Ah, so that is why some of the stuff I'm watching wasn't uploaded to Crunchyroll at the usual time. I've paid so little mind to the Olympics that a broadcast delay didn't occur to me.

A marksmanship anime would be seriously sick, any time I've seen guns in anime the context is fantastic, historical, or criminal. I understand why considering their legality there, but man could you create a cool manga if you dug into all the technical stuff and paired it with some good drama.

I've been watching the Olympics since 1996 (I watched the Team USA women's Gymnastics winning the gold medal team all-around, I think many of you may remember it), I since then watched the Olympics like the Super Bowl anytime it comes on (accounting for the time zone differences) or via Youtube via NBC Sports, I just recovered from watching Simone Biles, Suni Lee, and Jordan Chiles having a blast at this year's Olympics. But yeah, I don't read or watch sports anime/manga with the exception of baseball because I'm a big baseball fan. But I always wanted to watch Dance Dance Danseur because I have a thing for ballet (I like to dance although ballet is not my style, I do find it's beauty and graceful). I wish they made more ballet anime, I could watch them like on a borderline binge.
I like to also add that I do want to watch Wave!! Let's go surfing despite the ANN review because I do like watching surfing. I also like to add that I never seen an anime based on artistic gymnastic, of all the anime that used gymnastic (Backflip!!, and Hikari No Densetsu), they're mostly rhythmic gymnastics (which is different from artistic gymnastic). I would love to see an artistic gymnastic anime being made (meaning I want to see balance beam, uneven bar, and vault being animated and being used). I also love figure skating so I would love it if Discotek or Crunchyroll can pick up Ginban Kaleidoscope if they could, I would watch it in a heartbeat. Also, I would like to see maybe a romantic pair figure skating anime since I do watch it too during the Winter Olympics. So yeah, my viewership to sports anime (& manga) are limited to whatever I mentioned above. Speaking of sports anime, I wish USA animation could make sports-based genre animation on the level like Japan and Europe (France is the only country that have made sports animation). I mean we played American Football, Basketball, and Baseball and yet we don't have American cartoon/animation centered on these like you would find in anime. I mean, I would watch a baseball-themed/genre American animation TV series like on the same level as Ace of the Diamond, Touch, or Cross-Game if they ever do that. I can say the same for graphic novel/comic book, other then Fence from Boom Studio, and 15-Love from Marvel Comic (which really need a re-print given that sports anime/manga have already catch on in the US). I don't see anything on this level from US graphic novel publisher, so that would be something DC, Marvel, IDW, etc... could do. Oh, and speaking of DC Comics, there was a time they did a short-lived sports comic in 1973-74. I would read a baseball comic/graphic novel in a heartbeat if DC, Marvel, IDW, Boom, Image, or whatever US publisher would do it and if they make a narrative/plotline on par with a Japanese baseball manga, that alone is good enough for me. So yeah, I'm happy to see sports anime/manga are getting more popular in the US/North America, but I want to see sports anime/manga to also touch on sports that hasn't been touch like artistic gymnastic, surfing, ballet, etc... Also, I want American animation and comic/graphic novels to also do sports genre including baseball so that the US publishers can be put on the same level as their Japanese counterpart, Fence and 15-Love is a good start, but I want to see a baseball animation and comic/graphic novel done by American animation studio and publishers, I would watch it and read it in a heartbeat. Heh, I've been glued to the Olympics for the past 10 days, so it's fun reading the takes on some of the craziness we've seen. Despite being a big sports fan, sports anime haven't done all that much for me historically. I think it's because watching fictional drama play out doesn't feel nearly as compelling to me as seeing the real version with actual stakes. Plus there are widely varying levels in how series do justice to their particular sports: I played tennis in high school, and I just...couldn't with Prince of Tennis. That being said, there are a few examples I've loved. Ping Pong was an absolute animation explosion, Cross Game is one of the most emotionally impactful series I've ever seen, and Sk8 the Infinity was an over-the-top blast that scratched my THPS nostalgia itch. I do want to give Birdie Wing a try, because that sounds like an absolute riot.

During the pandemic I was able to catch some of the anime shorts made for the Tokyo Paralympics; they were quite good.
I do think fandom's general aversion to sports is nearly exclusively due to their experiences in school and if you're able to decouple those feelings, you're going to have quite a fun time. If you like any sort of games, you should enjoy sports on some level. |

What, no mention of Chidori RSC, the rifle shooting anime? Admittedly they were only shooting rifle-shaped laser pointers but they had the fancy jackets similar to the ones seen on some of the rifle shooters at the olympics, so that kind of counts?
Although trying to cross a 'cute girls do cute things' anime with a sport consisting of standing very very VERY still and trying to make your laser dot go in the right place wasn't really memorable, it has to be said. |

I'm no fan of the "weak people are despicable" strain in much of Manga Morality, and the particular implementation of it in GGG's first chapter was enough to make me decide not to read more of it. I've read and enjoyed any number of WSJ manga that got axed, but good riddance to that one. |

Personally I'm hoping Blue Box gets more people interested in badminton. It was one of the few sports we played in gym class that I was slightly decent at and actively enjoyed playing, so I'd love it if it got more popularity.
And I'd say my hope isn't that unrealistic, since in Blue Box spoiler[badminton gets more of a mechanical focus on the matches than basketball does, even though both sports take a major backseat to the interpersonal relationships (even more so than the average sports series)]. |

They did mention it, though not by name. " It's why you have a billion soccer and baseball anime, but maybe two judo anime—one of which came out in the last two years." I too was surprised they didn't name either one though. @Top Gun: Have you tried Baby Steps for your tennis fix? Even if it's not exactly what you had in mind, it's a great series. |
