What is the problem with Bandai?
I ask this question because my DVD player (a tv/dvd combo from Toshiba) won't read half the bandai DVD's (i.e. I just bought the Infinite Ryvius Anime Legends complete collection) while my computer reads them fine. I also ask because of reported problems with certain series (earlier this year My-Otome, Gundam Seed Destiny, Eureka Seven, and Flag and then just a few weeks ago Robert's Anime Corner Store reported problems with the first shipment of Code Geass vol. 1 DVDs and I still haven't found a Gundam Seed complete collection vol. 1 that will show every episode on each disc). This is driving me crazy as a number of big releases from them have been bad while Funimation, ADV, and Media Blasters have maybe a small problem once in a blue moon yet half of the stuff I buy from them has problems reading. Is it just my DVD player or does Bandai need to fix this problem at whatever the source seems to be?

To add to that list, my copies of s-cry-ed vl.4 and 5 skip a few times each in the last episode. My vl.4 is a little scratched, so I thought that's what caused it, but my vl.5 is pristine. I've only played them on my PS2, which I know is considered one of the worst DVD players, but I've never had any issues before with discs that weren't in terrible condition.

It's Bandai. They have an abnormally high number of faulty discs.

As a data point, my Samsung DVD-5650 DVD player has no problems playing Bandai DVDs.

If it plays fine on another player I'd say it's the fault of the DVD player. It's probabally too old or cheaply made. I have one in my room that hates Funimation and VIZ discs myself but plays everything else fine.

I don't know about Bandai discs in general, I don't usually buy from their anime catalog, but at least the Code Geass release does have a pretty high number of reported errors right now, and even the company acknowledged the problem (though they have not explained it) enough to offer exchanges (for those inside the U.S. / Canada).

The explanation I've read is that they used a new copy prevention thing and it's apparently a little too good a guardian. Confused

Of course, Bandai also seems to be using trained wombats to do their DVD replication, so maybe that's the real problem. Either way, they really need to get their act together.
