Ah! My Goddess: The Movie |
Excellent |
This was an excellent movie. I'm not a big fan of the series but I do love it. The OVAs were my first step that got me intouch with the series. I really enjoyed this movie. It just goes to show you the "true love" that has developed between Belldandy and Keiichi goes farther than you think. I'm waiting for this series to end with those 2 finally getting married and ruling over the 'heavens'. |
Air Master (TV) |
Very good |
Highly enjoyed this series! Loved it better than Ikkitousen. This one is going on my shelves very soon! It may not be perfect in story but it has enough depth and the fighting was what drew me in. That and having a strong female character. As strong female character is always what brings me to a show. |

First time I saw it was in the raw after Xmas break. And I got a headache. But all you need to know is that this film is excellent and still holds up to this day. It's going to be looked upon for years to come. |

All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku (OAV) |
Very good |
I found this series to be highly entertaining. After all everyone would love to have a friend like 'Nuku-Nuku' wouldn't they? The first half of the OVAs introduces the story a bit while the second half is more side story humor. All equally entertaining. And all the boy wants is for his parents to be together, but hell they got the most odd love/hate relationship ever. The crazy cat-girl that grabbed fans everywhere. You can't miss out Nuku-Nuku. While I've never seen 'Dash', I like this installment better. |
Amon - Apocalypse of Devilman (OAV) |
Decent |
It felt almost like centuries when this installment finally came out. Mind you this was a change from the original designs. Again continuing the story with as much violence as possible. Mind you feel left with questions. To me this was one movie that I felt could've been left on the cutting room floor. |
Angel Blade (OAV) |
Decent |
What happens when combine the guy who animated 'Gowkaiser' with the god manga-ka of horrow you get 'Angel Blade'. If you seen it and all of a sudden you found 'Cutey Honey' and 'Kekko Kamen' then you hit the nail on the head. While it has it's own original story filled with lusty desires and pushes the hentai meter to the top you can't help but see the homage. This is one of the shows that if you're looking for action in a adult flick this might tickle your fancy. Don't expect this show to follow through on a story. It has one but don't expect anything too deep. I've read comments where people were not fond of all the ahem..."action". Mind you, despite the humor (which is even hard for me to believe), super sized mammaries, asses and poon*** shots this is a very hardcore feature that delves into as many twisted fetishes that it can show in the span of 3 eps. Call it "hentai soup". The one thing that the series doesn't lack is a budget. This title was handled with much TLC. But again not to be taken seriously. After all who the hell takes porn seriously. While not for everyone it's an eye opener that is if you can sit through the madness. I think the little bit of suspense and story telling was what kept me going. As well, as the homage elements. There was an extra feature at the end of vol. 3 (Jap. region 2) DVD. This small segment was a follow-up of what happen to 'Moena' at the end vol. 2. This was only released in the directors cut edition. Which was released sometime after. There were many supposed scenes that probably didn't make it into the final product. Not to mention our releases. Who knows maybe one day, they'll re-release the series here remastered and uncut. I say this because if anyone knows the story behind the 'AB' releases then they'd understand why. |
Angel Blade Punish! (OAV) |
Decent |
The saga continues, this time with another 'Angel' packing heat. As for the bad guys well they're still around in all their lusting glory. Our heroes are on the lamb and 'Moena' is having a little trouble with her powers. The sexcapades still continue but storywise, its like digging a hole hoping to find something and you come up with a dog bone. You feel like something important is going to be told but then when you get to that point you ask, "and... and... and...?" Nobody ever figured the identity of Angel Bullet' . And stuff started happening without knowing how you got there. Either it's bad editing or stuff left out for whatever reason. Just when we finally get to the end they throw in the deal that there's still more to do. Now the question is will 'Masami Obari' continue or is that a wrap? There's still unfinished business and stuff that still left unexplained. Who's the old man? Pappy? You're left wanting to know more. That is if you're a fan and you actually enjoyed the flick. Again the budget was still maintained for this 3-parter. Now the question is..."is this it or will there be more?" To be honest I was to some degree getting into this.

Anyone You Can Do... I Can Do Better! (OAV) |

Another interesting title from the Vanilla series. The plot if at all is typical porn fare. Guy finds himself sexually involved with a busty classmate and her overly busty and sexually repressed mother. Sex ensues out of the blue. He likes doing them both and they like competing to see who can get laid the best. Aside from your typical mom and daughter disputes they find that they can find some common ground despite the age gap. That they have big boobs and that they like to fuck. You can learn a lot from yo' mama. Which goes to show that family love is stronger than anything you can get out of some guy you brought home. Which leaves the guy nothing more than a toy for their amusement when they feel the urge. It just goes to show you women have more power over men. Or the fact that too much can be dangerous to your health. The 2 episodes features the worst animation. Not even worst more like lazy. You want worst watch 'Sins of the Stepmother'. This series should have won an award for best repetition and swapping of bodies. Not to mention backgrounds so even that it screams "computer". Just check out the furniture. Something like this is best for a anthology of sorts. This way you can have a variety of bad and good for your amusement. This DVD ought to be slapped for even expecting someone to pay their hard earned cash to pay for such drek. The sad thing is that it was released in 2 vols. in Japan. |

