Genuinely shocked they're putting out a physical release instead of immediately writing the show off.

They're probably hoping the original series still has enough goodwill with casual audiences that they'd see this and go, "Oh, Rick & Morty" and buy it. Or just cater to whatever completionist R&M superfans still exist. We're long past the Pickle Rick/Szechuan Sauce days, so that number probably isn't huge, but it's likely not zero either. |

True because I mean there is other Toonami series like Housing Complex C and Ninja Kamui which are older than Rick & Morty The Anime but yet haven’t had a physical release yet. But then again sometimes Warner puts a physical release out for some of their shows just before they get write offed as a way to secure a physical release before they do that to be able to at least squeeze some money out of it. That’s what happened to Thundercats 2011 and Beware The Batman. |

The Numbers stopped reporting on physical home video sales, but they did track a few seasons of the show. Season 6 sold ~20k units FW combined in 2023. By the time it fell off the chart, it had moved ~53k units and did ~$1 million in sales.
I would not expect this to do as well as the mainline series, but it's easy to think it would still sell more than the other Adult Swim original anime. |

With an animation budging of $7, I can't think of a series that warrants a BD release less.

I'll be honest when I ask,why did they think we needed an anime version of "Rick and Morty" in the first place? It wasn't like it was really needed, but the anime shorts did well and they thought that an anime version of this show might bring it extra attention. Sadly,it turned out that basically, they did things little differently from your average "Rick and Morty" episode and that's why it didn't do well.
In other words, this was basically your typical "Rick and Morty" show, just done with Japanese animators and there's little real difference between them. That's what I think about it,at least. It might do well on Blu-Ray or DVD,but really, there doesn't seem to any real need for this show in any form. |
