Hey, mdo7, thanks for dropping by and filling us in. I'm always interested in how people's anime habits may (or may not) change over time and it's also interesting to see what other forms of entertainment they enjoy. Like you, I enjoy watching retro OVAs and I've gotten serious lately about watching some that are in my physical collection. Also, like you, I'm concentrating more on titles that have good storylines. Recently watched Super Dimension Fortress Macross for the first time recently and really enjoyed it.

You can try watching Armored Trooper VOTOMS, it's a slow burn but I found the story very good, I bought the BD collection back in early 2023. I've been watching other old school anime out there that has since been made available like Giant Gorg, Ninja Senshi Tobikage, Space Adventure Cobra (yes, the 1982 TV show), and I've been watching some anime titles from the 2000's that wasn't made available to me back then like for example I'm currently watching Tytania, ColourCloud Palace/Saiunkoku Monogatari, & Earl & Fairy. I do watch newer one (on Netflix, or however I can access the anime), like back in early 2023, I was able to borrowed and watched After the Rain on Blu-ray (and I enjoyed it, I wish it was 24-30 episodes instead of 12). I watched Vampire Garden on Netflix, along with other titles like High Rise Invasion, Drifting Home, A Whisker Away, and probably other titles on Netflix (too many to list). I just finished watching Look Back on Prime Video very recently. I mean I got other anime that I have to finish watching on Netflix (along with some foreign-language TV dramas I'm watching on there like for example, this one before it get remove from Netflix at the end of this month). Now you know what I'm dealing with here, Blood-? |

![]() By the way, I bought all 16 DVD volumes of Armored Trooper VOTOMS last year and watched the first two. I liked them but stalled out for some reason. Will definitely get back to them in the New Year. |

Heh, could've saved you a lot of shelf space, and also beneficial for your HD or 4K UHDTV if you have bought the BD collection. But whatever fit your boat, but I have a 4K UHDTV so hence the BD collection. But anyway, beside watching anime (and other stuff on streaming), I went the extra mile to watch behind the scene documentary about these anime on YT. Blood-, I'm not sure if you're familiar with some of the prominent YTubers that make documentary videos on anime like do you know Kenny Lauderdale (one of his video about Chargeman Ken went a bit viral)? Kaiserbeamz? MercuryFalcon? GTV Japan? A few days ago, I was watching a documentary about the anime OVA era like this one, and this one. Hell, I just watch a short video about anime shown on KTEH (now called KQEH/KQED today), a local PBS station in San Jose/bay area California did broadcasted/shown anime back in the old days before Toonami and streaming made anime mainstream. I would love if ANN's News or Interest team could do a write-up and sharing of these video I just mentioned/featured in the post. That could help our younger fans, and also long-time anime/manga fans on ANN to get some education on that. Also, Blood-, I stumbled this never before seen documentary film from 1982 that talked about manga created by the Japan Foundation, and yes the documentary is in English. I emailed/send this video to ANN's News & Interest team hoping that they could write up an Interest article on this particular documentary from 1982 about manga, ANN has not written up the article since I emailed it to them. It's quite a discovery and this documentary popped up on my recommendation out of nowhere on YT and I'm glad this particular video has been uploaded, this particular documentary looks like something that has been almost forgotten by time and this came out a year before Frederik L. Schodt's Manga! Manga! book that help give manga the spotlight in the US. So this really needs a big push by ANN's staff, I've shared it on MAL forum, and I even shared it on my Anilist profile. |

No, I don't tend to avail myself of YT (or other) anime commentary I have to admit. Every now and then YT will recommend something like that to me but I hardly ever click on the suggestion, which I guess explains why it doesn't do it more often. As for saving room in my physical collection... I'm one of those weirdos who goes in the opposite direction. The most notorious example is that I had 7 seasons of Inuyasha in DVD sets and I had watched the first three and was into the fourth when I had the opportunity to by all 55 DVD singles (which up until that time I hadn't even realized existed) and I couldn't resist because having the show in that form tickled my collector's pride. I semi-tried to justify it along the lines that since there were only 3 episodes per disc on the singles, the visual quality would probably be better than on my DVD sets that crammed more episodes per disc...

I started watching anime in 2016, and just like the OP, I watched countless titles one after another. However, now I feel that the new titles don't bring me as much enjoyment as they used to, and they can't capture my interest the way they once did. Still, I often return to my favorite anime and can rewatch them multiple times.
