I have a feeling that masked person is Pan. (EDIT: Just saw that it is a another new character.)

Also, the serious guy with a gun seems kinda cool.

The way the character are drawn feel more like Toriyama's Dragon Quest rather than Dragon Ball Z. Also, I guess they are tired of Whis and Beerus considering they are focusing on the Supreme Kai who poor guy was one of the most abused gods in Dragon Ball history. Then again, his design kinda fits more unlike Kaiohsama who looks more like a master and I think we might never see him again because his actor passed away Sad

Btw, I don't understand why aren't we hearing characters talking at all in these trailers.

Could there be something happening regarding the seiyu?

Nozawa aside, I read that series could start with original seiyu voicing normal versions of their characters, then when they become little, they start being voiced by younger voice actors, who then continue voicing them when they return to their normal selves.

Apparently, Megumi Hayashibara could be the next Goku post Daima.

Hayashibara? Didn't she voice the protagonist of Danganronpa V3? It sure feels weird how nearly all of Goku's family is voiced by women and the guys are already past puberty with Goten having become a teenager in Super Hero

I feel like this is mostly due to the fact that Toriyama did more work on Dragon Quest than on Dragon Ball during the last 20 years of his life, so we see more of how his art style evolved in his DQ work. For Dragon Ball Super, he didn't need to redesign the main cast, so you don't really notice much difference. For Daima, he redesigned everyone for their new chibi looks, so the more recent art style is more apparent.

The Goku from the Broly movie already looked more slender and thin than the one from Z and Super but I didn't notice that Goku started looking like a bodybuilder until the series introduced the Kaiohken. Even against Piccolo Jr. and Raditz, Goku looked more slender like Dragon Quest but I don't know who made the Chrono Trigger animations considering Crono always looked ripped.

Let's hope Daima will succeed in both the GT & Super anime and be acclaimed as the original & Z anime in storytelling, characters, animation, themes, uncensorship, etc.
Toriyama's legacy will always live on.

Hm... still a bit skeptical on this one, to be honest. Toei stewardship over the continuing Dragon Ball universe hasn't exactly been characterized by especially compelling or engaging writing, and I kind of doubt that they'll manage to justify placing this series within the "present" of the timeline. I just cannot imagine them escaping the same power creep that's infested all of Super; are we going to wind up with a GT 2.0 that serves mainly to market a few more transformations in stories with ridiculously contrived stakes? If that's the case, I hope they at least try to design new transformations, instead of just making worse versions of old transformations with some color-swaps and superheavy CGI aura effects.

Really, though, the stated goal of refocusing the story on smaller-scale, lower-power conflicts is great... but if they really wanted to do that, wouldn't it have made more sense to just toss Daima in one of the many, many timeskips in the original manga? God knows there's plenty of room.

I think the shift in his art style is pretty clear with all of the new designs -- which are largely defined by their very simple features and thin shapes. This is especially noticeable if you compare how the Saiyans of that other universe are designed (with their tiny noodle arms) to how the saiyans were drawn in DB, from Raditz to Vegeta.

My speculation would be that, at heart, Toriyama always felt most comfortable with himself as a gag manga artist, and while he was able to masterfully evolve Dragon Ball into more of an adventure and action manga, in terms of both narrative and art, he still felt more inclined towards those gag routes, and simply reverted back to that comfort zone after finishing the manga.

In terms of the Dragon Quest association, well, I'd probably say that's because Dragon Quest tends to use chibi/SD character proportions far more often than Dragon Ball does/did.

That would mean most of the supporting cast would have to be jettisoned since Goku hasn't met most of them yet (or they haven't been born.) No Vegeta, no Piccolo (except as a bad guy) no Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Pan, Beerus, etc. I think Toriyama/Toei wanted to do lower stakes stuff without sacrificing the large cast they'd already built up over the years.

Hopefully they can commit to the low stakes thing and not just ditch it partway through the way GT did.

GT was successful in its storytelling, themes, & character writing?

First I’ve heard this

Also uncensorship?

I'm going to watch this. I still can't believe that Toriyama is really gone. Anyway, I hope this is going to be a good Dragon Ball series.

Looks fun! It would be nice to hear some of the voice acting, though.

I still wonder what will happen post Daima...

I mean, obviously Dragon Ball isn't just gonna stop, but will it continue post EoZ?

Will it be rebooted?

I hope they nail this show, especially knowing it was the last piece of Dragon Ball media Toriyama ever worked on.
