| Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero (TV) | Good | Art was overall well done with nice character design and backgrounds, good action/fight scenes, and not too much obvious CGI used. (which was mostly just for typical magic circles). However, the censoring was distracting due to being very poorly done with no sense of artistry (scrolling banners and blocking out more than needed). In fact, the censoring was so bad I had to give up watching this streaming and wait until it was available for rent on DVD. Character development of the main characters was so-so (much more for the male protagonist and not much for the female protagonist) and of sub-characters really weak. None of the characters stood out to be particularly likable and the main female protagonist screamed for more depth and backstory. Several of the antagonists were actually portrayed somewhat more believably than the protagonists but still all of them lacked depth. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly weakly developed and the series ending was abrupt with poor resolution. The plot(s) for episodes that actually dealt more with story and less with fan-service were not all that bad though, they just could have been developed much better. Several episodes had a lot of fan-service and some that had no point in the story other than fan-service itself (such as a beach/swimsuit episode). Overall the fan-service was not original or integrated and animated well enough to be interesting and included typical ridiculous camera angles for panty shots and entirely unrealistic breast sizes and movements. Music wasn't memorable. |

| Akame ga KILL! I don't recall any scenes that had obvious censoring or might have even needed it. Character development of the main, and even secondary, characters (both protagonists and antagonists) was also very well done considering how many characters this series had - some backstory was used (without being boring info-dumps) from time to time but mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics. The majority of the protagonists were likable and so were some of the antagonists. Those that we were to despise were easily despicable. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. However, as well done as it was, the series ending didn't really provide complete resolution. This is a tragedy and it "feels" like it. There is nothing in this series I would really call fan-service. Music wasn't memorable. |

| Bakemonogatari (TV) | Very good | Art was overall very well done with nice character designs and backgrounds. In fact, the background art really stands out. The animation style is unique (at least to the various ___monogatari series) and can be disconcerting in its rapid flashing of screens of mostly text too fast to always really read it all. I don't recall anything that obviously censored or needing it. Character development of the main characters was a big part of the story itself and due to the depth of development characters are all mostly unlikable but still somehow remain a bit likable, at least sometimes. The main story arc is really a collection of different story arcs that are usually chronologically ordered. The stories themselves can slow, convoluted and bizarre but mostly somehow enjoyable in small doses even when the subject matter gets a bit offensive. There are clear references to story that came before and sometimes there are info-dumps that can feel like it is dragging out. There is not a definitive ending in the main story arc or the stories that make up the main story arc - clearly this series is meant to go on. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development of some of the main characters was also well done, mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics but occasional backstory when appropriate. However, other main characters were underdeveloped. Not enough of the main characters that were developed, were really all that interesting or likable so story arcs and subplots revolving around the less interesting characters were themselves less interesting. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were developed well enough but really lacked something to bring that much interest or curiosity about what would happen next and for the most part was quite predictable. The series ending was sufficient. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development of the main characters was also very well done, mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others. The characters were, for the most part, strong and likable enough. Characters stayed within their character really well. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly very well developed and not always predictable and almost always interesting and captivating and ultimately the greatest strength of this series. This was a series that had be laughing and interested and I wanted to keep watching one episode after the other. No fan-service at all. The series ending was sufficient but somehow kind of let me down a bit - not sure exactly what should have been different but rest of the series was mostly really strong and I had it expected/wanted it to end on a stronger note than it did. The opening song kind of grew on me. |

However, the censoring was distracting due to being poorly done with a lack of artistry to make the censorship look like anything other than censoring. Character development of the main characters was mixed. The male protagonist was developed well enough and was managed to stay within character most of the time and not be the weak push-over that most harem male characters are and thus managed to mostly be likable. The female protagonists were mostly only weakly developed and mostly not all that likable due to their over-the-top personality flaws and violence toward the male protagonist without just cause - the typical harem antics that have been done (and poorly) to death. The various antagonists were all weakly developed and not portrayed villainous enough. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly weakly developed and the series ending felt rushed with insufficient resolution to the main story arc. Too much time was spent on not funny harem antics such as falling and landing in inappropriate and unlikely ways, walking in on girls in various states of undress, and waking up with the naked girl in the bed, etc. Actual interesting story was there, but not as much as it could it have been had the stories and characters been given some depth. It contains some fan-service, mostly panty and bra shots and some ridiculous breast size and movements as well and for the most part none of it was executed well enough to contribute anything to story. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development of the main characters was also very well done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others. All the main characters came across as believable and for the most part, likable and interesting. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable but slow and predictable enough to be all that captivating. There were some scenes that were touching and many more that were boring but the art was always nice to look at. No fan-service at all. Both the opening and closing songs were catchy and enjoyable. |

| Buso Renkin (TV) | Good | The art was overall all okay. The character designs were fine enough but the backgrounds had a tendency toward mediocre. Fight/action scenes had okay moments but more often than not had far too many cuts and felt choppy and under-animated. There was much more panning over still scene than I like, especially when many of those stills were not very interestingly done. There was a fair amount of CGI used in battles for various weapon effects and it all worked in well enough without looking too out of place. There was only the smallest amount of censoring in once episode and it was kept short and an attempt was made to make it not look like censoring. Character development was so-so. There was too much info-dumping and too much over-acting and not very good writing of character interactions in any believable way for the most part. The main male character was much to long-winded in his righteous declarations he almost never made good on, even though his ethics and values were likable enough. The main female character was never given suitable backstory to fully explain her existence and the bits and pieces were scattered and left to not contribute much of anything to the story. The rest of the 'good' guys were a mix of unlikable and lame with none of them really being developed and the 'bad' guys were bad enough and dislikable enough but it didn't really come across through any great writing, the lines the characters were given were often not all that good, believable, humorous, or interesting. The story had a lot of interesting potential but wasn't really written well and only weakly developed. There was much too much pointless side-stories that were not developed well or integrated well into the main story plot. The main story arc was slow to get going and had potential to be much more interesting than it was, the weak writing hurt it. There was a significant amount of time spent on re-capping each episode, way too much. And at the end of each episode after the credits there was yet another re-cap info-dump for several minutes that was pointless. Each episode had only about 15 minutes of actual 'new' story. The series ending was satisfactory in wrapping up any details for which any curiosity was still remaining but it took a long time coming, too much was drawn out that by the time things got moving, the weaknesses fueled a strong desire that the story would just end already. There was no fan-service. Music was not memorable. |

| Celestial Method (TV) | Excellent | Art was overall very well done with nice character designs and backgrounds, and not too much obvious CGI used (mostly on the spaceship). There wasn't any noticeable (or need for it) censoring. Character development of the main characters was also very well done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others but occasionally supplemented with some backstory. Most of the characters are immediately likable and others grow on you. All of the characters stay within their characters even when we learn more about them as the series progresses. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. This series tried really hard to get emotional reactions from the slice-of-life theme/storyline and goes a bit over-the-top with it but it works considering the age of the characters. In the end it all works out but it has rough spots getting there and sometimes those feel a little slow and drawn out but overall the pacing was good. The ending felt like it could be the ending (we had sufficient resolution) but it also felt like it could be the beginning of a new story arc. The was not bad but wasn't particularly memorable either. |

