I suppose it could be like that with any television production; if popularity wains in the initial market, they'll start to cut out production at whatever cost that might be. Sometimes, that means its inconclusive, sadly.

never seen those series but usualy it's because the show wasn't popular enough or making enough money or the manga stopped there are so many reasons. Western shows do the same thing so it's a bit of a waste of time to winge just because a show you happened to like got cancelled. Also some shows purposely leave the end open in order to encourage the use of imagination. In my experience the tendency to drop shows flat is not any more prevelant in Anime than in any other format. I think you are just experiencing sour grapes.

Ladies vs Butlers only finished up last season, and Nyankoi a couple seasons ago, hardley that long ago. There can only be so many series done at once, and they like to leave series open so that they might have the chance to continue it at some point. And there are so many things that go into getting another season, Haruhi which was very popular took 3 years for a "second season", and there is plenty of source material aswell.

i saw Ladies vs Butlers as well, and the ending was one that could either have been the actual end, or possibly signal more.
Something tells me this will probably get an ova to test the waters for a second season. Kinda too early to tell.
Yeah, i know, tell Baka to Test that...

The answer is pretty simple: they leave the shows open-ended because they hope to make more of it, but they don't make more because they haven't either found the profits to be worth it or haven't got around to it yet.
Also, could you try to use punctuation and capitalization in the future? Doing so would make it appear like you're literate.

Didn't Nyan Koi end with comments about having a second season? To which the characters said "What the hell does that mean? Seasons?"

Almost all adaptation anime, ALL, unless they're adapted a completed work (and even then), tend to have open endings for the ease of possibly making a second season, assuming the sales of the DVD were high enough. If the sales weren't, no more of that anime, if they were, more. It doesn't matter if a story is incomplete or not, we have several amazing anime adaptations that will never see more produced: like Berserk, Twelve Kingdoms, or Zipang.

Elf Princess Rane ended with a trailer for the 3rd OVA that may or may not of been a joke- sometimes it just doesn't happen.
That said, I know Kamen no Maid Guy and NyanKoi are also manga, so the story does continue- in NyanKoi's case, CMX will be releasing it in english, so it should be easy to check that out when the time comes to follow past the anime.

Some things just don't have ends, for various reasons (like being cancelled). For examples see anything aired on Fox in the US.
For anime based on manga/novels that are ongoing you have a choice to do an original ending, insert filler, or put the series on hiatus while you wait for the original material to catch up.
Sometimes you just have an open ending. If you've ever compared the american remakes of J-horror films like the Ring, the Grudge, Kairo/Pulse etc. you'll realise that stories in Japan often don't spell out everything and sometimes the interpretation and comclusion is intended to be up to you rather than spelt out.

As much as I'd like to deny the truth of this statement. . . (thinks back to Dark Angel and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)
Oh, and let's make an effort to actually use proper grammar and capitalization, people. It's expected by forum standards. (This is mostly directed towards pardill88 and PaniPoni61.)

My hurt dates back to VR.5 (which not only ended on a cliffhanger isn't even available on DVD to my knowledge), but there's also Firefly, Tru Calling...

And Firefly, Arrested Development, Drive, Firefly, Family Guy (twice canceled, I think), Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., Firefly, Futurama.....

This is possibly the most misleading thread title I've seen in a while. Not what I expected when I clicked, that's for sure!
As a token reply to the OP though, open endings occur in a lot of fiction, in various media, not just anime. I agree it can be frustrating, as I get riled everytime there's an unresolved romance plot (either they don't get together, a triangle is left open) because I'm a sucker for romance. That said, some of the more powerful endings can be open, and encouraging the viewer to use their imagination is never a bad thing.
