Kidnapp'n Idol (OAV) Not really good The comments the fansubbers put over the credits were more amusing than the show itself, which is telling if you think about it. Basically, the version I watched was very low quality and had hard to read subtitles so I didn't have the optimal viewing experience, not that the anime was that good but still, it's the principle of the thing. The character designs and some of the music was good but that was all.
Beautiful Bones: Sakurako’s Investigation (TV) Very good I love the look and feel of this anime, it's so pretty. As for the story overall, I'm sort of torn. The "murder mystery" aspect doesn't really set in until the last three episodes, and even then the anime ends before Sakurako faces the main villain. So it feels unfinished overall. Some elements of the show get a little too preachy for my taste, but I like pretty much everything else. The main characters in particular were well developed, and it was fun to follow them around. So, yeah, a good show, yet not without its faults.
Berserk (TV 1997) Excellent This compares in no way to the manga, but they did a very good job at making the series, and it's well worth watching as long as you can stomach the bad first episode and cliffhanger ending.
Berserk (TV 2016) Good I don't mean to kick a gift horse, but the animation is so half-assed, it's not even funny. The 3D CGI models and scenes are horrendous and painful to look at. In contrast, the regular hand-drawn parts look amazing. I really wish the production studio had lobbied for a bigger budget before animating. Even with that complaint, I'm glad to see the story picked up beyond The Golden Age arc. The latter arcs are excellent and while there's some cutting and condensing, it's not very noticeable except where Guts' character development is concerned. He is a complicated man and you only really see him fight and brood. In any case, so looking forward to the next season in 2017. I missed having Berserk in my life.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King (movie) Very good It does really well at adapting the manga, but the animation can be off-putting with the blend of traditional 2D and 3DCG. I mean, Guts' sword was CG at one point, which was stupid. The rotoscoping in particular drove me nuts. I love everything else though, character designs and such were great. Although I'd have preferred Toshiyuki Morikawa return for the movies. I miss his deep rendition of Griffith, Takahiro Sakurai (good as he is) just doesn't compare.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II - The Battle for Doldrey (movie) Very good The battle sequence ran a bit long and that damn rotoscoping is so distracting especially during the ball dancing. Again, the story is really good (yay source material), but I do think by cutting out parts of Guts and Griffith's pasts, some of their character development is stunted. You barely get a hint just how long Griffith has been manipulating others to achieve his dream. It's frustrating because a longer running time would really help flesh out the inconsistencies of the plot.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc III - The Advent (movie) Excellent Whew, doggy, that was indeed something. This is definitely my favorite of the trilogy because it took its time bringing the doom and gloom. There was no sense of missing key bits here and there. As the result, The Eclipse is rendered beautifully tragic. Griffith's demonic actions and Guts' ever increasing rage is just wonderful. The post-credit scene with the dead eyes of Guts was nice as well. Yeah, the animation still had problems, but the awkward parts didn't stand out as much. Well worth watching really.
(The) Betrayal Knows My Name (TV) Decent Basically a mix of "X" and "Mirage of Blaze." The execution is slow and a bit boring, but got the job done. I have big issues with Yuki, who is sadly the main character of the series. Everyone thinks he's such a special snowflake and loves him senselessly. If Yuki knows taekwondo, why the fuck doesn't he use it? He has no excuse for acting like a damsel in distress if he has the means to protect himself. I also am very annoyed that for an anime with BL themes, everyone in a relationship with a guy doesn't actually do anything with their partner. No kisses even! I want smut, dammit. >_< I wonder if the manga is better, but I certainly wouldn't pay to read it. In all, I wish the protagonist wasn't so wishy-washy, the anime had been much shorter, and that all characters, instead of a small handful, had actually been given personalities. Quite disappointed with the end result. -_-
Bible Black (OAV) Good There wasn't anything objectionable in this, which surprised me and I was rather amused by the mass amount of rape that Kitami dished out. The ending was predictable and it took too long for them to reveal it but the magic element really did make things more interesting even if I would have preferred it if Minase had remained on the dark side. If I ever saw this cheap, I'd probably buy it.
Bible Black Origins (OAV) Very good Nice tight story and somewhat deep characters, all I can say is never piss off a Japanese school girl. I still like the dark magic element and it was interesting seeing everything the coven did, the school even backed them to an extent. The origin story really does explain why Kitami was so fucked up and how large her drive to survive was.
Big Windup! (TV) Excellent You know, I really didn't expect, but it turned out to be interesting. I'm convinced the two people in charge of the team are trying to turn everyone gay, especially Abe and Mihashi (they should totally get together already, all the hints are there *eyes shift*). The technical aspects of baseball are fascinating, and made watching through the baseball games are the more fun. Yay for baseball anime! I'm totally tracking down the sequel. ^_^
BioHunter (OAV) Very good I have a particular liking to this somewhat hentai title, and I even like the dub, which is surprising really.
Black Blood Brothers (TV) Very good I ended up enjoying this a lot more than I expected (Zelman amuses the hell out of me), but I feel like I was only handed half of the story. I understood the overall plot and found it satisfactory yet I've got tons of questions about the anime's premise and Jirou's backstory (among other things). For five hours though, it was fun.
Black Butler (TV) Excellent For the most part, I really enjoyed this series. If you cut out Pluto, and a few of the filler episodes, my rating would have definitely gone up to Masterpiece. As it is, I was enthralled by the storyline, and I loved the ending. It was beautiful, and not what I expected from the dark plot. I'm a bit dubious about watching the second season since Ciel appears to be dead, but given how much I love the series (both the anime and manga), I'll probably do it anyway. ^^;
Black Butler (live-action movie) Excellent Wow. I went into this blind, only knowing that Victorian England was being left out of it. Color me shocked and surprised that despite the changes, the movie stands on its own really well. It was beautifully shot and the clothes were so damn pretty. The CG wasn't invasive and I was into the story and characters. The only bit I didn't like was the implication that Sebastian was a reincarnation of Shiori's father/a former angel. I prefer Sebastian to be wholly demonic. Other than that, a stellar effort that succeeded, I would love to see a sequel someday.
Black Butler II (TV) Masterpiece Fucking awesome! From the first episode to the last (with the very evil and fitting ending). I laughed evilly for about five minutes after I'd finished watching the series. I think I'd have to say I like it almost more than the first season. Who doesn't love seeing Ciel win out in all possible ways? Poor Sebastian. I'd be overjoyed if the manga had the same conclusion. ^_^
Black Butler II (OAV) Excellent Excellent stories though I think a lot more could have been done with the Wonderland episodes. Maybe I'm just tired of seeing Lewis' work parodied? I really enjoyed the last two OAVs especially the one that dug into Will the Reaper's back story. Very bittersweet ending. I'd love to see more Black Butler anime anytime. ^_^
Black Butler: Book of Circus (TV) Masterpiece So fucking dark, but so damn good. I fucking loved it. Just as good as the manga, of course. Nice to see Ciel out of his element, and the policemen massacre scene was suitably eerie. It played out like a Shakespearean tragedy with only Snake escaping the carnage. Actually, I'm surprised the whole arc was adapted without any changes. Good on you, Japan, for wholeheartedly embracing the darkness. ^_^
Black Butler: Book of Murder (OAV) Masterpiece So. Fucking. Good. A tight story with multiple layers and a haunting message: fuck not with Ciel for he will destroy you. I loved all the Sherlock Holmes references. Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett, and Arthur Conan Doyle himself. Toboso, you know the way to my heart. ^_^
Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic (movie) Masterpiece The Titanic with zombies! It's as awesome as it sounds, made even better with a demon and three grim reapers on board. I read the story arc in the manga a while ago so it wasn't anything new, but goddamn it was so satisfying seeing it in theaters. Elizabeth, Sebastian, and Undertaker were amazing in their animated glory, and all the fight scenes were well done. I was reminded why I loved these characters so much, and it was one hell of a movie. I loved it, even with Rave Motion Pictures' issues showing it (I guess I'll see those missing ten minutes once it comes out on DVD).
Black Butler: His Butler, Performer (OAV) Excellent Hilarious, and really fun to watch. Thumbs up! ^_^
Black Cat (TV) Good This anime is fun to watch, and I was amused by the character interaction between Train, Sven and Eve, but I've got nit-picks to comment on. The first 7 episodes can do no wrong in my opinion but then the growing conflict for most of the anime is resolved with little more than a snap of the fingers (it was kind of disappointing). The next arc isn't much better as they try to squeeze in everyone we've been introduced to during the anime, but the problem with that is we just switch between character and character and don't see much of the actual fighting (plus, it's predictable). I just think this could have done so much better...
Black Jack The Movie Very good The lengths some of the athletes go to kill themselves was really fucking impressive (for example, using a bed and wall as blunt objects). The story actually took some brain cells to figure out and as I was in a good mood while watching this, I enjoyed it a lot. Black Jack's flat refusals amused me and the various ways people died were funny, the only thing that bugged me was the Carol Jo character but as she was sort of vital to the plot, I endured.
Bleach the Movie: Fade to Black (movie 3) Very good Bleach is always really nice to watch especially in movie form. The story seemed a little circular but it paid off in the end. All the captains' fighting techniques were neat to watch, I didn't know Kisuke had such a nice power. Did they ever show it in the manga/anime? Nonetheless, a good movie and very worth seeing.
Bleach: Memories in the Rain (OAV) Decent I could have sworn the Memories in the Rain storyline was covered in the anime already so why make it an OAV? In any case, it's all right but nothing I haven't seen before (despite the small 2 minute preview of the Soul Society arc).
Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion (movie 2) Very good I haven't watched any Bleach in a while but I still love most of the characters (ah, Renji, Kenpachi...*happy sigh*). The story was good, if very predictable near the end and I loved all the fighting scenes. You really got to see a different side of Toushiro, which was nice. Not the best movie I've ever seen but I was mostly entertained.
Blood Reign: Curse of the Yoma (OAV) So-so Don't ask me why but this reminded me of Berserk (Hikage=Griffith, Marou=Guts, and Aya=Caska) so try as I might, I just couldn't view this on it's own merits. Not that it was too impressive either way...
Blood Royale (OAV) Decent Hentai is rather amusing...just not when bodily functions are brought into physical interactions. -_-
Blood Shadow (OAV) Very good Rekka is so damn lucky. A pretty good hentai anime really.
Blood: The Last Vampire (movie) Decent The story did need work, but I enjoyed watching how smooth the animation was, plus it's one of the few anime where seiyuu performed in both English and Japanese.
Blue Exorcist (TV) Excellent Much like the manga, the story and characters are excellent, and I really enjoyed the filler episodes (except the pair that dealt with the resurrected wife). Given the creator of the series helped with the anime only ending, it was pretty good. I loved that Yukio got some of the spotlight for once. Also making Satan sympathetic was interesting, I wonder if that'll pop up in the manga eventually...
Blue Exorcist (movie) Masterpiece Fuck, this movie was gorgeous. All the background details amid the beautiful animation was a joy to watch. The story itself was excellent, tightly written with some room to play in the festival setting. I really felt for Usamoro, his ultimate fate made me tear up a little. As a self-contained movie, it's great. I would love to see more movies from this universe.
Blue Exorcist: Kuro Runs Away From Home (OAV) Excellent So adorable! I love Kuro so having a whole episode devoted to him was great. ^_^
Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga (TV) Masterpiece I watched it in one sitting, and it was so fucking good. The "Sailor Moon Crystal" team should take note that this is how you adapt manga without making it boring. I loved just about every second of this series, from the friendship mending to Rin finally accepting what he is. It was beautifully animated with top-notch writing, and I will kill to see the rest of the manga series adapted in the future. Please, Japan? Make a girl happy.
(La) Blue Girl (OAV) Good Rape, rape and more rape, can anyone tell I enjoyed watching this a little too much? What can I say, the tentacles just amuse me (far too much). I do have to say the dub is horrible (I much prefer the subbed version, precious Kappei Yamaguchi plays Nin-Nin and pervert he may be I love his voice). More than Miko (crybaby), I much prefer Fubuki and her odd optimistic attitude and ambitions. Just once though, I would love to see a guy raped by their tentacles. *eyes shift*
(La) Blue Girl Returns (OAV) Decent Eh, it was fair. The animation seemed quite good but the character designs were very bland (I didn't even recognize Miko's sister at first). I liked the first story instead of the second because of all the very beautiful demonic wings that appeared when that one woman re-hatched herself again and again yet the seed pregnancies freaked me out. The second story didn't really impress me and I don't have a lot to say about it.
Blue Seed (TV) Good Sure, it had bad animation, cliche characters and a horrible ending, but I liked most of it, as I was interested in seeing how the story progressed.
Blue Seed Beyond (OAV) Decent The last episode of this is a waste, but the episodes before it were enjoyable if only for the improved animation.
Blue Submarine No.6 (OAV) Decent The story was all over the place, I couldn't really understand the whole point of it (make peace, not war? Don't judge appearances? Who freakin' knows?). Hayami's personality was quite varied, first violent then peaceful and guilt-ridden. I thought the mermaid designs were really pretty (especially Mutio), I kind of wish they would have explored the whole mutation thing closer (Hayami was bitten, shouldn't he have changed? o.0).
Boogiepop and Others (live-action movie) Very good After watching this, I could finally piece together what the series had eluded to the whole time (how Echoes came about and such), somewhat of a prequel to the anime, I suppose.
Boogiepop Phantom (TV) Masterpiece Each episode is a piece of a puzzle, which is very worth putting together.
(The) Boy Who Saw the Wind (movie) Good You know, judging by the animation, I'd figured this movie was a lot older than it was (2000, not the 80s as I originally thought). I liked the movie more than I expected, Amon's powers would have definitely been abused by me (any power would, I'm beginning to realize). I thought the ending was a bit abrupt and could have been better, but it was okay considering.
Brave Story (movie) Good The only thing I question in this movie is how fast Wataru decided he was going to change his destiny (like he couldn't wait to see if his mom would pull through, but I guess that's impulsiveness of youth so I suppose I can forgive it) and his end wish (if he'd had just wished himself and Mitsuru had never come to Vision, everyone would have lived happily ever after). Otherwise, it played out like an enjoyable RPG game and I really liked some of the visuals but it is Gonzo so I figured those would be good anyway. ^_^
BRONZE KoJi NANJo cathexis (OAV) Very good Basically, animated music videos centered around the main couple, and it's actually pretty interesting (I liked the soldier video the best). Worth downloading.
Bronze: Zetsuai Since 1989 (OAV) Very good More of Izumi and Koji's desperate romance, and if you can swallow the melodrama of it all, it's a pretty good watch.
Bubblegum Crisis (OAV) Decent Well, it wasn't that bad but I did wonder how the Knight Sabers got together in the first place, and their reasons for taking on Genom. I enjoyed the music the most though, as it was really good and some songs got stuck in my head far too easily. For an old anime, it had more good elements than bad (can't say much else, as I was entertained but I was irritated during some parts too).
Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 (TV) Decent I was mostly amused by what I watched but there were way too many inconsistanies throughout the series (such as when Tokyo goes to hell, there's some AD Police left but in the next episode, they're mysteriously gone with no reason as to why; how in the world were Mackey and Galatea created from Sylia's brain of all things? Why didn't Leon and Daley stick to the original plan to eliminate the Dragon Line?). I was creeped out by the idea of a sexual relationship with a boomer, and didn't need it shoved in my face so many times by Mason...also, why were the Knight Sabers personalities changed from the original OAV? (Priss was a bitch but she wasn't as hardcore antisocial as she was here). I will admit I did like the Motoslave the most out of everybody, especially by the ending (how sad is that? It wasn't a main character...).
Burn Up W (OAV) Good So it's basically fan service but I really enjoyed the characters, as gun crazy and violent as they were. ^_^
Bus Gamer (TV) Very good If you're going to make a series, why not do the usual 12/13 episode run? 3 episodes seems really strange to me, since I know they had enough source material and some filler here and there wouldn't have been bad at all. In any case, I liked it, it was rather amusing, the fights were entertaining and having two bishies to eye-rape was nice (mmm, Toki and Mishida). I thought the Saiyuki fighting game in the arcade was really great. ^_^
Buso Renkin (TV) So-so I just can't get my head around the fact this was created by the mangaka of RK. It's just too cliché, corny and overdramatic (not to mention, the villains are really flamboyant, which makes taking them as a real threat hard). The characters are complete retards (except Papillon and Captain Bravo), and if common sense had been applied to a lot of the main plot, everything would have resolved a lot quicker with less interruptions. I watched this for one character and one character only, Papillon, I will forever worship the gay-looking butterfly man along with the rest of his fans. Let's hear it for barely concealed packages and butterfly wings! ^_^
Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran (TV) Decent If there had been an underlying storyline to this anime, it may have been much better in the end, but since it didn't, watching this is a near equivalent to wasting time.
Case Closed Movie: The Time Bombed Skyscraper (movie 1) Excellent Woo, Conan anime works damn well in movie format, was actually really interested in seeing the whole plot solved (though I suspected who it was after they made a big deal about the buildings). However, if it had been me contacted by the terrorist, I'd have just let the bombs blow up. *eyes shift*
Case Closed: Captured in Her Eyes (movie 4) Excellent Killing Ran is always a good idea if you ask me, but giving her amnesia? That just grinded on my last nerve. I did like all the violence though, as well as the overall finale at the end. ^_^
Case Closed: Countdown to Heaven (movie 5) Good Hmm, I thought this was the weakest of the batch I watched, mainly because the story was kind of boring (who cares if someone split your view of the Fuji mountain? If you've been painting it for ten fucking years, wouldn't you know it's every detail anyway? -_-). I did like all the pretty explosions though. Ah, fire good. ^_^
Case Closed: The Fist of Blue Sapphire (movie 23) Good I don't get how the bad guy expected one tanker to take down the city. That's just poor planning. I did like the combo of Kaito Kid and Conan working together, though Kid's excuse for bringing Conan to Singapore seemed really thin. Just admit you didn't want to solve a mystery alone. :p I was surprised Ran figured out Kid wasn't Shinichi for once, good on you, girl. So, not bad, super pretty film, but not the best one by a long shot.
Case Closed: The Fourteenth Target (movie 2) Excellent Yes, let's kill people by the numbers in their names, it'll be fun. *evil chuckle* Quite inventive if you ask me, good job, killer-san. ^_^ For once, those damn fucking kids didn't play that big of a role, which made me happy (that, and Ran facing the end of a bullet...again *evil grin*).
Case Closed: The Last Wizard of the Century (movie 3) Masterpiece Hell yes, this was an enjoyable movie, what with Kaito Kid and the engaging plot, I literally couldn't look away until the story had resolved itself. Though I have to say, is Ran a total idiot? Considering how long she's been friends with Shinichi, she can't figure out that Conan is Shinichi, based on personality alone? -_-;
Case Closed: The Phantom of Baker Street (movie 6) Good You know, despite the interesting story, I really wasn't into this that much beyond the Old Time London theme (could sort of predict what was going to happen and I was pissed Hirata Hiroki's character was killed *eyes shift*). Of course, the whole story revolved around kids so you can't blame me for not liking it.
Case Closed: Zero the Enforcer (movie 22) Excellent Yay, a political plot I could mostly follow. It was very predictable but enjoyable nonetheless. Amuro is an interesting character, not sure why he can't figure out who Conan really is though. Maybe given enough time.
Castle in the Sky (movie) Very good Sky pirates! How could you not love them? This was a pretty good movie, one scene in particular struck me as beautiful (when all the stones in the underground cave glow), the ending was a little predictable though.
(The) Cat Returns (movie) Very good It sounds wrong to say it, but I'd totally do both Lune and the Baron...*eyes shift* I know they're cats but hey, hot is hot. Ahem, anyway, it was a cute movie, I predicted a bit of it but there's nothing with that once in a while. Just wish Disney had translated some parts of the story better (it's sad if someone who isn't an expert in Japanese is able to pinpoint mistakes -_-;).
Ceres, Celestial Legend (TV) Very good I always enjoy Watase Yuu's work, this one especially as the story was dark enough to satisfy the part of me that enjoys angst more than it should. I found the ending to be a little substandard but every series has its faults.
Chains of Lust (OAV) Not really good Huh, that was kind of disturbing...I didn't really care for the ending or most of the story. Usually rape amuses me but those guys were just way out there. Was the one in charge some sort of vampire to survive being shot like that? *shrugs*
Chaos;HEAd (TV) Excellent The insane moments vastly amused me and it made me think a lot. The story is really out there and it's interesting trying to sort through the delusions, reality, and clues you gain from each scene. After watching it all, the series got super complicated and made my head hurt...in a good way, I suppose. The ending was a bit pat for me, but I enjoyed the majority of the anime and I'd gladly watch it again.
Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! (TV) Excellent So fucking cute, I just can't take it sometimes. I know others find the animation kind of limited but I really enjoy how the mangaka's art translated into movement. Adachi himself looks super cute in this version too. I was a little annoyed at the time skip between moving in together and getting married, but then I realized I don't remember any BL anime doing that before, so kudos to them. Overall, I loved it very much.
(Le) Chevalier D'Eon (TV) Excellent Gotta admit I didn't expect the dark turn halfway through or all the deaths (except a few that were bound to happen) but I thoroughly enjoying watching the story come to a head. Lots of twists and turns I had to think over later to fit into the overall anime puzzle. I'm quite happy with D'Eon's fate, and my only complaint is the animation wasn't consistant (some expressions looked so funny at times). I'd watch this one again easily.
Chibi Maruko-chan: Watashi no Suki na Uta (movie) Decent Okay, I may have watched a crappy bootleg version of this but I ended up liking it more than I thought (I hesitate to admit it but it brought a tear or two to my eye ^^;). Not bad really...
Children Who Chase Lost Voices (movie) Decent I usually like Shinkai, but this movie didn't really have a strong story or message (unless it was "everything dies, accept it"), feeling unfocused most of the time. The Miyazaki influence was very heavy, almost to a ridiculous point. I never really grew attached to the protagonist Asuna either. It did have beautiful animation and an amazing atmosphere, I'll give it that. So, overall not great, but not that good either.
Chobits (TV) Good I would've rated this higher but the vast amount of filler in this series just fucking pissed me off (they could've animated the whole manga without delving into filler easily but alas, it was not so). Therefore, when it followed it's source material, I loved it (other times, I barely tolerated it); I do have to say that I seem to recall the manga made a bigger deal about sex near the end but I could be mistaken.
Chobits (OAV) Weak What the fuck, man? Do you they think people who watched the series didn't pay any attention at all to the proceedings? I'm insulted, because not only did we get two review episodes in the series itself, we got this sorry excuse for an OAV. It didn't even tell us if Hideki got into college or not. -_-
Chrono Crusade (TV) Excellent The way I look at this, beyond the basic conflict of good and evil, it's a story of how no matter how hard you try, you can never change what's meant to be. Now, having said that, I didn't particularly like the downer of an ending but seeing as the animation, story and so on was good, I suppose I can forgive it.
City of Sin (OAV) Decent I admit I'm a little perverse, as I enjoyed watching this...for hentai anime, it had an oddly ironic sense of humor (queen is at first innocent, has a taste of the wild life, goes halfway crazy and then gets her just desserts). Not bad really.
Close the Last Door (OAV) Excellent 1. Yamada Yugi's manga translated damn well to anime form (it was almost word per word of the original story). It was really great seeing an animated version of Honda and Nakai (to a certain point Saitou as well), and I'm damn curious how they're going to wrap the story up in just two more episodes (which I'll have to import, dammit). However, despite all the color and attempted rape, I prefer the manga more than the anime. Maybe it's because you have to use your imagination to fill in the parts where they shift positions?
Colorful (movie) Not really good The message of this film, 'Don't be sad, be happy i.e. you just need a new perspective on life' is pretty stupid. Telling someone who's depressed in reality to cheer up doesn't work, life is much more complicated than that. I found it a bit strange that heaven/god (?) would force someone to go back to Earth when they clearly had a miserable time there. Having dealt with depression and thoughts of suicide myself, I understood why Makoto originally committed suicide. So when Makoto came back to Earth without his memories, I couldn't relate to him at all because he was an asshole about everything. His poor mother and the chick at school who liked him didn't deserve the rough treatment he gave them. I did enjoy watching Makoto bond with his guy friend, but that was about it. In all, a flawed film I'll likely never watch again (unless it's subtitled because the dub was seriously annoying).
Cool Devices (OAV) So-so Ah, episode 7 was really damn amusing (I liked the pervy detective, such a shame he got blown to bits by Ayana...at least she got punished *evil grin*). The rest didn't impress and I don't get why this series is regarded as highly as it is, just seems like random sexual encounters.
Cowboy Bebop (TV) Masterpiece A great series all around, most or all of the episodes begged to be re-watched and the characters are varied enough to keep your interest, plus with music by Kanno Yoko, you cannot go wrong.
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Masterpiece A really excellent movie all around that sports great villains and a heady story, it has no faults as far as I can tell.
Coyote Ragtime Show (TV) Good This reminded me of Outlaw Star in a lot of aspects. The story was pretty good, I had little qualms with the characters (except the assassin guild, they could have been cut out and I would have been happy). At the same time, some parts felt very blase and rushed so in all, it was an okay series but nothing special.
