I mean, the show ends up doing this on its own, so it's not just the dub.

My personal take has always been that Kumiko fell in love with a straight girl, and then slowly fell out of love. |

To me from the very beginning the show was never about "yuri" it just people wanted to be one.
With that being said I dont mind seeing Kyoto animation make original yuri romance show one day. |

I always thought the main point of the show was to let people unfamiliar with wind bands know what a euphonium is.
At least KyoAni would not resort to tricks such as angles that do not show faces during dialog so as to save on animation time and expense. |

Cannonically Kumiko end up with wet paper, so they had to constantly go ''Ahah the're just friend for real''. W/e I guess that's just kyoani and their deliberate imperfection. . |