Panning over still frames was minimal and the animation was fluid. I don't recall any noticeable (or need for it) censoring. Character development of the main characters was also very well done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others. Info-dumping was mostly avoided. The primary male protagonist was mostly very true to his nature although in a couple occasionally they would have him suddenly weaker and/or dumber than he was normally which always came across as a story flaw. He was for the most part a likable character due mostly to his sense of right and wrong and trueness to his convictions to do the right thing even at great risk to himself. It was unfortunate that they also made him academically and self-developmentally unmotivated - when this came up in stories it came across as less believable since a character who always tried to do the right thing to help others would probably also do his best to better himself so that could better help others. The primary female protagonists were also likable for the most part although the violence toward the main male character due to hunger or jealousy got old fast and made the character "Index" annoying. Many of the lesser characters could have been developed more, we were given little to no backstory or reason to like or dislike many of them. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly very well developed and not always predictable and almost always interesting and captivating and ultimately the greatest strength of this series. This was a series I wanted to keep watching one episode after the other - even when character traits/failures annoyed me. There is nothing in this series I would really call fan-service. There were a few panty shots here and there that were well incorporated into the action of the scene and made sense. There was some implied nudity when some magic garments were "cancelled out" but it was tame and fit in well with the story. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development of the main characters was also very well done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others. Info-dumping was mostly avoided. The primary female protagonist, "Mikota Mikasa", always remained true to character and was likable and believable. The secondary female protagonist, Mikota's roommate "Kuroko Shirai", was also true to character but her constant sexual advances toward her roommate and unjustified jealousy and violence toward the male protagonist became annoying. The male protagonist was mostly very true to his nature although when he wasn't it always came across as a story flaw. He was for the most part a likable character due mostly to his sense of right and wrong and trueness to his convictions to do the right thing even at great risk to himself. The primary male antagonist was done very well, easily detestable and even when he suffered defeat and showed signs of changing it was difficult to believe it sincere due to how vile he was previously portrayed to be. Some of the lesser characters could have been developed more, we were given little to no backstory or reason to like or dislike them. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly very well developed and not always predictable and almost always interesting and captivating and ultimately the greatest strength of this series. This was a series I wanted to keep watching one episode after the other - even when character traits/failures annoyed me. There was not too much in this series I would really call fan-service. There were a few panty shots here and there as one lesser character had the trait of flipping up the skirt of one of her friends but it was incorporated and insignificant enough to not be bothersome. Kuroko's infatuation with Mikoto resulted in some lingerie shots and breast grabbing (which got old) and there was a swimsuit episode that really wasn't fitting in the main story arc. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development of the main characters (protagonists and antagonists) was also very well done considering how many characters this series had - some backstory was used from time to time but mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and not much in the way of info-dumping. Characters all remained true to themselves for the most part. The protagonists were for the most part likable, the brother-love complex of one of the female protagonists was fortunately not over-done. Antagonists were villainous enough to be dislikable without the series itself becoming ugly. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly very well developed and not always predictable and almost always interesting and captivating and ultimately the greatest strength of this series. This was a series that I was interested in watching more than one episode back to back. There is nothing in this series I would really call fan-service. Music wasn't memorable. |

| Clannad (TV) | Excellent | Art was overall well done with nice character designs and backgrounds, okay action scenes, and not too much obvious CGI used (mostly for a robot looking thing that rarely appeared). Sometimes there was quite a bit of panning over still frames but not so frequently and so much as to be too annoying and fortunately not much time spent on stills were nothing is 'happening'. There wasn't any noticeable (or need for it) censoring. Character development of the main characters was slow and done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others and a little telling of past history and on rarely were flashbacks used. Unfortunately, it character development never reached the point where you felt you knew the characters well even though you could predict how they were going to react in the situations that were presented and in that sense you can say that characters more or less stayed within character. All of the main characters were for the most part likable and believable even though some of them had some behavioral flaws, it was made clear that they were good people and didn't mean harm. The main characters was definitely a strength of this series. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. The general pacing of the entire series was fairly slow and that worked for the most part because that is often how life really is yet at the same time it can be boring. Unfortunately, there was also a fair amount of plodding along were it didn't feel like the story was going anywhere and sometimes the subplots were so unrelated to the main arc as to feel a bit like filler on occasion. There was one story arc that dragged on and on that involved a girl in coma that never felt resolved and kept coming back up again in ways that just kept pointing out it was unresolved and that is slow paced long going particular arc wasn't being adequately put to rest. But at the same time, it was the main story arc that followed the development of friendships/relationships between the main characters that made this series finally work and in end I just kept watching episodes back to back as the story became more interesting. There were two additional episodes to the series, the first of which was really what helped to gracefully end the series even thought there remained a couple loose ends. The second was an alternative ending that was fail in that most of the main characters that had been in the entire series didn't have roles in this episode making this alternative ending really implausible (as the main male protagonist does act somewhat out of his defined character and the main female protagonists are missing) even though it wasn't objectionable as there was nothing really dislikable about the secondary female protagonist. No fan-service at all. The closing theme was catchy but I wouldn't want to listen to it repeatedly. |
| Clannad After Story (TV) | Excellent | A continuation of the previous season with no noticed change in artwork quality. The writing is also very well done but the pacing has become slower on the majority of episodes which when combined with the depressing main story arc really wasn't good. The storyline became focused on tragedy and as such was really heavy and not as enjoyable or entertaining as the previous season. The ending came out of the blue and wasn't expected as there was no foreshadowing at all and after all the tragedy of the previous most dozen or so episodes it really was a weird way to end it but I suppose that resolution was there for all the main conflicts of this season if though we have ignored for the most part the majority of characters from the first season except Tomoyo, Nagisa and her parents. There are three extra episodes, the first showed the delinquents at their worst and wasn't entertaining at all as it had the feel that these characters we have followed as they grew were regressing instead. The second was an alternative ending with Tomoyo ending up with one of the original girls and any interaction with Nagisa was completely absent from this episode and like the similar alternative ending of the first season this just didn't work for me at all as it simply isn't the story I followed for 20+ episodes and the characters were not behaving as their characters have been defined. The final extra episode resumes the story of the season and brings a bit more resolution to some of the bizarreness of the plot twists near the end of the season series. However, this episode also was mostly just a summary/recap of the season with almost zero original animation for it. All in all this season felt a bit of a minor step down from last season in terms of enjoyment derived from it. |