Cromartie High School (TV) Excellent Beyond the few serious episodes, this cracks me up, literally anything can happen in this series (such as hand puppet thugs, robotic students, a frustrated no name lackey, etc). I loved it! ^_^
Cromartie High: The Movie (live-action movie) Excellent Ah, this was a great movie. It was funny as all hell and I enjoyed seeing a different version of the manga (yet again). I didn't like the new characters they added but that was a minor complaint among a lot of good impressions. Go Cromartie! ^_^
D.N.Angel (TV) Very good I watched this for the bishies (Krad and Dark that is), but the story, once it fled the filler, turned out to be really good (the ending touched me, but not in a bad way :p). I will admit I hated Mio and Satoshi's father interference (what the hell were they there for? -_-;), but I did like how Hiwatari and Niwa were pushed together at times (I'm convinced there's something there, dammit).
DAKAICHI -I'm being harassed by the sexiest man of the year- (TV) Decent I just couldn't get into this anime. With it being like "Skip Beat," but with gayness, you'd think I would like it more. I think my main issue was all the weird shadow beards on each character, which drove me to distraction even to the last episode. Other minor ones were relying on tired old tropes and lack of compelling characters. So, one binge-watch, and I'm done.
Danganronpa The Animation (TV) Good I loved how this show started. Even though I figured out a lot of the murders halfway through, it was still exciting watching it all play out. Of course, then the anime went into why the group of students were there, and the story fell apart in the end. I'd rather be confused and satisfied than annoyed and unsatisfied.
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue (TV) Very good I guessed the twist in the finale long before they revealed it. :p Despite the series' appearance, it's a really good series with well-developed characters and I liked how they went about resolving the main story (the cast's work clothes bugged me a bit but I got used to them after a while). The two bonus episodes kicked ass, they were damn amusing.
Dark (OAV) Decent Well, it was different in that the rapists' actions had consequences. Well, one of them at least. Story wasn't too bad and I was amused by the website the boys kept going to, it was kind of obvious that one girl was on Satoshi's side. "Who do you want to rape next?" :p
A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives (TV) Weak The story sounded really interesting, but the show was a mess. It was hard to follow, and the characters weren't compelling in the least (hello, stereotypes!). Having finished it all, I can say it never got better. I want my time back. That and I was promised rabbits. Give me a damn rabbit already. -_-
Dark Shell: Lust in the Cage (OAV) Not really good You know, I would have liked this a lot more if they hadn't gotten bodily functions into the smut. I really can't stand having that kind of thing in sex, it's just gross and so not what I want to see. Other than that, I found the story amusing (crazy girl kills off anyone who gets off on rape, talk about punishment for having a good time). Not the worst hentai I've seen though.
Dark Tours (OAV) So-so Ah, I love it when women turn the tables on men and they pay for their perversity dearly (or is it dolls who hit men where it hurts?). As far as I could tell from the raw anime, the story had to do with a haunted tour and it spiraling horribly out of control as the ghost corrupted everyone, eventually claiming the tour guide as a host. I just wonder what happened to the nice guy who was into the tour guide and tough chick's scaredy-cat boyfriend? Did they miss out on the massacre?
Darkside Blues (movie) Good Do you like symbolism? If you do, you'll love this movie; it doesn't so much have a story but rather symbolism in nearly every scene. That aside, I liked this movie for some reason, just curious if the manga would make more sense or not.
Dead Leaves (OAV) Good Okay, I'll admit it was weird, frantic and probably splits viewers between hate and love but I liked it (the story was original and you don't see that often). The animation was also very unique (plus Usopp's seiyuu played one of the main characters and that makes me happy anytime ^_^).
DearS (TV) Good In a way, I know I shouldn't like this show, since it's really just a remake of Chobits with aliens instead of machines but some parts of it are adorable (the oversexed teacher for one). Despite the content of the story (is the cast stupid enough not to understand terms like slave and master the first time they're used?), it's an amusing anime with little to prod thought, which is okay once in a while. ^^
Death Note (live-action movie) Masterpiece Regardless of the various changes here and there, the basic story remains intact, and I enjoyed watching it perhaps a little too much (there was lots of 'Lighto, fight-o, fight-o!' coming from me). I loved how they animated Ryuk, and just how some scenes looked (pretty as all hell), if I had to complain about anything, the movie didn't focus on L as much as the manga originally did (so Light looks smarter in comparison simply because he bested L spectacularly).
Death Note (TV) Very good Ah, this is such a refreshing show, beautifully animated, taking almost every fucking line from the manga itself and best of all, it's evil as hell. I know if they follow the source material, I'll be fucking pissed but for now, it's perfect. >:) - Yep, I finished watching all of it. I hate *hate* the ending, and wish the series had just ended when L died. Near and Mello just never measured up to L's greatness.
Death Note (live-action TV) Very good I expected to hate this given all the story changes, but dammit it's (mostly) really good! There are some minor elements that bug me though the cat and mouse game I always find fascinating is ever present. Ryuk is the best part of the show to me, his body language and moves are so fucking amusing. What really kills me (in a good way) is the Mello puppet, I cannot stop laughing whenever it pops up in the show or my head. -Where this series fails is in the last episode. The logic behind some of the changes to the source material didn't work, and Light's death was just stupid. Ryuk didn't even get to kill him. To me, the 10th episode *IS* the finale. Light's fully embraced Kira and is poised to remake the world. That's my perfect Death Note ending. :p
Death Note (live-action movie 2017) Weak There's so little I like in this adaptation. For instance, Ryuk himself was great. Misa (or Mia) having brains was a nice change. ...That's really all I got. Hated everything else. Light was an over-emotional idiot, L was way too dependent on Watari, and the last third of the movie was retarded. Some of the music choices were also very bizarre. In short, I really wish they'd done a spin-off of DN instead of a lackluster adaptation. Show me how someone who's never heard of Kira would handle the notebook.
Death Note Light up the NEW world (live-action movie) Excellent This was so much fun to watch, I don't think I realized how very much I missed the Death Note universe until now. The ante in terms of story was raised to a high with characters all having their own motivations and schemes. Some elements definitely could have executed better (the whole subplot with Light's kid), but overall I loved the relationship between Mishima and Ryuzaki. Their Romeo and Juliet love was never consummated more's the pity. ^^;
Death Note: The Last Name (live-action movie) Masterpiece I would've have liked Light to win, but with the cards stacked against him so, I guess it wasn't meant to be (I'm slightly pissed about that, still). I'm impressed as hell they managed to incorporate that much of the manga, and Rem looked just as great as Ryuk. I'm damn glad L got to finish up his business (which thanks to some worrisome subtitles, I finally understood how he survived Rem's actions), this is a great movie altogether.
Death Trance (live-action movie) Good I liked it a lot, it was so beautiful, I just wish the story could have been just a little better. I still have no idea who Grave really was (the male counterpart of the goddess? It was never really explained). I'd gladly watch again though, it was oddly funny at times.
Demon City Shinjuku (OAV) So-so Beautifully animated, but just like the manga, the story is a hot mess. The deus ex machina in the finale was lazy and silly. The only character I liked was Mephisto and he wasn't even in it much. I'd watch it again, only muted so I could ogle the scenery unimpeded. ^_^
Demon Fighter Kocho (OAV) So-so Two words: fan service.
Descendants of Darkness (TV) Excellent "I may be dead but I'm still kicking and being hit on by those who I happen to interact with during work, especially that creepy doctor Muraki" *sics Muraki on Tsuzuki and watches contently*
Destiny of the Shrine Maiden (TV) Decent I'd read the manga before so I knew what I was in for yet the mecha element really didn't work most of the time. The drama in the love triangle was the best part of the anime along with the music. The ending was a tad wishy-washy for my tastes...
Detective Conan (live-action TV movie) Masterpiece Smooth transition to live action and really entertaining at that. The actor who played Shinichi (Goro something...?) was nice eye candy and the rest of the actors fit their roles quite well (Megure perhaps too well, creeped me out at times). Shame they didn't make more of this, I would've so watched it, it was that good.
Detective Conan - Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small (special) Excellent This is such a nice way to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Seeing how far the character designs have come is wild. I really enjoyed the expanded introduction and updated animation.
Detective Conan: 16 Suspects (OAV) Decent Fucking hell, it's just wine! You don't have to make a big case of it, accept your losses and move on already. Christ in a hand basket, the only good thing about this OAV was Hattori and the ending song (yea Kuraki Mai). Otherwise, don't bother watching it.
Detective Conan: A Challenge from Agasa (OAV) Decent I really hate those kids at times, so freakin' annoying. Who cares about them and that doctor's stupid challenges? I find the fact Agasa actually got kidnapped punishment for catering to those kids. Probably the worst of the OAVs so far.
Detective Conan: Conan and Heiji and the Vanished Boy (OAV) So-so I do not give a crap about children so following them around trying to solve a kid's disappearance is just boring to me, even with Hattori present. -_-; Yawn fest this was. My least favorite of the OAVs so far.
Detective Conan: Conan and Kid and Crystal Mother (OAV) Masterpiece I love the fact it's from Kaitou Kid's POV, not that Conan is bad but it's just awesome learning something about the young thief. I think most of the people on the train were damn stupid though, Kaitou Kid is about and there's a boy named Kaitou on the train? Use your brains like Phillip did, he was actually damn smart for his age. Awesome OAV. ^_^
Detective Conan: Conan Edogawa & Heiji Hattori versus Kid the Phantom Thief (OAV) Good Wouldn't the shopkeepers recognize Conan as Shinichi considering he accompanied Ran on those shopping trips all his life? -_- For being in the title, Kaitou Kid wasn't in this a lot and that shouldn't be (that thief is proactive, he usually doesn't sit by and watch). Hattori saved this from a lower rating. *glomps Osaka detective happily*
Detective Conan: Conan vs Kid vs YAIBA (OAV) Excellent Aw man, this was amusing. I love the fact Kaitou Kid can charm any woman of any age it seems (or so Shinichi thinks as it was his dream). ^^ The ending was a cop-out but I immensely enjoyed the short OAV so I don't really care much about that. Too bad Shinichi can't find that medicine in the real world, that would amusing as all hell.
Detective Conan: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital (movie 7) Masterpiece I absolutely loved this one, mostly for the Oriental slant in the story, the old-fashioned weapons, and impromptu kendo matches. Even better was the addition of Hattori, who was damn cool through most of the movie. My favorite so far really. ^_^
Detective Conan: Full Score of Fear (movie 12) Very good Ah, murder mysteries centered around classical music, of course I'd love it. I really liked Akiba, for a secondary character, she certainly had enough personality to throw around. The only thing I couldn't believe was that a human could imitate the sounds of a touch tone from a set distance, but other than that, another good entry in the Conan movies. ^_^
Detective Conan: Hyōteki wa Kogoro! Shōnen Tanteidan Maruchichōsa (OAV) Excellent Mouri has his days where he's actually pretty smart, I just wish they'd show that more in the anime rather his usual bouts of drinking and acting stupid. Anyway, it was amusing seeing the kids stalk Mouri and seeing him actually accept their help (in the end he needed it whether he would ever admit or not). Not too bad of an OAV considering the level of the kids' involvement (I usually can't stand them).
Detective Conan: Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure (movie 11) Very good The movie has the history of Mary Read and Anne Bonny (not Bonnie) all wrong but that's a mote point that would only bother someone who's studied up on them (*points a finger at herself* Sigh). Doesn't everyone know that a Jolly Roger refers to a pirate flag? Not a hard hint and I'm surprised Conan had trouble figuring it out. Mouri is quite a dedicated father when the situation calls for it. In all, it was a good movie, not as good as I expecting but nothing's perfect.
Detective Conan: Magician of the Silver Sky (movie 8) Excellent Kaito Kid can have *my* measurements anytime (that man just amuses me so much, especially when he dresses like Shinichi ^_^). I wasn't that thrilled with the plane problem near the end (so focused on air terms and so on), but compared to the first half of the movie (kick-ass Conan and Kaito Kid match!), I didn't really care. ^^
Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths (movie 9) Excellent Wow, Mori actually solved a case before Conan. o.0 So there is a brain in that skull then. ^_^ I have only one complaint that had nothing to do with movie itself: the damn subtitles (too many messed up tenses and mistakes in terms; how is the plow the bow? -_-).
Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno (movie 19) Excellent This is an odd little story that if I think too hard upon doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Still, there was lots of Kaito Kid and I always enjoy seeing him and Shinichi work together. I did like the Vincent Van Gogh angle, who isn't utilized in anime very often. So, yeah, good movie despite the faults.
Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter (movie 21) Good Karuda shouldn't be this dramatic. ^^; Like I found a lot of happenings unrealistic and the way the plot revolved around the cards a little annoying. I did like the Hattori and Kazuha focus but there was so much crap around it...it wasn’t the worst Conan movie I've seen, but man was I bored during the majority of it. At the very least, it was very pretty.
Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare (movie 20) Good Hmm, it was entertaining but I admit I didn't really connect to the amnesiac character or care much for the overall story. The focus seemed to drift randomly from each agency to Conan to the kids, etc. It was action-packed and well-animated if nothing else. So, yeah, not my favorite.
Detective Conan: The Private Eyes' Requiem (movie 10) Masterpiece Oh, fuck yes, Hattori *and* Kaito Kid? Awesome combination (story kicked ass too but then Ran and the children weren't a really big part of it). I quite enjoyed seeing Kudou stumped as he was, and the little bit at the end had me grinning thus my second favorite Conan movie. ^_^
(The) Devil Is a Part-Timer! (TV) Good While I like this series well enough, I feel like much of the story potential was squandered to kowtow to a comedic tone that didn't quite work half the time. So much time is spent on the slice of life stuff when I was really curious about the goings-on of Ente Isla and what really happened in its past. Clearly, Maou isn't as evil as everyone assumes he is. If nothing else, I'm curious about the light novels now.
Dogs: Bullets & Carnage (OAV) Excellent I really loved this one, especially the third episode with Badou (mess not with his tobacco ^_^ ). It had beautiful character designs, animation, and the story with all four main characters was great even if some of the story wasn't fully explained all that well. In all, I'd totally watch this again and I want to read the manga now.
Doukyusei -Classmates- (movie) Good I was underwhelmed with this film. I feel like the characters didn't get enough development (Sajou in particular) to make me care about the main relationship. They don't really do more than kiss, and the movie just ends abruptly. It was fucking gorgeous to look at though, I loved the soft flowing edges everything had. So, pretty, but lacking in overall substance. Oh, I did like that Sajou and Hikaru admitted they were actually gay, rather just another case of 'if it's you, it's fine.' Kudos for that.
Dragon Ball Movie 1: Curse of the Blood Rubies Good
Dragon Ball Movie 2: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle Good
Dragon Ball Movie 3: Mystical Adventure Good
Dragon Ball Movie 4: The Path to Power Good
Dragon Ball Z (TV) Good Yes, it's long, yes, it's sometimes boring and drawn out, but underneath it all, it's damn good anime, why else would so many people have watched it?
Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku (special) Excellent Poor poor Bardock, I quite liked this movie, just thought it was rather unfair at the end, but then you don't see Goku's father in the series so it was inevitable.
Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly (movie 11) Decent
Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound (movie 9) Decent
Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming (movie 10) Decent
Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan (movie 8) Decent
Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge (movie 5) Good
Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone (movie 1) So-so
Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (movie 12) Decent
Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug (movie 4) Not really good
Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13! (movie 7) Very good From what I can remember, I really enjoyed watching this, since it had Trunks (all grown up) and Vegeta, and the fights were really good.
Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks (special) Very good Ah, the origin of Trunks, how can you go wrong? One of the few DBZ movies that after watching, you can remember vividly after six months (or more).
Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler (movie 6) So-so
Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might (movie 3) So-so Oh, no, poor Gohan, we have to rescue him! To the sky, my dear Piccolo! *much flying, fighting and climatic showdown later* I'm so glad you're safe, son! Now, let's get home before your mother decides to use my ass as a frying pan!
Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon (movie 13) Decent
Dragon Half (OAV) Good Really amusing OAV I'd happily watch again.
Dragonball: Evolution (live-action movie) Not really good "DB" is a hard work to adapt, and this movie is a prime example why. Even having James Marsters have Piccolo couldn't save it. That said, it's not completely bad, but the good bits are few and far between. Someone with actual respect for the source material needs to try again.
Dream 9 Toriko & One Piece & Dragon Ball Z Chō Collaboration Special!! Good Aka episode 590 of 1p. It was a good idea in concept (with the exception of Toriko), but the execution left something to be desired. Mostly dull fights with 5 something minutes of actual character interaction between the three groups. I badly wanted to see the fight between Zoro and Vegeta play out. It was the most interesting part of the anime! *shakes fist angrily*
Durarara!! (TV) Excellent Man, I love the Dallahan. How many Irish spirits do you see in anime? Also, Shizuo (for his awesome punching the clothes off people ability) and Izaya are damn amusing. The main story told from multiple viewpoints was great, although the build-up of the Dollars/Yellow Scarves conflict was quite anticlimactic in the end. But the leaders are all teenagers so there can't be too much darkness in the plotline. I adore Celty and Shinra's relationship, they're so goddamn cute. <3 In all, pretty great anime.
Durarara!!×2 Ketsu (TV) Excellent I loved this final cour. The ending was everything I could have hoped for and actually made me cry a bit. The way all the subplots combined into one was great. Shinra and Celty's relationship was the standout element for me, even if I did predict how things would end up. The only drawback was the excessive number of Saika sword users. Five seems a bit much. Still, I really enjoyed marathoning this show and I'll likely come back to rewatch it eventually. <3
Durarara!!×2 Shō (TV) Very good I am not wild about Izaya's twin sisters, they annoy me on many levels. When the story focus went beyond them, it was great. I live Mikado's dark turn, the fact Izaya got what was coming to him for his manipulative ways, and the way the story just keeps getting more and more interesting. So good!
Durarara!!×2 Ten (TV) Very good Hmm, while I like seeing Mikado get darker in his bid to purge the bad elements in the Dollars, I feel like the plot didn't really advance much. The revelation that there's a third Saika was a bit cliche, but I still like various bits like seeing Shinra and Izaya's friendship back in high school, that Russian chick developing a crush on Shizuo, and so forth. It'll be interesting to see how everything resolves in the end.
Dusk maiden of Amnesia (TV) Very good For the most part, I quite liked this series. The mystery surrounding Yuuko's death was predictable, but damn compelling, especially when combined with Teiichi and Yuuko's developing relationship. I kind of wish that the story pace had been faster as they were a few episodes that did nothing to advance the plot. Overall, it was a really sweet dyamic mystery series that managed to blend a lot of genres (including psychological material) well. Just remember: boob grabbing is the cure-all to all of life's problems. :p
E.Y.E.S. of Mars (movie) So-so I liked the first half...then it all fell to hell. I just didn't understand how they could have let their views on evolution ruin a perfectly good story. Don't get me started on the ending. -_-
Earthian (OAV) Good I love the rock star episode, the rest is a bit overdramatic but being one of the few titles with yaoi undertones, I'm not complaining.
Eat-Man '98 (TV) Good A little known series that kept my interest piqued, though a little more information about the main character would have helpful.
ef: a tale of memories (TV) Good There's things I liked about the series, and some things I really hated. The over-dramatized relationship problems were my biggest pet peeve. I only really cared about one of the three couples (Chihiro and Renji). Miyako and Kei were psycho fucking bitches. I feel sorry for anyone who ends up with them. -_- The ending for Renji & Chihiro felt a little too pat/convenient, but it worked. The art direction was really interesting yet sometimes to the anime's detriment. People move, stop with the abstract shit! Yeah...bit torn on this one. Okay, I guess?
Eien no Aseria (OAV) So-so Kaori got on my last nerve, all she could do was cry, get held hostage, then kidnapped by another country while brother did all the hard work. I would have liked to have had more information on the background of the magical world but being unfinished, I guess that's not going to happen. So in all, I wouldn't watch it again but it was okay for what it was.
Eight Clouds Rising (OAV) Very good Finally, an OAV that's able to stand on its own, this features an interesting story and I rather wish more of the anime had been made.
Eiken (OAV) Awful Panties, unreal huge boobs, butts...so much fan service, it's way too much for an average mind to handle, even an exceptionally smutty one would have trouble swallowing all the visual gags and indecent situations.
El Hazard: The Alternative World (TV) Weak Uh, what the hell kind of ending was that? Everyone's transported home and no one cares what happens to Dall and such? Their world was falling apart! -_- Fatora chasing after female booty makes up for it though.
El-Hazard 2: The Magnificent World (OAV) Good Not quite as good as the original but if it stands on it's own, it's not that bad.
El-Hazard: The Magnificent World (OAV) Masterpiece A fantastic fantasy comedy that I've not gotten tired of watching yet, if there's anything to complain about, it's the high price tag really.
Elfen Lied (TV) Good Perhaps it's just me but the pacing seemed a bit off for most of the story (I didn't give a fuck about Lucy and the rest until the past bits were revealed, if that had been shown first in the series, I would have liked it a lot better). I feel like it tried to push the dark negative angle too much (runaway girl? No, that's not enough! Let's throw a pedophile stepfather in the mix, and a mother who doesn't give a shit!). It kind of rubbed me the wrong way, I guess...anyway, beyond cheering for all the violence, I ended favoring Bantou for some reason because he was crazy (in a good way, and a lot less annoying than some other characters who needed a good slap to set them straight).
Elfen Lied (OAV) Good Uhm, they couldn't have included this as a TV episode? Some series have 14 episodes...yeah, it was all right, and it did reveal the motivation behind Lucy's revenge (as it was).
Embracing Love: A Cicada in Winter (OAV) Excellent I wanted to hate this but the story and animation were so good (even though I still have a major beef with the mangaka's art style, her characters look so ugly at times). Kusaka looked very good after his haircut (Akizuki looked hot all the time despite only having one leg near the end *eyes shift*). I'd already knew the story's finale ahead of time so I didn't mind the downer of an climax (the way it was going, I think that was the only way the pair could be together). Aizawa was an major asshole, just leave things well enough alone, prick. >_>
Embracing Love: Cherished Spring (OAV) Very good Goddammit, why is everyone's hair so fucking pretty?! >_> It's not fair when I'm trying to hate something and I keep getting distracted by how hair falls on someone's shoulders! Err, about the actual anime itself, I thought it would be extremely graphic like the manga but nope, every naughty bit shortened or covered by a sheet (how disappointing). Still, I enjoyed watching this since Iwaki's damn hot, especially his hair...^^;;
Enzai (OAV) Not really good Having played the computer game, it's interesting seeing an animated version (all the same voices, the same...sounds *eyes shift*), and there are a few more details revealed story wise but the animation sucks and all the naughty bits are censored. Boo, says I!
ERASED (TV) Excellent I quite enjoyed this series, even if I wasn't entirely happy with how the story resolved. For one thing, the killer was fucking obvious (I literally pointed at the first person they showed once Satoru had first gone back in time and said, "he's the killer, isn't he?"). Second, the whole coma thing was just lame. Whatever momentum the series had built up came to a screeching halt once that plot element was introduced. That said, I loved the rest! The time travel method was very different and the emotional stakes high throughout the anime. All the characters were fully developed and I connected and felt for each one. Damn good writing there. Even with my complaints, it's an amazing anime worth seeing at least once. ^_^
Escaflowne: The Movie Very good A retelling of the TV series, and it's one of my favorite movies as I think it improved upon the it's previous incarnation a bit, has great animation as well.
Eureka Seven (TV) Good First off, some of the characters' names bother me intensely (Moondoggie? Are you serious?), secondly some episodes struck me as useless in reference to the main story (the hazing one for instance), thirdly Last Exile did this story far better than this series (you know, the whole one ship taking on the existing government). Lastly, this would have benefited from a shorter run as it took far too long to get to the core of the story and even then it wasn't that impressive (the ending was sort of silly as well, Renton and Eureka's names on the moon? Come on).
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (movie) Good Man, Hideki Anno must really want Eva to have a revival. I don't really see the point of updating the series at all (or making Shinji out to be a better character; face it, he's just way pathetic no matter what picture you try to paint of him). Still, it wasn't bad watching it, the updated animation was nice (...but that was about it).
Excel Saga (TV) Excellent For someone's who has seen a ton of anime in their lifetime, this is a very fun series to watch, as catching the in-jokes make the show all the more amusing. All hail Ilpalazzo-sama! ;)
Fake (OAV) Very good One of well known shounen ai anime, and despite the fact Ryo played the part of a damsel in distress, it's worth watching if only to watch Dee's efforts at getting his partner in the sack. ^_^
Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle (special) Very good Get yourself beat up, lose confidence, beat on your best friend until you regain said confidence and then defeat a German baron. Sounds like fun, right? A guilty pleasure if ever there was one. ^^
Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf (special) Good Blanked out.
Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture Good Probably the worst of the bunch, but still, I enjoyed watching it if only to see that one guy keep losing it.
Fight!! Spirit of the Sword (OAV) Decent Just when this was getting interesting, it ended, though overall I wasn't really impressed with it, like most OAVs, it was left open-ended, thus not much story was told (and I quite doubt it'll ever be finished).
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie) Excellent Fucking hell, the animation was sooo pretty, and the fights were well thought out if a little frenzied but still, damn! I was mostly in awe of it all, and since I'm not very familar with FF7 the video game, I couldn't understand all of the story but that didn't stop me from enjoying it (and enjoy it immensely I did).
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (US CG movie) Very good I quite liked this movie, and I had no qualms about the story (why did so many people dislike it?), the animation alone is worth watching.
Final Fantasy: Unlimited (TV) So-so You'd think since the Final Fantasy game makers made this, it'd be oh so excellent but it's repetitive factor drags down whatever story they're hinting at, and the fact the two main character are kids doesn't help anything.
