Wow. This makes no sense.
No, the article makes sense. And yes, it was kind of low and confusing for the staff to do that to that voice actor (forgive me, I have no idea who he is). However, I don't think it's something to get so worked up about. Hell, even going to Kitamura's Twitter and slandering her, a completely unrelated actress, so much that fans can't enjoy following her twitter anymore? Wow. Just wow. Crazy otaku be crazy. |

Very true. I was looking forward to following Kitamura on Twitter (I joined recently), but it looks like that's not going to happen. Disappointing. |

Also, Takuma Terashima makes a very solid and calm point on his blog (love you Terashima!). He says that while people may not realize it when typing, but words can absolutely cause harm. Him and that voice actor are friends, go over to each other's houses... Takuma told him, "I'm sorry this happened." That voice actor replied, "Let's do our best." and stood back up.

This is so very Japanese on a whole bunch of levels. I await the apology for the apology of the original apology due to it being insufficiently apologetic. But yeah, the whole idea was dopey from the get-go and then executed with successive waves of dopiness.

I hope this whole event does not affect the anime per se. It is a good story, and it would be a shame to see it in bad light due to something caused by the PR personnel.

You love Terashima?
It IS a fact that he said "it's beatiful to see a man's hopes crumble" or something along that line, look it up. Also this is just low, making Ichiki write all those things, how low and apologist the staff in charge can be is beyond me. Just apologize straight up already, because on contrary to how they would like to make things appear, they really did humiliate Ichiki, and he sure as hell suffered a great deal. |

I remember seeing a boycott list, and Kokoro Connect's discs were the first item listed. I have no idea if the apology will rectify the situation, or if the boycott will proceed. Even 100 fewer discs per volume sold is a colossal amount of money for anime. |

One of the many, many things I don't get about this, is why hire Ichiki for Public Relations in the first place?
Is he a part of the cast? Nope. Is he someone famous enough that people will say "I don't know anything about the show, but if he of all people recommend it, I'll check it out!", like hiring a celebrity who doesn't actually have anything to do with the product? Doesn't seem that way. Is he generally good at doing PR work? Don't know, but I'm guessing that he's no different than any other randomly selected voice actor. So what do the producers gain on this? "Haha, we got a lot of laughs out of this prank! As he's doing a job for us that someone else probably could've done better. While we pay his salary. And get bad PR over our treatment of him..." |

If you want a lesson on terrible PR and damage control here it is.
"I am sorry because you guys misunderstood." isn't an apology. Not to mention all the various lies and omissions in the statements. "insufficient consideration regarding performers" is just PR talk for "we don't give a hoot about this no name guy we picked on, we just loved watching/recording his hopes and dreams crumble while we laughed about it; also, we will take down all videos of the event and sue anyone that tries to slander us." Then what happened? They made the guy write a soulless statement full of PR talk. Same with the other VAs. Meanwhile, Yamanaka himself remains silent. It is evident that the perpetrators will emerge unscathed. And the fault lies with the fans for misunderstanding. Such a lovely world we live in. |

This reality TV would be better than the actual series!

Maybe I'm struggling to understand because I just woke up about fifteen minutes ago, but I barely have any idea what the Hell this is supposed to be. At some point I expected somebody to say, " I'm a dude playin' a dude disguised as another dude."
Am I safe with the general understanding: The staff of Kokoro Connect tried to pull off some weird, dumbass PR stunt and then a bunch of people were catty jackasses about it, so now everbody's apologizing? If that's wrong, is there a reason that I should want to get it right? |

They pulled a "prank" indeed, that involved a crushing a guy's dream by inviting him to a fake audition, then humiliating him on public broadcast via NicoNico and laughing at him.
Now they're even making him apologise and giving him lines what he doesn't think at all, it completely contradicts his initial reaction stating "he'll never forgive" them. |

Stupid is not an adequate word.
Anime is a very small pond, it is only prudent to not muddy the water let alone do something akin to soiling it. <Sigh> Mark Gosdin |