Characters were so-so on the likability - too much unwarranted violence toward the main male protagonist, "Kazama Kenji", as is typical of harem comedies. Kazama's was not always portrayed true to character (supposedly a delinquent of some notoriety) and often was annoying in his tolerance and weakness against the female protagonists violence toward him. The female protagonists all stayed within character for the most part. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were all pretty simple and predicable but the comedy was written well - being less in stupid hijinks and more in genuinely humorous character interactions and situational comedy. I found it interesting enough to want to see episodes back to back. There were frequently unbelievable and ridiculous but works in this case since the series was kept short before the jokes got too old. There really wasn't anything that felt like it needed to be resolved more than it was for the series ending. There was not a lot in this series I would really call fan-service except panty shots every now and then. There was some really pointless breast grabbing and unfortunate and unrealistic situations typical of harem comedies that mostly could have been done without. The opening song was catchy. |

Character development was weak relying only on character interactions but not staying true to the personalities being developed. The majority of the characters were thus inconsistent and unbelievable which resulted in uninteresting characters even though there was initially some potential. The characters were a mix of likable and unlikable but were so inconsistent they fell flat, even the antagonists were undermined by the wishy-washy writing. The main story arc started with potential that ended up going in too many directions at once and suffering from that as no direction was adequately developed and every time I thought that they were going to get it together and start tying all the sub-plot together into the main story arc I was disappointed that they kept building and destroying the potential and never really capitalizing on it. This was a case where "more is less". The series itself gave way too much to writing scenes to provide fan-service instead of writing scenes that would develop the characters or the plot(s). Even the fan-service was not really done that well with the censoring being so poorly done the fan-serivce also mostly failed. There was too much left unexplained when the series ended leaving large holes in the story even though the main conflict was adequately resolved and another season wouldn't help. Fan-serivce was significant with a lot of lingerie shots, lost clothing and the nudity that results. Other than the invisible girl that needed to take off her clothes to be invisible, almost none of the fan-service really had any point or contributed anything to the story itself. Music was not memorable. |

However, sometimes the artwork, especially the backgrounds had an overly low-quality feel to them. There was a significant amount of panning over stills that also tended to make it feel like lower quality production. Action scenes were always very short and kind of choppy feeling. There wasn't any noticeable (or need for it) censoring. Character development of the main characters was so-so. The story really was about a ghost and most of the development focused on her which was too bad since the other three main characters had a lot of screen time as well, and should have been developed more. The main characters were more likable than not but they could have been more likable if they had been developed better. The development of the ghost character was by way of a mix of interactions with others and episodes where aspects of her past were uncovered, it was a good way to give her backstory and worked well to develop her character, albeit slowly. The story started out kind of questionable, looking like it was going to be harem with a weak plot and typical dumb harem hijinks and fan-service. Fortunately, this is not how it went but it did take nearly half the season to really get moving in an interesting way. The main story arc itself was interesting eventually the writing became better when the focus became on the ghost story and not the love polygon that detracts from so many anime and its this story that ultimately makes the series worth watching. It is far from a masterpiece, it had a lot of potential that was never brought out, but it became entertaining enough to keep watching it. There was some fan-service, mostly in the beginning, with lingerie and swimsuit shots that were mostly really pointless to the overall story but were not excessive (though in the first episode I was wondering if it was going to be that kind of a series). The story had some twists in it that made for some unpredicted turns and the ending caught me off guard. The ending could go either way, it could simply end as it did since we had resolution for all the issues but at the same time it could also go into a sequel with a new main story arc. The music was mostly unmemorable but in the last episode the music toward the ending caught my attention. |

Character development of the main characters was also very well done largely through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others but there was also plenty of flashbacks (also done well) that helped to explain what was happening in the present with the character(s) (and story). Protagonists were likable (for the most part, their was some over-the-top niceness and unwarranted jealousy that was annoying) and antagonists were all suitably villainous and unlikable. "Lucy" who we were not exactly sure just what what she was and were she stood was both likable and unlikeable both which was certainly intended with her split personality. All the characters generally stayed within their characters, there were a lot of minor characters that were only weakly developed and for those that actually had a significant influence in events even though their screen-time was small it would have been nice for greater development. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. There were many twists an turns that helped keep up interest when the subject matter was ugly. In fact, this was a story that I enjoyed watching multiple episodes back to back simply because of the uniqueness and interestingness of the main story arc. There was nudity but for the most part it all made sense in the story and didn't come across as fan-service. The story ending was surprising and not everything was entirely resolved but the conclusion was satisfactory enough that I don't feel there needs to be a sequel. The opening song was quite memorable. |

The action/fighting scenes are smooth and there are plenty of them and it not just a bunch of stills or tricks to hide the characters that are fighting. The artwork and animation really stand out in this really long running series as above the norm. However, there is still a lot of panning over still frames and unfortunately, obviously reused animation scenes that contribute to prevent this series from being a masterpiece. There is also way to much retelling what already happened it often feels like every episode has one quarter of its time devoted to recapping, and that gets really really boring fast. There is plenty of scantily clad bodies and over-sized breasts but it is all drawn well and nothing needs to be, or feels, censored. Character development of the main characters (protagonists and antagonists) was also very well done considering how many characters this series has - some backstory was used from time to time but mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics but also sometimes episodes are devoted to the story of one or more characters giving us more insight into their past that made them who they are. There is a big flaw though in that most of the characters are routinely out of character and are abnormally more or less powerful previously shown just for a particular battle or even an story arc. Then, all of a sudden they might get smart and behave like we've learned previously they can. This is a big problem both with the protagonists and the antagonists were they suddenly have different fighting power then we had seen before and really comes across as a fail and when it happens it gets really boring really fast. Other than suddenly becoming incredibly stupid, most of the main protagonists are likable and create interest in themselves - as a viewer I want them to win and prevail. Some of them, Lucy, for example can get really annoying though when they write her as stupid and powerless but at this point I just curse the writer. The story is the best and worst aspect of the series. Because there are constant battles, the heroes need to continually win but they attempt to create interest by making them lost a lot first and then come from behind to win. There usually are a lot of flaws in the writing of these epic battles were most of the Fairy Tail guild just stands around with their jaw dropped while one character does everything. Many of the guild regulars come across most of the time as pretty incompetent but then on the rare occasion they are given some role and they all of a sudden have abilities we never knew them to have and then it goes back to the way it was with the characters behaving incompetently. The stories themselves though are usually pretty well thought out and interesting but they can also feel really drawn out and especially so because of all the recapping all the time. There is what is technically fan-service written into this series, some in probably every episode of some type or other but it is all done really well, so much so that it doesn't have the excessive fan-service feel. There is occasionally some implied nudity, there are plenty of skimpy outfits, there are sometimes panty shots, and there are some of the women whose breasts are a little larger than is realistic but at least not to the point of ridiculousness. The series ending was just another season ending with the story arc in progress unresolved making it clear there was going to be a sequel series. The music for the series changes frequently and some is memorable and some isn't. |

