I used to really like the anime, so recently I got around to reading the manga. I've read the first 4 volumes, but it really doesn't seem that special... Does it improve as it goes on? It's 23 volumes, so I imagine it must so. Confused I just don't want to read the rest of the series if its going to be consistent at this quality.

Oh BOY does it get better. This is my absolute favorite manga. If you're up to 4 that means you're about to start the the Shisei fight(the one in the anime with the 4 guys). After that it's completely different from the anime, and I think it proves itself to be the best shonen manga ever. Also if you don't like the art at where it's at now, don't worry. It's gonna look very good very soon.
Trust me, if you like the anime, you will love the rest of the manga. Most fans seem to dislike the anime, and like the manga better. I think they're both pretty good, but the manga has so much more action, and a much better(less boring story). Great ending, and some of the best characters ever. Believe me, what you saw in the anime is the tip of the iceberg (like the top 0.6mm of it lol)

Houshin Engi gets a lot better once it gets over the part the anime mostly covered. Though the anime always differed a bit from the manga, they really go their own seperate ways once the two princes come back and that's exactly when the fun part begins in the manga Smile