Fish in the Trap (OAV) Not really good "Sob, I got gang-raped but rebounded quite well, well enough that I even developed a crush on the person who organized said gang-rape"
Flame of Recca (TV) Excellent I love this show. I've watched it probably five or six times, and it never fails to suck me in. Yeah, the manga's much better, and the animation can be inconsistent. However, the story, characters, and fights are second to none (enjoy the hell out of the madogu weapons and I'd kill for Recca's fire power...ha ha). I wish another season had been made to wrap the story up. I'd also accept a reboot with higher quality animation that followed the manga more closely as well.
FLCL (OAV) Excellent I love Haruko, so it makes sense I'd enjoy the rest of the series, it's completely random and frantic and though I can't tell what the hell's going on at times, I'm amused by it all.
Foxy Nudes (OAV) Weak Oookay. I could have really done without all the urination in other peoples' mouths (that's just sick and wrong all at the same time). I did like the fact the reporter kept making the hostage situation worse (the sex toys were a nice touch), but that was about it. Some scenes just confused the hell out of me (what was with the reporter singing nude all the sudden?).
From Up On Poppy Hill (movie) Very good Great atmosphere and setting. I found amusement in that I was watching Umi's love story. Some of the plot got derailed with saving the clubhouse bit, which was okay, but I was more interested in Shun and Umi's unfolding relationship. The potential incest angle was intriguing amd resolved neatly in the the end. Loved the music especially the "Sukiyaki" song.
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) Masterpiece When you're tired of watching anime that has to do with saving the world and so on, and want to watch something that deals entirely with life, then this is definitely what to watch. Great plot, characters, the works, what are you waiting for? :p
Fujimi Orchestra (OAV) Excellent Say what you want, but I really like this anime (the classical music pieces help). Tounoin is really amusing to me, as well as Yuuki, though more story was revealed in the manga. For what it is, it's an excellent adaption from the novels. ^_^
Full Metal Panic! (TV) Excellent Balancing comedy, action, and drama, this series is damn good, I loved the good and bad guys (ah, Gauron, take me!) and though the ending left on an open note, the fact a second series is on it's way is all the more reason to love FMP.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (TV) Excellent Looking over most of the action in the original, this is all about Sousuke trying to fit into Japanese society, which is of course horribly amusing, and I enjoyed watching it a hell of a lot. ^_^
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV) Masterpiece My second favorite anime series ever, as I love the story, action, characters, pretty much everything. It became fairly complicated near the end of the anime, which only served to deepen my fondness for it.
Fullmetal Alchemist (live-action movie) Decent Look, I understand you can't adapt 20+ volumes of manga into two hours, but goddamn the last hour or this movie was painful. Too much was cut out, lots of silly melodrama added, and unneeded wigs when hair dye would have sufficed. The CG was great, Al in particular looked very natural, and some of the casting choices were perfect (Hughes and Mustang <3). Ed's choice at the finale pissed me off. It's not like he was the one to do the human sacrifice. Fucking help your brother, not get caught up over moral ethics. Sigh, I expected so much better judging from all the positive press surrounding this film.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa Masterpiece A happy ending for once (no words can express my joy for that). I was amused at the doubles most of the characters seemed to have in the 'other' world (Hughes Nazi), along with the story (silly women think salvation is found in other worlds). Mostly though, I'm happy Ed and Al ended up together, they really deserved such a thing.
Fushigi Yugi (TV) Good Meet Miaka, the biggest brat and glutton in the world of anime. If you thought Relena was bad, take a gander at Miaka, she's a hundred times worse. If you can ignore *her* and focus on the bishounen and interesting story, it's not a bad anime overall.
Fushigi Yugi (OAV) Very good A more mature to the show, and I quite liked the change, in particular the Chichiri and Tasuki's episodes, didn't even mind Miaka for once. *gasp*
Fushigi Yugi (OAV 2) Very good More of the same, which is truly enjoyable. I enjoy seeing character development that's not forced and seems quite natural.
Fushigi Yugi Eikoden (OAV) So-so While Miaka remains unconscious through most of this, there's another irritating girl to take her place, so some of my excitement on watching more 'FY' dissipated upon learning that fact, the animation of Suzaku and the rest of the gods could have been better as well.
Galaxy Express 999 (movie) Decent To be honest, I watched this a while back on a bad tape and I can't really remember if I liked it or not.
Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo (TV) Excellent Joji Nakata's voice suits the Count so well, it's creepy at times (yet I love it). Anyway, despite a few changes here and there in the story, I have little to nitpick on about this series, the animation, character designs, music, none of it was lackluster at all. I enjoyed watching it immensely and while it won't be one of my all-time favorites, I'd pop it in my DVD player anytime.
Gantz (TV) Excellent I'm glad to see this series animated, and it follows the manga for the most part but there's a few bits and pieces added in that I really didn't like. The music is a bit odd at times too...but I like it anyway except for the last 4 episodes (they're absolute crap) and the director should have stopped before running ahead with what he thinks Gantz should end on. -_-
Gantz (live-action movie) Very good I didn't expect it to be perfect and it definitely wasn't, but I've got to admit it was a pretty adaptation nonetheless. I didn't really like the fact no one could shoot a fucking gun and the character development was practically nonexistent (hell, Kei and Kato seemed more like a couple than anyone else). But the action was damn good as well as the effects. I'm really looking forward to the next movie, go vampires! ^_^
Gargoyle of Yoshinaga House (TV) Good When I read the summary for this, it didn't sound that interesting but the gargoyle turned out to be damn amusing (since he so easily stalks people), as well as Hyakushiki Kaito (hot thieving man, I'd like to live with him too). He wears his top hat to bed even (I find that horribly funny for some reason, then again I am easily amused at times). It's not epic or anything, but it was fun finishing this show up (strange events happen a lot), and I did like it overall.
Gasaraki (TV) Very good Not your typical mecha anime, the plot is mainly political, which is definitely a twist on the genre. If you can get your head around everything, this is worth watching.
Gate Keepers (TV) Good A lot of the story was predictable but that's to be expected for a superhero story (kind of reminded me of Sailor Moon in some ways o.0). The gate abilities themselves were neat (I want the fire or shadow one, abuse here I come!). Kageyama was a character I liked so I was a tad sad to see him disappear in the end (bad guy or not); the Invader themselves made me laugh every time they appeared (where do they get those sunglasses!?), though I've got lots of questions about their origins. So a good series in the end but it takes a while to get to the good stuff.
Gate Keepers 21 (OAV) Very good This has a darker tone than the TV series, which was kind of refreshing from the usual optimistic feel. I'm kind of confused on a lot of the story points (like when and how did Shun and Ruriko die? Why doesn't their daughter look anything like them? How did the gates become so negative? Why did the Invaders come back? Who was Ghost Girl? Isn't Ruriko's maiden name Isusawa, not Isuzu?). Mostly I just wonder why Kageyama turned to the good side, he was so good evil, why bother saving the world from Invaders if he'd previously worked with them? Stay consistent already.
Gekijō-ban Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu. Spain-Hen (movie) Very good Wow, what a difference in quality. The shadow beards were fixed, the animation was improved considerably (so fucking pretty), and I actually started liking the main couple. It helped that the whole story revolved around dance in a foreign country. Yep, I would totally watch this again. <3
Generator Gawl (TV) Good Most people look this over, but this is pretty good, there's more twists then you can keep track of, and the story did keep my interest overall.
Geobreeders (OAV) Bad I had no fucking idea what was going on most of the time. I've a feeling being familiar with the manga would help mightily in understanding their anime universe. Why are phantom cats bad? If they are, why do they have one on their team? So confused.
Gestalt (OAV) So-so Okay, I could have really done without all those "Lord, help me grant a miracle" moments but considering the main character was a priest, I suppose it was unavoidable. It was pretty predictable and confusing at times but it's not among the worst anime I've seen. I most certainly wouldn't watch this dubbed again, 'twas horribly funny when it wasn't supposed to be.
Getbackers (TV) Excellent Ginji Plushie! Akabane! Bishies! Fights galore! With a full array of characters, interesting storylines and smooth animation, this was a damn good series. ^_^
Ghost Hound (TV) Very good Such a slow start! Then episode 4 came along and the show started to get really interesting as it wasn't so much a horror story as a psychological thriller with some supernatural elements. There are some good creepy moments that'll stick in my memory nonetheless. I feel like some of the ideas and subplots go nowhere, and a few more episodes would have resolved everything. The ending was a little too pat for my taste, but satisfactory. Some great dramatic narrative and creativity, well worth watching.
Ghost in the Shell (movie) Excellent A head trip into a world where robots and humans may not be everything they seem, a solid storyline and atomsphere make this a damn good movie, just make sure all brain cells are in proper order.
Ghost in the Shell (live-action movie) Good It was really damn pretty. They went all out with the effects and it shows. I feel like the writers really missed the point of the original anime movie though. The existential crisis is not 'who was I before this?,' it's 'as a purely digital being, can I consider myself human?' The story was pretty much "Robocop" with a female lead. I didn't hate it by any means, enjoying the majority of the movie, but it's also not something I'd revisit anytime soon.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (movie) Very good I didn't really mind the random quotes that seemed to spill out everywhere, and the story though a bit slow, was quite interesting. The only part I really had a beef with was when they confronted Kim in his house, the multiple confrontations just struck me as kind of cheap even if they did have a purpose. What I really liked about this film was the fucking beautiful CG, some scenes struck me as so pretty I was near tears. ^^;;
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV) Excellent While I wasn't so sold on this series in the beginning, having seen it all, I can say it's amazing, even the Laughing Man arc (which I had problems with initially), I will definitely be seeing the second season.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie) Excellent There was definitely an engrossing story (abused kids and old people just amuse the hell out of me), and great animation (as usual). I've just got one complaint, why is it when you have a near master criminal (The Puppeter in this case) on the loose, they don't ever get caught in the end? This anime seems to like letting the criminals speak their mind, and then wander off into cyberspace, leaving the main characters to ponder upon them.
Gilgamesh (TV) Decent I wanted to like this (I really did) but it has an frustratingly slow story (most parts of which I guessed with ease) and horrible character designs (everyone looks old despite their young ages yet the hair looked quite good even if I felt like giving half the cast haircuts ^^;). I felt sorry for Kiyoko throughout the whole series, she always got the short end of the stick compared to her brother (still, she did have the last laugh in the final episode *evil smirk*). So, in all, a fair series but it's inherently flawed in most places.
Girl from Phantasia (OAV) Decent Damn short anime that never really got the chance to properly develop the story or characters. Still, I did find Roll kind of amusing.
(The) Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún (OAV) Very good For a 10-minute short, it's pretty good. There's no dialogue, so I imagine it's confusing if you haven't read the manga. It's really just a snippet that will whet any fantasy lover's appetite.
(The) Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún (OAV 2) Very good So goddamn pretty. Sure, parts of the manga were cherry-picked and portrayed out of order but I can forgive that in face of the adorableness that is Shiva and Sensei's relationship. I'd love to see a full adaptation of the manga someday, unlikely as it seems.
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie) Masterpiece This movie tapped into my emotions and ran ragged with them, one minute I was laughing, the next there were tears in my eyes. I never actually lost control altogether but it's rare when an anime hits home that fast. The story was excellent (if could have leaped through time as Mokoto did, I would've abused it for evil...of course ^_^). Characters were very well developed and overall, I got a nice fuzzy feeling after I was done watching this (would've loved to have seen Mokoto and Chiaki reunite at the end though).
Girls' Last Tour (TV) Good I was on the fence about rating this series Good or Decent but decided to go with Good because I liked the development of them becoming a couple. All that said, while I liked the setting and the overall vibe, I never did enjoy the characters, especially the one that was obsessed with food. The info dump in the final episode was clumsily done, and the lack of resolution regarding the storyline was kind of frustrating. So, it's not a bad series, but it's not one I'd rewatch again anytime soon.
Gokudo (TV) Good As much as an antihero Gokudo is, it's far too fun to see him attempt to save the world when the guy would much rather be pigging out on food and chasing girls. My favorite storyline is the body-switching one, as Gokudo taking advantage of Rubette's body is just too amusing. Good stuff overall.
Grave of the Fireflies (movie) Excellent This has got to be the most depressing anime I've ever seen, regardless of that, it's very good, and has a good message all around, just never watch if you're deep in a funk (really).
Gravitation (TV) Masterpiece A great series, regardless of the bonus shounen ai content. Eiri and Shuichi's romance is very amusing to watch.
Gravitation: Lyrics of Love (OAV) Good This was before the TV series, based on the manga itself so it's a bit different but still good. Especially for the songs. ^^
Grimms Notes the Animation (TV) Decent The first few episodes were really confusing, then the characters actually explained things and the series got better as a result. I really like the overall concept, visiting stories and setting them right, but I wish instead of following the formula of defeating the bad guy and resetting things, the story characters were allowed to follow their own path. The one episode about Snow White did and it was great. So, yeah, not nessacarily a bad series, but it could be much better.
(The) Grudge (live-action movie) Decent I watched this for Sara Michelle Geller and little else. A remake in English just isn't that interesting especially when the story remains the same.
(The) Grudge 2 (live-action movie) Decent
(The) Grudge 3 (live-action movie) So-so
GTO Drama Special (live-action special) Excellent Just as good as the TV series, even more so because it's beyond the point where the anime stopped (not sure about the manga, I'd have to re-read it from the start, it's been so long). I liked seeing Azusa and Onizuka's relationship advance and the new problem students Onizuka had to satisfy offered a nice variety. Of course, I'll always like his original class the best though, so amusing they be.
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (TV) Excellent In the real world, Onizuka would be fired, sued for all he was worth and labeled a deviant of society, however in anime, he's allowed to do whatever the hell he pleases, and I am forever amused as a result, I would have killed for a teacher like him when I was in school.
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (live-action TV) Excellent I enjoyed watching this, all the actors are damn good at their roles and it's so enjoyable to see them work, following the source material as well as they can. I would join Onizuka's cult if I was in his class. I can understand why this had such a following in Japan, I'm sad the series only got 12 episodes but I'd rather have it short and sweet than to exhaust itself to keep it going and going. I can't wait to watch the special.
GTO: The Movie (live-action movie) Excellent Ah, I love Onizuka, he is so evil (shaking down kids for money, encouraging suicide, betting on student fights) yet he's able to get results others don't simply for his unconventional methods. The car chase near the end reminded me of GTA, I wonder how many stars you'd get for the crime of kidnapping? Anyway, I laughed my ass off a lot and I greatly enjoyed the movie, now to watch the TV series! ^_^
Gungrave (TV) Masterpiece It has flaws but I was able to happily ignore them, and focus on the main story, that of Harry and Brandon, which is done so spendidly it's uncanny at times. By the last episode, I was convinced they had were intimately involved. My reason? "Brandon..." "Harry..." *repeat* :p
Gunparade March (TV) Very good I'm not sure which came first, the manga or the anime, and to tell you the truth I'm not sure I really care, I quite happily watched this series and would again.
Gunslinger Girl (TV) So-so You know, tried as I might to like this, I just couldn't get into it because of a few (whiny, pathetic) characters, and the short length (character development there is not).
Gunsmith Cats (OAV) Good Hot girls with guns, who have a random habit of losing clothes during fights, that's pretty much it.
(The) Guyver (live-action movie) So-so One word: corny. It was very badly acted and the effects were only half effective as they could have been. I mostly made fun of it, I have no desire to see the sequel, which I suspect is twice as bad as this one.
.hack//Intermezzo (OAV) Awful I hated this episode, it was useless and didn't add anything to the story at all. I think I fast-forwarded through the parts that were repeated from the TV series. Very lame.
.hack//SIGN (TV) Decent If half of the series had been set in the real world while still connected to The World, I would've loved this but sadly, the all-RPG setting left something to be desired (little peeks at the real faces behind the game characters wasn't enough in my opinion). I found Tsukasa an utterly useless character (oh, I'm stuck in the game, woe is me!), though Crim and Bear were really nice to have around. The story was soooo slow, and towards the end, rather quick to resolve (despite how hard everyone kept saying it would be). An anime legend, my ass. -_-
Haibane Renmei (TV) Good I didn't mind watching it, I just wish it hadn't been so...spiritual, like Reki I do but not enough to watch her try and find salvation (Day of Flight).
Hametsu No Mars (OAV) Weak I'm sure Takeru was raped into wearing that suit by his father (surely, that was the source of the yells he gave out *eyes shift*). Though seriously, if the girls are "experts" in certain fields, why don't they use those skills instead of standing around getting choked and beaten? -_- I have to admit the classical music pieces were nice though...
Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid (movie) Good Imagine my surprise when I found out one of my old kiddies movies was actually anime. ^_^ Though looking back on the movie, it was actually somewhat sad...and it had nudity, that should have tipped me off that it was anime more than anything.
Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto (TV) Decent This reminded of "Cromartie High School" except everyone's more or less competent in this series. I kind of felt Sakamoto was too perfect, and he's a bit of a one-note character. Out of the whole series, I laughed five times so the comedy misses most of the time. I think I would have preferred the concept in a shorter format, as some of the episodes feel padded out, and a few gags go on way too long. So an okay anime, but nothing special.
Heat Guy J (TV) Masterpiece I picked this out of whim, and I'm really glad I did. Beyond the amusement of picking up all the potential yaoi undertones between J and Daisuke, there's some great stories and characters (I love the ending, everything resolves really well). ^_^
Heaven's Lost Property (TV) Not really good I'm kind of mixed when it comes to this anime. On one hand, the story has been overdone, and has some really bad episodes (exploding panties, why?), but it also has sweet moments, and the characters are well defined. At least I watched it free so the only thing I wasted was my time. ^^;
Hellsing (TV) Very good Style over substance, but very good substance at that as the atomsphere is dark, and the characters are all well defined. Good stuff.
Here Is Greenwood (OAV) Excellent I rented the first VHS tape of this long ago, and when I heard a DVD containing all the episodes was coming out, I immediately ordered it, and I'm glad I did it, this series is just fun to watch, the last two episodes are a little too serious but that's only a minor nit-pick. ^^
(The) Heroic Legend of Arslan (OAV) Good I liked this one, though the names were very weird at times. I wish it hadn't ended so abruptly.
Highlander: The Search for Vengeance (movie) Decent If you're looking for beautiful detailed action, look no further, this movie has it in spades, a 2,000 year old ongoing fight with mostly the same results each time. I did enjoy watching it but you can't expect a solid story when fighting is the main point of the movie (along with a rather lame ending, come on, can't we have one bad ending for Earth?). I really liked Pirate Colin (hell, I liked the look of Colin most of the time, hot bishie man he was).
(The) Highschool Life of a Fudanshi (TV) Excellent Such amusing characters, I wish the episodes were longer than five minutes. It made me laugh a lot and I'll definitely look forward to reading the manga. ^_^
His and Her Circumstances (TV) Excellent Arima and Yukino's romance pulled me in line, hook and sinker, I adored the sometimes frantic pace of the series, but mostly how well it portrayed a growing relationship within school borders and beyond. The few downsides were summarizing the anime way too much, and shifting the focus from Arima and Yukino to her family and friends in the end.
Hōkago no Shokuinshitsu (OAV) So-so The manga this anime was based was much, much better. Switch one of the men with a girl and you've got a typical romance story. Yawn.
Holy Knight (OAV) So-so Ugh, had no choice but to watched this dubbed (damn Crunchyroll). This anime left me with more questions than answers concerning the story. The forced humor in the dark plot didn't really fit. About the only amusing thing was Sanji's Older Evil clone, the rest was pointless, incomplete, and a waste of an hour.
Hoshizora Kiseki (ONA) Good Hmm, well, the story was a bit confusing (what's flowlite? Did Kozue and Ginga meet in a former life somewhere?) but I liked it well enough, mostly due to the pretty animation. Not bad really.
Hot for Teacher (OAV) Not really good I am so sick of seeing women pee in hentai, anyone who's turned on by that is just fucking sick. Story wise, it was all right, no one died at the end which was rather surprising. I would have rather Katsu (Yoshioka) been raped in his girlfriend's stead, that would've been true torture in my eyes. *eyes shift* Oh yeah, the ending was kind of cheesy.
Hot Space Cowboys (OAV) So-so ...Definitely smut. Obsese commander raping his underlings, yeah, like I want to see that in graphic detail. >_>
How to keep a mummy (TV) Very good So. Adorable! My poor heart. God, it's so cute and wholesome. I need plushies so bad! >_<
Howl's Moving Castle (movie) Decent Hate me if you want, but having read the novel first and then seeing the movie, I really didn't like all the changes there were (the original story was better, not to mention sort of anti-romantic). The main villian was changed, Sophie's role in the finale was lessened, a war was added...I know it's Miyazaki but would it have killed him to keep the story as it was? Bareable but just barely (give me something pulled from Miyazaki's imagination any day).
Human Crossing (TV) So-so I've got no problems with mundane stories but most of them were preachy and uplifting and I really wanted to see a bad ending for some of the characters (not everything in life turns out fine after all). Really the only episode I liked was the last one (yea murderers), otherwise I was putting my own story over the one shown (that old man? A pedophile ^_^). Not bad but definitely not my cup of tea.
Hybrid Child (OAV) Masterpiece God, I was not prepared for this anime. I mean, I liked the manga well enough, but goddammit I teared up at the ending of the first episode, then cried my eyes out throughout the entirety of the last one. The emotional punch was substantial and completely unexpected. Despite that, damned if I didn't end up loving the anime to bits. The darker tone with regards to love was well-handled, and this is definitely my favorite of Shungiku Nakamura's works. Now excuse me while I go watch something happy...
Hyper Speed GranDoll (OAV) Not really good It's always a bit distracting when the protagonist has the same name as me. Her seiyuu got super shrill at times, which actually hurt my ears during a couple scenes. Story wasn't too interesting though the parents were rather amusing.
I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying (TV) So-so It was okay, but not as funny as it could be. I really liked the husband's brother who was obsessed with yaoi and writing his sibling as an uke in said books.
I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying: 2nd Thread (TV 2) So-so Well, it made me laugh once. That's good, I suppose. Not much else was interesting, and I just finished it for completion's sake. Glad it was so short.
I Shall Never Return (OAV) Good The story might have been a little simple, but I enjoyed watching this (even if it was predictable, the two guys should have done it sooner, they should have ravished each other in each scene in my opinion *eyes shift*). I don't understand who would want Moeko as a girlfriend (or sex friend), she was such a fucking bitch. I really liked the character designs, probably the best part of the anime .
I'll/CKBC (OAV) Good It had bishies, thus Hikaru was happy, never mind the fact it had slight shounen ai overtones. *whistles innocently as she could see these overtones everywhere if Hikaru put her mind to it*
Iblard Jikan (OAV) Good This anime is heartrendingly beautiful (a phrase I've never used before). Nonetheless, I had to watch it in 5 minute spurts, else go insane from the meaningless of it all. I really wish they'd stuck some story with the intricate images, I would have liked it a whole lot better. All style, no substance.
ICE (OAV) Bad Talk about a screwball story, you have to wonder how a woman-driven society could be so fucked up. Aren't women made of softer emotions and all that crap, what's is up with the sexually-mindedness of most of the women in this? You meet one and it's all, "let's sleep together" before friendship. I didn't give a fuck about anything in this, I fast-forwarded through all of it to save myself pain. One of the worst OAVs I've ever seen.
Ikoku Irokoi Romantan (OAV) Excellent 1-2. The character designs were so pretty, I would've jumped everyone if given the chance in real life. ^^; I actually liked this more than the original manga. I want more already, dammit!
Indian Summer (OAV) Decent I don't really get the parts with the Shinto priestesses and that giant octopus. o.0 I like Marase, he's perverted but he's good-natured about it at times. Every girl seems to fall quite hard for him in a second and that part is annoying but the rest is okay. Not sure if I'd watch it again but it wasn't a bad anime at all.
Initial D (TV) Very good I initially thought I wouldn't like this series, but after the first few episodes, I found myself horribly addicted, the bad animation and questionable character designs not even phasing me; plus the music is wonderful. I would read the manga this is based on but TOKYOPOP is a bastard (don't change names!).
Initial D (live-action movie) Excellent I really liked this movie (most of the actors looked exactly like the characters they were cast as which was damn convenient in picking out who was who), the only things that really irritated me was the lack of Europop music (it's not Initial D without that music ;_;) and the fact that they made Bunta an abusive father (that's so not in his original character). They managed to condense a lot of the story but I still feel like we missed out on some of the more neater races, also was I the only one picking up on some sexual tension between Ryousuke and Takumi? ^^;;
Initial D: Battle Stage (OAV) Good I didn't think there was 17 battles in seasons 1-3. o.0 Basically, all it is a summary of all the battles every character has been in without all the emotion and backstory so it reminded me very much of a video game. However, it is the perfect primer for those who haven't watched all of the 4th Stage so in all, it was good.
Initial D: Extra Stage (OAV) Decent Hmm, I wasn't particularly interested in seeing...what's her face race more but the music was good, and we got to see Takumi in a swimsuit *eyes shift* Stop looking at me like that, he's technically a bishie...
Initial D: Second Stage (TV) Very good I invested so much emotional attachment to this series that when the 86's engine died, I cried; then of course, when it was rebuilt, I was quite happy. If there are any hang-ups, it's over the fact we don't see anyone but Takumi race.
Initial D: Third Stage (movie) Very good An extended episode that pretty much ties things up, and answers a few questions about the future of the characters, I may have been alone in this but I was happy to see Natsumi go bye-bye in the next incarnation of the series (that being the Fourth Stage series).
