I'm all for World Masterpiece Theater revivals.

This came out of nowhere! Very happy about though. Just hope it'll be in good hands. No chance it'll match the brilliance of the 1979 anime, but I'm super biased towards that one.

Pink haired Gilbert isn't a choice I would've made, but okay.

Even though this is well worn ground, it's cool to see a new general audience adaptation of vintage western literature. Hopefully this does well enough to provoke NHK into making their own WMT.

A very surprising announcement. I really like that old show and will surely watch this new one. Who knows, if this show is a success, maybe we will get some World Masterpiece Theatre Blu Rays for the original and Heidi. Discotek, are you listening?

What?! Well this came out of nowhere! I definitely plan on watching it, even though I doubt it'll be as good as the 1979 anime.

Marilla - Eiko Yamada
Mathew - Kazuhiko Inoue

I could see it happen.

Yeah Discotek are you listening? Hell, let's get AnimEigo on this train as well! Gkids would be nice too!

This came out of nowhere and I could not be any happier! (well, maybe a little...)

That's awesome! I love Anne!

Also looks like they're going to adapt all the novels judging by the plot description, so that's cool.

I was thinking the very same thing -- I would absolutely love to watch the original WMT adaptation before this one. My wallet is open...Discotek, Animeigo!

I would love it if Discotek or even GKIDS can pick up several World Masterpiece Theater anime from Nippon Animation given that Isao Takaharta directed several WMT titles like Heidi, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, & Anne of Green Gables. Given that GKIDS has already licensed and released Future Boy Conan on Blu-Ray in the US, it's very likely they could pick up those 3 WMT titles, then again it's possible Discotek could pick up those 3 titles too.

But I hope those Isao Takahata-directed titles can be pick up for the US market in the near future given the announcement of this new Anne of Green Gables anime.

The synopsis suggests that the later Anne Shirley novels will be adapted. They were adapted into manga and live-action with widely varied results.

I know one of the Kevin Sullivan sequels is universally reviled due to a lot of changes that actually go against established continuity. I haven't read the manga adaptations of the sequel novels, so I don't know how accurate they are, especially since they're shorter than the actual Anne manga.

I'm looking forward to watching this remake since the 1979 version only adapted one of the books. I would also like to see the second part of Little Women animated since Nippon only animated the first part of the book.
