Sooner than expected, which is great news of course, but I'm afraid it could mean it'll be single or split cours. Which would be a shame because while volumes 7-8 are great, we're all waiting for that arc. I really hope there won't be a wait in between.

They say that it's weird for Madhouse to only make one cour but so far there are 14 volumes and the manga on hiatus. If the first season animated 7 volumes there is a chance the arc you are waiting will be animated. |

Season one animated 6 volumes and 3 chapters in 28 episodes, which is even more than a normal two cours. The arc I'm talking about, widely considered the best in the series so far, starts half-way through volume 9 and ends in the middle of 11. If this is a single cour, they'll have to stop right before it starts, if it's a two cours they might even adapt the next one and finish volume 12. I'm excited either way, but I really feel like a two cours season that includes it would be as good and impactful as season one, while splitting it may hurt it a bit. |

Season 1 wasn't split. While that's not a guarantee that s2 won't be (The Ancient Magus' Bride immediately comes to mind as one that did split its second season after not splitting its first), it does make it less likely to be split. Anyway, this is now my Most Anticipated returning title for 2026. |

A bit unfortunate to say that my most anticipated anime is not even in the current year while said year has barely started but oh well.

The manga´s slowdown will lead to a large time gap between S3 and 4 at the last. Or the long wait already starts after S2 if they don´t want to slow down to 1 cour returns. Madhouse´s decision to decompress the pacing of the anime ended up working wonders and is the only reason why S2 can again feature a 2-cour run.

Oh wow, sooner than we all thought. A nice surprise to be sure.

They can split the cours or do a single cour season or anything they need to do if it means keeping the quality up and not sending any staffers to the hospital (or worse). And I'd rather have a single cours in 2026 than a double cours in 2028.
But yes, in a perfect world this will be a double cours show with no interruptions. |

Wish it were sooner but glad to see an announcement. We went so long without any kind of announcement I was getting worried

Is it likely this season will be airing in Friday Anime Night too? I’m guessing so; they premiered it with great fanfare, and it was clearly a big hit. I can’t imagine them passing up the publicity of its return to what’s arguably becoming Nippon TV’s big prestige-anime timeslot. (Plus it’s pretty common for network anime to retain the same timeslot between seasons, even late-night ones.)
That’d leave half a year for another Friday Anime Night series after The Apothecary Diaries S2 ends. Maybe two series — Magilumiere is proof that Nippon TV’s not strictly using it for two-cour shows like the 5:30 PM Saturday timeslot. |