Innocent Venus (TV) Excellent My, people loved to change sides in this anime (it was amusing trying to guess who would next ^_^). I enjoyed the little twists and turns in the story, though I feel a little sorry for Jin because of them. It was a little confusing guessing Sana's purpose, and given the short numbers of episodes, a tad frustrating at times. Regardless, I really liked the anime in all, especially because of the Toraji pirate character (long live pirates, arr!).
Interlude (OAV) Good Good mystery, I don't think I completely understood the whole story but I managed to get the gist of it. I liked the characters though Mutsuki got on my nerves just a bit (even with Chopper's seiyuu voicing her). I loved the animation and character designs, some scenes were quite pretty. So, in all, it was worth watching. ^_^
InuYasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass Excellent Fuck yes, Kagome finally says the phrase everyone's been waiting for! Why'd you wait so long, you stupid girl? -_- But yes, my favorite out of movies I've seen so far, mostly because the story was above average and it was more than just-fighting-a-boss-character-to-save-the-world.
InuYasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler Very good Inuyasha's father is a hot man for a demon (what, you expected me to not comment on that? :p). I enjoyed the story though got sort of annoyed at some characters' stubborn streaks (working together can't be that fucking hard).
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time Decent Kagome and Inuyasha's relationship advances just a bit, but no kiss as of yet (shouldn't be about damn time?) in the midst of another enemy set on avenging the loss of a loved one killed by Inuyasha's father. I enjoyed the fights most of all, everything else was secondary. *shallow*
Iron Man (TV) Good I really enjoyed watching this one...at least until the last two episodes. The ending comes off retarded and corny as hell. So the world has free energy, so what? There's tons of other issues affecting humanity that cause conflict, energy isn't a fix-all and really Tony should know better given how smart he is. Dammit, Japan, why are you fucking up the Marvel comics so bad? -_-; Sorry, but the series got my hopes up it would stay good, I hate being disappointed.
(The) Irresponsible Captain Tylor (OAV) Very good Not really sure why Dom and Tylor's crew reverted back to disrespecting/distrusting Tylor so much in the first story considering how the TV series ended. My only issue with this series is Tylor isn't in many of the episodes, I really wanted one set from his POV. Still, it was impressive how everything tied up in the end, I just wish the Soyokaze hadn't been destroyed and the ending left so open. Please, RightStuf, translate the light novels for me.
(The) Irresponsible Captain Tylor (TV) Excellent While I do love the story and characters (the humor is really well done), a few episodes here and there didn't really add anything to the series. Still, it should be praised for excellent character development and an unconventional plot line. Tylor's fool act reminded me of Constantine at times (a high compliment coming from me). I wish I could read the original novels the anime was adapted from, but unless some fan has translated them in their spare time, I probably never will.
Isaku (OAV) Bad Why is there so much focus on enemas in hentai? With no answer to my question, I'll focus on the story, what little there was of it. A school full of rapists sounds amusing yet the execution was horrible. Little to no character development at all. Bleh, glad I fast-forwarded through most of the OAV.
Isaku Respect (OAV) Awful I don't get it. Was this a remake of the original OAV or some sort of new story with the different outcome? o.0 Yeah, I was majorly confused with all the flashbacks and dream sequences and really wish I'd spent my time watching something else.
Jewel BEM Hunter Lime (OAV) Decent Blanked out.
Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade (movie) Masterpiece In a world where appearances are deceiving, life is not all it could be, and civil conflicts, can two people truly have an untainted relationship? Woven around a fairy tale, this intriguing story is definitely one to watch.
Jing, King of Bandits: Seventh Heaven (OAV) Excellent God, the dream world was damn pretty, I seriously can't imagine how much fun you'd have there if it really existed. Story was surprisingly romantic, and I enjoyed it a lot, along with the music as well. ^_^
Jing: King of Bandits (TV) Very good In a truly bizarre and original world, Jing and Kir steal items said to be unattainable, while having a hell of a good time doing it. This quite deserved the OAV that followed it (which I want to see).
Jubei-Chan 2: The Counterattack of Siberia Yagyu (TV) Good It might be just me but beyond the addition of a rival, I think the basic story was reiterated with new characters. I did enjoy watching it, but I had a feeling I seen it all before in better incarnations. I've just got one nitpick really, and that's that no one fucking explains how they managed to live 300 years without aging! It can't be willpower alone, not with that many people. -_-;
Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch (TV) Very good More than the story, I like the characters (especially Koinosuke though why did he have to leave at the end? ;_;). That said, it's a bit silly at times but I have no complaints. ^_^
Jungle Emperor Leo (movie 1997) So-so Witness the death of animals (and some humans) in a lion's quest to become who he's meant to be, oh, and never mind the fact Disney copied almost every aspect of this into 'The Lion King.'
Junji Ito "Collection" (TV) So-so So, I'm not the biggest Junji Ito fan. I've only read "Spiral" and thought it basically hammered the point down way too far. This anthology is decidedly on the low budget side with bland animation and a whopping three episodes dedicated to a fucking annoying character named Souichi. It's kind of a shame because some of the super short bits were good, which proves the overall direction of the anime is to blame for it to be so boring.
Junji Ito "Collection": Tomie (OAV) Good Ah, actual smooth animation! I liked this OAV, it got straight to the point and didn't overstay its welcome. I'm not quite sure why Tomie's decissection scene was censored, though if the anime was made for home video. Regardless, some really neat visuals and the mystery of who exactly Tomie is was good.
Junjō Romantica (TV) Excellent I love it. Seeing Asami and Misaki in full color and moving so animatedly makes me a happy girl, Nowaki and Hiro's stories in particular are excellent (if a tad condensed). The only thing I'd change is to have the explicit details put back into the naughty bits but it is being broadcast on TV so I can understand why they toned it down some. Please don't let this just be 12 episodes! ;_;
Junjō Romantica (OAV) Excellent Three really cute snippets from the main couples. All the characters are adorable. ^_^ It's too bad RightStuf didn't include this OAV in their physical media release. I would've loved that.
Junjō Romantica 2 (TV) Excellent Yep, still love this series to bits. I like all the couples (Hiroki and Nowaki are my fave though). As usual, it's really funny and damn sweet at the same time. It gives me all kind of warm fuzzies since everyone is adorable in their insecurities among the myriad of misunderstandings. <3
Junjō Romantica 3 (TV) Excellent More man smut goodness, of which I always enjoy. It's quite nice that the couples evolve over time. In particular, I like the addition of Isaka and his partner Asahina this season. It's great having minor characters take the forefront, rounding out and adding to the overall cast. ^_^
Juon: The Grudge (live-action movie) Decent Not bad, but definitely not the spookiest horror movie I have seen in my long horror movie watching career.
Kachō no Koi (OAV) Very good Surprisingly funny with very tongue in (ass) cheek humor. :p I rather enjoyed all the jokes and the apparent worldwide understanding/acceptance of gay men. Very refreshing in a BL anime. More, please! ^_^
Kai Doh Maru (OAV) Decent As I can recall, the animation was really fucking pretty, the story was a tad confusing and it was too short.
Kakurenbo - Hide & Seek (movie) So-so Good points: The premise, and character designs. Bad points: Really irritating characters, and a predictable ending. Overall impression? Nice but I wouldn't buy it unless it was damn cheap.
Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- (TV) Very good While I don't think food is nearly as important here as it is in the manga, I ended up enjoying this series a lot. The ending, in particular, was really heartwarming and made me cry. The only drawback, as far as I can see, is that Odanna comes off a little too friendly, which makes Aoi wavering between him and Ginji less fun. I have no idea if that's how it is in the light novels, but I would love to find out. Anyway, it's definitely worth seeing, and I'd gladly do it again.
Kaleido Star (TV) Decent Okay, I don't mind watching it but it's akin to watching paint dry at times (not to mention some characters I want to take a chainsaw to, they're so fucking irritating). On the other hand, I enjoy watching the characters' completed routines (or maneuvers as it is), even if they defy gravity and physics at the same time. So, in all I probably wouldn't watch it again but it was worth watching if just once, all the way through.
Kaleido Star: New Wings Extra Stage (OAV) Decent I felt this was entirely useless. While I appreciated some back story on Fool's origin, I really didn't give a crap about Rosetta's troubles since she seems to be suffering from the same I-must-run-away-rather-than-just-face-reality disease like everyone else at Kaleido Star.
Karas (OAV) Decent It was really damn pretty. So pretty that the story (weak as it was) got left behind in digital dust. It's the same old "humans are ruining the world, so I must end it and start it anew." Definitely won't be watching it again anytime soon.
Karin (TV) Good It was tough to get into at first (blood flowers? Come on -_-;), but I fell in the series' pace soon enough, at least until Winner was introduced (I really fucking hated his character, I've had it with dumb foreigners). When some episodes nearly bored me, I looked to Boogie for amusement, for a plushie, he's damn amusing and should have been shown more. In the end, I liked Kenta and Karin as couple (though if Karin had given in to her nature sooner, everything would have resolved sooner). One thing bothered me a bit, sometimes Karin's blood increased for no reason, what was up with that?
Kase-san and Morning Glories (OAV) Very good This was really cute. A little slow in places but Kase and Yamada looked really good animated. It's a shame that the manga couldn't have been turned into a TV series so we could have seen all the cute moments in their relationship. Maybe once the college sequel is done.
Kaze no Yojimbo (TV) Masterpiece I really love when anime surprise me, as this one had a damn good mystery at it's core even if it did take a few episodes to set up. Once the ball started rolling, I was horribly hooked, and really enjoyed seeing everything climax. I don't know why I doubted Kurosawa Akira. ^_^
Kaze to Ki no Uta SANCTUS -Sei naru kana- (OAV) So-so I didn't like this one, the guys were too young for my tastes and were far too pretty (shotacon anyone?), the story was overly dramatic in some parts and I will never understand why Serge fell for Gilbert in the first place. In all, way too slow and light for my tastes (I demand hardcore action in my shounen ai/yaoi anime). Vastly overrated if you must know.
Ki*Me*Ra (OAV) Not really good Erm, this made little sense to me as a whole...probably because the plot was too big for a measly 48 minutes, and even then the story wasn't handled well. I'd have preferred less tentacles and explosions, and more actual development from characters. -_-;
Kiki's Delivery Service (movie) Good A simple movie but enjoyable nonetheless. Tiny bit annoyed that Kiki held a grudge against Tombo (aka Usopp) for so long without good reason. Some aspects of the story went unexplained like why Kiki suddenly couldn't hear Jiji talk anymore, but it is the most childish Miyazaki film. Guess I can't begrudge it that.
Kill Bill Chapter 3: The Origin of O-Ren (movie segment) Very good I thought the anime sequence was overrated but the rest of the movie is excellent, as killing rampages are forever amusing to watch.
Kimagure Orange Road: The Movie Very good Have to re-watch, withholding comment until then.
Kininaru Kimochi (OAV) Good Hmm, sex on elevators, how fun. At least no one peed or pooped so in that, at least this hentai is watchable. The most entertaining story had to do with the "cursed bra", man if I had that, I would make my enemies wear it and watch from afar, laughing evilly. Pretty amusing stuff.
Kino's Journey (TV) Masterpiece I was vastly impressed with the variety of the stories, characters, atomsphere, just about every element of the series impressed and entertained me. I liked the fact it wasn't afraid to be negative at times, and Kino's attitude through most of the anime was refreshing. I really really want to read the novels now. ;_;
Kino's Journey - the Beautiful World- (TV) Good It's not as good as the first series (then again I haven't seen it for years). Some of the stories were a bit predictable and boring. Having only read one of the light novels, I can't be sure if Riku, Ti, and Shiro are from the source material or not, but it's nice having another protagonist in the series. Kino will always be my favorite though. In all, the disjointed nature of the series kind of works against it. It ended on murderous sheep after all.
Kirepapa (OAV) Excellent 1-2. Such a crack story (go ahead and try to guess all the twist and turns, I dare you), it's great fun watching it all play out. I loved the psychotic father, so freakin' devious. I wonder if the manga is just as good as the anime and whether or not there's more than two episodes to this. I'd sure welcome it.
Kiss Him, Not Me (TV) Very good So, I'm a fujoshi, but I know the difference between real life and pretend. I do love how manic Kae is and how slanted her POV is even if her weight loss is completely unbelievable. The hot guys tripping all over each other to date Kae was great and I look forward to see who ends up hooking her. Hopefully Mutsumi has a chance, he's my favorite. I loved the addition of Nishina to the harem; I like the possility of yuri there. The series had a fair ending though with the manga still ongoing, it couldn't have ended any other way.
Kiss in the Dark (OAV) Good Ah, I really enjoyed watching this even if it wasn't overly smutty (I didn't bat an eyelash at the father x son thing either- like I really care as long as there's yaoi?). I did wonder about all of Mira's friends though, hot high schoolers they were (and all after Mira, which I am so not surprised by :p).
Kite (OAV) Decent This one bothered me somewhat, the animation wasn't as fluid as I would have liked and there were long scenes of still movement where the characters should have been blinking (but weren't). I did like all the violence but it was after such scenes that I wanted to scream at the assassin: "You just left fingerprints, skin cells and your fucking gun at the crime scene! Do you want to get fucking caught?! Argh!" The sex bits were also unimpressive and I could have done without them entirely, I feel kind of sorry for Oburi and Sawa, they just can't be happy.
Kite (live-action movie) Weak I wasn't overly fond of the original anime, but this adaption was really boring most of the time. The South African setting did little to improve the bland feel and without the physical and emotion manipulation by the villain (Jackson), Sawa's shock at the twist was rather weak.
Kite Liberator (OAV) Weak Monaka irritated the crap out of me, so much so that I fast-forwarded the last 40 minutes because I couldn't her blubbering any longer. I hated the sci-fi element of the story (why the hell was it needed?), and am confused by the ending (I get that Monaka and her father reunited but where do they go from there?). I definitely prefer the original anime even if I didn't like it all that much.
Kizuna (OAV) Good Classic yaoi, brought down by the fact whoever released this didn't know what the hell they were doing; Ran and Enjouji survive regardless.
Kizuna: Much Ado About Nothing (OAV 2) Very good They stop just short of actually showing the naughty bits, which annoys Hikaru but she can forgive anything in face of Enjouji. :p
Knight Hunters (TV) Excellent Unless you're a fan of bishounen, who can ignore cheap animation, I'd steer clear of the series. Myself, I enjoyed it, probably more than I should have (all that death and angst).
Knight Hunters Eternity (TV) Very good Weiss is back with new character designs (*cough* always pay artists) in a smaller format that does it good, as Omi's not quite the brat he used to be but this series does leave a lot desired in certain areas (read: the ending).
Koi Kaze (TV) Masterpiece As an equal opportunity smut fan, I had no issues with the main incest bit, and was cheering the siblings on in their romance. The series pace was slow, but it suited the story so well, I didn't even notice half the time; I was very fond of the main couple and even felt oddly touched in some scenes. I think the reason I liked this so much is that it was quite different from the usual shoujo fare.
Kusatta Kyōshi no Hōteishiki (OAV) Very good This will never measure up to the original manga, but for a two-parter OAV, it's good. I liked the music and the seiyuu. I'd love to see a TV series of this. ^_^
Kyo kara Maoh! (TV) Excellent What a great fucking story. It started off slowly then once it took off, I needed all the self control I had not to rush through the series (as I wanted to savor the anime while it lasted). No complaints regarding animation, characters or seiyuu (though I'm ashamed to say it took me a while to figure out Sanji's seiyuu played Hube, what can I say other than the fact I was distracted by Morikawa Toshiyuki's greatness?). The only reason anyone would hate this is if they didn't care for hints of shounen-ai (which never go anywhere, something I'm strangely happy about; the possibilities abound ^_^).
Kyo kara Maoh! R (OAV) Good I wasn't that fond of the episode order. Just finish story lines already instead of jumping around time lines. Still, it's nice to see more of this anime, I loved the TV series after all. I just wish some of the stand alone episodes had been better (the pink bee bear and the love machine one were retarded). The only really interesting one was the Small Cimarron storyline and that one was only two episodes.
L change the WorLd (live-action movie) Good I like L, make no mistake, but by focusing on the virus subplot, my interest sort of waned as the movie went on. It was obvious everyone was going to be okay and the whole "Near" bit at the end makes no sense when you refer to canon (i.e. the original manga). It's a good movie, but a little forgettable compared to the first two Death Note films.
Lady Blue (OAV) So-so Huh, this was interesting but I really felt the story was shoved together at times (like that whole bit with the Shikima King being related to Kyoshiro, when was that mentioned in the first three eps?). I think Miko's first love was doomed from the start, not to mention she turned into a huge idiot and crybaby around Hidemasa. Stupid love making people insane.
Land of the Lustrous (TV) Weak Is this Whump the Anime? It sure as hell felt like it. Pho had so many near-death experiences it was ridiculous. I liked the concept, but the characters just didn't vibe with me. The story went around in circles, and it didn't even go anywhere in the end. No idea if the manga is any better but I don't really care to find out.
Last Exile (TV) Masterpiece I really enjoy this series but I'm damn pissed at one character's death in the last episode; regardless, everything about this series is top notch (especially the story and animation).
Last Order Final Fantasy VII (OAV) Decent I don't know enough about the video game to follow this though I understand the gist; there were hot guys, talented seiyuu and decent fight scenes. That's all I need really. ^_^
Last Quarter (live-action movie) Very good I had some problems with this movie, even with Hyde's hotness added to it. I did not like the main character, and her boyfriend even less (fucking cheater), in fact the only people I liked were Hyde, and the two students investigating the mystery. With what the ending revealed, was there even a need for the whole story? -_-;
Legend of Crystania - The Motion Picture Very good I quite liked this movie, not sure why so many others hate it so much, I mean, yes, it was sort of a continuation to the second 'Lodoss' anime, and the animation was bland, but I liked the seiyuu and story.
Legend of Duo (TV) So-so Uhm, correct if I'm wrong but I don't see how death could be a disease...(you live, you die, such is life, it's not really something you can cure, vampire blood or not). It's an interesting series but not really something I could get into (it's pretty as all hell, yes, but I don't get the story). I mean, what's the point?
Legend of the Wolf Woman (OAV) Good This was pretty good, plus it had the added bonus of quite a variety of shape shifters. I have to wonder about the fat Indian man's methods but hey, as long as it works. The story was kind of circular and I would've liked a few more details here and there yet I was satisfied anyway. What do you expect out of this kind of story?
Lesson XX (OAV) Excellent Much as the title may promise, this anime's really sweet, and it's light for a yaoi title, beyond a kiss and some choice molesting, it's pure fluff.
Level-C (OAV) Decent Extremely nice seme, and very meek uke meet, go through all the steps into a relationship and live happily ever after.
(The) Lost Village (TV) Not really good I had no idea what was going on in this anime until the last two episodes. Even then, I didn't give a shit about any of the characters except the bus driver (the least annoying one in the cast). I liked the concept of the story (hardcore therapy for damaged individuals), but the execution was so messy. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a drama, comedy, or horror. As a result, everything was disjointed, even the characters. Too many stereotypes and a lot of overacting dialogue. Ugh, just annoying anime in all.
Loups=Garous - The Motion Picture Not really good I fell asleep twice watching this, that should tell you how much I didn't enjoy it. The story couldn't decide whether it wanted to be a murder mystery or a slice of life film. I was also confused at the werewolf connotation in the title because a cannibal does not a werewolf make, and whatever gender Azumi claimed, I don't believe they were anything supernatural despite their claims to the contary. I'm so glad I watched this during a Freeview, I would have been pissed if I'd paid for it. -_-
Love Hina (TV) Weak Sigh, yes, the original harem anime. While I love the manga, I less than like the anime, as it's basically the same thing over and over. Poor Keitaro...
Love Hina Again (OAV) Bad Didn't like, don't much care to comment on it.
Love Hina Spring Special - I Wish Your Dream Weak Didn't like, don't much care to comment on it.
Love Hina X'mas Special - Silent Eve Very good This is probably the only Love Hina anime I really like, as I thought it was about damn time Naru admitted to Keitaro that she loved him (who cares if he's a nerd?).
Love Stage!! (TV) Excellent So fucking adorable! ^_^ Really reminds me of Gravitation (in a good way). Quite true to the manga with perhaps a few changes here and there. The only drawback to the series is the strange censorship of turning people into pieces of the sky when a sex scene comes up. It's BL, okay? Get over it already. Animate it or just skip over it if you're uncomfortable. I laughed my ass off watching this, and it only served to remind why I like anime as a hobby.
Love Stage!! (OAV) Excellent God, they're just too adorable. I could watch their relationship progress forever, and still be amused by it. Pretty funny one-off, and I really hope a second season of the anime is made soon.
Loveless (TV) Good I really didn't know what to make of this anime at first, the animation is beautiful but the story's not really coherent (we get little hints but never the whole picture). I hold to my opinion the cat ears and tail are dumb (they're not really needed), and are only there to keep some fans watching it. I loved the 11th episode of this (stalking upon stalking amuses me greatly).
Lunar Legend Tsukihime (TV) Very good Finally, a vampire anime that doesn't stick to the norm, not to mention one of the characters in this has an awesome power, the ending wasn't to my liking but the series is well worth watching.
Lupin III THE FIRST (movie) Excellent The animation was really good, super smooth. About the only character design I didn't like was Zenigata's, something about the chin and eyes was off. The story was a typical paint-by-the-numbers affair, but it was quite funny and entertaining. I'd welcome more movies done in the same style any day. ^_^
Lupin III vs. Detective Conan (special) Excellent Awesome crossover, about the only character that got short changed was Goemon. I really enjoyed the story, especially the finale, which was so funny (poor Zenigata, he's been drugged so many times). I do wonder how exactly Lupin and gang knew about Shinichi's identity but at least it was amusing watching him freak out. My only nitpick (maybe the second at this point?) is that it wasn't really versus anything, they cooperated pretty well together. I'd love to see a story where Conan and Lupin were after each other. ^_^
Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie Very good This title is very dependent on on the previous special, and even though I'd rewatched it a week or so ago, I was still a bit lost when it came to some story details. I swear some things were never fully explained. in any case, every character got a chance to shine (even Ai), and I couldn't have been more happy with how some things turned out. The end scene was really funny, and I'd actually love to see Kaitou Kid go up against Lupin. Make it happen, Japan! ^_^
Lupin III: Crisis in Tokyo (special) Excellent Solid story, action, and great side characters. Maria was especially amusing and I sort of wished she'd given Zenigata a chance by dating him. My one complaint is Goemon and Jigen were given really stupid excuses for being underpowered (stolen sword and a cavity respectively). Come on, really? I also noticed Conan in the opening so the crossovers started way before the official movies. :p
Lupin III: Dead or Alive (movie) Masterpiece Oh, man, this kicked fucking ass! First off, the animation was damn smooth, and the story was really interesting. In particularly, I liked the bits with the nanomachines (pretty and deadly). This is now my favorite Lupin III movie ever. *happy sigh*
Lupin III: Dragon of Doom (special) Very good What do the Titanic, a dragon figurine, and a scroll have in common? Kick-ass-ness, that's what. ^_^ I liked this one because it seemed like it could really have happened, impossible sword slicing tactics aside. That, and Goemon took the spotlight this time (well, sort of).
Lupin III: Farewell to Nostradamus (movie) Very good Very action packed, sometimes to the detriment of the story. Pretty damn funny in places though. The Nostradamus element was a bit of a red herring, I wish it had been goven a bit more prominence in the movie instead of the kidnapping. Still, well worth watching. Loved the Tiny Toons cameo!
Lupin III: Island of Assassins (special) Good Quite a dark little special, but when you're dealing with assassins, a high number of deaths should be expected. It wasn't a bad story either, very predictable in the last half though. So not bad, the increased focus on Lupin was well done with the rest of his gang getting nice scenes. Pickled plum indeed, Goemon...
Lupin III: Missed by a Dollar (special) Decent It started off well enough, but halfway through it was all coporate talk, oil companies, and an apparently magical brooch and ring, which you guessed it, was boring. Even the ending was yawn worthy as nothing really changed for the gang. I felt like someone was ticking off boxes as to what elements belongs in a Lupin movie and didn't venture out of the formula at all.
Lupin III: Operation Return the Treasure (special) Very good Novel idea for a special, Lupin having to give rather than take. I enjoyed the adventure, though poor Zenigata never got much of a break. The ending was pretty.
Lupin III: Return of Pycal (OAV) Weak While I enjoyed Evil Zenigata, the rest of the OAV was not good. It just sort of ended abruptly, and the secret endings were odd. Not one of my favorite Lupin anime, not at all.
Lupin III: Strange Psycho-Kinetic Strategy (live-action movie) Decent What a strange, silly movie. You can definitely see that it was very early days for the fandom, and Lupin's character was still being developed. I sort of missed Goemon, though. It was almost so bad, it was good. I'm glad I watched this with someone else because it would have been hard to see on my own.
Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro (movie) Masterpiece Out of the Lupin movies I've seen so far, this one is the best, animation and action (while unbelievable at times) is great.
Lupin III: The Columbus Files (special) Good Wow, Goemon gave Jigen the kiss of life 27 times, eh? Nice, didn't expect that bit of slash. The story boiled down to Lupin vs. Buggy (the villain had the same VA), which got a bit old towards the end. Still a good special to see especially if you want an Indiana Jones-style anime.
Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy (movie) Good So, while I think the story is solid (except for Goemon apparently marrying a high school girl), what took me out of the movie many times was the fact the seiyuu was completely different than the usual team (the one that's been used in 300+ episodes and countless movies). Not that the replacements did a bad job, but it's just not the same. I thought Zenigata becoming a monk after believing Lupin had died was hilarious, those two should make out already. :p The animation was great. In all, a good movie, if a bit by the numbers plot wise. Keeping it in Japan was nice.
Lupin III: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon (movie) Decent Holy shit, Goemon can cut lightning?! O.oThat's amazing. I haven't seen any of Pink Jacket Lupin series yet so it was nice to view a bit of it. The movie dragged in certain spots with the ending in particular being right out of left field. God as an alien was a new one on me, I'm not used to seeing flying saucers in a "Lupin" movie. The character designs bugged me a lot, Fujiko having the worse one of the lot.
Lupin III: The Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure (special) Masterpiece This was a damn good special, as the story was compelling and Goemon so desperate for money for amusing. The only thing I didn't like was the Neo-Nazi leader, as it sort of creeped me out (especially the tongue biting thing o.0).
Lupin III: The Secret of Twilight Gemini (movie) Good I could sort of predict where the story was going, but it was enjoyable nonetheless, especially the actions of the capable old-timer Zenigata paired up with. That, and Lupin got the girl (usually they all spur him). ^^
Lupin III: Voyage to Danger (special) Good A Jigen focused movie and a good one at that, Zenigata joining Lupin upon losing his job was a great touch. ^_^
Lupin the 3rd (TV) Very good What I'd call vintage anime yet it's no less entertaining to me than a modern day series. Hand drawn animation, I missed you! *sniffs* I liked the darker stories and the few adapted from the manga. Excellent anime worth watching, shame most fans give it a miss because of its age. 13th episode was awesome, time travel, yes! ^^ 19 was really funny as well.
Lupin the 3rd: Bye Bye, Lady Liberty (special) Good Being the first special, I'm inclined to give a little leeway. So while the story was so-so, I did enjoy the animation and characters as they bounced around from city to city. Unrealistic parts? Sure, it had that. The main damsel in distress dying in the end was unexpected. The only thing that didn't really work was the supernatural bits, and what exactly they had to do with a super virus. Just weird. Anyway, not bad for a first effort.
Lupin the 3rd: From Siberia with Love (special) Decent Hmm, I didn't really like this one. Some parts were cheaply animated (repeated frames, janky character expressions, etc), and the main villain's fetish with sticking his fingers into people's mouths and such was odd. I mean, I guess it was nice seeing a lovesick Goemon and Lupin doing a lot of work on a job, but other than that it wasn't a great special. Next please.
Lupin the 3rd: Napoleon's Dictionary (special) Excellent I loved this one. Everyone had a beefy role in the story and the fact Zenigata and Lupin sort of switche places halfway through was really interesting. So, great story, animation, and it was a a fun time all around. <3
Lupin the 3rd: The Hemingway Papers (special) Very good The slash/friendship between Goemon and Jigen was strong with this one. It was nice seeing Lupin have to rescue his comrades rather than the opposite way. Poor Zenigata couldn't catch a break, felt a bit sorry for him. Of course the treasure wasn't actually anything useful but at least it was original.
Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo (movie) Good This was a wild ride. I could never quite predict where the story went or how characters would react during certain twists. It's very much influenced by the source material (the manga) so some scenes were a bit, uh, racy. Lupin nearly assaulting Fujiko and saluting Hitler as a couple of examples. I mean, I did enjoy watching it, but you do have to check your brain at the door or nothing makes any sense at all. What I did learn was that while Fujiko and Lupin love each other, Lupin also loves Zenigata to bits, even ending the movie handcuffed together. So adorable. <3
M.D. Geist (OAV) Decent I'll admit it, just when I was about to lose interest in this, Geist did something absolutely evil and won my respect, as he is the perfect soldier, only alive when he's fighting so setting off a doom's day device to destroy the rest of humanity just so he'll have something to do is just...perfect. >:)
M.D. Geist II - Death Force (OAV) Good Much better animation this time around, and I was actually interested in the story too. The ending had me laughing (evilly that is) so it definitely kept me amused. You should never ever piss off Geist, he'll kill you and think nothing of eliminating anyone else around. *bows to the greatness of Geist*
Macross Plus (OAV) Decent I was mostly confused about some of the story but I enjoyed Isamu's attitude and his utter joy when it came to flying. Murderous computers are also amusing except...the ending was sort of weird (Myung was abandoned, ha!).
Magic Knight Rayearth (TV) Excellent This is where I get my main nickname Hikaru, thus this series is rather dear to me. It's what got me back into anime actually, and as such, I'm eternally grateful. With good characters (save for Fuu), story and art, how can you go wrong?
Magic Knight Rayearth 2 (TV) Excellent With a more mature story, this is my favorite incarnation of Rayearth, as it has bishies, nice romance and interesting characters. Not to mention, the thought of a threesome with Eagle, Lantis and Hikaru is nice. >:)
Magical Girl Raising Project (TV) Very good It started out cutesy, then all hell broke loose when the death race begun. It got damn dark, but was very unpredictable. I felt so bad about La Pucelle's death, he was probably my favorite character out of the cast. Alice's death as well was hard to swallow. The ending was okay, but by that point, I was tired of Snow's pacifist shtick. I'm annoyed she was one of the game's survivors. Still, a surprisingly dark, yet excellent series in all.
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (TV) Masterpiece When all was said and done, I loved this series, though it started out as a comedy, it proved it could go far beyond that. Highly impressed I was.
Magical Witch Punie-chan (OAV) Excellent Oh my god, this anime was fucking funny, not to mention, damn evil most of the time. Sort of like Excel Saga but more based in the shoujo genre (twisting it and wrecking havoc). I do have to say though, that if I were friends with Punie, I'd watch my back like a hawk (considering she's not beyond using her friends). ^_^
Maid Service (OAV) Bad Didn't really care for the character designs (too cartoonish). Action had far too much bodily function in it (why enemas? I don't get it), and the ending came out of nowhere. "Bang, bang, bang, oh is that my best friend? No, please, don't hurt my mother stand-in! Blargh....*dead*" Definitely among the worst I've seen.
Maiden Rose (OAV) Excellent The manga was much better at developing the characters. You only get a vague sense of what makes the main couple tick or why they're even involved with each other. Still, I enjoyed the story, wishing there had been more than two episodes. The omake shorts were fucking hilarious, the best part of the anime beyond the pretty animation.
Make Up! Sailor Guardians (movie) Weak What a dumb idea for a special. Let's rehash what makes the Sailor Senshi so fucking great, blah blah blah, show clips of previous events to appease the peons, end anime. -_- Really, if Usagi was talking as loud as she was, wouldn't the people overhear her and discover all the Sailor Senshi's identities? ^^;
Marriage (OAV) Worst ever "Oh my god, you're not married?! Come around, girls, let's start plotting. Which guy would make the perfect husband? Oh, him? *one phone call later* That's great, you now have a date with someone on Friday, and if you don't fall madly in love with him, we'll kill you. *giggle* Have fun!"
Mask Danshi: This Shouldn't Lead to Love (OAV) Good Such pretty animation. The story was okay, but it's hard to get attached to the characters in such a short timeframe. Still, it was a nice simple love story. Who knew Goda's seiyuu could sound so sexy?
(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) Masterpiece This was a damn good series, I loved the characters, the utter randomness of some episodes, the strange elements here and there; there's absolutely nothing I would have changed about this anime. Masterpiece indeed. ^_^
Memories (movie) Good Given it's three stories...Magnetic Rose gets a 3/5, mostly because it was beautifully animated even if the story wasn't too impressive. Stink Bomb a 4/5, it was my fave out of the trio because it was black comedy at its finest. Cannon Fodder was 1/5 since the story was so fucking boring and went nowhere. In all, not bad.
Mermaid Forest (TV) Decent I want to like it, I really do, but the mermaid myth is just used around stand alone stories which are predictable and not all exciting (except for the last two episodes, those kicked ass mainly because it was bloody as all hell). Sadly, I think Rumiko Takahashi and I just don't mix well together.
Metropolis (movie) Excellent I quite enjoyed the story and music (Rocky was a bastard though), as well as the vivid animation throughout this movie.
Mezzo (TV) Good Okay, I liked this series for the most part, but the ending didn't answer any of the questions brought up (like what happened to Kazuto? What was the whole point of the cover-up? Who the hell was Aya?).
Midnight Sleazy Train (OAV) Very good This is one of best hentai anime I've seen yet (it was so damn amusing, Tetsuo's "godly" technique never failed to capture women and it was rather nice seeing women who weren't forced into anything enjoy themselves -they're almost always raped otherwise-). Loved the bit between the two male train employees (a nice addition from all the straight stuff). I'd definitely buy this if I saw it for a good price. ^_^
Midnight Sleazy Train Track 2 (OAV) Decent Once the second episode rolled around, I became horribly lost in the storyline (if there was an organization behind the Sleazy Train, wouldn't they have let Takumi completely into it if he was bringing so many sacrificial lambs to them?). It's like every good element of the first part was sucked out in favor of random sex encounters. The flashbacks confused me at times as well, but at least Takumi was hot. :p
Midori Days (TV) Excellent I love this! ^_^ You'd think a story about a guy with a girl on his right hand wouldn't work, but the execution is really good. I thought the ending was sweet too (just what I wanted to see ^_^).
Mirage of Blaze (TV) Excellent A very good anime, just be sure you take notes of who's who, or was in a previous life, as it can get rather confusing unless you pay close attention. Go, Naoe, make Takaya yours! ^^
Mirage of Blaze: Rebels of the River Edge (OAV) Excellent Takaya and Naoe's relationship is really complex, and if the two of them would stop jerking each other around, they'd actually go to bed together...willingly, without resorting to rape. Rather than focus alone on the above two, this was about Haruie as well, which wasn't bad but that's not why I watch this anime. *pouts*
Miyuki-chan in Wonderland (OAV) Decent This is probably the only lesbian anime I own, I like it for more the character designs than anything else.
Mobile Fighter G Gundam (TV) Decent While I wanted to kill this series sometimes, Schwartz and other characters amused the hell out of me and brought my opinion of the series up, but I still dislike the ending (I mean, what the fuck?).
Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV) Excellent Ah, Frey (Fllay), how I hate your guts. Beyond her, I quite enjoyed this series, the gundams were awesome and the storyline truly was masterful, if I had to complain about one thing, it'd be the strange names which are damn hard to recall later on.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (TV) Masterpiece First Gundam series that really sucked me in, it also helped me become the yaoi fanatic I am today, so thank you, Gundam Wing, for making me a pervert, and for introducing me to the greatness of Wuffers. ;)
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (OAV) Excellent We can't always avoid Relena, can we? Ignoring her being present, I really enjoyed seeing the Gundam pilots (fight) again, not to mention, more Wuffers is always good. *glomps Nataku pilot tightly*
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team (OAV) Very good One Shiro Amada is engaged in a war against Zeon (their land forces to be exact), add in the stress of falling in love with an ace female pilot in the Zeon forces, and this makes a damn good anime. ^^
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Miller's Report (movie) Decent Basically a big review episode, which is okay but if you've already seen the TV series, it's damn boring. I think that interrogation officer needed a good slap for treating Shiro as rudely as she did. Thank goodness for the fast forward feature on CMP, otherwise I would've probably fallen asleep watching this. ^^;
Momo: The Girl God of Death (TV) Good I'm not especially impressed, but it's got a good pace to it, and there's nothing outright disturbing despite what the title implies. In fact, all the stories have a sweetness to them, and Momo herself is quite positive, even though she's a shinigami.
Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls (TV) Very good Okay, given the subject matter, I expected to dislike the series, but it was so charming and honest about the contrived premise, I couldn't hate it. I actually really liked it, truth be told. ^^;; My faves were Miia and Rachea, the only girls I have no opinion about are Suu and Papi. As romance options, they sucked. I love the world-building (loose as it was), and would've liked to see some of the monster subspecies in the series. Still, it was a great off-beat ecchi harem title. ^_^
Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (TV) Excellent A really funny anime. All the voices fit the characters well. I was really sad it was only 12 episodes long, I could've easily watched two more seasons. Maybe when the manga finishes in the future?
Moyashimon (TV) Excellent I didn't think I'd like this one as much as I did but that's the good thing about watching anything once. If I could interact with microorganisms, I'd have fun with the ability (Sawaki treats it like a big burden mostly). In the end, I loved the series, I would have enjoyed having a Spring Festival like that. The rest of the microbe critters shown were so cute, I will definitely track down the manga and see if Sawaki's tale is continued there (as well as get more info on why Yuuki was cross dressing). I actually feel smarter for having watched this as well. ^_^
Moyashimon Returns (TV) Good A lot of the comedy disappeared this season, and the anime suffered as a result. Some of the educational stuff bored me stiff, and Sawaki's character oddly got pushed to the background in favor of a focus on Hasegawa's marriage troubles. Strange narrative decision. o.O The microbes were at least cute and I did learn a bit about wine making.
MPD Psycho (live-action TV) Excellent All right, I'll admit the effects look cheap at times, and I hate the static effect; the overall story is very different from the manga it was based on but I really enjoyed watching it. It was interesting seeing a live action version that still retained the overall mood of the manga series. ^_^
Murder Princess (OAV) Very good Falis is a damn cool character (so accepting of her situation) and it may just be me but did anyone else notice the yuri undertones when it came to the relationship of Falis and Alita? Forland has a lot of enemies for a such a small country. There should be psychological examinations for even royalty if they are to seize power. I'd be very interested in reading the original source material to see if the story had more details.
My Bride is a Mermaid (TV) Very good I expected this to suck at first but once Masa came on the scene, it made the show for me (the father and Maki were a just a tad overbearing at times). The situations Nagasumi and San got into at times cracked me (I loved the second episode where he's trying to dry her legs, it looked so fucking wrong ^_^). Damn amusing stuff. Having watched it all, it's way too funny most of the time (to the point of having to watch it in spurts to save my throat) and is super silly, but I loved it. Now where can I get more Masa? :p
My Dear Marie (OAV) Weak Aimless and pretty damn pointless in the end. Nonexistent storyline, and the third episode was the only one that was really interesting. Dream logic is always fun. I could do without seeing this again. -_-;
My Love Story!! (TV) Excellent So. Fucking. Adorable. Like seriously, I wanted to huggle the three main characters whenever they were on screen. Takeo and Rinko's relationship was so damn sweet, I swear I got a cavity from it. The show made me laugh and smile a lot, which said something about how much I enjoyed it. I loved that the series avoided the usual shoujo trappings, and realistically portrayed how relationships worked/progressed in the real world (i.e. not giving Suna a girlfriend because he didn't want one). Really refreshing that. My one complaint (yes, just the one) is I feel like Ai was mishandled when she was first introduced. Other than that, I have nothing but love for this series. <3
My Neighbor Totoro (movie) Very good Totoro was so cute! >_< Storyline was a tad simple but hey, when you've got cute animals throughout, how much more can you ask for? :p
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (TV) Excellent Pretty much just an animated version of the manga with some fun filler added in. It was so cute and wholesome, and I very much enjoyed watching it. I can't wait to see the second. <3
My Sexual Harassment (OAV) Very good Smut, smut, and more smut! I liked it, of course. ^_^
My Wife is the Student Council President (TV) Weak Whoa, whoa, whoa. Markiplier quotes aside, the uncensored version reached hentai levels fast. As for the actual story, I wasn't really impressed. It's supposed to be a comedy series, but I didn't laugh very often. All the girls seem permanently on the edge of orgasm, which is just a tad unrealistic. They're also very aggressive...I don't think I was the target audience in other words, bi or not. ^^;
My Wife is the Student Council President+! (TV) Weak More of the same shit that was in the previous series, which is also still not that impressive.
NANA (live-action movie) Excellent Out of all the adaptions of this series, I really liked this one mostly because it was short, clear to the point and everything was resolved quite nicely. I thought Nana and Hachi's relationship was shown well too (reminds me of Umi-chan and I in a way without all those slashy undertones ^^).
NANA 2 (live-action movie) Good Not as good as the first (because there was no baby, bring that into the picture and I completely lose interest, stupid Hachi sleeping around and not using proper protection -_- ). Nobu was a much better match than Takumi (especially since he's got women everywhere), basically all everyone's troubles could have been solved if Hachi and Nana became a couple (I'm sure Ren would be cool with that ^^).
Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow Decent That actress could have gone and died a hundred times over and I wouldn't have cared, she was that annoying. The story was pretty much a throwaway, and the only thing I liked about it was the fighting techniques. I want to summon an water dragon...
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (movie) Good Reminds me of Princess Mononoke in a way, and while the storyline is good, and the visuals excellent, I wasn't really into it that much.
Nazca (TV) Weak I'm sure one man sat in a office for a few hours, and suddenly thought, 'yes, an action anime combined with a reincarnation story having to do with the Inca Empire. It will surely be a hit!' It's a nice idea but the execution and designs, ugh...this anime is laughingly bad as it hits every cliche with no style or substance. A waste of animation.
Negima! (TV) Decent I really didn't like this one, truth be told. I find the manga itself far too slow and meandering so when you give me an adaptation and expect me to enjoy it, you're just asking me to get irritated. I find the idea of any romance between Negi and his class fundamentally wrong (which is why I think the class rep, Yue, and Nokoda are pedophiles). The only episode I really liked was the ghost girl's one, I found it very sweet and it's actually a better take than the original source material did. As for the story, I didn't see the point of Asuna dying if they were just going to bring her back to life three episodes later. The whole thing with Negi's class doing pacts with him was kind of cool but really corny at the same time. In all, I'd probably watch this again but I would definitely skip over a lot of episodes to save my sanity.
(The) Neighbor No. Thirteen (live-action movie) Decent Well, despite the weak ending (why the heck didn't he follow through?!) , I liked the slow pace of the story. Juzo knew his revenge well , I liked his violent counterpart, he was childish but damn amusing. Some parts did go on a little too long though...anyway, not bad in all. I just wonder if the original manga was better.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (TV) Excellent *Has absolutely no idea why so many anime fans consider this a masterpiece that raises above every title, in Nadare's eyes, it was an interesting series that fell flat on the attempt to be overly pyschological*
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth (movie) Decent A rehash of the TV series, with some new material thrown in; again, I don't see what all the hype is about.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (movie) Good This is a step up from the usual fare Eva has but I'm not really happy about the ending (talk about depressing).
New Hurricane Polymar (OAV) Not really good I brought this anime for a $1, that's pretty much all it's worth. ^^;
NieA_7 (TV) Very good I quite like the humor in this show, it's got a little punch to it and it's unexpected at times but I'm not sure about the storyline itself. I mean, it's amusing enough but nothing really exciting happens, and not a lot is resolved. :/
(The) Night Beyond the Tricornered Window (TV) Excellent The first three episodes are rough; I will not deny that. Despite that, I found the spirit-fisting scenes kind of hot. Once episode 4 rolled around, the story kicked into high gear, and I was fascinated by all the twists and turns. At its core, it's a story about redemption, those who can deserve it, and those who don't. Props to Hiroaki Hirata for his portrayal of Sensei; he was suitably creepy. I am very curious about the manga now, but the lack of a physical release is a bummer. I guess I'll pick it up if it ever goes down below $6. In all, a great series that deserves more attention.
Night Wizard The Animation (TV) Very good They should just let Renji go to the school as he liked (they've got other wizards, make use of them :p). The story, with its dark change halfway was really good, I was amused at who the big baddie turned out to be in the end. The wizards' Kaguya power reminded me of the Heero Hole (stick whatever the hell you want in it and pull it out anytime). Nightmare was my favorite character (his way of saying 'dream' is too funny), episodes 6 and 8 struck me as entertaining (then again so was the whole finale).
Nighthead Genesis (TV) Masterpiece The beginning greatly amused me with all the violence and potential yaoi vibes, and even to the end, I enjoyed this series, since it presented many ideas and made me ponder a lot. I just wonder about some of the characters' motives, especially a few of the villains (or were they villains in the first place? You never really find out). Naoya and Naoto's power developments were most interesting, though I'm a bit confused about Naoto's apparent teleportation in a few instances.
Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective (TV) Very good One Shido, vampire detective expert, solves cases while avoiding Cain, the vampire who sired him, but you can only do one thing at a time, right? ;)
Ninja Cadets (OAV) Decent Group of ninja cadets, fights, fire, scrolls, end anime.
Ninja Scroll (movie) Good Your basic hero and crew find themselves involved in a great deal of fights, my favorite is the bamboo fight with the blind guy (his name seems to have slipped my mind).
Ninku the Movie Good I wasn't overly impressed with this movie, but I was amused as hell by the strange looking kid. He's adorable! ^^
No Money (OAV) Good This started off so domineering, but it's actually a pretty cute story. I couldn't care less about Ayase (his eyes are freaky; he looks drugged all the time), yet Kanou amuses the hell out of me. I love men who are awkward at showing affection and are quite innocent despite their fishy occupation. ^^ I think Kanou should just use Ayase as a sex toy and be done with it. About the only drawback is the character designs are a bit crap, the proportions alone are ridiculous. Loved the extra bit at the end, the story needed a lot more comedy in it.
No. 6 (TV) Good I was really intrigued with this anime, the premise was interesting, as were the protagonists. The BL romance was a tad forced at times, especially during the dancing scene. I also didn't get the random singing bits, they just came out of nowhere. The ending itself was a clusterfuck, including a manufactured apocalypse, nature bee god, and deus ex machina resurrection. It all fell apart in my opinion. I'm curious if the source material is any better...overall, despite my complaints, I liked the series, but it definitely has flaws, deep flaws.
Noblesse: Awakening (OAV) Very good Has a Korean manwha been adapted as anime before? I think this is a first. Rai looks way too mature to pass for a high school student. Besides that, it's very similiar to Hellsing (with a few changes obviously). Fucking beautiful animation, so much blood whipping this way and that. I would dearly love to see more of the anime just to see where the plot line goes...
Noein - to your other self (TV) Masterpiece I think this is the heaviest story I've ever seen in anime to date, quantum mechanics, theta particles, time space, infinite futures, you really had to pay close attention to the story and assimilate everything. Thus, I loved it, it made me think harder than I've ever had to anime wise and I was transfixed almost every minute of the show. Fucking excellent anime in all.
Noir (TV) Good Well, damn, this turned to be good, character development in particular. I still don't like the slow pace or overuse of flashbacks but I could watch this again easily (just with one finger on the fast-forward button at all times :p).
Occult Academy (TV) Very good I really liked the story. Yes, it was like "The Terminator," but the humor was great, and quite abundant. The last three episodes take a darker turn, and while it was entertaining, it was very out of left field. I feel sorry for future Bunmei's fate.
Ogenki Clinic Adventures (OAV) Weak I wouldn't watch this again, it tried to make hentai situations a comedy but failed oh so badly.
Ogre Slayer (OAV) Not really good This series bugged the hell out of me. I'm not sure if it was the repeated violence towards women, or the simple storyline but I could only stand one episode of this in all.
Oldboy (Korean movie) Masterpiece This movie both disturbed and deeply impressed me. I was in a state of shock for more time than I care to admit after watching it, for this it earns the grand honor of being one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's sooo fucking good and different from the usual Asian fanfare. I'd like to read the manga adaptation someday.
One Piece 3D2Y: Overcoming Ace's Death! Luffy's Pledge to His Friends (special) Excellent So while this helps fill in the time Luffy was training, and it was amusing to watch, I'm not sure why it was made. To show Buggy as a Warlord (surely there's better choices out there for the position) or to tease about Luffy's shiny new capabilities? At least Boa got to show off her fighting skills. World was the weakest link in the special though I understand why his character was needed.
One Piece Episode of East Blue: Luffy to 4-nin no Nakama no Daibōken (special) Very good I don't actually mind Oda's old art style so while I appreciate the updated animation, this special only really exists to acknowledge the series' 20th anniversary. As a shortened version of the five character's pasts, it's a little disappointing in terms of drama. The continuity is all off (little details like Nami's bandaged hand, Zoro's wounds, and Zeff's cannibalism aren't present), which bugged me a bit. If I want to see the crew's pasts, I'd just rewatch the series again than this condensed version. So, okay, but other than the smoother animation, nothing special.
One Piece Episode of Sabo (special) Very good This is basically a summary of Ace/Sabo/Luffy's past during the Dressrosa arc with scenes of Sabo added in as he investigates underground arms dealing. I'd already seen most of it in the TV series itself. I wish the special had focused on Sabo's times with Dragon instead. I did enjoy the extended fight scenes in the coliseum though. In all, it's not bad yet it could have been so much better.
One Piece Film Gold (movie 13) Masterpiece I watched this dubbed...and it didn't suck. Gasp! That said, the story and animation were great, and the cameos from past character in previous TV arcs was amusing (Wanze got a girl?!). Seeing the crew basically flip the game on Tesoro was so satisfying and Lucci and Sabo's battle a neat treat (though short). I'm quite glad I saw this on the big screen as I would have missed out on the awesomeness. Viva 1p! ^_^
One Piece Film Red (movie 15) Excellent So stylish and pretty, very much loved all the Straw Hats' outfits except for Franky's. The story was good, if a tad predictable. I just liked the fact Shanks got his own movie after so long. Songs were great, especially the angry ones. All in all, it would have been amazing to see in theaters but small screen worked too.
