Somewhere in Canada, Christopher Macdonald has shed a tear.

I'm a little sad also.
Also of note it's the 20th not the 18th volume that will be published in January. http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?product_id=8282 |

Didn't even know that this project was even considered. Didn't even know that the manga was even being published here. And sadly I've never had the chance to see what this series was ever about.

I've long considered this a fact. There was no update for quite a while on this. The series is fun to watch but making it into a MMORPG might have been quite a chore. Players would want the chance to see and/or interact with Dark Schneider, which could only end one of two ways. If your a guy, he kills you as your competition. If your a girl, he expects you to fall to his feet and worship him.
Pretty much its about a evil wizard (with unlimited power), who is revived to save a major kingdom. Though he helps them, he has no problem continuing his plan to rule the world. Usually he was fighting his old comrades spoiler[ (and they slowly rejoin him)]. Later on in the manga, Angels (not Eva Angels) descend to deliver divine retribution to the world for being evil, and it really starts to quote the Book of Revelations. While that may seem over the top, IT IS and it only gets worse. As long as you go into this expecting that and only looking for nonsensical plot, nudity, action, MANY heavy metal references ('explosive wall of guns and roses'), and just a general good time, you'll enjoy the manga. It is actually one of my favorites. |

I love Bastard!! but I do think it falls into that it's so bad it's good catagory. I think the art, especially in the more recent volumes is honestly fantastic. The story on the hand is just "redonkulous" but some how it's really enjoyable and is full of fun characters.
As for the MMO there are trailers up for it on youtube, which look pretty rocking. To bad it's been canned. The anime also came out in the U.S. on VHS and DVD. It was from Genon so it might be a bit hard to find now but I can't imagine to hard. I recomend checking out the manga tough, it's a lot of fun. |

Thanks for the info. Roguespider.
I am familiar with the character but never had the chance to watch it. I'd been curious for a long time (as I enjoy many old 80's/ 90's anime) about this series. All I knew about it was "word of mouth" from veteran anime fans. It's not going to be easy to track down this feature to watch. Netflix doesn't have any copies to rent. I hope to see this title make a comeback. It didn't dawn on me until years later that the creator for 'Bastard' was also responsible for 'Combustible Campus Guardress'. Finally got a chance to finish it. I would have loved to have had a chance to own that series. I love over the top stuff. It's the stuff that makes anime what it is. |