Also, like them, there is an extensive amount of CGI used and not just in all the typical magic, fortunately though they did a really good job with the CGI and it isn't too overbearing and obnoxious. The panning over stills was not too extreme and even though there were too many cuts in the action scenes they still flowed well. There was some white blurring censoring that worked fine in a steamy shower or bath but was pretty tacky when used elsewhere, really with all the effort they put into the artwork it would have been nice if they made the censoring fit in with the scene and not look like obvious censoring. Character development was so-so and entirely through character interactions. There really could have been some backstory brought in during introductions in the first episodes were the young girls are being unbelievably coerced into finding the cards that is the main dilemma of the main story arc. The characters are mostly not all that likable at all. The main two characters are children who are both too childish and yet too unbelievable in their behaviors. There are two older girls who also have substantial roles and they are ridiculously immature and petty. Certainly a lot of these behavioral flaws are supposed to be comical but they mostly fall flat. All in all I can't say that any of the main characters really stayed in character or not since their characters were so inconsistent. This series breaks story from the original 'Fate' series' and that is too bad. However, if that is ignored and this is thought of as its own story to stand on its own then it that problem is solved. However, then there should probably have been some backstory to explain little things like the 'Heroes' because the world building is weak. The main story arc was only weakly explained, the reasons why such incompetent girls were put to task of finding these dangerous and important cards is ignored and how elementary girls are then chosen by the rebellious magical sticks is ludicrous and ignored. The minor story arcs worked fine with fitting in with the overall arc but nothing was every really developed that well which is too bad because there was actually some potential in the story. I really wouldn't call any of the very minor implied nudity fan-service and other than a scene or two I wouldn't say it contributed to the story at all. The music was not memorable. |

I've had to fast forward over the stupidity a couple times now that is the bulk of this season's minor plots to get back the main story arc which itself isn't entirely bad. It took half the season, but some interesting backstory was finally revealed but unfortunately only weakly developed. The ending didn't resolve the majority of conflicts introduced this season so there is a clear path/need for another season even though the writing/story quality doesn't really merit it. Over-all this is a step down from last season. |

For the most part the CGI was done very very so that it blended in pretty good. There wasn't any noticeable (or need for it) censoring that I recall. Character development was a through a mix of character interactions and backstory flashbacks but was sufficient to have a general idea about each of the main characters. However, it was not sufficient to develop much depth to anyone's character. None of the characters were particularly likable and the main characters often displayed more dislikable traits then anything remotely empathizable with. Furthermore, the main character was incredibly dumb for supposedly being very smart and much of his behavior was contradictory making him to be quite unbelievable. The antagonists were all plenty dislikable. For the most part, the other characters staid within their roles but when they did depart from their characteristic behavior it was typically extreme and lacking of sense, reason or development in the story. The main story arc was fascinating and the directing was done very well and made up for incongruencies in the writing. That said, other than flaws with character behavior the wring was pretty well done in that what happened in the story had my interest even though I didn't care much for any of the characters and what would happen necessarily to them. The minor story arcs seemed to fit well enough in with the main story arc although at times it felt there was a lack of depth to the development. The ending of the series was enough to wrap up the main conflict and answer some of the largest lingering questions but didn't really address holes all the holes in the story. It did not have any fan-service. The music was not memorable. |

We never really got to know all of the characters really well as there is a clear intention to keep an air of mystery around them. main characters didn't act out of character and were so-so as far as likability goes because there remained enough mystery to cast doubts on their true intentions. Not all of the female behavior was believable, especially when it came to (nearly) all of them falling for the same guy (typical harem) and some (typical over-the-top) unrealistic girl-girl lust. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. In fact, there were enough twists that kept things interesting even when the subject matter kept getting uglier and uglier. Many of the scenarios of the story were pretty unrealistic in their lack of probability but it is fiction and keeping that in mind it all worked as there weren't any major story flaws. There was not a lot this series that I recall that I would really call fan-service except perhaps some occasional panty shots but even those were mostly well worked into the story and weren't annoying. The series ending seemed at first that it was going to be sufficient and then the closing scene suggested that something major was about to happen and then - bang! - over with no resolution to closing scene. It was clearly setup for a sequel and unfortunately done so in a tackless, obnoxious way. Music wasn't memorable. |

The character development was a mix of character interactions, backstory with flashbacks, and even some narration and all-in-all it was done well enough even though we didn't develop all the characters to the depth that should have been developed. Characters stayed within their roles. The protagonists were for the most part likable although there was some unlikable traits sometimes as well. The antagonists were sufficiently dislikable. In both cases, the main characters were kept interesting. The main story arc had a lot of interest built up around it that was never fully developed. There were multiple minor story arcs that never contributed to the main story and didn't seem to have any purpose other than to fill episodes. The pacing started out very well but for the last several episodes become erratic. The story should have been developed further along the lines that it started out but the final several episodes of the series felt rushed and thrown together to try and wrap-up what should have been a longer story and if fact, deviated greatly from the original manga creating events that never happened and ignoring many events that did. Many details of the early development were never resolved and the ending felt out of place. However, the story prior to the last three episodes and ignoring a few pointless sub-stories was interesting and engaging. The humor worked for the most part and I was able to watch many episodes back-to-back. The ending, unfortunately, was something of a let down. There was no fan-service. Music was not memorable. |

It was set up for anohter sequel but the story is now run-of-mill revenge and boring and written poorly. The animation quality seriously suffered as it progress up to episode 10 which was horrid in so many shots where the character were just drawn wrong. A big delay before episodes 11 and 12 and they did a lot to fix the animation but the story was already a transparent, seen it all before, mess. |

Each episode was a different short story and too short for much development and not written interestingly at all when there is so much potential with Lovecraft's works. The comedy attempts were weak and missed the mark, especially for those who are familiar with Lovecraft's stories. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |

This basically is one story arc that is in the ___monagatari series. Like the other stories of this series it is sometimes slow, convoluted and bizarre but mostly somehow enjoyable in small doses even when the subject matter gets a bit offensive. There are clear references to story that came before and sometimes there are info-dumps and blah-blah-blah that can feel like it is dragging out. There is not a definitive ending in the main story arc - clearly this series is meant to go on. Music wasn't memorable. |