Arion (movie) |
Very good |
While I can comment that I saw this film, I can't give a thorough plot. This is one of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's early works aside from being the character designer for the original 'Mobile Suit Gundam'. While this feature has never seen the light of day here except through trades in the "raw" it's still worth seeing. It's a story about a boy named Arion who, while inheriting powers of his own challenges the god's of Olympus to save a mysterious girl named Lesfeena. Yes, long before 'Venus Wars' did we see much of this creator. Hopefully, one day someone will release it. |
Armitage III (OAV) |
Very good |
Finally after years of waiting fans finally got what they wanted. All 4 complete OVAs subtitled. Unlike the movie which is basically all 4 movies spliced and edited together to make one long feature. Though it has been years since I saw the 'Armitage III' movie. While they may seem the same the difference is between the 2. The movie is shorter than all 4 of the OVAs. Now this I want to get this for myself. |
Armitage III: Poly-Matrix (movie) |
Decent |
I saw this first many years ago when 'Pioneer' (now Pioneer/Geneon) was first starting out in the busness of handling domestic anime. And the 'Armitage' series was one of the early titles they presented. I originally saw this dubbed, because that's the way it was presented. The dub featured top actors to voice the main leads. Kiefer Sutherland (Lost Boys) and Elizabeth Berkely ('Saved by the Bell', 'Showgirls'). While the acting was rather wooden I still enjoyed this film immensely. However I never knew if I ever wanted to own it at that time. I did know that in time I would want to see the Japanese version whenever that came about. And of course the music was kick-a**! |
Armitage: Dual-Matrix (movie) |
Decent |
See this is what's called, "we-need-a-new-show-hey-let's-make-sequel-to-an-existing-title-ne?"
I didn't care too much for this installment. The first one was great all by itself. Which is why it didn't need a sequel. All this film did was feature some of the worst CG animation. Talk about lazy car chases! And what's worst the other characters Ross and his daughter are just laying in the background. While there were some things in the feature that I liked, there were others that I didn't care for because they didn't make the film any better. |

BAOH (OAV) |
Good |
I saw this film way back when. Based off the manga of the same title we get a feature that just sums up the story that is 'Baoh'. For it's time, the animation is good and the music ok for it's time, but it's still a little gem for those collecting vintage stuff or are curious to see the titles of late 80's. For those that have never seen the manga, which was published here by ???, years ago, you would be in for a treat of the most hideous artwork. Very violent and visceral while at the same time featuring some bad anatomy. But just because you don't necessarily know where to put your bicep doesn't mean the story is bad. The storytelling is very action oriented and highly detailed. At the time 'Baoh' was one of my most sought after titles way back when. But again it's worth a view. |
Barefoot Gen (movie) |
Masterpiece |
It may not have the same animation quality as 'Grave of the fireflies', but sometimes a movie doesn't have to gettiing it's point accross. Sometimes simplicity works best. This film is a very accurate view concerning the Hiroshima bombing. Mind you this film despite it's age portrays very bold and disturbing images. It is not for younger children to see. It's a tear jerker for sure. But all and all it's an excellent film. But not for everyone. |

Beast City (OAV) |
Not really good |
At first when I heard of this title, my first reaction was why is it called 'Beast City', considering that years ago 'Wicked City' was also called 'Beast City' as an alternate title. That was during a time when anime fans were still trying figure out titles. Actually it was also called, 'Supernatural Beast City'. But neither feature bears any relation to the other. This one is an adult title of the utmost proportions and written by a woman at that. According to a fansite reviews such titles ("hentai" in nature), this one was regarded as sort of a female version of 'Urotsukidoji' (Legend of the Overfiend). While this title is very adult in it's wake it does have a fairly decent storyline. Not mention comedy as well. Some it it ranging from outright funny to downright amusing. Such as when Madonna's vampire sister decide to attend school. They don't realize that they are walking into a religious school and try to blow the cross off the roof. Next thing you know they are in school as if nothing happened. Another sick joke that pops often in the world of vampires is that if you're on the "rag" you're still on a vampiress' menu. Smiling vibrators that render you sexually senseless and apologies being written using a calligraphy brush and the female anatomy while getting whipped. And not in a pleasurable way mind you. And while it is slightly different from 'Urotsukidoji', you can see the similarities:
Urotsukidoji: Boy destined to be the overfiend.
Beast City: Vampire Madonna and company realize that boy who's semen they just fed on makes him "special".
Urotsukidoji: Boy has a an interest in one particular girl, raging hormones.
Beast City: Boy has raging hormones and is interested in every "skirt" that walks by. Too stupid to realize childfriend wants to be his provided he grows up!
Urotsukidoji: Boy and girl are befriended and accompanied by 3 demon friends (actually 2 but I do count the little demon creature that sits on Megumi's shoulder).
Beast City: Boy and girl are befriended and accompanied by 3 female vampires.
Urotsukidoji: Evil forces at work trying to make choujin appear.
Beast City: Evil forces at work trying to make boy's hidden power awaken.
Urotsukidoji: Boy and girl have sex after a terrible encounter on her behalf thus causing the "choujin" to awaken causing him to turn into a giant creature thus reeking havok on the city.
Beast City: Boy and girl have sex after terrible encounter on his behalf thus causing him to later change into a giant monster thus reeking havok on the city.
So you see it's pretty similar. But if you're into adult titles give this one a whirl you might find it enjoyable. |

