I’ve been big into Bang Dream for a long time, and really do have mixed feelings about this genre shift its gone through. Because that’s what it is, if you zoom out: a genre shift. When I first fell in love with the franchise, it was a cute slice-of-life comedy with just enough sprinkling of occasional conflict to give it a bit of emotional oomph. RAISE A SUILEN raised the stakes a little bit, MyGO a little bit more, and Ave Mujica a little bit more still, and by now it’s at the point where if you jumped straight from 2018 Bang Dream to 2025 Bang Dream, you probably wouldn’t even immediately realize it was the same franchise.

What they're doing now certainly isn't objectively bad, and it's not as if I'm not personally enjoying it at all, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel any sort of resentment towards “new” Bang Dream for taking “old” Bang Dream away from me. Because again, I loved old Bang Dream, and this definitely is NOT that. It's like the feeling of when an old friend grows up to be a totally different person than who they were when you first met them.

Funny thing is: The director has confirmed in an interview with animecorner that MyGo and Ave Mujica were at first intended as a separate thing from Bang Dream but later on in production decided to integrate their story into Bang Dream. Guess they decided it was better than making a new game for MyGo and Ave Mujica. By making them part of Bang Dream they can include them in the already active game and use the game as a source of revenue from fans

I think the discussion needs to go back to The Idolmaster series which were raising sims back in 2005. Looking at other "types" of anime, it seems like it takes about 15-20 years for there to be the big tonal shift (using isekai* and magical girls as other data points). So we're right in the butter zone for the next generation of the idol/girl group stories. It makes sense that we move away from things that benefit the (male) player and shift towards the performers and their travails through an industry whose image continues to decay.

If you are interested, there is a manga in Manga Plus called "Girl meets rock!" that is about that. It's a funny series.

I don't know if they will ever make an anime adaptation, as they use real bands' songs, and the licensing would be a nightmare.

This is exactly the problem I am having with Ave Mujica. I binged the first 3 seasons and MyGo and loved the characters energy and had fun watching them go through trials and tribulations. Ave Mujica comes along and there's hardly any of that, it's become extremely dramatic, has a much darker tone and has almost no music. It feels like I am watching a completely different series.

1) MyGo had around the same amount of music scenes as Ave Mujica.
2) You literally are. The localizes title (Ave Mujica: Die is Cast) doesn’t even have Bang Dream on it. I still think the reason they changed their minds and made it part of Bang Dream was so they could add the girls to the game and use the game as an additional source of revenue besides the typical concert tickets, episode Blu-Rays and song discs
Every Bushiroad anime has some sort of gacha mobile game. And rather than make a new one, they decided to include MyGo and Ave Mujica in the one they already had made and is active