One Piece Film Strong World (movie 10) Masterpiece Is it really a surprise I loved this one? The story was solid, the action good, and humor excellent. I also really liked the various outfits the crew donned in the course of the movie. Why does Sanji look so good in pink? Damn talented cook. ^_^ This was the only anime I really wanted to see at Con Ja Nai and it delivered on all counts. ^^
One Piece Film Z (movie 12) Masterpiece Oda should write all the 1p movies, seriously. This was so good! Z came off as a really well developed villian (compared to the usual 'I want to destroy the world' ones). Enjoyed the younger Straw Hat members, and everyone looked fucking great in their various outfits (gasp, even Franky! o.0). Great story and an awesome movie overall. Cheers, Oda! Please do another! ^_^
One Piece Jidaigeki Special: Luffy Oyabun Torimonocho Excellent I quite enjoyed watching this, even if I didn't catch every little detail (watched it raw). I loved the outfits, the characters who were placed as certain villians, and the general look of the special. I wish more episodes had been made really.
One Piece Special – Adventure of Nebulandia Excellent I really enjoyed the Davy Back Fight arc (even the filler stuff) so having Foxy and his crew return was nice. Quite impressed it was Sanji and Zoro that had to be saved, and the Navy guy was tough. In all, a really great special that was damn entertaining to watch. ^_^
One Piece Special: Adventure in the Ocean's Navel Excellent Any 1p title makes me happy, this was no exception. Really liked the story by the end of the special too. ^_^
One Piece Stampede (movie 14) Very good The setup was great, all the cameos by various characters nearly too hard to spot in crowd scenes. The Straw Hat's crew outfits looked good. The finale, while satisfying, could have been better. Bullet just seemed like a generic villain, offering nothing new in characterization. Honestly, the entire movie was like a love letter to the franchise and given it was made to mark the series 20th anniversary, it did its job very well. Well worth venturing out into the cold October weather to to see in theaters on the big screen. ^_^
One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (movie 6) Masterpiece Holy shit, this was a really good movie! Dark as all hell, but fucking great. Love all the games, and the animation is something to behold (pretty sure it's the same guy who did one of the Animatrix shorts). The people eating flower creeps me out though. *shudders* My favorite 1p movie most definitely. ^_^
One Piece: Chinjō Shima no Chopper Ōkoku (movie 3) Excellent Did you happen to notice how hung up Sanji and Zoro were with each other in this? No? You must be blind then. :p That aside, another quite good movie, especially since it's mostly Chopper themed (and who doesn't like him?).
One Piece: Dead End (movie 4) Masterpiece Finally, Robin shows up (I rather like her character), and the Going Merry crew is involved in a race, which of course, leads them onto a conflict that Luffy resolves by beating the bad guy up. As genetic as it sounds, it's really good. ^_^
One Piece: Defeat The Pirate Ganzak! (special) Decent Eh, wasn't too impressed with this (different seiyuu for the main characters and lack of Sanji, as well as the rest of the crew just disappointed me). That, and the story sort of sucks, I get the feeling everything would have resolved okay without Luffy stepping in.
One Piece: Django's Dance Carnival (movie) Excellent Hmm, shorts like this are damn amusing. Seeing the crew dance is fun. ^_^
One Piece: Dream Soccer King! (movie) Excellent It's too bad American movies don't put shorts like this in their releases, but anyway, a good piece of fun though you knew exactly who was going to win. :p
One Piece: Episode of Chopper - The Miracle Winter Cherry Blossom (movie 9) Decent Sigh. Where to start? It's a reimagining of Chopper's intro to the crew, and they changed soooo much. No Vivi (Robin is her stand-in), no Going Merry, there's suddenly snowmobiles, and Luffy can use his Gear modes. The two things that pissed me off the most though? Wapol having a brother who represented a greater threat than him, and Chopper's role having been lessened to almost a footnote IN HIS OWN FUCKING MOVIE! WTF were the writers were thinking? Despite my complaints, I did like some things in this film, but not much. Animation was a step-up from the TV version, and I did think the gang working together in the finale was nice.
One Piece: Heart of Gold (special) Very good A prequel to the Gold movie, which I am dying to see at this point. The special was pretty good though I do feel some of the Straw Hat crew got short-changed by being made Mad's slaves. I question how they got caught in the first place. They're not on Luffy's crew for nothing after all. Still, I enjoyed watching it, Sanji's reduxed jealousy about an invisibility power was amusing.
One Piece: Mega Mecha Soldier of Karakuri Castle (movie 7) Masterpiece Ah, such a satisfying story to this. I was a little surprised Zoro didn't bleed profusely though. The little hint about Luffy's Gear ability was nice. Loved the little baby turtles at end (so cute). As expected, a great One Piece movie (I don't think I'll ever be disappointed in that aspect).
One Piece: Nejimaki Shima no Bōken (movie 2) Excellent I really liked the plot and action, as well as the amusing villains, plus you got to see everyone out of their usual attire. ^^
One Piece: Open Upon the Great Sea! A Father's Huge, HUGE Dream! (special) Excellent I think this is the special I've seen, it was pretty good but the ending was a tad abrupt.
One Piece: Protect! The Last Great Stage (special) Masterpiece Ah man, these specials never fail to impress me, especially when they deal with Luffy and crew trying to act. ^_^ Of course, there's major ass kicking too, which is always good (Sanji, Zoro...*happy sigh*).
One Piece: Take Aim! The Pirate Baseball King (movie) Excellent Watching everyone try their hand at batting was damn amusing. ^^ Just wish the seiyuu had been able to voice their own characters...
One Piece: The Curse of the Sacred Sword (movie 5) Excellent A Zoro centric movie this time around, and it's pretty good. However, I think Zoro is a bit OOC since I doubt he'd intentionally hurt one of his nakama (even Sanji). Still, nothing 1p can be bad. It's impossible. :p
One Piece: The Desert Princess and the Pirates: Adventure in Alabasta (movie 8) Good They cut out a lot of what made the Alabaster arc fulfilling and fun. I suppose if you have to watch it in 90 minutes, this would do but you're missing really important bits. What I missed the most was the classical music set in the fight between Luffy and Crocodile, it fit so well. Don't really understand why this couldn't have been another original movie...
One Piece: The Movie Good It's a little short for a theatrical feature but a good story and action make up for that, it's definitely worth watching at least once. ^^
Only Yesterday (movie) Very good A nice and slow movie about a middle-aged woman looking back on her life, and good it was, so good it had me grinning at the end because the woman did exactly what I wanted (talk about feel good endings ^_^).
Orange (TV) Good So torn about the anime. On one hand, I liked the concept and some of the characters, but the execution drove me up a wall. So much freakin' melodrama. Naho was so annoying, I wanted to slap her sometimes. I applauded the realistic depiction of suicide and depression, but I much preferred Suwa to Kakeru. He was the unsung fucking hero of the anime for me. It made me a bit sad he had to sacrifice his happily ever after so Kakeru could live. Have better taste, Naho! Ending was okay, but did nothing to endear the anime to me. It gets a Good rating for the premise, genuine sensitivity regarding depression/suicide, and Suwa only. The rest? Meh.
Orenchi no Furo Jijō (TV) Decent Fluff upon fluff with no real BL content despite the racy premise. It made me laugh a few times, and I liked the Maki character the best just for his amusing personality. Other than that, nothing too special, yet nothing bad either. Not that memorable though.
Origin ~Spirits of the Past~ (movie) So-so While it's pretty as hell, the story and characters are completely lacking. I found Agito's obsession with Toola unhealthy and the whole idea of enhanced humans who turn into trees is silly to me. Istok should have leveled that world, and Agito should have stayed a tree (he was more interesting that way).
Orphen (TV) Good Mediocre is the first word that comes to mind but this series does have it's good points, in that the story is above average, the big bad point is that the ending is beyond screwy.
Orphen: The Revenge (TV) Weak Why the hell did they take 16 damn episodes to get to the meat of the story? They could've strung the story throughout the monster formula, but no, they left the good stuff for last. Hikaru's not impressed. -_-
Our Home's Fox Deity (TV) Decent I love the premise and subject matter, but the pacing is so slow! It's a slice of life series really given nothing too major happens in 24 episodes. It took me quite a while to finish the series... Ebisu amused me (making a ruckus just to yield the profits; nice one, god). Also loved Ku as a character, yay for switching genders at the drop of a hat. Other that that, not watching this again.
Ouran High School Host Club (TV) Masterpiece I have nothing but love for this series (seriously, this is probably my third favorite anime of all time). I love how they animated it, how well they followed the manga, how intact all the characters are, there is absolutely no flaw in this. I want another season, dammit! ;_;
Outlaw Star (TV) Good I got one of my nicknames from here (though I hardly use it anymore), which pretty much means I loved the show, I just wish the ending had been a little better.
Pale Cocoon (OAV) Good Really fucking pretty this was, I only wish it had been longer. The story seemed quite interesting for the short length (did what's-his-face survive? ^^;).
Paranoia Agent (TV) Excellent I love how Little Slugger solves problems, he reminds me of Ishii a bit, just bash whomever's bothering you with a bat and all is well. I love this anime to death really, it's crazy but it all makes sense, in a strange way. Fear the Maromi!
Parasyte (live-action movie) Excellent I've been wanting to watch these films ever since they were announced. It was definitely worth the long wait, as the special effects and acting were quite good. Certain characters/subplots were cut out for time and simplicity, but most of the story remained intact. About the only misstep was the radioactive waste faculity fight (what was wrong with regular poison?), and Satomi's beefed up role as a love interest (I really needed more time for the relationship to develop). I absolutely loved the fact part of Shinichi's mother survived being taken over, and that Satomi thanked Migi for the impromptu rescue in the last scene. Given we never saw Mr. Serial Killer again, I have to assume he lives to kill another day. :p In all, fantastic LA adapations, which I'm glad exist. ^^
Parasyte -the maxim- (TV) Excellent I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to this series, having read the manga multiple times. I don't like all the added stuff, but for the most part it followed the source material really well. I wasn't disappointed by the series in the end, and thought the voice casting was great (Migi in particular). Madhouse's animation was fucking exquisite even if they had to tone down a lot of the gore in the fight/death scenes. I swear my little geek heart skipped a beat everytime a parasite transformed. ^_^
Patlabor 2: The Movie (movie 2) Very good Yes, yes, political plot good! Keeping track of it all bad!
Patlabor WXIII (movie 3) Excellent Color me odd, but I really liked this movie even if I'd never seen any Patlabor anime before it. Perhaps it was the mystery aspect of it, and being unable to predict how it would all end.
Patlabor: The Movie (movie 1) Very good Labors may be the main thing here, but when the story starts engrossing you instead, you don't care about much else. I also enjoyed the random comedic moments. ^^
Peacemaker (TV) Excellent Japanese history, samurai, swords, fighting and one little boy caught in the middle. I really enjoyed watching this series, both for the swordplay and the story (though it turned dark in the latter half).
Perfect Blue (movie) Very good After quitting her pop group to opt for becoming an actress, Mima is slowly losing her grip on reality, or is she? A great thriller overall.
Perverse Investigations (OAV) Good Ah, plot, you will forever be precious to me (as well as no bodily fluids during sex scenes). I liked this for the most part, I just wonder how Shiori made Mayayoshi and the others forget they murdered the teacher themselves (drugs, brainwashing?). Also, what was the deal with the birth certificate at the end, did it have some importance you never find out?
Pet Shop of Horrors (TV) Very good It can get a tad episodic, but I rather enjoyed it all told. Animation was good (go Madhouse) and the stories interesting enough that I could see why they animated them out of all the manga chapters available in the series. Shame there's only four episodes. Might finally pick up the last few volumes of the manga I need so I can further explore this universe...
(The) Place Promised in Our Early Days (movie) Excellent This...really hit home with me, beyond the alternate worlds and airplanes, there's a very simple story of losing the places of your childhood; proving nothing lasts forever, no matter how much you want it to.
Please Save My Earth (OAV) Very good Unfortunately, the anime comes to a screeching halt after six episodes, which is a shame. The animation was beautiful, and though the anime did skip over some important details in the manga, I really enjoyed it. Alice and Shion could have used some more character developmemt because the former came off as whiny and the latter just plain psychotic. It's a small nitpick among so many positives though.
Pom Poko (movie) Good I've got nothing against raccoons, even shape-shifting ones but did they really need to use their private bits as weapons? Wouldn't that hurt? ^^; Ah well, beyond that, I enjoyed the movie, that goblin parade was damn pretty.
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (movie) Decent It's a beautiful visual treat, but the narrative is so loose and sloppy, I can't really see myself watching it again anytime soon. The source material is barely recognizeable, which is a shame. I also wish Ponyo and Sosuke had been teenagers so their sudden love declarations had more weight to them. I have a hard time believing that their relationship will last, when they're both only five years old. In short, watch, but don't listen to this film. Your eyes will thank you.
Porco Rosso (movie) Masterpiece Oh man, I loved this movie! The little bits of humor here and there, not to mention the fight at the end were right up my alley. My favorite Miyazaki film hands down. ^_^
(Le) Portrait de Petite Cossette (OAV) Excellent This was beautiful as all hell, though I do have to complain that the first episode doesn't make much sense (is the order of events screwed up purposely?)...I liked it by the end, yet could have used some clarification as to whether Kurahashi does indeed come back to the real world (if Cossette woke up, I somehow doubt he would). I expected the story to be creepy but it's really not, it has a sort of sweet streak even though the painful parts.
Prétear (TV) Very good Honestly, I thought I would hate this, I only picked it up because I found it used but upon watching it, I really liked the story and characters, even if most of it was predictable, it's solid shoujo though, so if you don't like that genre, I'd stay away. ^^;
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (live-action TV) Very good It was odd seeing this in live action at first but it turned out to be damn good (it comes off a little cheesy at times but what do you expect for a shoujo superhero story?). I thought Psychotic Usagi was done quite well (it was a good change from the overly romantic version in the manga and anime), also I was impressed with the Four Generals and their little subplot. ^_^
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal (ONA 2014) Good Beyond the fact I don't really think the series needed a reboot, it's not terrible (I guess...). I fucking hate the CGI transformations, and Usagi's seiyuu seems to have gone shrill crazy. I do appreciate the updated character designs, and the more faithful adaptation of the manga yet the animation is sooo bad, it's rare when something doesn't look awkward. The first half is okay, but honestly by following the source material so closely, the anime comes off as stilted and boring to watch. I have a hard time mantaining interest, and SM is what got me into anime in the first place. I feel terrible saying it though that makes it no less true: I'll probably always prefer the original 90's series. The numerous filler episodes made the admittedly predictable story much better.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal (ONA 2015) Very good It's definitely better than the first season, I'll give it that. I still have problems with the animation and lack of character development though. Chibi-Usa is actually not annoying (gasp!), and was pretty interesting in this incarnation. The addition of Pluto was also appreciated, the Outer Senshi rock. I'm tentatively excited for the next season since some of the series flaws were addressed and fixed in this one.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal: Season III (TV 2016) Excellent I loved this season. No more garish 3D transformations, smooth character designs, and as a huge fan of the Outer Senshi, I'm happy to see them join the team. The Infinity Arc is my favorite arc and Crystal (mostly) did it justice. There's still flaws (story pacing, non-existent character development for the Inner and Outer Senshi), but I can happily overlook them. Let's hope they make the next season more interesting than the 90s anime ever did...
Priest (live-action movie) Bad Hollywood took everything I loved about the manga, and turned it into a typical shallow action flick. I was pissed off watching this, and wish they'd been more faithful to the source material. I have no idea why such big names were cast either, it's not like it made the movie any better.
Princess Mononoke (movie) Excellent I hated this the first time I saw this, then I rented it on a whim, and all the sudden, everything made sense! I can happily watch this now without any problems, which is good because it's a very good movie. ^_^
Princess Nine (TV) Good I picked this up for little more than $20 bucks, and having not expected much, I was pleasantly surprised when I got sucked into the storyline, while predictable at some parts, this is a great series.
Princess Principal (TV) Good I love the setting; it's so unique. The moe element is lost on me (I'm not the target audience), and the character archetypes are a bit annoying, especially when I have a hard time believing these girls could be spies or hold their own against grown men and women so well. Much of the story is predictable, but I enjoy the smooth animation and all the steampunk elements. Music is so-so, as the English opening and endings could be better (the singer mumbles to my ears). All my complaints aside, I did enjoy the series but I doubt I'd watch it again.
Princess Resurrection (TV) Very good t's not the best I've ever seen, but the storyline was amusing (that poor mansion, it takes so much abuse). The variety of weapons Ojou-sama made use of was quite refreshing (who doesn't want to watch someone go to town with a chainsaw? ^_^). I'm curious how many times Hiro is going to die by the end of the series. :p -After finishing the series, I can definitely say that the repetitive nature of the story was its downfall. Monsters attack, then die. Repeat ad nauseum. The only two episodes that really stood out were Hime's duel with her brother, and even then, I was only interested because he had Sanji's seiyuu, and Hime and her family were future phoenixes. I also hated a few episodes since they were idiotic. -_-; So, not the best series, but fun to watch if I don't want to use my brain.
Princess Rouge (OAV) Very good One of the first OAVs I watched, thus it will ever remain one of my favorites, I'd kill to find out what happens next though. -_-
Project A-ko (movie) Weak Why the hell would anyone want C-Ko for a friend? I felt like killing her five times over the whole time I was watching the movie. The only parts I really liked were the alcoholic captain and the "Colonel" horror movie. Otherwise, I could do without watching this again.
Psychic Detective Yakumo (TV) Very good It was a bit one-shoty in the first half of the series with the villains being rather obvious, but I liked the characters. Yakumo's attitude around others amused me, but he needed better contacts if they could just fall out at the drop of a hat. :p Don't really see why he bothered when people can have two different eye colors and not be labelled freaks. The second half of the series was really well-written, I didn't expect Isshin to die or the father to get a free pass in the end (due to his nature). I would love to read the novels someday because I'm sure some plot points weren't covered in the anime, and much of the story was super interesting.
Psycho Diver: Soul Siren (OAV) Good If I could dive into minds, I would so implant evil ideas and watch them take fruit whilst laughing evilly. ...^^; Comment on the anime? Fine. For what it was, I enjoyed it, plus the dub was actually good.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (TV) Excellent The character designs bugged me a bit (everyone looks like a smushed midget), but the dark deconstruction of magical girl tropes was very interesting (and surprisingly dark). I do think that doom and gloom atmosphere was a bit much at times (Sayaka's corruption seemed abrupt and Kyoko's full on personality turn towards the finale was sort of WTF-ish). I suppose the ending fit the mood of the anime, though Madoka didn't exactly save the world, just a small selection of girls who fell to Kyubey's manipulations. I absolutely loved Homura, her plight and character arc actually made me cry a few times, it was so heartfelt. She's the only reason I would buy this if I found it at a reasonable price (don't be dicks, Aniplex -_- ). I don't think the series is a masterpiece by any means, as the animation could be lackluster and the music repeated itself way too much, but I'll admit the anime turned the magical girl genre on its head and is worth seeing once.
Pumpkin Scissors (TV) Excellent I like the story, it's unconventional for a war anime and the guy who attacks tanks just amuses me (yeah, let's see how much you can injure yourself in one encounter). I was impressed with Alice's character (very strong for a female character), as well as the underlying story beneath the daily happenings (though I would've liked to see closure on the 'evil society' bit, guess there wasn't enough episodes for that).
Puni Puni Poemy (OAV) Very good Poemi has problems but she's rather amusing so it all works out (I like the fact she abused her powers and went crazy so randomly ^_^). Is Shii related to Hyatt in any way? Because they looked quite alike. ^^; Very weird anime yet enjoyable at the same time, I was laughing my butt off in some parts (especially when K had all of Poemi's foster family tied up and preceded to do "hentai" things to them).
Pure Mail (OAV) Good Wow, an optimistic hentai, color me shocked. Beyond the rape of Miki and the blackmailing teacher, it was very upbeat (despite some of the characters' pasts). So, yeah, I liked it, actually glad it worked out between Ogata and Midori, they really seemed to care about each other. ^_^
R.O.D -The TV- Excellent I immensely enjoy the characters and the powers they command, the ending was sort of anti-climatic but a pretty satisfying overall.
RahXephon (TV) Excellent My opinion of this went from "Hmm, well, Ayato's a dead-ringer for Shinji" to "Wow, why'd they take so long to develop the story?" That said, I'm a little confused by the end, but it's good stuff around.
RahXephon: Pluralitas Concentio (movie) Very good Up until the last half hour, this made sense to me (but it really is a condensed version of the TV series), I didn't particularly like how it ended but I enjoyed watching it (for what it was).
Ramen Fighter Miki (TV) Good Rivals Excel Saga in its frenetic pace. Mostly silly stuff, but some of the jokes repeat a bit too much. I laughed a lot during the scary looking teacher's story and when Nishiyama and Miki fought as trains. The rest? Just okay.
Rayearth (OAV) Good Hikaru, Fuu, and Umi are back, and this time, the trouble comes to their own city, Tokyo. I really liked the darker element in this but overall, I prefer the TV series. ^^
Read or Die (OAV) Very good An unlikely storyline and heroine make this one a must-see, a bit less impressive atmosphere wise compared to the TV series but still very good anime in the end.
Record of Lodoss War (OAV) Very good I really like the story and characters, and unfortunately, I have the dubbed version of this (Parn and Woodchuck's voices drive me nuts, so freakin' shrill). For an old title, it's still as good as the day it was made.
Requiem from the Darkness (TV) Good I'm still a bit torn on this...half of me appreciates the complex stories they have, while the other wonders just how tortured people must be for Mataichi and group to take action. The ending didn't go the usual route (though honestly it would have been nice if Author-san did go with them); in all, it's one of the better horror titles out there.
Restaurant to Another World (TV) Very good So much food porn, it makes me hungry seeing that many dishes. I still find the premise and characters interesting and appreciated the new stories that were likely lifted from the light novels. Gotta sit down and read those one of these days. I can't wait to see the second season! ❤
Restaurant to Another World (TV 2) Excellent More slice of life goodness with fantastic-looking food that always makes me hungry. This anime made me make different varieties of curry. I love the way it looks, and while there's not a major storyline other than people discovering new dishes, it's still really fun to watch. I need another couple of seasons, stat. :p
Revolutionary Girl Utena (TV) Good For the most part, this was a good series, though more than a few episodes drove me insane (Nanami, I'm looking at you, you dumb fucking slut). I want to know what the hell was up with the Student Council's antics inside and outside of meetings (what's the stop watch for, Miki? Huh?!), I liked the mythology of Akio & Anthy's backstory, as well as the overall finale. Dislikes, however, were the purposely vague answers in some situations where it wouldn't have been hard to explain, the utter lack of variety in fights, and the way the series turned soap-opera-like near the end (Akio, sigh). However, Touga, for a dead man, gets around a lot. :p
Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie Excellent This is worth watching for the dance scene between Anthy and Utena alone, the rest of the movie is just extra. I'm one of the few who didn't have any problem with the odd ending (I thought it was fitting).
RG Veda (OAV) Good CLAMP's work is always good, and this was no exception, though really ending where it did was irritating, why didn't they make it a TV series instead? It would've fared better.
Riding Bean (OAV) Weak Meh, nothing really bad or good about this. It was just something to watch that went by fast, but that was about it. I guess it's a sequel to "Gunsmith Cats"? I haven't seen that one in quite a while...
Ring (live-action movie 1998) Very good Now, this is horror, the atomsphere was suitably creepy, the story much better than the American version, what else could you ask for?
(The) Ring (live-action movie 2002) Not really good Meh, what was so scary about this? The only vaguely creepy thing was the flashing to the dead bodies they did, I yawned through the rest. Give me 'Ringu' anyday.
(The) Ring Two (live-action movie 2005) Weak
Ristorante Paradiso (TV) Decent I loved the setting because I am a sucker for Italy. The food looked great as well. As far as characters go, a lot of them fit into stereotypes despite the anime doing its best to develop them further. The old men in glasses fetish was lost on me. I kind of hated the mother (for choosing love over family), and to a lesser extent Nicoletta for falling so hard for someone more than half her age. Overall, it's not a bad series, but I wouldn't rewatch it anytime soon. It's just too slow for me.
Romeo × Juliet (TV) Decent I had high hopes for this one, but sadly they screwed with the story too much and as a result, it's corny and predictable. The original play was a tragedy because Juliet and Romeo's deaths could have been easily avoided. By bringing fate in (aka Escalus), any dramatic impact was lost in the the end. I liked the majority of the supporting cast (except Willy) and the fantasy setting yet the weak writing really underscored those few highpoints. Flawed series to say the least.
(The) Roommate (OAV) Decent What is it about Suguru that has women falling all over themselves to get him to live with them? o.0 Unless it's his equipment since they always seem satisfied with it in bed...anyway, this wasn't bad, I probably won't watch it again but it was worth seeing once.
Roujin Z (movie) Decent Half creeped out and amused as I was by this, I'll probably never watch it again (can you blame me for not wanting to see an old man indulge his whims?)
Royal Space Force - The Wings of Honnêamise (movie) Excellent I can't remember what I thought of this. ;_;
Rurouni Kenshin (TV 1996) Excellent Despite the so-so third season, I loved this series (Saito and Aoshi especially), the Kyoto arc stood out as the best though.
Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection (OAV) Excellent In the same vein of the OAVs before it, this is fantastic anime, yet the story/characters are set in a somber setting so you're bound to feel a bit downhearted by the end. Impressed I was with the animation and clever use of flashbacks to the series.
Rurouni Kenshin: The Motion Picture Very good While I agree they flashbacked on the opening scene too much, I rather liked this movie, as I enjoyed the plot and character interaction.
