Comment:
James Cameron and Twentieth Century Fox held the film rights to Battle Angel Alita since 1999 - with Fox registering several website domain names related to the title as early as 2000, but the live-action adaptation was put on indefinite hold due to Cameron's commitment to the 2009 film Avatar and its upcoming sequels. In 2015, production proceeded after Robert Rodriguez was announced as the film's director.
With a worldwide earning of over US$400 million and a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 60%, Alita: Battle Angel is the highest grossing and highest rated live-action adaptation of an anime or manga by the western film industry.
