I watched the first episode, more out of bored curiosity than anything, and it was everything I expected: namely, nothing at all. I get that these web novel/LN's and their respective anime adaptations, particularly in the LitRPG and isekai space, are mostly amateurs trying to write their first story and thus are little more than grist for the endless content mill. But it kills me how few of them follow even the basics of storytelling and how they have so little interest in actually examining their own premises beyond the first chapter.

My evaluation of the series (which I did finish) is very similar to Kennedy's, and for mostly the same reasons. It was my second lowest-rated series for the Winter season, ahead of only the disaster that was Ubel Blatt.

I disagree with the proposed 'better version,' which sounds like every other show I've seen. I initially thought it might end up having a huge parade of not-particularly-impressive-but-still-practical skills (like fruit-growing), which would have been a genuine fresh take. But everyone dreams of being the hero, I guess.

while ubel blatt with definitely a disaster ( and in contention for worst of 2025 alongside uzumaki ) , bogus skill is anything but, though you will need to know the source materials to enjoy it. for as usual with these ad promo type series, they clearly removed a lot of content from the light novels that would have made a difference in making the main characters more likable to those that are not in tuned with the LNs!

besides, as a main character, ill gladly take light over those unbearable anti hero MC types ala leon from world nortorious talker or that guy from failure frame any day of the week!

Bogus Skill as a franchise may be "anything but," but the anime version specifically is what's being evaluated here.

Won't dispute this.

I feel like "at least he's better than Fatal Frame's MC" is a textbook example of the phrase "Damned by faint praise."

Honestly the most I know about this show is that the central gimmick is barely a factor and the MC is barely a factor in the final arc (for better or worse).

But instead, we got yet another generic adventure anime.

Honestly, I wish I shared y'all's optimism. There was a point in the past year where I was watching 3 different isekai series and was amazed at how seamlessly these 3 particular series blended into one another.