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) Masterpiece Dark, violent, chock full of angst, how much better can Kenshin's past get? One of my favorite anime ever, and it will remain ever still.
Ryokunohara Labyrinth - Sparkling Phantom (OAV) Not really good Uhm, okay, I guess this was shounen ai yet it could also have been about a very deep friendship. The story was really confusing, and Fhalei was fucking annoying. Blah, not worth my time! -_-
S-CRY-ed (TV) Masterpiece Meet Ryuho and Kazuma, they're two hardened individuals who refuse to concede on their beliefs, as such, they are forever rivals, and don't stop fighting even when the anime ends! Hikaru loves that, in fact, she really can't find any faults in this, it's just too perfect. ^_^
S.A (TV) Good I wish more of the main cast's character depth had been protrayed in the series, rather than just focusing on one attribute. Hikari in particular was super dense when her manga counterpart was much more perceptive. It's not a bad series overall (it made me laugh at times), but the manga is superior. I'd rather reread that than watch the anime again.
Saber Marionette J (TV) Decent I want to see the last few episodes, I'm interested in how it all ends (yes, it grew on me despite Lime's denseness).
Sailor Moon (TV) Excellent If you haven't seen this, you shouldn't be considered an anime fan. :p As whiny as Usagi can be, mostly all of the series is highly watchable.
Sailor Moon R (TV) Good Allen and Anne step in, and of course, every Sailor Senshi' life is interrupted. A pretty short series overall (though watching Allen try to seduce Usagi was amusing).
Sailor Moon R: The Movie Good Hmm, Fiore and Mamoru action is always good, even if you don't see it on screen. I'm surprised Usagi was as worried about Mamoru are she was, of course he's never going to die. :p
Sailor Moon S (TV) Excellent Need I say this is my favorite season of SM? I love the Outers and the finale was quite something. ^_^
Sailor Moon S: The Movie Excellent My favorite Sailor Moon movie, because I am amused at cats falling in love with humans and the world being randomly threatened by an ice queen, plus the Outers made their appearance in this. ^_^
Sailor Moon SuperS (special) Good The first story sucked (I don't need a summary for the first three seasons of Sailor Moon, I watched them after all). The second story amused me (Uranus will rape any woman she comes across ^_^), it also proves ventriloquists are inherently evil. Third story was weird, the vampire acted more like a cannibal than a vampire in my opinion (why couldn't she have killed Chibi-Usa? Not much of a loss for the Sailor Senshi :p).
Sailor Moon SuperS Plus - Ami's First Love (special) Weak Ami's damn excitable in this (the most emotion I've ever seen from her in fact). Hasn't Ami been in love before this? -_- I feel sorry for the yokai that attacked her, misplaced aggression if I've ever seen it. Kind of stupid special in all.
Sailor Moon SuperS: The Movie Decent All I really remember is torturing people with the kiddy song a long time ago. It's centered all around Chibi-Usa, like I really want to watch that. That being said, it has an interesting story, plus I was amused with the three-o-clock fairy (Sanji in Japanese ^_^ ).
Sailor Victory (OAV) So-so Average, oh so average.
Saiyuki (TV) Excellent Among the filler, there's a pretty good anime underneath it all (myself, I always liked the manga better though), but then I've been a Minekura Kazuya fanatic for quite a while now.
Saiyuki Gunlock (TV) Good The third series, and by way of plot, they follow the the 'Reload' manga, which is good until you reach volume 4 of the series. From there, filler and a really weak/lame storyline take over. Hazel was made out to be the big bad when he's not like that in the manga (it was easy for him to repent on his actions). I was shaking my head through the last six episodes, complaining to the TV as if it could fix things. I'm massively disappointed with the series, and really wish they would have waited for the manga to end. There was some great story lines to adopt from it.
Saiyuki Reload (TV) Excellent More Saiyuki, happy am I...well, mostly. I've just got one issue and that's the lack of plot (it's nearly all filler), which is odd considering how much story was in the original manga, but the Uru-sai segments make up for it! ^_^
Saiyuki Reload: Burial (OAV) Excellent I quite enjoy these stories of the gang's pasts, they're all insightful and you can definitely see how they incorporated these encounters into the characters you see in the main TV series. Really great stuff. Go, Minekura! ^_^
Saiyuki: Requiem (movie) Very good Gojyo's ass (in all it's wet naked glory)! I really liked this one, mostly for the complicated story (of course you knew how it was going to end though), really interesting set-ups, and solid characters.
Sakura Taisen: Ecole de Paris (OAV) So-so I liked this better than the original OAV but I wasn't overly impressed with it (it was the same formula put into another country, still had most of the same problems like who the hell are these people, and why do they need a male captain to run them? -_-;). I should probably just stay away from this series altogether at this point.
Sakura Wars (OAV) Not really good I feel like I stepped into a story halfway over, and was mostly confused about everything. I didn't really like how the anime dealt with time (too much skipping forward and not enough spent on explaining how some things came to be). Overall, very boring and corny.
Samurai 7 (TV) Excellent When all is said and done, I really enjoyed watching this, even if some of the deaths upset me (never a good idea to get attached to anyone in an ongoing war). I liked that so many of the elements blended together well to make this entertaining on several different levels. ^_^
Samurai Champloo (TV) Masterpiece Yes, let's count seconds by breaking fingers, it's fun for all ages! I love this series to death, it's got enough one-shot stories (with a variety of subjects, loved that baseball ep), action and story to tide me over anyday. And everyone lives to tell the tale too; absolute perfection in my opinion.
Samurai Deeper Kyo (TV) Excellent The only drawback of this series is the Kenyou monsters (which, while helping to move the plot along, are beyond stupid); it's when the series focuses on the characters and their struggles that the good story really shines through. The finale was great, very satisfying in regards to a certain couple, though I still prefer the original source manga this was based upon. :p
Samurai Flamenco (TV) Very good Okay, this was a strange series. It's a slow-burn slice-of-life comedy for the first six episodes, then it's a Power Rangers parody dialed up to 11, which then turns to a sentai show, then back to a slice of life comedy. Whiplash in a word. I was down for everything but the sentai plot that went on for four boring-ass episodes. I liked the rest of the show a lot. Goto and Masayoshi's relationship was bit click-baity at times and the animation was pretty shit during key moments. Still, I've always enjoyed superhero shows and Masayoshi's goal at fighting crime at any level, however small, was funny. I really wish I could have a physical copy of the show because the dramatic moments were very well done. So, yeah, in all, I loved the show, even with all its faults. It won me over in the end. ^_^
Samurai Gun (TV) Good If Weiss Kreuz had been set in Japan's past with more of hentai twist, this anime would have been the result (except Ichimatsu and crew dress tackier whilst on missions :p). It's quite entertaining and the missions vary at times, though the ending confused the hell out of me (the notes in the DVD helped clear it up but still, they couldn't have just said it clear cut?). I loved the outtakes, they were the best part of the show really.
Samurai: Hunt for the Sword (OAV) Good A complete OAV, shock of all shocks! Even more amusing is it's a damn good OAV at that (you can't go wrong with samurai).
Sands of Destruction (TV) Good Better than I was expecting, it had a kiddish vibe to it with the beastman element, but I easily ignored and enjoyed the story. Honestly did not expect the twist at the end, good on you series. Well worth watching again sometime in the near future even if it's just to watch Toppy kick ass. ^_^
Sankarea: Undying Love (TV) Very good I wish they'd waited until the manga was complete. Only three of the volumes were adapted, and the anime got stuck in one setting. They did a great job with the characters, fully developing them, but the anime ended rather randomly. It's begging for another season, they hardly touched upon the darker source material, and I'd love to see it animated.
Sasaki and Miyano (TV) Excellent Just as good as the manga, though the regular Triscuit/Dorito/Ritz showers during tender moments do get a bit old after a while. Still, the anime is sweet, gorgeously animated, and I can't wait to see the movie that continues the story. <3
Sasaki and Miyano (OAV) Excellent BL with added cats! It's adorable as hell. ^_^
Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei (TV) Masterpiece I greatly enjoyed the teacher's P.O.V. on life and how he "comforted" a lot of his wayward students. I'd want to be a part of that chain of stalkers and be on his list of traveling companions. Having watched it all, it's got to be the funniest anime I've seen, so many amusing elements. So happy there's a second season. ^_^
School-Live! (TV) Good Having only read the first volume of the manga, I was very curious how the story would progress. While I felt the swimsuit episode was unneeded and the ending corny, I enjoyed the series. I ended up with some F/F pairings out of it too (Miki and Kei seemed awfully close). Eventually, I'll read the manga too to discover all the differences between the anime. ^^
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (US live-action movie) Very good It's a pretty good movie. Much different ending than the comic, but it was a welcome change. It's most definitely worth seeing.
(The) Secret World of Arrietty (movie) Good Bit of a slow starter plot wise, but quite enjoyable in the end. Did a really good job setting the scene (the Borrowers' house and the doll house was beautifully rendered), and the relationship between Arrietty and Sho was nicely portrayed though I would have liked to have seen them interact more often during the story. Maybe an after credit scene where you see if Sho survived his operation?
Seikimatsu Darling (OAV) Very good Shame there's not more of this, I thought it was really amusing (seme vs. seme, love anything that features that). Of course, I can always go read more of the manga if I feel like it, that won't disappoint. Oh, pay close attention to the train ride scene, Shinji and Kaoru from Eva make an appearance. ^_^
Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi - The World's Greatest First Love (TV) Very good Oddly enough, I think the story works better in anime format. Maybe because the manic style and humor come out clearer? In any case, pretty good anime though Hatori and Chiaki's romance isn't really that interesting to me. I much prefer the other two couples.
Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi - The World's Greatest First Love (TV 2) Excellent Better than the first season, probably because the characters are more fleshed out at this point. I even started to like the Chiaki and Hatori couple. Also because it's covering manga chapters I haven't read yet, yay for skipping ahead. Loved the last episode which was set from Saga's POV. ^_^
Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi - The World’s Greatest First Love (OAV) Very good First episode? Very sweet. Liked that you got to see Saga's interest was peaked in Ritsu before the latter confessed. Second was okay, not a huge fan of the couple though I did like the ending scene.
Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi: Yokozawa Takafumi no Baai (movie) Excellent I always kind of thought Yokozawa was an asshole, but props need to be given for actually expanding his character and showing that he's definitely more than that. I quite enjoyed seeing his POV and how exactly he moved on from his love for Takano. Really sweet stuff. The Valentine's Day shorts at the end were a nice bonus. ^_^
Sensitive Pornograph (OAV) Excellent Ah, smut, how I love thee. I really liked the second story in this, and wonder about how Aki-chan the Rabbit got into that situation to begin with (too bad it's the shortest of the two stories). But anyway, I'd gladly watch this again, there can never be enough cheering for hot guys to get it on. :p
Serial Experiments Lain (TV) Good Okay, perhaps it's just me but some of that series just didn't make any damn sense, even if I did like some of the ideas it presented. It's...interesting to be sure but the plot is just too vague for me, innovative it may be.
Sex Pistols (OAV) So-so Usually, I like yaoi anime, but this one was just really bizarre. People descended from animals, breeding, heavy seeds. Yeah, I liked a little bit of it, but didn't enjoy being thrust into a universe I was unfamiliar with. I sort of spaced out throughout the majority of the series because of lack of interest. People fall in love way too easily in it if you ask me. Also, having sex when you're sleepwalking? I call bullshit on that...though it apparently happens in real life. -_-;
Sex Taxi (OAV) Very good All hail the great and powerful cab driver, witness to bad behavior, evil deeds and secrets aplenty. The man amuses me so with his stalking and blackmailing ways, he's so methodical about it. His method of hunting and collecting is nice since it adds some variety to the sex scenes. I'm glad the cops didn't catch him, he should be able to do as he pleases. ^_^
Shadow Skill (OAV) Not really good I really didn't see the point to this, it was all fighting and little plot. The dub was really bad too, but it was kind of amusing making fun of it as it went along (defeating someone= raping them). :p
Shamanic Princess (OAV) Very good I actually liked the order of the episodes, and I enjoyed watching the characters used their powers; felt sorry for the bandage guy.
Sherlock Hound (TV) Good This was a really cute series. Do I wish there were more villians other than Moriarty? Yes, but I did enjoy the steampunk setting and characters. It did make me laugh a bit too. It's definitely more suited for younger audiences, yet it's still worth watching at least once in my opinion.
Shiki (TV) Good So I watched the series online (at least the first six episodes) like five years ago, and finally, this year restarted and finish it with Umi-chan. While there are a lot of strange character designs (the hair especially), the story is nice and dark. Mostly unpredictable too, but the last four episodes suck ass. Seriously it was like everyone decided to make the worse decisions possible, whether they made sense or not. That's not even mentioning the core argument of the shikis 'I have to kill to live' is fundamentally wrong. Just move onto another victim before they die, it's not that hard. -_-;
Shinesman (OAV) Very good "With their damn dirty fingernails!" A great Power Rangers spoof that doesn't get old, and the dub is quite good as well.
Shrine of the Morning Mist (TV) Good First off, I liked it, even if it was amazingly predictable but...I've got problems with it (you knew that was coming, right?); first one being don't give the hero's best friend and the villian the same freakin' seiyuu, it's too easy to make the connection. Second, does Hiro have a dick? If he does, he sure as hell doesn't know how to fight for himself. I understand there wouldn't have been a story if Hiro hadn't needed protection but it got on my last fucking nerve.
Shugo Chara! (TV) Decent I'm not that impressed though I have to admit it was a lot better than expected. It's a different take on the magicial girl genre to be sure. If I suddenly found eggs in my bed, I would fry them up and eat them, Guardian Charas be damned. The Guardians at school were amusing, especially the alternative-personality Tadase who wanted to take over the world (hey, I'd support him if I wasn't already planning to do it myself). There is a TON of filler with a notable formula that does get annoying especially towards the middle and last of the season.
Shugo Chara!! Doki (TV) So-so It's nice that they changed the formula a bit, but the filler killed me. So many episodes for a relatively simple story that could have been told in 13 episodes max. The manga only had 12 volumes! Fucking hell. I will admit I do like a few of the character transformations (Death Rebel, Yamato Maihime, and Seven Seas Treasure). But why kill the dog?! Why Betty?! ;_; Also I apparently am the big baddie in the series though when I turned into a boy I have no idea. :p So not bad (when it follows the manga), but if I ever rewatch this, I'm skipping the majority of the series because most of it is unneeded fluff.
Silent Möbius (TV) Good I like this anime although I know it has it's share of problems, the ending bugged me a bit ("after this battle is over, we'll get knocked up and create new life..." woo freakin' hoo! -_-). I'm also amused as hell Kanteo Shiozawa played one of the characters (as he did Iason in 'Ai no Kusabi').
Silent Service (special) So-so A submarine wants to declare itself an independant nation, what's the problem? Just let the men live on that godforsaken submarine, they'll die eventually. The dub of this really impressed me but the story was so slow.
Skelter+Heaven (OAV) Bad That's got the be the most retarded way to pilot a mecha I've ever seen, wouldn't the pilot casuality rate skyrocket if the pilots' bodies were exposed so? All the characters in this were stupid, I really wouldn't be surprised if this was based on a dating sim or something with how random the declarations of love were. -_-;
Skip Beat! (TV) Excellent A really great adaption of the manga series. Since it's one of few shoujo titles I love, it should be no surprise I enjoy the anime. I'm shocked it hasn't been released stateside yet. Where's the second season already, Japan?! I want more... ^^;
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (TV) Good I'm glad the episodes were short, if they had been full-length, it would have gotten tedious. As it is, the characters and their experiences while working at a bookstore carried the series well. Some of the humor didn't quite land for me, but I did get a few chuckles out of seeing Honda deal with troublesome customers (especially fujoshi). It does get bogged down in the intricacies of the daily running of a bookstore, which does get boring at times. Still, it was a short half-funny anime I'm glad I gave a chance.
Sky Blue (Korean movie) Excellent This has really impressive animation, but the story did need a little work, regardless it's quite good.
Slave Market (OAV) Weak ...I did not just see the worst burn ever. God, that's probably the only thing I'll remember from this anime beyond the fact that one man is never going to be happy (Murphy's Law seems to be in constant effect around him). So yeah, it started out okay but just fell to pieces in the last two episodes (no bodily functions please).
(The) Slayers (TV) Good I'm not the biggest fan of Slayers (the anime I can stand, the manga is another story). However, I like the series enough to watch through it all, mostly because of the involving storyline and bishies (Zel, and a few others).
Slayers - The Motion Picture Decent Hmm, well, I almost fell asleep through this so it obviously wasn't that impressive, just more of Lina's slay and ask questions first later whilst in the pursuit of food.
(The) Slayers Next (TV) Excellent And enter Xellos, my favorite Slayers character ever (I love his seiyuu; Ishida Akira, take me!), besides his greatness, I liked the way this series ended (that is, the romantic angle between Gourry and Lina, why didn't they remember what happened between them anyway? -_-).
(The) Slayers Try (TV) Decent I watched this only for Xellos, I couldn't have given a flying fuck for the storyline (was happy there were dragons though). Valgaav was a hottie, so he was another reason to watch, especially through the horrible middle episodes of the series; the ending was predictable, but it's Slayers so I should come to expect that by now.
Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle (TV) Excellent I love the manga, so it's no surprise that I'd love this. Seeing Sya interact with the demons as she repeatedly tries to sleep in a myriad of ways will never fail to amuse me. Now, who do I talk to about getting more seasons made? :)
Sonic Soldier Borgman: Last Battle (movie) So-so I probably would have liked this if I knew the backstory but as it was, I really couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters (and the story was predictable as all hell). None of the supposed cyborgs didn't anything machine like! -_-; Oh well, at least ADV gave it to me for free...
Sonic Soldier Borgman: Lover's Rain (movie) Weak Like I gave a fuck about Anice and Ryo's romance. -_-; Jeez, fucking stupid people (I don't see how they're technically cyborgs...shouldn't there be metal, oil and wires instead of blood and flesh?!)
Sorcerer Hunters (TV) Decent I've always thought this series would have worked so much better if it been a drama, as the last part of the anime was wonderful, the rest I could have done without (the same damn formula over and over).
Sorcerer Hunters (OAV) Good The poor narrator, how could they ignore him, the voice of their great deeds? :p I really enjoyed this one, if only for the bi character who hit on everything that moved.
Sorcerer on the Rocks (OAV) So-so What is it with me and slave anime lately? Oh well, this was slightly amusing but despite being a spin-off of Socerer Hunters, there was a severe lack of back story. How could Shibas merge with that one girl, what was Gemin's deal with wanting to bed Shibas...? No one told me! ;_;
Sotsugyō M: Oretachi no Carnival (OAV) So-so I was reminded of Weiss Kreuz several times while watching this (perhaps it was the fact the seiyuu of the main cast sung all of the songs, which I liked a lot...damn!). Anyway, I saw little yaoi potential, and didn't understand the point of animating the story (at least some of the guys were hot and I liked most of the seiyuu).
Soul Hunter (TV) Very good Didn't I comment on this before? Huh...well, anyway, I quite liked this series. Just when you thought it was average, impressive things were done and interest was definitely kept. I wanted more. *sniffs*
(The) SoulTaker (TV) Very good Very different artistic animation and an interesting story define this anime, and I rather enjoyed the unique factor, but if you'd rather see every action animated, I'd look elsewhere.
Speed Grapher (TV) Excellent Very bleak story this was but it seemed to fit with the characters and overall theme so I didn't mind at all. Talk about reaping what you sew, if Kagura hadn't converted those club members into Euphorians, she wouldn't have had so much trouble escaping (and Saiga wouldn't have had to go blind protecting her -_- ). I felt sorry for Saiga the most, he had a power forced upon him and had to use it all up (despite that, I liked the ending, seemed true to Saiga's character). Probably one of the darkest stories I've seen yet (all that sexuality and fetishes)...yes, I know it has flaws (see: inconsistent animation, story holes) but I really liked it and that's all that counts. I wonder what form my deepest dark desire would be if I encountered Kagura?
Spiral (TV) Good Based on the one ep I saw, I can only say it reminds me of 'Detective Conan' way too much, Blade Children mystery aside. --Upon finishing it, I was getting annoyed by the way the main mystery was never solved, the overreliance on Ayumu to solve problems, and how easily the characters got out of life or death situations. However, I think I had the same issues with the manga, so not too surprising my opinion would remain the same. In any case, I'm glad to finally finish it.
Spirited Away (movie) Masterpiece I had the pleasure of seeing this when it was in theaters, and impressed I was, still am whenever I watch it. It's just...perfect (or is that Haku? :p).
Spriggan (movie) Very good I so enjoyed this, mainly because of Jean and Yu, but the fighting was a definite plus. The Noah's Ark angle was interesting and I wish they'd gone a little deeper into it before things climaxed.
Spy×Family (TV) Excellent Love it. The characters and story are just as endearing as in the manga. Can't wait to watch more. <3
Steamboy (movie) Decent I didn't hate this, I just wasn't particularly interested in the story, as it seemed to go around in circles at times. I can't help thinking that if the plot had been a little more definitive, I probably would have liked it better. Scarlet got on my fucking nerves, so damn spoiled with her the-world-revolves-around-me attitude. At least the animation was very pretty, the climax had me staring in wonder at the screen.
Step Sister (OAV) Weak It was okay, a lot of the sex stuff came off as sort of bland yet the ending surprised me though I am very sure that that's not what the father meant by loving each other. Suits me just fine, threesomes rock. If only there hadn't been all that pissing shit, I would've liked it more. Sigh.
Stepmother's Sin (OAV) So-so Yusuke created his own monster, he really should have expected he'd have to deal with it afterwards. Fool, don't break things in you don't expect to keep. Shiina was pretty just a foil so Yusuke could torture his stepmother more so I didn't give a crap what happened to her. I will say this did have a unique animation style at times, which both worked and didn't at the same time.
Strait Jacket (OAV) Decent I really liked the animation, the character designs not so much (they looked good one moment and okay the next). The story was sort of disjointed, I never really understood the message they were going for (sinners should be punished? No matter the reason, killing is bad?). Also, how exactly did they manage to manifest magic to begin with? An interesting anime but a little more thought regarding the execution would have been great. My most immediate thought though is, how could they kill Sanji? You assholes!
Street Fighter Alpha (OAV) Good I was disappointed Ryu didn't give in to his dark side, but I liked the fighting aspect of it (as well as the "evil" Dark Hadou bits). I admit this movie is a guilty pleasure, one that's fun to pull out when my brain doesn't feel like working much.
Street Fighter Alpha: Generations (OAV) Good This was too short, I'm used to having a tad more length than 50 minutes in my fighting anime. But for what it was, I liked it (though I'm not too sure where it falls in the movie/series time line, if it even does). The old man amused the hell out of me (I suspect he molested Ryu judging by some of his comments *ahem*); the origins of the of the Dark Hadou and Akuma's history were a nice plus. The only drawback was the odd character designs (which looked good one moment and horrible the next).
Street Fighter II V (TV) Very good I watched all of this for two reasons: there were yaoi hints (two guys willingly playing about naked in a pool?), and I liked the fights Ken and Ryu got into. ^_^
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie Good I liked this movie, mostly because of the fight Chun Li had in her apartment, the rest was the typical we-must-fight-evil-or-else-the-world-will-end.
Strike the Blood (TV) Very good It reminded me of Flame Of Recca as the main guy acquires powers bit by bit. I rather liked the setting and story, and even if it was a harem anime, it broke up the formula enough for me to enjoy it. The vampire thing helped though. Admittedly, if I were in Kojou's place, I'd be feeding on all my friends, guys and girls alike, to get more familiars. ^^; It's nice the series had various arcs instead of one-shot episodes. Only irritating thing was how quickly blame was placed on Kojou in 'perverted' situations when it's truly not his fault. Other annoying bit was lack of explantation on who it was that kept possessing Kojou's sister and how exactly Kojou got his powers to begin with. Light novels here I come?
Sukeban Deka (OAV) Decent Wow, this was really violent. But I was amused by all the death, "scary gazes", and how fast one can kill armed only with a yo-yo. Fear the yo-yo! :p
Sukisho (TV) Good Hmm, overall I like the show but I sort of enjoyed the filler more than actual storyline (the ending was a tad soap opera-ish). I was sad to see Yoru go bye-bye. ;_; The anime definitely makes more sense than the manga.
Super GALS! (TV) Decent Ran's idea of a solution is always in the form of insults and violence, which is as it should be (and is about the only amusing thing about the show, bishies aside). I don't mind the first season much, but by the start of the second, I was sick of the characters (they all bounce back fucking quickly for teenagers). That, and I couldn't stand Aya (for her stupidity/timidness when it came to romance), Sayo (if I hear 'datchu' one more time, I'm going to snap), and Miyu (who shouldn't have to talk in third person at this point). Sigh, I get the feeling I would have liked this better if I'd taken it a little at a time instead of marathoning it.
Supernatural: The Anime Series (OAV) Excellent For those who don't want to watch through ten seasons, this is an summary of the series (for the first two years at least). True, some characters have been vastly changed (John Winchester is not bald), and some of the changes in story are a bit weird, but I did enjoy seeing the back stories of Jake and Lily. Some of the original episodes were pretty good and funny. My one and only complaint is the fact Sam's powers are pretty straightforward, he gets visions and nothing else. So why the sudden telekinesis and glowing sphere of energy? It doesn't make sense. In all, I'd welcome another season of the anime. ^_^
Sword of the Stranger (movie) Excellent I love historical movies (or at least ones set in the faraway past), so it should come as no surprise I really enjoyed watching this. The fight scenes were very creative and so pretty to watch and the animation was quite good as well. Characters were diverse and really felt like they had a personality of their own (Nanashi in particular), I even liked Kotarou (which is odd since I usually hate kids). I'd definitely buy this if it got released on DVD stateside.