This series ended clearly needing and heading into a second season. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |

This series is all about the jokes within a mythological setting and some of them worked for me and many did not. It is likely that many went over-my-head not being raised in a Japanese culture. There were enough funny parts though to keep watching this series even in spite of not caring what happened to any of the characters. There really wasn't a main story arc, each episode was two short stories that were at connected in some trivial way. The series ending was fine as there was nothing that needed to be wrapped up. There was no fan-service. The opening song was unique but not one I ever wanted to hear all the way through. |

Stories were shorts that didn't really depend on any prior story and they were so short that there was simply not enough time to develop the stories in a way that more than the "otaku" audience was going to get the majority of the jokes - which is what each of the story plots centered around and were built on. We kept watching this series to see why there were so many high ratings for it but it never was able to capture our interest other than to wonder just what are "otaku" people thinking if this series captures their relationships so well. There was no fan service. Music wasn't memorable. |

The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed. There were a few flaws, one that bothered me the most was the unexplained reason Inari's brother could see the goddess but Inari could only see the goddess when she had given part of her godliness to Inari. Also, the powerlessness of the goddess and her tolerance of Inari's brother's abusive behavior was a story flaw and out of character for the goddess. Otherwise, the series was a pleasure to watch as Inari learned some important live lessons. The series ending was sufficient but I wasn't entirely happy with it. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |

This was major flaw. Protagonists were mostly likable but their defining traits were over-used and became old and lost their humor. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were developed well enough and mostly (at least at first) had that something to bring interest and/or curiosity about what would happen next. However, the story became quite predictable. The story was simply too long with too many elements being reused and too many jokes being beat to death. The pacing was inconsistent, some story arcs were paced well and some should have been shortened. The series started out quite funny and stayed that way for a while but lack of charter growth, lack of change, stale jokes and lack uniqueness of new story arcs drug the series down toward the end. The series did not end sufficiently and "Inuyasha: the Final Act" is needed to bring a conclusion and resolution to the story and subplots. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |

There were some flaws in the character's strengths/abilities that seemed to change to fit the story being told instead of the story fitting the characters as they were defined and even the definitions were inconsistent. There were many things about the powers of the main protagonist that were never adequately explained. There wasn't enough development to make them particularly interesting. Their likability was inconsistent with their behavior and abilities. The main story arc took a while too understand and it was never really fully developed as more time was spent developing a different main conflict that originally felt as though it was going to be the main story arc. This was a flaw in the writing because the story faltered when we realized that much of what was being built up was not really part of the main arc and this new conflict and not enough was explained to really make sense of it all. The first bunch of minor arcs made sense and went to build up the original main conflict but never had any point in the eventual story arc. The main conflict itself was only partially resolved and much of the behavior around it was really unbelievable and poorly handled which undermined the supposed greatness of the fire clan when they can't even appropriately handle their own internal issues. The later half included a lot of info-dumping backstory in an effort to explain the radically different behavior of the main male protagonist but there still lacked a lot of explanation for what the antagonist was after and why he had done everything he had done in Japan when it didn't really seem to have any point to the conflict with the main protagonist. All in all there was a lot of potential that was lost in the larger picture but smaller arcs were entertaining enough. The ending was satisfactory enough for the main story arc but the original conflict was only haphazardly resolved and as such the ending was weak but there really is no point in another season. There wasn't anything I would consider to be fan-service. The music was not memorable. |

It was the overall story writing in this series really made this series good and a pleasure to watch episode after episode back-to-back. The story ending was a satisfactory ending as it felt like everything that needed to be addressed was addressed even if the conclusions were not always the desired ones. There is nothing in this series I would really call fan-service but there were some oversized breasts that had more attention than usually needed for any other purpose in the story, especially on the main female protagonist, "Miu". Music wasn't memorable. |

However, there was way way too much alternating to a so-called 'chibi' design for the main female character (Sawako) that was funny the first time but became really old really fast - it was like nice artwork going to bad artwork and then eventually back to good artwork and was really distracting. There wasn't much in the way of action but what was there wasn't remarkable. There was too much time spent on stills of faces and not too much spent on panning over still scenes. There wasn't any censoring or need for it. The character development was done entirely through interactions and hearing character's thoughts. It was done well and worked well enough. The main female protagonist (Sawako) is not all that likable but not because she is a bad person, it is more that she is too oblivious and slow to pick up on what is going on. We spend most of the time in Sawako's head, hearing her thoughts, and her thought-processes are just too slow and clueless and really make the episode drag and drag instead of the desired comedic effect. They rest of the main protagonists are all likable enough. The story pacing is too slow. The main story arc isn't particularly fascinating and I was more interested in what happens with the the rest of the characters besides Sawako which kept me watching it, but only in one episode per day doses and in-beween anime with faster pacing and a smarter main protagonist. The minor arcs all worked toward the main arc very well and the writing (ignoring its slowness) was also done well with characters (besides Sawako) behaving reasonably believable enough. This season ended without the main story resolved and as such, with a clear need for a second season. There was no fan-service in this series. The music wasn't memorable. |

The characters all seemed to stay in their roles but other than Momo's mother it was difficult to empathize with or care about any other characters. The main story arc was well done with all the minor arcs fitting in nicely and contributing something to the stories and/or character('s) development. The pacing was too slow for the length of the movie and I often wished it would just hurry up already. The writing, albeit slow, was well done with believable exchanges between people for the most part. Near the end with all the yokai/oni assisting Momo to get across the bridge as well as the straw boat with a letter from her dead father were harder to take then the rest of the fantastical elements and I felt detracted from the overall story. The ending was satisfactory in that it did wrap up everything well enough. This story had no fan-service. Music was not memorable. |

Character development of the main protagonist characters was so-so and weaker for the antagonists. For the most part characters behaved true to character but their behavior sometimes wasn't all that believable, especially regarding nearly instant attraction to the main male protagonist, "Tigrevurmud Vorn", (called "Tigre" mostly) in what was a sort of an harem. Tigre was likable enough but flat due to lack of development, most of the female protagonists were also likable enough but also suffered from weak character development. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly weakly developed which was unfortunate because the setup and main storyline was interesting and had a lot of potential for a richer main arc and more interesting subplots. Unfortunately, most action/fight scenes were too abbreviated and the entire story felt that was as well with the series ending being abrupt with insufficient resolution for most of the main protagonists and one of the antagonists. There was not much in this series I would really call fan-service. However, there was an overabundance of unrealistically large breasts that moved unnaturally that didn't contribute anything. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development wasn't really strong, relying mostly on character interactions but bringing is some backstory at times. At the end of the season we really don't know much about the main characters and even less about the main supporting characters and as such there isn't any reason to empathize with any of them. None of them are particularly likable or dislikable and it is difficult to say if they stayed in character or not. The main story arc and conflict was interesting and not something I've seen done already even though the setting and much of the interactions/scenes are pretty typical for anime with a school setting. And it ultimately was the story that kept me watching even though I didn't really care what happened to the characters. The pacing throughout was pretty god then at the last episode or two pacing abruptly changed with much of what happened between episodes being skipped and only spottily recounted during dialog so all of a sudden a lot changed and I don't know any details about it and that is serious flaw in writing/directing. The ending came up and it really wasn't clear if resolution to the main conflict or even the minor ones had been reached or not - but it was clear enough that it was heading toward another season. There wasn't any fan-service in this series. Music was not memorable. |

