Aside from the Fushigi Yugi anime, the magazine, and the spin-off manga, there is also a series of novels called "Fushigi Yuugi Gaiden". These The novels were planned and illustrated by Yuu Watase, and written by Megumi Nishizaki. Many of them focus on the lives of the characters of "Universe of the Four Gods of Heaven and Earth" before Miaka and Yui enter there lives. Other continue or expand the original Fushigi Yugi story.