Tactics (TV) Excellent Those sons of a bitches! How dare they lull me into their amusing episodic nature then up the stakes in the finale enough to make me think, "I've gotta fucking read the manga!" Yeah, I really enjoyed watching this anime, especially when it completed; mostly though I liked all the characters (even Muu after a while o.0). Kick-ass all around. ^_^
Tales from Earthsea (movie) Good I appreciated the story's slow pace the first hour, after that I kept looking at my watch to see how much longer it would take for the plot to come in. It seemed like everyone kept wandering around for way too long, doing unimportant things that did not relate to the plot (also no one answered the question about Earthsea's balance becoming worse, the girl transformed into a dragon, the villain defeated and everyone was happy, the end). I enjoyed the animated dragons the best...oh, a tip if you're ever going to visit Earthsea, do not tell anyone your true name, otherwise you'll make little baby dragons everywhere you go. Hmm, doesn't sound so bad...
Tanaka-kun is Always Listless (TV) Excellent Talk about unexpected. I loved the show's dry sardonic sense of humor, that more than anything else made me laugh the hardest. Tanaka himself was amusing as was his friend Ohta, the supporting characters made up the meat of the show (for reactions mostly). Imagine my surprise when a yuri couple was introduced in the third episode (and it's damn sweet)! Tanaka is sort of my spirit animal, in that I want to avoid hardships as much as I can. Wish I had his level of talent for it. In all, a fucking great anime I'm glad to have seen. May I please have a physical release for it and the manga now? ^_^
Tenchi Forever!: The Movie Masterpiece My favorite Tenchi Muyo incarnation, as I really enjoyed the mature story instead of the usual "choose either Ayeka or Ryoko" routine, I also liked Haruna as she seemed a very capable character, very pretty animation for the movie as well.
Tenchi Muyo! (OAV 1/1992) Good Blanked out.
Tenchi Muyo! The Night Before The Carnival (OAV) Good Blanked out.
Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo in Love Excellent Go forth, Tenchi, save yourself before you disappear altogether! I liked the fact they went back and explored Tenchi's parents' relationship, as well as the finale. ^_^
Tenchi The Movie 2 - The Daughter of Darkness Good Yes, Tenchi's "daughter"...I didn't like her much, nor was I really impressed with this movie.
Tenchi Universe (TV) Good Another incarnation of Tenchi, and it's neither better nor worse than the OAV before it. The story takes quite a while to take off, and the group's antics do get old. Despite a space theme and a battle for a throne, nearly everything is reset in the end, which makes the series a bit meaningless. I like to think Ryoko gets Tenchi since she returned to him first. :p
Tenjho Tenge (TV) Good I like shounen anime, don't get wrong but I was actually more interested in seeing the backstory than the present one all the way through (Shin and Maya and so forth hit home with me much faster than the reformed Juken Club). I felt obligated to finish the series, which shouldn't be with anime, so...not one of my favorites.
Tenjho Tenge: Ultimate Fight (OAV) Good Sword fights are pretty, even if they aren't as long as I would like in this case (what can you do though? The manga's still ongoing so they can't provide a conclusion to the whole story yet). Nagi's transformed self is interesting, can't really say much else.
Texhnolyze (TV) Masterpiece I picked this up on a complete whim (the cover art was pretty), and found myself watching the going-ons of a highly unusual world, but in the end, it's quite good anime, just be well aware this series is not for those who haven't embraced their demon within. ;)
They Were 11 (movie) Good I didn't expect much from this, and despite the amusement of that one girl wanting to be a guy, the whole thing was just kind of boring.
This Boy Can Fight Aliens! (OAV) Good For being a short someone wrote, animated, and directed all on their own, it's a surprisingly decent effort. I can't say I didn't wish the animation was smoother or that the story didn't have so many plot holes, but it did stir up my emotions in the end, so kudos. Some of the imagery was really beautiful though the BL subplot could have been dropped for all the good it did.
Those Who Hunt Elves (TV) Very good The premise is crazy, but somehow it works. I find quite a lot funny and the only thing I wonder is why they haven't come across any male elves to strip...what? It's a valid question!
Those Who Hunt Elves 2 (TV) Good Same plot line, different stories, some of which were a bit boring. Ending seemed a bit anticlimatic and I can only assume the series is properly concluded in the manga. I still really enjoyed watching it, I don't need anime to tax my brain all the time and this series was mental popcorn in a way. Good every once in a while. ^_^
Tight-rope (OAV) Good It's fairly formulaic in terms of story, but I enjoyed the main couple and the yazuka angle. Too bad there were only two episodes, I'm curious how things would've progressed.
Time Stranger Kyoko (OAV) So-so Eh, it was okay, Chocola got on my nerves a bit and the story was far too simple (then again, it was only 11 minutes long, it couldn't be that involved). Wonder if the manga was better?
Tokyo Babylon (OAV) Good Before Sumeragi Subaru was a Dragon of Heaven, he was a spiritual investigator (i.e. monk), and on good terms (perhaps more) with Sakurazuka Seishiro, this is but a few cases in his life...
Tokyo Babylon 1999 (live-action movie) Good I have to wonder who decided to use that story and then change it all around so Subaru would know who Seishiro really, sure it adds tension to their relationship but I liked the original story better. Anyway, at least the actors who played the main characters were hot and it was rather amusing seeing a live action version, too bad it wasn't longer.
Tokyo Babylon 2 (OAV) Very good More of the above, with a peek at Seishiro before he followed through on his promise. *chuckles darkly*
Tokyo Ghoul (TV) Masterpiece Much like "Parasyte," a half-breed tries to find his place in the world. I've written about ghouls before so obviously I find them interesting. The series can be quite dark (the last episode to the nth degree), yet funny the next moment. I swear though the universe takes mad delight in shitting on Kaneki as much as it can. Poor guy just can't get a break. I ended up really loving this series in the end and look forward to the next season, even if it's non-canonical.
Tokyo Ghoul √A (TV) Very good Okay, I let a whole day go by after finishing the series because I needed to get my thoughts together. Some of the good things about the anime were the further development of supporting players (members of the CCG, etc), an intense journey for Kaneki as he tries to regain his humanity after falling so hard, the plot advancement of the main story, and some of the animation was so fucking beautiful. Unfortunately, the bad may outweigh the good because the ending is a bit shit (one run-on scene that went on for seven fucking minutes), deaths are not definitive (are Amon/Yoshimura/Shinohara/Hide alive? Just tell me already instead of being vague about it!), and honestly the focus on some of the CCG officers bored me to tears (Juzo and what's-his-face-who was afraid to die most especially). I missed the people in the ghoul community, which I suppose was the point (in that, you got to see the other side of the ongoing conflict), but still it was really annoying. So, yeah, I guess I enjoyed watching it, yet it is deeply flawed in places. I'm not sure if that's because the writer was trying to stuff too much of the source material into twelve episodes or what, but the pacing needed serious work. I'd totally watch another season of the series, if only to see how Kaneki gets out of his predicament in the finale (i.e. how does he end up working at the CCG in "Re"?). I guess that's something at least.
Tokyo Godfathers (movie) Good Not the most exciting story in the world but I did like some parts, the only real complaint I have is all the damn coincidences that occurred during the course of the story (a couple I could believe but that many is fucking ridiculous). I don't know if I'd ever watch it again but once was okay.
(The) Tokyo Project (OAV) So-so A detective case with all the work involved shown, no matter how boring it is. Regardless, I liked it. A good change of pace really. ^_^
Trigun (TV) Excellent One Vash the Stampede flees from those intent on cashing in on his bounty, and his dark past but such things always come back to bite you on the ass eventually. One of my favorite bishies ever, Wolfwood, comes from this series! *waves custom-made plushie firmly*
Trigun: Badlands Rumble (movie) Excellent Ah, I loved the TV series and manga so this movie was great in that I could back to Gunsmoke, and see some of my favorite characters on the screen again. The story could have been a bit better, but I was mostly happy just to see Wolfwood alive again. It has some very funny scenes, and I was left with a good feeling when the credits rolled. Great job!
Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE the Movie: The Princess in the Birdcage Kingdom Good Well, it was a movie. ^^; I just thought the others got involved in the country's main crisis a tad fast, and the bird thing confused more than interested me (perhaps if it had been longer and we got to hear some of the country's history).
Twilight of the Dark Master (OAV) Very good Oh, this was really smutty and violent, thus...I loved it! :p I can't recall much of the story now but it had something to do with twin demons.
Twin Signal (OAV) Decent Bishie robots go at it...or was I just imagining that in my head? :p
(The) Tyrant Falls in Love (OAV) Masterpiece I fucking adore the manga so it's no surprise I loved the anime. It sort of kills me that they only covered the first volume. I'd seriously give up a kidney to have the remainder of the series animated, especially the bits with Isogai. Hey, a girl can dream, right? ^^;
Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend (OAV) Bad Uh...huh. This is supposed to be entertaining? I'll admit the base story itself is interesting but beyond that, it was hard to even fun of and most, or all of the characters freakin' annoyed me. Waste of time.
Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend (movie) Decent I liked the story but the characters just annoyed the fuck out of me. -_-
Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer (movie 2) Excellent I didn't expect much from this, but damned if it didn't provide sometimes beautiful animation, amusing characters and a good story. I'll definitely be looking into the other movies and anime (eventually).
Uzumaki (live-action movie) Weak Pretty much like the manga that made no sense at all. The acting was bad in a lot of places, though I did think some of the effects weren't bad at times.
Vampire Hunter D (OAV) Good This has one of the most amusing deaths I've ever seen, and no matter how often I see it, I never fail to laugh or smile through it, the rest of the movie is okay as it's age is beginning to be rather apparent.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (movie) Masterpiece Beautiful animated movie, with a lovely story and great action throughout, need I say more?
Vampire Knight (TV) Good I don't know why I don't like this one better, it's got a lot of things I usually like: vampires, blood, bishies. Perhaps it's the main character's stupidity, the clear exposition moments some characters slip into or it's just the idea of the whole plot (it's intriguing in it's own right but I don't think the execution was that good at least not in animated form). I'll finish up the second season just to see how the triangle between Kaname (don't like him), Yuuki (grow some brains, girl!), and Zero (who I love) resolves (let's see threesome!).
Vampire Knight Guilty (TV) Good They really tried to follow the manga, but with it unfinished, I pretty much knew the anime wasn't going to have a good ending (I'm really unsatisfied with Yuuki's choice, and the short ass fight with Rido). Regardless, I did enjoy watching it even with all the faults.
Vampire Princess Miyu (OAV) Masterpiece Very creepy horror stories in the Japanese tradition, with a vampire and spiritualist added into the mix, one of the few anime I've watched that freaks me out a little. ^^;
Vampire Princess Miyu (TV) Good A longer incarnation of the OAV series, and while it can be cliche at times, some of the originality of the stories is interesting (though most have a dark slant). The bishie Larva finally has a voice as well. The last half is definitely better than the first though the final enemy/fight is useless in the end. Why do people have to embrace decapitated heads?
Vassalord (OAV) Very good 1. For anyone who hasn't read the manga, I imagine this makes for a confusing watch. It's very fast paced and the characters are given next to no character development other than their respective roles in the story. It was beautifully animated though (go Production IG!). I also thought that the seiyuu cast was perfect. The short basically covered the first manga chapter, and did it well. I guess I'm just a sucker for hot man on man vampire action hence the somewhat high rating. If the teaser at the end is anything to go by, there might be more on the way eventually. I'd devour it happily. ^_^
Vatican Miracle Examiner (TV) So-so This series is a trip, man. Episode 4 was peak B-movie plot madness, and I sort of loved it for that. Unfortunately, the rest of the series isn't that impressive. The leads are boring, the writing is bad, and all the Dutch angles drive me up a wall. I have two episodes left, and I very much doubt the series will be able to redeem itself. - And it didn't. -_-;
Venus Versus Virus (TV) Good It's not the best anime but I did like watching it, flaws and all. There was not one spot of blood anywhere and considering people died/attacked, that was rather annoying. I never really liked Sumire (too whiny), and much of the plot was very predictable. I did like the character Lucia and the whole fragment aspect but that was about it.
Vexille - 2077 Isolation of Japan (movie) So-so While I liked the idea behind Japan's isolation (i.e. the twist), the story and execution were deeply flawed. What was the bad guy's motivation and plan after everyone had turned into machines? What help was America if they didn't achieve jack shit in the end? A better ending would have been Leon being injected with the machine virus and taking it back to the US and no one knowing about it until it was too late. Then again, I'm a dark-minded person...
Video Girl Ai (OAV) Good "I'm in love with Takashi." Most overplayed line ever! The dub sucks (I just can't shake Ai's voice as it was the same voice actor who played Miko in La Blue Girl). It followed the source material damn closely yet the ending was sort of abrupt (maybe because at the time of this OAV, the manga was still ongoing). At least it went out strong instead of ending with yet more soap opera crap (it gets so bad in the manga, love triangles abound!).
(The) Vision of Escaflowne (TV) Excellent One of my favorites, as the story, characters and music are beyond excellent. My main gripes are the anti-climatic showdown with the main villain, and Hitomi's decision to return home (part of me understands it, the other part is screaming at her for her stupidity).
Voices of a Distant Star (OAV) Good I'm sure Shinkai Makoto would be a very interesting person to talk with, because I loved this (sure, it was sad, but it brought up some very good points about life without being overly complicated). Personally though, if I was going to be light-years away from my boyfriend, I'd break up with them before going into space...
Voogie's Angel (OAV) Good Eva with an all female cast, enough said.
Wandaba Style (TV) Good Is it bad when insanity starts making sense? ^^; I like this series, it's frantic as all hell and the way the boy genius comes up with new ideas on how to get to the moon is amusing. ^_^
Weiss Kreuz Verbrechen & Strafe (OAV) Excellent The animation was a step-up from the TV series, and the story was rather good, plus if you ever wanted to see who would win a fight amongst Weiss, you'll find an answer. ^^
Welcome to the Ballroom (TV) Very good One, I wanted more actual dancing. Half of it was still shots followed by audience reactions. Two, the leader of a couple is not the only important part of the ballroom dancing. The follower is just as important because it is literally a team sport. Gender politics aside, I really liked the show, it was much better than I expected. The cast was interesting and the dancing element mostly well-done. The character designs were different and I didn't notice the giraffe necks after a while. Some of the faces pulled by characters were inadvertently hilarious though. I am fully convinced Hyodo is in love with Tatara given how focused Hyodo is on the guy. Let the BL shine through! :p Overall, a good series despite what others may think. Just don't take it too seriously.
When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace (TV) Very good While I feel like the title is pretty much a lie (being there were only three battles in 12 episodes), I did love that for a harem series, WSBBC was full of mature sensible characters that didn't go crazy because of their feelings for Andou, which was damn refreshing. However, the reason behind the group's powers was clumsily handled. They may have well not even have powers since they didn't come into play very often in the series. So many missed comedic chances. Still, it was a nice slice of life anime with something extra to punch up the story (even if it didn't always work). I imagine the light novels explain some things better...like The Fairy War. ^^;
Whisper of the Heart (movie) Excellent Aw, man, I was an emotional wreck during this movie, mainly because Shizuku's situation is so close to mine, and I could totally understand how helpless she felt at times (mostly, the romance bit excluded).
Wicked City (movie) Good If they provide a valid reason for rape, it's all good.
Wicked Lessons (OAV) Good Man, Shuichi must be a fucking god in bed, all the women were willing to become his slaves after he ravished them. I was surprised by the decent back story (the fact that Noelle's brother wasn't doing it just for the pleasure), it's too bad Noelle acted so rashly after Shuichi had had his revenge. The two made a nice pair (for corrupt step siblings :p).
Widow (OAV) So-so Jeez, is every character so focused on sex they can't do much of anything else? Not that I'm complaining considering everyone agrees to the act but is there a story somewhere in this beyond all the evil plotting on the widow's part? Oh well, it was vaguely entertaining, kind of curious where they were intending to go with it (too bad it's only two episodes).
Wild Adapter (OAV) Masterpiece 1-2. I really loved the seiyuu and animation, just amazingly done. The rough bits just accentuated the noir-ish story. This anime made me ridiculously happy, like staring at the screen with tears in my eyes and a silly grin on my face happy. Few things can achieve that. While I do wish more than one arc had been adapted, I like the one they picked (the sixth manga volume essentially). Dark, sweet, and a great representation of the WA universe, as well as the relationship between Tokito and Kubota. I WANT MORE, DAMMIT! Please, please, please. ;_;
A Wind Named Amnesia (movie) Decent "It's the end of the world as we know it..." Ahem, right, onto the comment, I actually didn't mind watching this, just wished they hadn't taken so long to get to the important bits.
(The) Wind Rises (movie) Decent It's beautifully animated, make no mistake about that, but as whimsical as Jiro's dreams were, the story went on way too long (so fucking slow). All the engineering talk bored me to tears and a good half hour could have been cut from the movie with no effect on the plot. I'm also a bit confused on why the police were after Jiro at one point, he hadn't done anything. The romance seemed tacked on, doing nothing to further the story at all. If this really is Miyazaki's last film, he definitely went out on a whimper instead of a bang.
Witch Hunter Robin (TV) Good This series had a very good start, in that, it took it's time building in what it was to be, and you had adequate time to learn about the characters but the series fell to the wayside near the end.
Witchblade (TV) So-so There are redeeming qualities to this series, but man, you have to wade through a lot of crap. A sickeningly perfect daughter, cloned blades (don't ask, it's stupid and never goes anywhere), corporate business, and to top it all off? A Witchblade wielder whose entire identity hinges on being a mother. Barf. She tries once to find out about her past then gives up for no reason. The "limits" of the Witchblade were also annoying since being the original, you'd think it'd be all powerful with no flaws. Nope, the Witchblade wielder dies in the same matter as the pretenders. The two bright spots for me were Takayama's character arc, which was really well done and the second form the Witchblade took was damn pretty. That is all. Stop fucking up good comics, Japan! You're pissing me off. -_-
Wolf Children (movie) Good I've heard all kinds of good things about this movie and it is good, but...some of the plot holes annoy the fuck out of me. How exactly did the father pass away? Do Japanese people really just toss dead animals into the trash compactor like that? Is no one going to question Ame's disappearance? He was only ten years old! I also didn't like that Yuki had to discard her wild side to fit in at school. The mother Hana was just a little too perfect for me. If she'd been humanized a bit more, showing actual frustration at her kids' antics, I would've probably liked her more. The idea of the story was more compelling than the actual execution of it. In all, I'd watch this again, but fast-forward through the boring bits.
Wolf's Rain (TV) Excellent Featuring nummy bishies, and beautiful music, as well as a truly original story, this series is gold. It has it's problems at times though, however I can contently ignore them most of the time. :p
Wolf's Rain (OAV) Excellent The anime reaches a conclusion, and damn if it isn't a sad one. Excellent stuff though, if not emotionally draining...
Wolverine (TV) Decent First off, I loved the character designs, Logan looked damn good. The animation was also excellent (go Madhouse). Unfortunately, those are the only positive things I can say about the anime. It was based off the 1982 issue comic mini series and they dragged it out into 12 half-hour episodes. So much repetition and cliche dialogue. Given Logan is my favorite Marvel character, he really deserved better representation. At least give him something else to do besides save his girl.
Wrath of the Ninja - The Yotoden Movie Worst ever I wanted to burn this after seeing it. I hope it rots in the depths of hell where it belongs. Hphm.
X (movie) Good A different side of what could have happened at the end of things, I rather like the movie overall even if they did try to cram too much into it at once.
X (TV) Masterpiece If you're a CLAMP or shounen ai fan, you'll love this series, I guarantee it, as it has stunning animation, great characters, and an involving story. If you're not open to the first two things, proceed at your risk.
X OAV Good I wouldn't watch this until you've at least seen some episodes of the TV series, otherwise it's a bit spoiler-ish.
xxxHOLiC (TV) Excellent It's so nice to see a series you love animated, and beautifully so but this ended way too early for my tastes (at least do the spider story, dammit, that one was the best). Sigh, regardless, beyond a few additions here and there, a really good anime overall (especially one where the manga is still ongoing).
xxxHOLiC the Movie: A Midsummer Night's Dream Masterpiece Before I say anything else, I love this, down to every little animated door and collection room, so I have nothing but praise for this. Excellent story, animation, and each of the characters were played out right (no complaints, none at all).
xxxHOLiC: Kei (TV) Masterpiece Fucking awesome, they adapted all those stories and hardly changed a thing. Color me beyond happy and satisfied. Once again, I really love this series and seeing a sequel to it covering my favorites stories is great. Hopefully there will be more anime once the manga progresses further...
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV) Very good Some really creepy stuff in this, which was a nice surprise given I expected nothing out of five minute shorts. It's never in your face scary, being more subtle than anything else, but damn if it didn't send a shiver down my spine at times. Episode 3, 8, and 11 were the most effective for me. ^^; I love the art style, it's quite distinctive.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 2/2014) Good 5 and 8 were the creepiest episodes, the rest were okay. Bit hard to pass judgement on the shorts given they're merely bits of folklore. I still like them anyway. ^^
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 3/2016) Good 8, 10, and 13 were my favorites. Some of the simpler character designs weren't to my liking, but they were only used in a few episodes.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 4/2017) Decent Not a fan of the added live action shots in the shorts, sort of breaks the immersion instantly for me. The increased narration is also a bit irritating. Just show me rather than tell me.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 5) Good Decent. Only one creepy story so far though. Eh, the rest of the stories were pretty predictable (and the animation cheap looking at times). I'm hoping the next season is better.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 6/2018) Good I loved the one about the swamp offering, so evil (so good). >:) The rest of it was okay, a few stupid eps here and there, but nothing too boring.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 7/2019) Good Hmm, some of the animation styles weren't to my taste. Nor were a few stories, but most of them were amusing at the very least.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories (TV 8/2021) Very good The animation style is so pretty. Stories kind of vary, but there were some good ones in the mix.
Yarichin Bitch-bu (OAV) Weak Well, this was...something. It's definitely the crassest BL story I've seen thus far, which I don't think really worked in its favor. The sparkling crotches and buttholes were off-putting, to say nothing of the shallow characters. I have absolutely no interest in seeing if the manga is better or not. -_-
Yes ka No ka Hanbun ka (movie) Very good I was really enjoying this until they slept together. The sex was just really awkward, as Kunieda was protesting nearly the whole time. Also, not a fan of saying it hurts and not pushing the one causing the pain away. Respect people's boundaries already. -_-; If I ignore that scene, the fact they were complete opposites was refreshing and rather amusing. In all, pretty good, just had some consent issues that grinded on my last nerve.
You're Under Arrest Specials Very good These were so amusing to watch (ordinary citizens getting tortured as they were). ^_^
You're Under Arrest: The Motion Picture So-so Hmm, I wouldn't say I particularly enjoyed this but it was better than some of the other crap I've watched...
your name. (movie) Excellent Really damn pretty, like ridiculously so. After hearing so much hype about it, I don't know if the movie deserved it. The story, such as it was, bugged me a few times with its oh so convenient amnesia of the main characters. They got together in the end, but damn did it take a long time. You'd think they would have remembered switching bodies with someone of the opposite gender. That kind of thing would leave an indelible mark in my memory. So, yeah, a nice heartwarming movie, yet not perfect by any means. Also, as a girl, I would've experimented with Taki's dick a lot more. :p
Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie (movie 1/1993) Good Short, and meaningless in my opinion.
Yugo the Negotiator (TV) Good I think Yugo walks around with a sign on his back saying 'please torture me.' Maybe the manga's different, but the guy suffers through each assignment he takes on, and I have to wonder if it's a personality flaw of his to take on the most dangerous difficult situations he can. I mean, I enjoyed watching him pull a win out of his ass in different settings. It's clear a lot of work went into making the anime as close to real as it could get. Different fare but enjoyable, if a tad taxing.
Yumedamaya Kidan (special) So-so It was okay, neither impressive nor disappointing. Really, it was just something to watch. I have to say I was disgusted with that little animal who poops dreams. That's just sickening and insulting to dreams themselves. I guess I really didn't understand the point of the story (appreciating what you have maybe?).
Yuri!!! on Ice (TV) Masterpiece I. Love. This. <3 As usual, though I don't care for it in real life, figure skating is fascinating in anime form. The BL helped a lot, but honestly, the show was so fucking fun to watch and damn well written. It was an absolutely joyful series and made no bones about it. I need more YOI in my life, the sequel can't come soon enough in my opinion. ^_^
Zaion: I Wish You Were Here (ONA) So-so Pretty animation (then again, it's GONZO so that's to be expected). The story was okay, not too impressionable really, but in all it wasn't that horrible. I just wish Sanji (i.e. Hirata Hiroaki) hadn't been turned into a monster.
Zetsuai 1989 (OAV) Very good "I love you, so much so that if you don't have a relationship with me, I'm going to kill you" ...That pretty sums the OAV up.
Zombie-Loan (TV) Good A fairly good adaptation that was entertaining, I especially enjoyed the animation, it was bright, popped, and the fighting effects were well done. Sort of wish they'd gone into more detail about Shito and Shiba yet I know the manga was still ongoing at the time the anime was made so it was impossible. The music, that opening was just so out of place...
