The weirdest Anime I have seen is Bo-bo-bo. It makes me laugh but at the same time im going WTF. It's one of those anime they had fun with and never cared that it made sense. All and all I still like it, but I still say WTF every time I see it.

So...in keeping with our listing rule, what was it about the show that made you go "WTF?" So far, all we know from your post is that you think Bobobo is funny and weird because it makes you go "WTF," but that doesn't tell us a single thing about why you think it's weird.

Probably alot of the time you were going "WTF" was because of the Japanese references that you didn't understand. This happens pretty often when people watch anime like Excel Saga too. So the anime probably wasn't quite as wierd as you thought, you just needed to know the references. The wierdest anime I've seen? Probably Hare+Guu. It's an anime about a very tormented young boy living in the jungle with an alcholic mother, who's friends with a pink-haired little girl who eats everthing and has an alternate universe inside her stomach. Inhabitants of which include a rapping panda, a cat with an infinite amount of legs, a fish with huge lips, a very angry yet misunderstood woman, and a whole bunch of other wierd things. Hare+Guu comes out in stores December 27, remember to get it! |

I think many will agree that Azumanga Daioh's sweet charm owes to some of its very 'weird' moments. One of the more frequent instances is when a character repeats a single word or phrase twenty times until we cannot help but to break out a storm of laughter. spoiler[Like in episode 12 when Tomo triumphatly proclaims 'baka' to Yomi until she explodes in fury.]. And of course, spoiler[in episode 21 (the trip to Okinawa) when Osaka makes a fascinating discovery of 'Sata Andagi']. Other instances of classy 'weirdness' include the scenes with the flying cat (aka Chiyo's dad). Just one look into the cat's seemingly 'fixed' eyes would make anyone laugh. The funniest scenes, I think, were always accompanied with an uncontrollable laughter and an appreciative "what the hell?!"[/spoiler]

The Ping Pong Club...
I might have one of the more open minds when it comes to comedy, but this series pushed the limits on a regular basis and made me cringe more times than I can remember. It took me a long time to make it all the way through, largley because I could only stomach so much at any one time. Just getting through the first DVD released (#4) took the better part of a year. Sick humor at its best and worst in one series. I know some mods want lots of specifics in every post, but I'm not going to detail all the sick nonsense in this series. If people want to gag and cringe they should just rent it and see why nothing before or since can hold a candle to the most disgusting anime of them all. Enjoy! |

Picking just one strange anime is too difficult for me, so I'll have to rant about a few.
FLCL - This show isn't as strange after watching it three or four times, but it does have some bizarre elements. I'd never beofre watched a show that contained scrolling manga panels, South Park Parodies, hitting a meteor/baseball with a guitar back into space, and pink haired...I think she was an alien. Oh yeah, and the seaweed eyebrows. That was weird. Cromartie High School - It's either really wierd, or that and a combination of "badly done". I think I'll go with the latter. The whle pencil swallowing thing didn't fly with my sense of humor, and the robot and opening theme...huh? So I guess Bo-bo-bo is the strangest of them all, but since I knew what was coming, it didn't shock me as much. I haven't seen much of it, but the art is just way over the top with big eyes and simply drawn spiky hair. The English voice acting adds to the clashing colors and plot about...pickles I think it was. And hair. |

Is Cat Soup considered an anime? I bought it in the anime section so I think it is but anyway Cat Soup is just real trippy and sometimes a little hard to follow because it´s a short film so you don´t hear dialogue. The weirdest part was when a guy tried to make Cat Soup out of the cats and came out in a dominatrix outfit with a giant pair of scissors. And then it had a weird segment that showed the ¨circle of life¨ and lets just say it began with the cats taking a crap in the ocean.

The weirdest I'd have to say is Battle B*damon. I mean, I can understand the plots of most of those kiddie shows like Pokemon and Beyblade, but this one has got me wondering what is the point of this show?

