Excited to dive into this tomorrow -- I still haven't played LAD8, so hopefully the reused areas, mini-games and follow-up side-stories won't spoil that game for me, whenever I find a spare 100 hours or so to get around to it.
(Also it's very amusing to me that we're getting three different games in the span of about one year that could be loosely described as "Anime Black Flag" after years -- decades? -- of folks desperately hoping for another take on the Black Flag formula.)
On the subject of the musical numbers, I gotta ask, though: just slightly different versions of the karaoke stuff we've seen a thousand times over the course of this series, or something more nautical-themed? Dare I hope for proper sea shanties?

Well, that's not weird for the franchise as Kamurocho has been reused several times until makeovers with new engines. This was also present in the fighting styles and AI employed. Yakuza 3 came quite fast after Kenzan cos they used a similar fight engine but without the swords most fights were kinda boring due to the handling of the enemy AI.

Out of the entries I have played so far, Gaiden was my favourite, so I'm really excited to play this tomorrow. The fact that the review says that this is the most fun Yakuza game to date gives me high expectations.

I will say that this is a beefier game than Gaiden, so it takes a little while longer to get to the good stuff. When it hits, though, it *hits*.

I think you misunderstood me. The other two games I was vaguely sort of gesturing at are Falcom's two Nordics titles, the first of which came out last October, with a sequel being announced just last month.
It was a comment more pointed at Ubisoft's ineptitude than anything else.
