I'd go with Days with My Stepsister

There is no action but a lot of drama building up throughout the series. I like how the story was narrated as it was something else. It was complicated to follow at first but in the end the conclusion made sense. It is more like a psychological drama about the feelings of the protagonist towards his new stepsister and the same way around. I would really love to see how the story progress in a second season but this will unlikely happen.

Dead Dead Demon's De De De De Destruction

A moving story of friendship in a world torn-free of its moorings, speaking directly to the terminally online. Equal part cynical and zany and with a cutting caricature for every personality, a grossly underrated satire of modern society.

How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer

Because the category is for "Most Underrated Anime Series of the Year", not "Best Underrated Anime Series of the Year", and this series isn't even tracked in ANN's weekly rankings despite being quite good.

My Wife Has No Emotion

Comfy sci-fi slice-of-life with robots surpassing their limitations by slowly developing consciousness and emotions seemingly beyond their original programming and the humans who treasure them.

My only real complaint with the adaptation is that it stopped just short of introducing whom I consider to be the most interesting character in the manga, spoiler[Erisu Isami], but I can always hope that they'll do a second season.

Nina from Girls Band Cry. A wonderfully flawed and determined ball of rage.

I think you probably meant that post to go in the thread for female lead characters. This thread is for underrated series.

Ah, sorry about that, I had multiple tabs open and messed up. I don't see an option for deleting, so I edited it with my actual nomination for this category. Thanks for telling me!

I'll reiterate my nomination here:

Girls Band Cry was incredibly good, but ended up under discussed in most places because of how long it took streaming services to pick it up.

Mission: Yozakura Family

SILVER LINK isn't a studio people have high expectations for, but it's still worth noting that expectations for this series were largely surpassed. While half of the studio's works have been in development hell, the staff of Yozakura delivered 27 whole episodes of consistent entertainment that even managed to wow me occasionally. I read the source material too, so I admire the passion it took to create a true adaptation that adapted the manga in a uniquely faithful way.

Depends on what you're looking for in an anime, I like slice-of-life so I always have high expectations from the studio that made Non Non Biyori.

An Archdemon's Dilemma: How To Love Your Elf Bride

Just based on the title, you wouldn't expect any to come of this one, but it turned out to be a a funny, surprisingly sweet, and thoroughly endearing story about two awkward individuals (and the hangers-on who accumulate around them) learning to live together in a fantasy setting. It also featured remarkably robust world-building and one of the year's better musical scores.

Delico's Nursery

Didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. I didn't think Heaven Official's Blessing could be considered, so I went for my second choice to play it safe.

The Do Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor

Despite being very misunderstood to start, none of those issues have materialized and what has been presented is a refreshingly original (to me at least) and enjoyable story. A well balanced "dramedy" with good production values, varied and lively personalities and character moments deftly inviting the viewer to think about motivations and revealing inner traits. What strikes me most is the plot crux of how might Damsel Jill keep a sensitive but OP Dragon Emperor Hadis from descending into despair/depression from his unfortunate circumstances as target of a manipulative Goddess and hostile nobility, thereby becoming the monster who inflicts the same on the future she knows?

Someone's already nominated Demon Lord 2099 and I didn't finish a lot of anime this year, so that basically leaves me with Acro Trip.
