Interesting take on H&C. I think that the manga is well executed, but the anime really brought the story to life, and actually improved on the source material a fair bit IMO. The anime gets me every time Anime hyper! I'm still collecting the manga regardless though, as I wait for an R1 release of the anime *grumbles*

I found Yokaiden to be quite an enjoyable read and I'm glad to see it's this week's featured OEL manga. My only real gripe was the overabundance of expository dialogue in the first part of the story. Once things get going though I found most of the characters are nothing short of endearing. It's worth a look if you like folktales and mythological creatures (not to mention it features a Nue inspired by Kelsey Grammer. Seriously).
I heard Nina Matsumoto's finished the second volume, so hopefully we won't have to wait too long for part two.

I secretly love Beet the Vandel Buster, not because its the best shonen title I've ever read (probably give that to Death Note or Hikaru no Go), but how could I resist something connected to Dragon Quest, even by such a terribly loose link as the (never seen by me) series Dai's (Fly's) Adventure?
But even then, I think its the shonen series that has made me feel the closest to video games and like the world could be an actual RPG universe, which just made me feel all gooey and airy inside!

Glad to know someone else enjoys it and its not just me (and my one other friend)!

I agree with you on H+C, but rank it higher than your score, since it hasn't Jumped the shark until the last few chapters. And I think you're being a tad generous on Rosario, as I was very underwhelmed with the transition of the story.

Animax-Asia is re-running H&C season 2 right now. Has Viz announced an actual release date for their DVDs?

I thought Rosario Vampire (the first series) only really got better towards the end of the series. The Fanservice and harem aspect is what kept me from really enjoying the series.

But at least towards the end, there is character growth. Happy Holiday's Carlos, I look forward to reading Right Turn Only in 2009.

Forgive me if this question is too off-topic, but I was hoping for some folks' advice.

I know ANN made the recent change to the Encyclopedia wherein title with "the" at the beginning of their names are categorized alphabetically by the next word's first letter, instead of the previous system of using the "the" as the key word.

Now, my question is whether or not I should switch my personal comicbook collection to match theirs or not? (I feel it's also worth noting that when I first discovered this site and learned that their sorting system started with series that had symbols such a "! ... * @" etc. I changed my own sorting system to correspond). Go West sounds like a fun read, especially because I need something Western to replace the failure that was Gun Blaze West (get along little dogey). Plus, there's no word on a new Wild Arms game yet, so yeah that void needs filling =P

Though I'm sticking with the shonen side of cooking so far, (Yakitate!! Japan ftw people) I am curious about Kitchen Princess. Is it any good?

Also, I won't deny my love for Beet either. I'm up to volume 12 myself here. I want more! I know it's shonen fanfare stereotyped to the max, but it's done so well! Plus, like many North Americans, I too did not share in Dai's glory either. So Beet is the next best thing.

WELL GEE I DON'T KNOW, I mean there are ONLY reviews of almost EVERY OTHER VOLUME in the series either in ANN's full length reviews or in this column, AND I'M SO NICE I PUT LETTER GRADES FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE TOO LAZY TO READ

Is it any good.
GEEZ. I thought the whole point of me writing this crap was to ANSWER that question.

NO, Kitchen Princess is awful, it sucks so hard that I've read it all the way to vol. 8 and I cried like a pathetic baby in Vol. 6 Razz