Still one of my all time favorites. This was my very first 'Shirow' flick. I watched this title back in H.S. when it came out. Of course I was only able to get it from fans that acquired it from someone else. While, not the greatest it's the one film that he directed. This film to me still holds up today. I've never got tired of ever watching this film, even now. When I first watched this film I felt like there was a combination of 'Terminator'. It be funny if someone decided they wanted to redo this film like they did his other films. For those unfamiliar with the manga called 'Black Magic' is very different in story compared to it's OVA counterpart. While dated, if you're someone that doesn't care much about that then pick it up and give it a whirl. If you're a 'Shirow' fan, then grab it for your shelf. |

But if you're a fan of giant robot shows than 'GGG' of the 'Brave' saga is for you! With character designs by 'Takahiro Kimura' of the 'Advanced Variable Geo' series, 'Betterman', 'GGG Fina' and 'Shinkon Gattai Godannar' fame. Very first Miyazaki flick I ever saw. While I rated the sub, the first time I saw this flick was dubbed. But this was the old 'Streamline Productions' dub. At the time I liked it. After a few years and finally seeing it raw and subbed, I found that the old dub was closer to the original sub as it could get. I hated the Disney dub version. I dkdn't even get far. But all in all this is any excellent feature that still holds up to this day and age. A very compelling story. A must see! Whether you're a a Miyazaki fan or not. |

Ok, this is vintage stuff and the animation is very dated it's still enjoyable if anything laughable. It's the first animated version of this series. Please keep in mind that this installment is VERY 'shounen'. And kids were watching this! Cutey Honey is NOT or was ever considered a series that fell into the genre of 'Magical Girls'. That's what 'Flash' is for. But hey maybe she was a magical girl for all the young boys out there. Who knows? There is enough crazy humor in this series. Not mention great 70's music. This is the one series I ever enjoyed by the great godfather and creator that is 'Go Nagai'. |
Cutie Honey (live-action movie) |
Decent |
Ok, I never thought that they would go this far, but hey gotta keep fans interested. First off I like 'Cutey Honey' and 2nd, I will watch almost every incarnation of the show. So I watched this one. It was enjoyable nonetheless. But mind you it's a different re-telling of the original series. But still keeps some elements true to the original. However the ending wasn't what I expected it to be. Not to mention the majority of the female villains being played by male leads. Talk about 'men in drag'. But there are some females playing villains. Oh, and I love Natsuko aka "Nat-chan'. A very up tight and upholder of law and order. But the show does try to deliver humor in a 'Cutey Honeyesque' way. But all an all it's worth a look. It's both cheesy and funny. |

Ok, here's a title that is somewhat obscure. Based off the manga series by Shotaro Harada comes a story of unusual proportions. While it may not appeal to everyone it's worth a look. 24 episodes running at 7 mins. each. The first 12 episodes are funny as all hell, but after that the funny business stops. For those who have never read the manga, the series ran 4 volumes. The story is very different and if anything action oriented and depressing even with humor thrown in here and there. It's worth a look. |

But in some ways it probably does considering that it was created by the same guy that did 'Wicked City'. While dated like 'Wicked City', it's still a very beautifuly animated film. Again I love the dark lines and the Asian-esque stylization. Most of his designs are very similar to another fashion artist who also used light skin tones and deep blacks. |

Another title buy Vanilla. I watched this series after 'AYCD..ICDB'. I have to admit that despite the premise of this story it was somewhat intriguiging. Meaning there was somewhat of a story despite it being a hentai title. Maybe because it came off somewhat dramatic. The story of a young man named John who is called to live with his grandfather after the death of his father. Oh and he brings his father's new wife with him. Who just happens to look just like his deceased mother. WOW, how convenient. We already know what's coming folks, and we don't even have to spell it out. As both his mother and his stepmother are known for their GIGA-BOOBS. Yes, they would make Mr. Nishimaki proud. Both are possible candidates to inherit the estate. However John has family there already who don't take kindly to outsiders coming in. So he and his stepmother must ride out their hardships living separate on the property. It's the Oedipus complex in a nutshell. As John becomes close to his stepmother by trying to make her see that they can be intimately involved as they aren't blood related. But she feels that it's wrong to think that way because she IS his mother. But gee isn't that the real reason he's attracted to her and not because she's a beautiful barrel breasted soul who looks like his mother? And this deal continues as day after day as Jean keeps his virtues for his stepmother while being sexually commanded by the other ladies of the house. The story of course is set in classic times. When you had horse carriages, frilly clothes and huge mansions. This one's animation is a little better that is to say, it's better than 'Anyone You can do..." but the repetitive scenes are still around. Only this time you're getting a eyeful in a very big way. I was kind of drawn in on this one. Maybe because of the economic and social strife John and his stepmother were having just to gain an inheritance. Only for her to turn into a sex freak later. Poor Sylvia, I guess she finally cracked. Yeah, it has enough to make it somewhat entertaining but again it's hentai. And most people don't always come for the story as there wasn't much of one. The ending baffled me. |

