is it okay to do a character from a video game that wasn't made into anime?
eg. Shenmue.

people cosplay as Invader Zim, generic catgirls, various FF characters, their own unique creations... AX has had a few star wars cosplayers in years past..
pretty much anything goes, in terms of cosplaying.
(of course, i suspect Disney characters would be less acceptable to some uber-tempermental fans...)

okay thanks. I'm going to Otakon as my first con and my friend wants to do Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue and I didn't want to get beat up or anything.

nah, it won't matter at all. last year's otakon had a Silent Bob, "Boxatron," a ninja turtle or two, Cobra Commander and maybe Destro, and DDR Jesus.

Well, AX has rules about Disney cosplay. But their location is so close to Disney that they don't want to run into problems.
But you will probably find Disney cosplay at other cons this year.

Dude, no way. Video game cosplay isn't frowned upon in the slightest. I mean, if people can dress up as Ninja Turtles, and actually enter the cosplay contest....
And Zac, this is for you.

That would be Buddy Jesus from Dogma. I don't know what a DDR Jesus would look like....but that's definitely Buddy Jesus.

His name's Buddy Christ, but whatever; he's still cool. You could probably pull off Disney cosplay if you said it was from Kingdom Hearts.
