First off, thw whole reason I post here is mainly because there is just the right amount of people and think thats great. I used to go to anandtech and got some talk of anime, but by the next day it would take you an hour to read all the replies.
So I came here, but the only thing I think ANN lacks is just an off-topic forum. I liked to be able to discuss off and on-topic matters with the same poeple, helps you to "know them" ---in a matter of being online. So I think it would be a good idea to add an off-topic forum for just random intersting things people have to talk about. What do you all think about it, and to the moderators: would this be a possibility or what?

Yeah, I think we had this discussion a little while ago. I think the guys in charge are going to add one eventually. Most OT stuff you put up won't be locked or anything as long as it isn't something stupid.

I would not expect that to happen, but it is nice to have it sorted out a bit and easier to know that what you are about to read is off topic. |

I don't think this is a bad idea. Though still I'm relatively new around here, I've noticed that many of the Off Topic threads are the most popular. Plus this may give a better outlet for people to introduce themselves... instead of the "Hello" threads.

I like this idea too! I've been reading posts on the boards here for months, and finally decided to post.
After all this time I'm a little curious as to what everyone thinks outside of anime. But, hey I still love anime it's just... Hopefully ANN will start this up. |

we're going to stick with what we've got currently before adding anything more... we -did- just add events and manga, after all. we have an interest in keeping the discussions on-topic currently.. we might add an off-topic forum later, but it's not currently in the plans (although we have discussed it) |

Ok, thanks for repsonding. I do not have a website or know about making one so adding a new forum to me could be easy/hard to make. Why though do you want to keep it to on-topic?

it's easy to add; the forum itself is a customized version of an open source package called 'phpbb'. it could be added in 15 seconds if we wanted it to be. however, we do want to keep people here on-topic because, well, we're a website about anime, not a website about the Iraqi War, or suggested car purchases, or whatever.. There are better places to discuss that sorta thing. Besides, the General forum is already fairly liberal in terms of what we allow to be posted here.. as long as there's some fairly reasonable way it could be connected to anime it's okay here. |