Elfen Lied (TV) |

While the story seems to still be going in the manga, the anime proved to be worth watching even if I hadn't read it. But of course they wanted to do an anime just to do one even if the story wasn't finished. I'll say one thing this show is very depressing, startlling and disturbing. It just goes to show you what goes on in the hearts of people. I can see why this show was aired in the late night blocks. Not so much for the violence but for the content dealing with some very touchy issues. The review in April's Newtype USA, said that this was one show that can really throw you a curve ball. One minute you're watching cutesy anime and the next minute people are being ripped to shreds with wanton abandon. It is one of the most unsual animes. Out of the many that I've seen this one does it in a way that no one would have expected. It's like hitting yourself and asking if you're watching the same show. Romance, horror. |
Elfen Lied (OAV) |
Very good |
There really isn't much to say about this OVA other than it's a side story to the 'Elfen Lied' TV series. Originally titled episode 14, this little extra is sort of side story that takes place between episodes 10 and 11. This little story focuses on both Nana and Lucy/Nyuu. We get to see how Nana struggles to fit into the family that 'Kouta' has constructed. Not to mention relate with Lucy/Nyuu, a diclonius like her that she was originally supposed to kill. We see how Nana tries to relate to her rival and how a relationship forms between the two. We also get another glimpse into Lucy/Nyuu's past, again more tradgedy strikes and she finds herself at the mercy of those trying to bring her into custody. Adding more fuel to the *fire within her. This is truly a depressing show. But it has it's lighter moments as well too. This one puts more comedy light on Nana. But watching someone lose control of their prosthetic limbs is anything but funny. This show can really create mixed feelings. All the while throwing blood in your face. But it definitely fits into the series.
Unfortunately I can't really rate it "excellent" because it's a stand alone episode. |

My curiousity got to me so I decided to watch a series of the shounen-ai element. This was my first. It was a very interesting I must say. But hell everyone in that show was hot for somebody. And the only guy doing the thinking is the one trying to stay out of bed. I have to admit the story as interesting, but of course the manga are better. I'm not really crazy about the artstyle of BL stories which are drawn entirely by women. In fact I don't read them at all. I pretty much liked the style used in the anime. They looked a little less "pretty". But all in all I enjoyed the story and laughed a bit. |
Fight! Iczer-One (OAV) |

This was my 3rd OVA feature that I had viewed back when anime was traded and watched in the "raw". It was one series that drove me insane. I would watch this series over and over again trying to figure out the plot. I remember seeing the main character 'Iczer-1' featured in an 1986 issue of 'Out' magazine. The character was interesting to me considering my interest. After that, about a month or two later I was watcing the first episode in the raw at a anime club. I was drawn in. It was my first time experiencing having to wait for the rest. For each year following I watched the last film and it answered my questions even though it was still in the raw. Even today, I was still seeking a translation. LOL! The only thing I hated about this series was the 'Special ED'. They tried to tie in all the OVAs into a movie by adding extra animation in between certain segments and rearranged some scene segments. As if to tell you from the beginning "this is what happened! Now insert first OVA!" Even the music was revamped and it sounded bad. The original 3-part OVA shown in it's respective years is the better deal. The story was very simple. I still enjoy this flick even today. It's dated but it's still worth checking out. To me the series was like my first anime ever watched. And after reading an article in 'Newtype USA' on AIC's studio, 'Iczer-I' was the first title ever produced that started the whole OVA revolution. |

This is my 2nd robot show series that I ever watched from beginning to end. All 49 episodes worth. I found such love in this show. Not everyone will like it, but if you like shows of the "brave saga" you will like BKGG. With character designs by Takahiro Kimura (Variable Geo series, both video game and anime, GGG Final, Betterman, Dirty Pair Flash, Brigadoon, and Shinkon Gattai Godannar). It's flashy, campy Sunrise stuff. |

