Hmm, I need to get caught up on the current manga before this comes out. I started rereading from the beginning and got sidetracked. Maybe someone will license the original anime someday as a result of this and I can watch it properly.

Well, the Kinnikuman manga took a long time to find its footing and a lot of the early stuff is messy or irrelevant, so I guess I understand why they didn't want a full remake. But it still stings.

Not that Perfect Origin is a bad arc; far from it. But most of its power comes from callbacks and pay-offs, so I don't think it'll do a good job of drawing in new fans or properly introducing Suguru's story to Westerners who only know Ultimate Muscle.

Hopefully I'm just being pessimistic, but we'll see.

Well, they could add in flashback scenes to fill in the gaps for new viewers. And we old fans get to see those classic scenes reanimated in better animation.

So, is Brocken, Jr. still a problem in bringing over the show?

The show will probably just censor the Nazi imagery he wears. It's not like he really goes out of his way to speak like a Nazi. I'm more worried about Ramenman. Again he doesn't speak stereotypically, but it's harder to change the parts of his design that could be deemed offensive.

THE granddaddy of all battle anime.

The original should be watched if you care about anime history. (if you can find it anywhere...)

Mushroom: You can find it, just not legally. Anyway, don't forget that Discotek has Ultimate Muscle.

Ouch. 2016 Berserk? At least Gundo Musashi was entertaining. How do they still get work?

Anyway, in honor of Blowme, I hope HiDive gets the show.

Partly, since Yudetamago followed Masami Kurumada's lead with Ring ni Kakero, as Kinnikuman was originally an Ultraman parody gag manga (with some wrestling aspects for flavor) before transitioning into full-on comedic battle manga.

Anyway, I'm intrigued with the reveal that this will be adapting from the revival that started in the 2010s. While I can understand some people's worries about this being tough for newcomers to get into, it sure didn't hurt Baki in recent years (or DBZ, if you want to go back to the 90s), so the only thing I'm curious about is if fans of the old Ultimate Muscle dub by 4Kids will be into seeing a new Kinnikuman anime starring the "Legends", instead of the UM/II-Sei cast that they have nostalgic feelings for.

Also, Production I.G. being the studio behind this anime is equally intriguing. Maybe Toei has too much in its 2024 pipeline already (I'm sure they already have something planned for Masami Kurumada's 50th Anniversary next year, for example) & declined to animate it. I mean, this isn't a Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas-esque situation & is technically adapting a different series, since the Kinnikuman revival has simply continued its volume numbering off of where the original run ended, & has even long surpassed it in length.

It'll be probably be toned down but not outright removed. iirc, modern Mazinger tone down Count Brocken's Nazi origins in modern stuff (like changing his crest and costume design in Infinity) or outright removed it in the case of things like Shin since Shin's a full redesign throughout.

As expected, it's an adaptation of Perfect Origin, aka where the manga should have ended.

So it will be a sequel? I thought that it will be a remake.

Fukami is also responsible for the screenplays of shows like Psycho-Pass, Heavenly Delusion.

If Production I.G goes the old-school route like what they did with the Magical Circle reboot, then this going to look great!

A note to the author of the article: the title of this anime is NOT "Kinnikuman Kanpeki Chо̄jin Shiso-hen" as mentioned in the article, but rather "Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Hen as indicated in the logo on the official website (i.e. パーフェクト・オリジン). This is an instance of kanji that are specified to be pronounced a different way than they would normally be pronounced in Japanese, which is a fairly common occurrence.