I don't really know if it would qualify as exactly weird but I found Neon Genesis Evangelion to be a mind trip. It is a very complex and intricate story that dives deep into human emotion and thought with alot of phylosophical ties. As the series progresses it becomes harder to understand without watching it over and over to find hiden meanings and having a slight grasp of phylosophy and to a certain point religion (in a broad sense). I thirily enjoyed the series up until the end and the movies took a little time to get a grasp of the concepts presented but enjoyable to watch at the same time without being in a class getting a lequire. I don't know what every one elses opinions are about Evangelion but it has to be the most enjoyable WTF series I have seen.
Note: I am writing this at 4 in the morning so if I miss spelled something I'm sorry... |

The wierdest would be End of Evangellion for making next to no sense but still somehow ending up satisfying me and being entertaining. spoiler[It killed of my favorite character from the series though, Misato.]
![]() Another example of total confusion for you would be Serial Experiments Lain although unlike EoE it does try to explain the odd events going on. One will have an easier time with it if they understand the way the internet works and have knowledge of computers I've found. EDIT: Now that I really think about it actually, the wierdest anime I've seen is hentai I was tricked into watching by my brother in law called Angel of Darkness which he was trying to pass off onto me because he didn't want it. It was horrible for the most part, I'll spare you the details. Last edited by Kruszer on Tue Nov 29, 2005 3:39 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Seeing that Cat Soup has already been mentioned, I'll go for Mindgame. It starts off kind of sensible, but progressively becomes weirder and weirder until it becomes rather reminiscent of Cat Soup, especially the whole spoiler["inside the whale"] sequence. It also makes extensive use of the spoiler["no, you're not supposed to die yet so get back down there" device] à la Excel Saga.

i was joing to say FLCL, but the person above me reminded that mindgame is way more wierd. ( and makeing a LOT of sense in the same time ... ) specially whenspoiler[ they were being chased by cars, and then one of the bad guys dies, then the scene changes to the bad guy whom we don't know, talking ot his birdie in his childhoo, and the BAM! we are back in the action of car chase ] just wierd
another one is serial experiments Lain, specially the 3 last episodes, i was able to roughly follow it up, but that last 3 episodes stoped makeing sense and somehow were too wierd. like when spoiler[lain's sister gets all messed up for no reaseon, or when lain suddenly has hands and shirt of a green alien who has nothing to do with anything, WTF? ] |

Weirdest anime. I'd have to go with Excel Saga. I rented it at our 2$ rental store and it was crazy. My friends tease me about having an "oo shiney" complex. And this anime definately fed to that. It's just so random. One thought starts and then another takes over. and then another and another and another! And then just meaningless babble that makes the viewer go crazy!
Did I mention I also loved the serries? ![]() |

I guess weirdest for me would either be Akira or Ghost in the Shell(movie). Akira left a lot of items discussional specially witht he ending in what actually happened to spoiler[ Tetsuyo wether or not he became his own planet, universe, etc.] and plenty more of items that made you wonder what was it actually was this suppose to be, what actually happen to akira, etc..
Ghost in the Shell when I first saw it I didn't understand what was happening during that time. It took me several times of watching it (dubbed) to get the full picture. But because I had to watch it several times to understand it I kind of grew to hate it....I never saw the second movie but the show, S.A.C., I really do enjoy because it explains more and has more indepth story to it. But when I first saw Ghost in the Shell I would of said that is the weirdest anime movie I've ever seen. Trying to figure what ghosts were and then pay attention to the story, who's the puppet master, what was the puppet master really after, etc. just left me thinking a little too much about it. So, it's between Akira and Ghost in the Shell, though I'm pretty much leaning towards Chost in the Shell (probably because I love the Akira movie). |

Just so you know that was the second one mentioned (I mentioned it), I just called it under it's official English name. But nobody else has mentioned it since then, so maybe people have forgotten about it... Fear not, Guu's reign shall once again be reborn when AN Entertainment releases their R1 release on Dec. 27 (I hope). The collecters box comes with a free afro ![]() Edit: Hare+Guu has been delayed until February 14, curses. Last edited by PantsGoblin on Thu Dec 01, 2005 12:33 pm; edited 1 time in total |