Ok, it's probably not the greatest series but it's interesting to watch. Not to mention some of the most awkward character designs if anything ugly. Based on the popular manga of same title is the story of a young woman who works 2 completely different jobs. On one hand she's a spirit medium on the other she works as an S&M queen. It doesn't come any more odd than that. Considering the nature of this series which has some serious moments, not to mention very mature themes there is a bit of comedy thrown in. Which can throw it's viewers. In the first episode we have an "attempted rape" scene. I say "attempted", not actual rape scene like many blogs and reviewers made it out to be. It's not enough to classify it as a "hentai" title. But the scene alone is unsettling. But this is the only scene and nothing more happens. But before this we have a bit of comedy. And this is the pacing of this show. Most of the comedy revolves around the main character Misaki. Usually, dealing with her sour behavior and her interesting lifestyle. With some fanservice thrown in. Nothing like seeing the main character wearing"skanky" attire. Fighting against yakuza thugs and unruly spirits wearing her S&M attire with a supernatural "leg lace" named 'Kimu'. The show is bizarre. Aside from that it's an interesting show. Mainly because you get to see how the main character struggles with her inner abilities. The soundtrack is ok, nothing spectacular but it works. I guess they really wanted to just get the feature out. This show won't be for everyone but it's worth a look. Having been mentioned in an older issue of Newtype USA, it peaked my interest. After seeing 2 eps. fansubbed I was hooked. Now being released in the states under the name change 'Ghost Talker Daydream' I now have the chance of finishing this short series. Also, be sure to check out the manga series when it becomes available. |

Girl Next Door (OAV) |

Ok, I watched this one last night. I had to finally see it for myself just to see the clips that were being thrown around on YouTube. We've come a long way now. This was the most zany hentai I've even saw. Despite the explicit sex it's still downright cartoony. The plot reminds me of a version of 'Love Hina' gone terribly wrong. A guy can't remember the face of a girl that helped him as a child. Mind you if it was an older girl that helped him as a child wouldn't she be a woman by now. Considering that she looked like a woman when he saw her. But he's set on saving his virginity until her finds the girl of his dreams. Of course the doesn't happen. While he doesn't perform actual penetration per se. More than enough females throughout the show manage to grab his manhood and WORK IT! Yet no matter how much has spewed forth from his loins he's still persistant to keep his virginity until her finds the "mysterious girl" that has stolen his heart. At least the guy in 'I Dream of Mimi' understood that you can lose your virginity giving up "active molecules" in the first 10 seconds of opening a box that you thought had a computer in it. Mind you we do figure out who the girl is but and it's time to make love by the fire and prove that even nice quiet and sickly girls can talk dirty when the moment arises. While the flick tries some good ideas for a story they get thrown out the window quick. Let alone the animation. Which wants to be who knows what. While I could have almost felt something for the newfound couple I couldn't because of how "rushed" things were toward the end. I never had the opportunity to experience such a feature where you felt you were getting into something and it rushed to get out the door. Well, I guess that's a little better but not by much. The title is amusing if you can call it that. You have to admit the dialog is pretty funny. "Hurry and rape me quick! Rape me like a madman!' Yeeeee...ah. Again another title from the Vanilla Series. Maybe I'll go home and watch the final sex scene and see if it does anything for me. |

Saw this listed but wasn't interested. Finally got a chance to see it, didn't think I would get into it after watching 'Madlax'. But after diving in I came to enjoy it! Mind you it does have some ridiculous moments nonetheless, but entertaining. Lot's of action and I do mean lots! Not to mention some off the wall "physics". The main character's pilgrimage which is the foundation for the show makes it worth watching just to see how it comes into play. Another funny thing I realized about the show, considering the heroine's bustiness, which the creators are responsible for could have easily given viewers the impression that the series would end up becoming one of "THOSE" types of animes. But for some odd reason, it doesn't even come off that way, which is really surprising. Though it does have it's moments. I would have expected the creators to go crazy on this one. That's what kept me going with the show. I will be adding this to my shelf list too. It's worth a look if nothing else. |

I love this show! Very creative but depressing at the same time. A show about young girls trying to cope with the new lives that they are given. You get to look into how each one reacts with their trainer. In some ways some could find the relationship somewhat bothersome due to the fact that these young girls are placed in the care grown men. One can look at it that way, but the show is not portrayed in that light but again due to the nature of the characters and their involvement with one another, one can't help but wonder. But it is a very tragic storyline. My only problem with the series is that I would have liked to have seen a little more depth on some of the the other girls. The song the 'Light before we Land' by the 'Delgados', is an excellent choice for the series opening. |

I have to say that I did enjoy this version of the series. I will say that it is somewhat different from the OVAs. But all in all still enjoyable to those that enjoy the series and have watched both shows. |

And alternate version of the same title. This installment is adapted from the manga. This version of the series contains many similaries that the OVA had, but the differences are with the plot and the character designs. As well as a few new additions to the cats. The ecchiness is still present but the story does get dramatic toward the end. Much of which revolves around the head maid 'Muriel'. Though there are still some things that don't get resolved. I can only wonder if the manga covers this. |

InuYasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass |
Very good |
Watched this feature right after the first movie. I enjoyed this one as well, however this one was a bit more slower in pace. Even though the first movie and this one were the same length I could tell that the 2nd feature was a little slower. This feature definitely concentrated on storytelling this time. So most of the action was strewn throughout, but most of it came toward the end. That was when I had wondered when the film was going to be over. Which goes to show you they gave their fans something to sit through this time. But all in all it was a very good movie. The most touching moments that touched me was when Sango tends to her brother Kohaku's wounds and they share a tender moment in there reunion. You could see the joy but you could also see the sadness in Sango. Her brother hadn't retained his memory, but she was more relieved that they were together. The other was when Kagome was trying to reach Inu Yasha from Kaguya's grasp. You can tell that despite his brashness that he cares a great deal for Kagome, he's just still uncertain of what he's supposed to deal with it. But he does know he just keeps it hidden.
Great series. I'll be awaiting Inu Yasha movie 3. |
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time |
Very good |
Ok, I have to say that I enjoyed this flick! Though I've never watched the entire series, I managed to catch the first 4 episodes, plus did a little researching to put me up to speed. Mind you if you've never seen the series before you may get stumped just jumping into the movies. Luckily the movies, give you some "introductory notes" to get you accquainted with the characters. It's not like 'Tenchi' where you are required to at least watch some of the OVAs to get an idea about the show's background. Inu Yasha's story follows a pretty standard formula. So the movies are really like side-stories placed in between our heroes normal quest. Fans of the show should be able to chronologically place movies according to the series of events in the TV series.
This feature was very fast paced. The action and animation was dead on! |

Didn't expect myself to enjoy this sequel to the series, but it managed to grow enough on me to find it worthy of being a sequel. Mainly because 1) where does the sequel take you, 2) the style changed a bit and 3) not crazy about the amount of CGI that pops up. But I think they were definitely on a budget. Would I like the sequel as much as the first?
Following in it's predecesor's path of being comical and heartfelt storywise. Not to mention Akitaro Daichi does it again giving you an ending totally unexpected.
This will definitely being going on my shelf. |

My first Akitaro Daichi flick seen awhile back on fansub. I immediately fell in love with it as my jaw dropped to the floor on the action and my sides split from the "craziness" that is 'Jubei-chan'. Even with the sequel, the first still ranks the best in my book. |

Though I had never seen 'Kimba' I definitely wanted to see this film, which is a remake of the one directed by Tezuka back in 1966. While both are different I still wanted to see this film. Of course it didn't dawn on me until later that this was the movie to end the 'Leo/Kimba' legacy. Some of which was taken from the manga. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this film deeply. Funny thing is that after watching it, I noticed a lot of similarities in this film with the original and Disney's 'Lion King'. Of course while folks are arguing of "who-bit-who" based on this film, they failed to realize that the original series existed in writting format back in the late 50's to early 60's, spawning several animated adaptions some years later during that time. The 'Lion King' wouldn't have been a hit if they didn't "bite" something GOOD! Anime fans should check out this series whenever they get the chance. |
Junkers Come Here (movie) |
Excellent |
I really enjoyed this film. It's not a Ghibli flick but it's worthy sitting with his films, while standing on it's own. While somewhat overlooked this film does deliver. It's a slice a life movie about a child dealing with the possible separation of her parents. This is every childs worse nightmare. It's also a very touchy topic in Japan society as well. It's a film that teaches us, especially parents to listen and pay attention to our children, that sometimes what they show us is not always what it seems especially if something is not right in the family. Definitely worth seeing. |

Ok, this is my second shonen-ai flick. Not quite like 'Fake', but similar in character design. You have Enjoji a dark blonde guy who basically is star and his lover the raven haired Ranmaru. And he does have an aggressive nature similar to 'Dee (FAKE), but less comical. The difference between them vs the guys from 'Fake', is that they DO have something going on. And while there is some comedy in the show it's very light. Even the sex. Compared to 'Legend of the Blue Wolves'. Out of this series I guess my enjoyment would come in the last segment. When your lover is a big tough-looking bodyguard with the heart of a teddybear. I thought this was the most endearing episode. The manga is a little more explicit and their is more depth to the story. |

