I have to disagree that this is just an isekai version of 100 Girlfriends because Haruka puts all his effort into ditching any girls who are interested in him instead of accommodating them.

Otherwise I mostly agree with Jeremy's criticisms. Only a cute ED and an uncharacteristically strong last episode saved it from being the lowest-rated of all series I finished last year.

In my eyes, it was a solid no-brainer show. Good enough to follow through. Nothing you need to think over philosophically. Out of the 47 shows I have watched last year, I would have ranked it somewhere around #35. It was by far not the worst show for me but by far also not the best.

I do believe your review was a bit superficial when you try to compare it to 100 Girlfriends.
You miss the premise of the show and it's story but it's not really your fault.
The anime only covers the 1st 2 light novels but the studio did change the last several episodes to tie up the show at a stopping point most likely with the understanding that there would not be a 2nd season.
The female classmates are never any of his love interests, they are just girls he wishes to protect which is why he went alone to take out his fellow classmate who killed the male delinquents so the girls would be safe.
As the story continues in the light novels his love interest is Angela the former dungeon emperor. Oh course the story does become quite 18+

For my sins - and I think I was drunk - I read a few of the light novels.

The review of the anime is pretty fair. It's not great. The light novels aren't great either, but they are better than the anime would suggest. This is one of those stories that, to put it mildly, takes a while to find its pace.

As per JWR10X's post, this is basically an anti-harem show. Haruka never touches any of his classmates and never even seems to like them much. He does find a single romantic (or at least, sexual) partner and more or less sticks to her, but that happens just as the anime is ending (it's Ms. Dungeon Rep).

The LNs are a bit weird and essentially hinge on the dichotomy between how Haruka sees things (reincarnated in a world filled with monsters and ugly old guys, with the occasional hot babe to spice things up) and how everybody else sees things (a big, grand adventure). As such, it's probably adjacent to shows like Let This Grieving Soul Retire.

I haven't kept up with the anime, as it is on H-Dive, and I have Crunchyroll, Amazon, and Netflix. So I can't speak to the anime per se.

The light novel series does grow on you. And it is one of my favorites. Really, it is the silliness of the character and his actions that make this series good.
