I think old horror or sickly sweet anime are the best for date nights. Rumiko Takahashi’s 90s Mermaid Scar is perfect with its short length, romance and creepiness. On the flip side The Dangers in My Heart is so cute I don’t know how anyone can’t fall in puppy love after watching it.

While anime has been part of many get-togethers with potential +1's, I think the only time for me there was snogging in the middle of anime was watching the first disc of FMA.

Of all the anime you mentioned, I'm kind of surprised you didn't include these anime titles which makes sense if you're having date night:

Ride Your Wave (I mean this anime film is basically a Nicholas Sparks styled storyline. Here's how I would give it to anyone: What if Nicholas Sparks did an anime, you got Ride Your Wave)

Wotakoi (I mean this down to earth rom-com anime does translate really well for any 2 anime nerd couple that want to watch together, I'm kind of surprised Chris & Lucas didn't mentioned this title at all)

Maison Ikkoku (You mentioned Urusei Yatsura, and Ranma 1/2 2024 buy you forgot Maison Ikkoku in there)

My wife greatly enjoyed watching Monster Musume with me. I realize that might not suit everybody's tastes, but...

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Your Name, or Millenium Actress would be good movie choices, Hanasaku Iroha and Violet Evergarden are among the many series I'd recommend.

It occurs to me now that perhaps the reason I've never quite managed to give the One Piece anime a fair shot was because of a date with someone who liked that show maybe a little too much,

My wife's not the anime fan like I am, but she's enjoyed several of the shows we've watched together.

Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya is her favorite. She also really likes Toradora, Apothecary Diaries, Spy x Family, Insomniacs After School, Ghost In The Shell (the original movie), The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Your Name, The Big O, and anything Miyazaki/Ghibli.

Ones that she didn't care for include Dandadan, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 (new version), RahXephon, and Genshiken. She said that either the humor didn't land for her, or in the case of Maison Ikkoku and RahXephon, she just found them boring.

Before we started dating, she had been a big fan of both Gundam Wing and Inu Yasha but told me later that neither held up well for her on re-watches.

Interspecies Reviewers was brought up as a risky choice, but it was actually fairly popular for couples viewing back when it was airing. (Of course, my impression from the anecdotes was that those were established couples, so it probably is still a risky choice if you're early in the dating process.)

Agree with others that Your Name would be a good water-testing title, and I could easily see The Apothecary Diaries being good, too. (One married couple I know well watches it together.)

I like to also add 08th MS Team into my recommendation for anime date night recommendation. I mean the romance between our 2 main characters despite being on opposite factions can make an interesting date night if you're watching anime.

A lot of OP fans unfortunately can get a little too zealous, I've found. I've never dated one but I do have platonic friends who are that way...

You have to excuse us a bit. You sit through over 1100 episodes of anything and you're bound to get a little batty. Laughing

A buddy of mine back home had a "fun" date night with his then-girlfriend when he invited her over to watch a Studio Ghibli movie neither of them had watched.

The movie they watched that night was "Grave of the Fireflies." Laughing