Talk about loving all the girls and still keeping a promise. I have to say I enjoyed this title. In a way it reminded me of 'Spaceship Agga Ruter'. It's about a regular sheepherder named Cain who come across an interesting turn of fate when one of his sheep wanders off. He finds a fairy in the process, saves a princess, given title of lord and like all fantasy tales is promised the hand of this princess ON ONE condition... to make a name for himself. IN 5 YEARS! In the span of 4 episodes you'll come across some really zany things. Sometimes downright whacky. The colors are bright, and the characters are not not the most appealing. It takes getting used to. Some may be put off by this. Not to mention some key comedy moments. But wait isn't this supposed to be an adult title? Well, it is and as it does have a good amount of explicit sex. Aside from one torture/rape scene involving one of the characters, the other sex scenes lean more toward a romantic aspect as it serves to provide a look into each of the female characters psyches. Cain's sexual relations with each of the girls is more along the lines of pleasuring them with passionate sensitivity as opposed to pleasuring his own needs. All the while trying to be a decent lord to the people. It's because of his kindness and sensitivity that causes them to flock and be set free. Literally. Despite doing all this he still has to fulfill the promise to Princess Charlotte. If only she knew what he was doing. But I guess men don't have to be virtuous like women do. Gotta sow your oats now before marriage. The characters are well thought out each with their own backgrounds. You got Princess Charlotte who is rooting for Cain, you have slave girl turned maid who can't cook, a samurai who has a very penchant for revenge, a female bandit leader, and lastly Chiffon an elven wizard acting as advisor to Cain with a deep sad past that pretty much everyone who saw it could say one world. Hot Nake Elf Sex'. While I won't say that I'll say that I was moved by the whole ordeal. I realized that this title seemed more story driven as each character played a role that worked in Cain's favor. Spanning only 4 episodes it has a simple beginning and gets right down to the end without to many complications in the plot. Again being a adult title one can't expect too much. The important thing is that a feature of such can sum up what it wants to say. It also has a very cute ending. Like I said, it reminds me of 'Agga Ruter' in the sense that with 'Taiyo', he plows through all the girls as well all in his innocence and winning them over. The title 'Mei King', I've noticed that how it's spelled, many often put the words together and sometimes separate. The original wording is 'Mei- King' in hiragana, with the spacing. But in English it's 'MeiKing'. The meaning "mei" was left in hiragana as it has an open meaning depending on which "kanji" could be used. Like most Japanese titles, their meanings are either left intact or changed because they don't translate well. "MeiKing", what the hell does that mean, and why is it spelled this way? Well, I looked it up and found several meanings, but 2 stood out. The first meaning of "mei" is "command", "decree" or "destiny" or "fated". The other meaning is "great" or "famous" as in a honorific title. I think these 2 definitions rather sum up 'Cain' at best. Destined for greatness and succeeding to fame. |

Ok, first off I would like to say, THIS SHOW IT AS FUNNY AS ALL HELL!! And to quote someone at Gainax,
"Did they think that they could put stuff like this on TV and get away with it?"
Well, they did. And to think that this was written by a woman. Well, who to better talk about relationships than women right? And poor Ebichu gets no respect. But that's what happens when you have a hamster brain that's a little more evolved than your typical hamster brain. But to quote 'Ebichu',
"It's hard living a honest life."
Because her honesty just get's her in trouble. Hey, maybe if she lived with Maa-kun she's be *treated a whole lot better'. But let's not go there. Considering his obsession of 'Ebichu'. The show is totally off the wall. The animations are simple but the show is heavily "mature". THIS IS NOT FOR KIDS! THIS AIN'T YO' MAMA'S HAMTARO! |

Outlanders (OAV) |
Decent |
This was my 2nd OVA feature that I had viewed back when anime was traded and watched in the "raw". Viewing provided by early anime clubs. I remember watching this feature many many times back then. And I will view it one more time when I purchase it for myself. However looking back on it after so many years (from past to present) of watching how anime has evolved over the years, I can see the problems with feature. There was way too much background omitted for it to seem like a "one-shot". For those familiar with full manga series know how much of the story was changed to the point of it practically being non-existent in the OVA. The only thing they concentrated on was the "boy-meets-girl" concept. Outlanders was nowhere near being a romance story. The relationship between Karm and Tetsuya was a small part of a bigger picture. A very intricately woven story of war and pathos. This was the first feature that introduced me to Johji Manabe. But again this feature is not so bad, just mediocre for it's time. Fans of today might not care much for it because it's "dated". But don't judge it too harshly. When this feature was created OVAs (anime straight to video) were a new concept, so trying to pick a new title to animate creates an interest and possible business. Plus, the idea of budget limitations to produce a full series in high quality is always considered as well. Not to mention when this feature was done the manga probably wasn't even finished being written. Today, I could see Outlanders being reanimated and plotted out the way it was supposed to be done. Who knows maybe one day it could happen. |

I'm so glad that they finally animated some of the books in the series. The music is very good too. 13 episodes in total, all of which are stories taken from 'Dawn', 'Future', 'Resurrection', and 'Sun'. Those that have read the books will be able to place them. Even with slight changes. But all in all it's a good adaption to the manga. |

The last A-ko OVA made long after the very first one. That one was the best and then things just started getting strange when we got to this one. Mind you it's different from it's predecessor but still entertaining enough. Although people were still asking why A-ko and B-ko were buddies? Well, if you ask me there's only so much craziness you can take when it comes to 2 girls fighting over a girl with the brain capacity of a flea. But to make the vessel of an evil goddess/sorceress, whatever the case. The flick is odd, but entertaining enough. But it's more like an alternate storyline. |