There wasn't any noticeable (or need for it) censoring. Character development of the main characters (protagonist and antagonists) was weak. There was a lot of characters in this anime but even the main male protagonist wasn't really developed much and as a result none of them really were likable or all that interesting. We knew who we were supposed to be rooting for but that was pretty much it. The main story arc had potential and quite a few twists in the plot that could have been developed better to have been interesting. As it was most of the subplots were undeveloped and disconnected just enough from the main story to not all feel as there was any purpose for them. There is for example suggestion that there are multiple characters interested in the main male character to hint at a harem theme which was never developed at all so the time spent initially looking like that was were the show was going to go was for nothing. Some of the underlying political and discrimination themes were interesting and made the show watchable. Music wasn't memorable. |

Character development of the main two characters (Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Ootani) was well done, mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others. Risa and Atsushi were the least likable of the six primary characters the story followed due personality flaws that were just too over the top violently emotive. The other four primary characters were not as well developed and other than Risa's best friend, Nobuko, were left only weakly developed all the way to the end of the series. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. It was the fairly well done comedy in this story that carried this anime. Not all the comedy worked for me and the over-the-top emotional outbursts became tiresome and easily predicable. Occasional plot twists were good and kept it entertaining and interesting. No fan-service at all. The series ending was sufficient. Music wasn't memorable. |

The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. The comedy was pretty well written (and acted) and it managed to be funny more often than not. There were a lot of common themes used in subplots but they were written so well as to not feel old, stale and re-used. I had interest in the main female character and wanted things to work out for her and the situational comedy she managed to get into worked for me - except being smart enough to learn anything but can't cook at all and too dense to see that the main guy actually liked her and was not a stalker. I frequently watched many episodes back to back until the series ended and I really would have liked the series to have kept going because the ending was not really sufficient at all. There is nothing in this series I would really call fan-service. Music wasn't memorable. |

There were some good action/fight scenes but mostly these scenes had too many cuts and thus had a choppy feel. CGI was used extensively for magic and worked in well enough. There was quite a bit of poorly done censoring using white out effect instead of something actually skillful and artistic. The character development was weak. There were a few flashbacks but mostly development was by way of character interactions which, unfortunately, were not written well. There apparently was no attempt made to create a like for, interest in, or empathy with, any of the characters. Character behavior was inconsistent, clearly altered as needed for each sub-plot. None of the characters behaved particularly believably either especially regarding the development of the harem around a very weakly developed, unlikeable, uninteresting, unattractive, unintelligent, main character that is supposed to be the hero yet had nearly no redeemable and heroic attributes. The main story arc was very weakly developed with the vast majority of everything revolving around some (mostly improbable) situation written to deliver poorly done fan-service. And that about sums up this series - there was an interesting magic put forth for the story that at first looked like it might get some much more story time and development than it did, instead, this potential was unfortunately lost with the what treatment there was being weak and uninspired. The main conflict was never given much of reason for even happening nor was the reason the main male character had his special abilities. Every now and then it would appear that there might be an attempt to resurrect one of the plot lines and develop it and so potential was there, but the writing and directing unfortunately never took advantage of it. Pacing was erratic and the vast majority of the episodes revolved around minor arcs that didn't contribute to the story such as the harem building, idiotic harem hijinks, swimsuits, frequent clothing shredding, tentacle monsters, etc. The minor arcs existed solely as an excuse for excessive fan-service done wrong which made up most of each episode. Fan-serivce included unrealistic and unattractive breasts that moved contrary to reality, panty and bra shots with a camera angle far too often up the mini-skirts, clothing that was constantly being lost in battle without any injury to the skin beneath, tentacles and the crass stupidity commonly involved, etc, etc. - if it is fan-service and has been poorly done before then it was somewhere in this series if not everywhere in this series. The ending failed to resolve all the holes in the story but did make an attempt to resolve what was apparently the main conflict. Music was not memorable. |

There are clear references to story that came before and sometimes there are info-dumps that can feel like it is dragging out. There is not a definitive ending in the main story arc or the stories that make up the main story arc - clearly this series is meant to go on. Music wasn't memorable. |

As the relationships matured between characters they became more and more interesting and for most of them their behaviors were reasonably believable. The majority of the humor came from character interactions and was well done and while not entirely unique it didn't feel as though I had seen the same jokes far too many times before. However, there was a choice made to make one of the male side characters incredibly violent towards a female character with masculine features - I didn't find this funny at all but rather disturbing that this choice was made when otherwise it was an excellent story and was the main contributor against this series being a masterpiece. The dilemma for the main story arc was more or less made clear right away and most of the series was more focused on various minor plots that all went to contribute to developing characters and/or developing the story, albeit slowly. Although the main arc was slowly moving it was steady and interesting and the episodes were paced very well so that it never felt boring, even when the humor sometimes missed. This was a story that I was able to and enjoyed watching many episodes back-to-back. There was no fan-service in this series. The music was not memorable. |

