I'm also super excited for Anne Shirley! As someone who also loves the World Masterpiece Theater, I'd gladly take more anime versions of Western children's books than all the isekai we get any day of the week!
BTW, have you seen that young animator training project short called The Chronicles of Rebecca? It's an adaptation of several chapters of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and it's super cute and charming! |

Witch Watch is such an interesting series. I've been reading it since it started and its brand of humor is such that I was actually close to dropping it early in its run. Then we got a great chapter playing up the romance and I stuck around and if nothing else it has been an interesting read every week. The write up for it does a very good job describing the type of series it is since it really is a bit of everything and while the comedy can be very hit or miss, from the previews I know one of the SUPER Japanese culture chapters is going to be adapted and it's going to fly right over western audience heads, it does have some great gags too. It also has a lot of heart and it's insanely good at classic shonen action when it wants too and both of those things should show up over the course of the anime's run.

I haven't seen it, but I know of it! Kate Douglas Wiggin is criminally underadapted to anime; I would love to see the Penelope series animated. |

Not at all surprised the two shows I am looking forward to the most get no mention.
Mono - After a manga by Afro and set in the same world as Yuru CampΔ - enough said. Food for the Soul - Coming of age story created by Atto (Non Non Biyori) and made by P.A. Works. Very good chance we get something on the level of Shirobako, Sakura Quest, or Aquatope on White Sand. |

Yeah, it's easy to see why Witch Watch is the fourth-least-popular current WSJ manga on Manga Plus (after Me & Roboco, Super Psychic Policeman Chojo, and Star of Beethoven). There are whole chapters build around elaborate wordplay that barely manages to translate despite Adrienne Beck's best efforts. Then there's the chapters that ramble about denim and vintage clothing. Or the elaborate shitposting about an in-universe shonen battle manga. …And then Shinohara reminds you that oh yeah, he's the guy who made Astra Lost in Space, and he is really good at character writing. I don't love it enough to follow it through multiple media, but I'm looking forward to seeing how the anime's audience likes it. |

For as broad as the upcoming season is, there's actually nothing that I'm super-hyped about. Of the ones listed here, I'm probably most interested in Rock is a Lady's Modesty and Lazarus. Among other titles, I'm probably most curious about Once Upon a Witch's Death and I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire! (although I have mixed feelings about the latter after seeing the two-episode preview currently available on CR).

Question for the class: As of yet, I have not watched any of the Gundam mega-franchise. Given that, could I plunge right into GQuuuuuuX or is there an installment or two I should watch first as prep?

Your Forma's novels are really good so I hope they get a good adaptation, one that somehow manages to work even though it skips the first volume. I'm both excited and terrified.

Definitely looking forward to Anne Shirley the most. I've read all the Anne books, and the 1979 World Masterpiece Theater anime is one of my favourite anime in general.

I'm just confused by the implication that the chapters about denim or the hilarity that is Uron Mirage are somehow negatives. The pun chapters are a bit sad mostly because only 50% of the jokes usually translate and they do make me feel for the translator (like, holy shit the bread chapter was something else). But still they can be funny. Then again, I actually do enjoy Me & Roboco and Super Psychic Policeman Chojo as well (though I'd say Witch Watch is a lot more sophisticated as a comedy). There just seems to be a certain bias against comedy/gag manga in Jump at large. Witch Watch sort of straddles the line because while it does have almost purely gag chapters it also has a lot more character-driven comedy, romance, and straight up action. |

I am super hyped for Vigilantes. I've not read the whole series, but from seeing various scenes posted around the internet plus reading the first few issues, it's got me pretty pumped. But then, I'm a total mark for superhero stuff, so the chance to drop back in to the world of MHA is a no-brainer for me.