Unfortunately, at the end the series it felt like much was not resolved and too much was info-dumped at the last minute to try and wrap up a series that should have kept going. Because of this, the pace of the series never stabilized. This is a story that really felt like someone along the way pulled the plug on the project and just threw something together at the series end to kill it. There is not too much in this series I would really call fan-service mostly because of the way it was worked into the story but there was some (but not excessive) really unnecessary breast grabbing, some really unrealistic over-sized breasts, and some panty shots and some people will think of that as fan-service no matter what. Character development was pretty weak and was based mostly on unbelievable character interaction with some brief, implausible and undeveloped backstory by way of explanation. It all really came across as a parody of anime with parody as a main thematic element so much so that the characters are parodies of themselves. That is to say that the characters writing doesn't take characterization seriously enough to have done a better job at it. The main story arc is unclear and just about everything surrounding the bringing of all the main characters together is vague in annoying instead of mysterious way. The minor arcs have conflicts that are clearer however their pertinence to the main story arc is generally not clear. Other than name-dropping, there really isn't much about the series that ties it to the Lovecraft mythos or any of his stories. There actually has been more reference to Lovecraft mythos theme games mechanics then Lovecraft stories. But this the entire series is making pop-culture references frequently to other anime, sitcoms, etc. that also have no relationship to the Lovecraft mythos which goes to enforce the parody them of this series and weaken the Lovecraft theme. The bizarreness of the writing I suppose it why I kept watching the series, there is comedy that works from time to time and picking out obscure references to shows long gone is amusing in a way. I think this anime would have been better with some better writing that took the series a bit more seriously and developed a better link to Lovecraft mythos. Because of the lack of main conflict to resolve (not counting the existence of all Lovecraft referenced main characters in the life of the main male protagonist) the ending was fine even though it didn't feel in anyway like a final ending - it could have just as easily been the ending of any of the minor story arcs. Clearly there was setup for another season but really no need for it. There wasn't anything in this series that I considered to be fan-service. Music was not memorable. |

The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. There was not much that was original in the story, it is a romantic comedy with a love triangle. There are some pretty typical and over-used/stale/not funny falling involving breast grabbing, walking in on showers/baths, swimsuits, etc. gimmicks used but they fortunately are gimmicks occasionally in a well written story instead of story written around boring gimmicks. I enjoyed the story, it was interesting and funny, enough to keep watching many episodes back to back. There were enough panty shots and over-sized breast jiggles, lingerie and swimsuits that there is no denying the fan=service in this series - fortunately, for the most part, it was all done well enough to not detract too much from the anime and in some cases, actually be funny. The ending was sufficient but by the time it ended I had the feeling I knew all the main characters and I didn't really want it to end even though all of the initial problems had been resolved. Character development of the main characters (protagonists and antagonists) was done well enough, albeit slowly, considering how many characters this series had - some flashbacks for backstory was used from time to time but mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics. None of the protagonists stood out to be particularly likable and none of the antagonists really felt all that villainous, that is until near of the series after we had finally learned enough about some of the characters. None of the characters were really believable and all were exaggerated which introduced comedy into the story pretty well. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. In fact, there were some twists I didn't see coming at all that were good. There was too much replaying of previous events and retelling what we already knew. The story was paced well and moved along quickly without ever feeling dragging. There is nothing in this series I would really call fan-service. The series ending was sufficient. Music wasn't memorable. |

The CGI used was mostly for magic and was integrated in well enough to not be obnoxious. There was perhaps more panning of stills than really needed that sometimes felt a bit slow and like filler. There was very minor amount of censoring that wasn't done that well. Character development was weak. The character interactions were not written well enough to develop the characters and the backstory/flashbacks were too lacking in depth to add much to the character development. All of the characters lacked enough depth of development to create much interest or empathy for or with them. Even the villains lacked enough development to really feel all that villainous. The point of the main story arc took a long time to introduce and by them time it was, there really wasn't enough time to fully develop it. There was simply too much time wasted on subplots and minor arcs that didn't contribute to the overall story. The pacing of the series was erratic with the conclusion becoming rushed to attempt to wrap up all the main conflicts which incidentally were not all sufficiently resolved, especially in regards to much of the sub-plots that were introduced late in the series that became something of a basis of the main story arc conflict. There wasn't anything I would really call fan-serivce though there were a very few minor breast exposures that didn't really have any purpose or even comedic effect in the story. The music was not memorable. |

Censoring was less, but still not done all that well failing in the same was as the "censored" version. Character development of the main characters (protagonists and antagonists) was also very well done considering how many characters this series had - some backstory was used from time to time but mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics but there was flashbacks used frequently when needing to fill-in some backstory quick. There still was a lot that was left out about characters leaving an air of mystery around everyone to some extent - much of this mystery was never actually resolved with the series ending. Most of the main characters had likable traits and qualities but just about everyone had at least one trait that made that character somewhat annoying as well. Surprisingly, this worked in this series when normally I would have just disliked everyone for annoying me too much - perhaps it just never became "too much." The main story arc was interesting even though it started out with the over-done "woman falling from the sky" thing. There were some subplots here and there (mostly to build the harem) but but really the emphasis was on developing the main story arc. This was a harem story also and had the typical stupid over-done harem hijinks that just don't have the comedic effect desired for the amount of time spent on them. Fortunately, the main story arc and subplots that revolved more around that had the depth to carry the series over the shallow parts of the harem and excessive fan-service. Yes, there was excessive fan-service mostly in the way of too many panty shots and attacks that miraculously didn't harm the skin beneath the violently shredded clothing. Way too many ridiculously over-sized, oddly shaped and randomly gravity effected/unaffected breast movements that just became so much as to feel pity for the people who think that this made for good anime entertainment. Anyway, what carried this series was the interesting main story and artwork related to it. The ending was insufficient to bring resolution to the main story and most of the questions that had been brought up - clearly another season is intended. Music wasn't memorable. |

I don't recall any noticeable (or need for it) censoring that wasn't incorporated into the scene itself so it was never obtrusive or annoying. Character development of the main characters was very well done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others but in few occasions we had some flashbacks and storytelling used for plot and character development and none felt like massive boring info-dumps. The main characters were almost all likable (the one that wasn't was the girl ( Kaede Fuou) the main male character (Rin Tsuchimi) lives with displayed very very unlikable traits), as were the majority of lesser characters (the fathers of the demon-girl and god-girl were good for comic relief). For the most part these characters all stayed within character although we saw some grow and learned more than was obvious of others that altered their character or at least the perception of the character. The way the personalities were developed made these characters all quite believable except perhaps the King of Gods and King of Demons. The story is where this anime really won. Even though in many ways it comes across as a typical harem with even some typical over-used and not all that funny harem hijacks, Rin was not looking for a harem and wasn't really even aware of the feelings of the girls that surrounded him or his true inner feelings for any of them so effectively it didn't really have that harem feel about it especially as the series developed. There could easily have been more depth brought into the story, especially with the demons and gods, but the there was depth to the subplots that were chosen to develop. I found this series so enjoyable it was very easy to watch many episodes back to back. This series could have continued but it also ended well with the most important plot-lines resolved sufficiently. There was some fan service in the way of panty shots, swimsuits, cleavage, and focus on breasts in general but there wasn't anything that excessive or offensive, I don't really agree with the "ecchi" theme label attributed to it. Music wasn't particularly memorable. |

The writing was really well done even though the entire premise of the story was hard to believe they did a great job of backing it up to almost make it plausible in the not too distant future. The ending wrapped up most of the issues but did leave it open for another season. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |

The pacing was a lot slower, especially in the final arc, which dragged because the considerable emotional tones were simply too much and too heavy-handed. The little action there was this season had too many cuts and was over too fast and the time was instead spent on lot of talking that just wasn't as entertaining as the first season. That said, this series was still done very well. The ending didn't really bring resolution to everything that needs resolution, there could easily be a third season. This season, though, was a step down from the first season which was certainly a hard act to follow up on. |

The main male character was likable enough as were many of the supporting characters and main female characters. Characters tending to stay in character well enough but sometimes those characters traits were annoying. The story may have taken place in the same universe as Tenchi Muyo but this story has nothing at all to to with Tenchi or any of the other characters in the various Tenchi series and movies. The pacing of this story was much faster than the other "Tenchi Stories" and was far more entertaining. There was still a ridiculous harem element that was old. boring and annoying, before it even started in this series, fortunately this series didn't revolve entirely around a failed harem story element as the other "Tench Stories" and there was enough action always going on to keep things entertaining. There was fan-service in the way of naked breasts shots and other implied nudity but it wasn't over done at all and worked fine into the story by way of several subplots that almost only existed for that purpose. Fortunately some of these subplots also had workable comedy. This is the only Tenchi universe story that I have found I could watch more than one episode of at a time and every night until I finished the series compared to the other "Tenchi Stories" that took me weeks to months to finish (and some I still haven't been able to finish yet). Music wasn't memorable. |

The series ending came as surprise and resolution was sufficient but it could easily be continued since each story was most of the time designed to stand on its own. Overall, these were fun enough to watch but I wouldn't have wanted them to be any longer. Closing song (and closing animating) was catchy. |

Unfortunately, the art was clearly not done by the same artists. The action scenes and animation in general was poor and disappointing in comparison to the quality as the TV series and two OAVs. The characters were same but their character design was altered and came across as simpler and less artistic. The voice actors may have even been different, I didn't check, but the spoken lines were much fewer than in a typical series episode and something seemed off about them besides the story writing. The story could have been interesting if it didn't come across as terribly rushed - totally the opposite of a typical series episode that usually felt too slow. There was little depth at all in the story and all things considered it was a disappointment as well. The music was the same as the series. |

The pacing was faster with a lot less time wasted on stills of people staring and less panning over stills and as such more story was packed into a shorter time. In this way, this OAV was better than the TV series. However, the story starts out indicating something had happened and Fai had used his magic to save everyone but we know what that was since that didn't happen in the last TV episode and there isn't an OAV before this. There was a bunch of info-dumping to try and explain and perhaps try and wrap up some of the loose ends remaining from the TV series which had poor ending, however more questions were raised that were not answered and the OAV ended with a similar failed ending as the series by not bring sufficient resolution to the main story arc or even to all of the subplots. Music was the same as the original series. |

There wasn't any noticeable (or need for it) censoring. Character development of the main characters was also very well done mostly through good portrayal of defining characteristics and interactions with others but there were also a lot of flashbacks giving backstory. The protagonists were likable for the most part and stayed true to character for the most part. Antagonists were suitably developed to be unlikable. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were mostly well developed and not always predictable. There was a very slow pacing to the entire series and with as many episodes as it had it sometimes felt dragging. This was especially true when they resorted to long stills of characters starting at each other or panning slowly stills that really didn't contribute. There was far too much repeating the same scenes from earlier episodes again and again that far too often it was like watching re-runs. However, even with some severe flaws the story was interesting enough that I slowly made it through this series. The ending was a disappointment as nothing at all was resolved. It clearly feels setup for another season of the same. No fan-service at all. Music wasn't memorable. |
| Tsubasa: Spring Thunder (OAV) | Excellent | This was a continuation of the Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE series and comes right after the Tokyo Revelations OAV. The main characters were the same and the art and animation was equally very done. The pacing was faster with a lot less time wasted on stills of people staring and less panning over stills and as such more story was packed into a shorter time. In this way, this OAV was better than the TV series. The story, however, was weaker that Tokyo Revelations and created far more questions than were answered. There was more info-dumping as in Tokyo Revelations but fortunately not as much. Unfortunately, even more questions were raised that were not answered and the OAV ended with an even more failed ending as the series and previous OAV by not bring sufficient resolution to the main story arc or even to all of the subplots. Music was the same as the original series. |

However, none of the characters stood out to be particularly likable although by the end of the series this had improved a bit for the main male and female protagonists. The overall story arc, as well as subplot(s), were developed well enough but really lacked something to bring that much interest or curiosity about what would happen next and for the most part was quite predictable. Pacing was slow - sometime dreadfully slow. Sometimes the story itself was just lacking anything about it interesting and with the focus being on an unlikable character it really dragged in the earlier episodes. No fan-service at all. The series ending was sufficient. Music wasn't memorable. |

| Your Lie in April (TV) | Excellent | The artwork for character designs were really very nice and in a bit different of a style that is typical. The backgrounds were also very well done. Action scenes didn't have too many cuts and were smooth. Not much time was wasted on panning still background but there were a lot of longer than felt right scenes of people staring at each other. There was a soft filter effect applied a lot that gave the artwork a different feel than is common and was well done. There was more CGI than I like that was used in backgrounds and the piano and in a lot of effects that was too CGIish compared to the very nice drawing with which is contrasted negatively against. There wasn't any censoring or need for it. The character development was done very well through interactions, backstory, and flashbacks. However, it did start to feel a bit heavy-handed after the same flashbacks were used too many times - we the viewers got it by at most the second time if not by the first. Characters were a mix of likable and unlikable in a reasonably realistic way. Interest was sufficiently built up around the main two musician characters, and what would happen to them and what was the history we were not being told. Characters stayed in character and in we saw them grow and change in realistic and believable ways. The writing was well done but the pacing toward the end of the series just became too slow with a feeling of tragedy that was heavily foreshadowed dragged out a bit too much. The first season was incredibly entertaining and had a lot of comedy that worked and touching moments that worked and the pacing was great. The second season lost the pace and got too heavy for too long. The minor arcs, for the most part, worked well with the main story to give us a picture about the secondary characters but unfortunately in the second season these relationships were left underdeveloped and even when the series ended they left some things unresolved that should have been considering the time spent on them during the series. The final episode sped up the pace too much too try and wrap up too many things all in one episode when previous episodes were too slow with not much really going on that was contributing to the main story arc. As such, due to the foreshadowing the series ending was anti-climatic and predicable and too much was left unresolved. Had the second season been as fast paced and entertaining as the first season and if there was better resolution to several of the minor arcs it would have been a masterpiece. There was no fan-service in this series. There were some really nicely done classical pieces done during the series but neither the opening or closing was memorable. |