Ok, the is my all time favorite little flick. When dolls can push you around and cause a little chaos around your house. But sometimes a little chaos can help one gain focus and bring a desolate soul to life. That's the case of this show. I truly enjoyed this show. You can also share this with a younger viewer too. It has it's dark points, but it's still very light-hearted. The dolls are are very real. I never thought I would get drawn into them all so much. The only series that brought me that close was a game by Developers 'Nippon Ichi', called 'Adventures of the Puppet Princess'. Who says that dolls don't have feelings too? The ending will shock you! Sakura Taisen: Sumire (OAV) |
Very good |
After finally getting to know the series, I finally had the oportunity to see this OVA. It's was very touching and very sad as well. I never thought of a show where they paid close attention to retiring a character. This not only affected the characters of the series but also the actors and actresses who voiced the characters as well. Michie Tomizawa who's best known for Sumire for numberable amount of years finally retires from the roll. Though I could never imagine a series where it was said that you will never Sumire ever again in any animated feature. This includes anime and the games. This was the creators words. In many ways Sumire was a very nurturing character of the series. And though never have played the games I don't sense it came off that way. The anime portrays that more. What started out like a snobby rich girl kiss my butt please, finally gave way to someone who had a huge heart brought out by her newfound family. Alll the while hiding her true nature behind her "proudness" and a laugh that no one could imitate. Michie Tomizawa is also best known for her role as the witch 'Marjoly' in the popular 'Marl Kingdom' series, created by video game company Nippon Ichi. |

When I first came accross this series it was in an old issue of Newtype (Japan). I was drawn to the main character's short bangs and protruding forehead. That's what happens when you have short hair in the front. But that's not what drew me to the show. It was the concept dealing with the 'Shrine Priestess'. The show can be watched by almost any age really. It has a pretty solid story and the characters are very likeable. It's got some comedy. So it doesn't take itself too seriously even with some of the supernatural stuff going on. But it's also a love story too. In many ways, this series sort of reminded me of the 'Lunar Silver Star' stories. Only difference is that it is the girl that wants to protect the boy, until the time comes when he finally gains the strength to protect her. |

If 'Tenchi' was a "hentai" this is what you would get. By the same creators that gave you 'Tenchi' comes a flick with characters with so much in common with Tenchi except with twist, it's not funny. I finally broke down and bought this for myself after seeing a few months ago. I found it not just "titilating" but hilarious as well. While our hero manages to single handedly (and I don't know how sometimes) to solve ever frustrated female's problems. "Come to the muffin side!" Too bad that this series leaves you wanting an end. But I think it's might have been better that they stopped while they were ahead. |

Spirit of Wonder Scientific Boys Club (OAV) |
Very good |
Ok, first time I heard of this flick was when I saw a trailer for it. I was like, "hey they're finishing the story!" How wrong I was. Actually, this OVA is devoted to another story by Kenji Tsuruta. However Miss China does make a few cameo appearances of warding off the "dirty old men syndrome". I often wonder what goes on in the creator's mind. I don't think I've seen a show where you see so much "goosing" in one sitting. But it's a really endearing story. About a couple, of which the wife Windy, had given up on furthering her father's research of being able to one day go into space. But with the unexpected help of her husband and his involvement in the 'Science Boys Club', he helps make the dream become a reality. What I really enjoyed about this this flick was how Windy evolved from being an ordinary stay at home housewife to a take charge type a person. It just goes to show that she had the "spark" in her all along. But when you are a woman who possesses enough knowledge that it's not appreciated in the "mens" world, it kind of brings you down. And we see that a bit in Windy's case, trying to be a good wife to her husband. But once she found out what was really going on, she wasn't sure if she should move forward. In the end she realized that if she didn't she would be missing out on something big. And the important thing was that someone believed enough in her to see it through. It's either go forward or stay and regret it for the rest of your life.
The last 2 segments features more fanservice craziness from 'Miss China' and company as they halucinate find life on 'Mars'? And when Miss China is shrunk down to size. And we don't mean "chibi". |

The worse adult title I've ever seen! If there is any psychological message in this film I couldn't pick it up. Maybe is was because I was so distracted by the bad animation I couldn't concentrate on anything else. The company must have been strapped for cash, that the only good they could muster to create this film was a computer and tons of morphing software. The entire anime relies on the animation being done by a computer. Fans who watch adult titles such as these could get a real laugh out of this one. |

This is an odd little show. I don't think I've ever seen such a flick. Funny thing is that the studio that produced this made it seem like they were going to do more but it seems that this little "gem" is a one shot.
Story of a toy bear that can stop bad guys. It almost seems impossible when you see it in action for yourself. But it comes off well. Of course at first no one would think much of a stuffed bear fighting crime and helping children in trouble. But when he transforms into 'Super Kuma-san', look out it's plain scary. But if you think that his looks are scary, it's even more scary when a ballerina dancing doll decides to seek revenge. |

Ok, it's not the best flick in the world, but for some reason I liked it. I also own it. But other fans might not consider this title worthy of shelf life. The plot is really simple, angry teenage boy named Hibio, living with lazy lecherous father, who's mother took off because she's an archeologist causing boy to basically dislike or distrust women. Almost the makings of a "mysoginist". Although he's angry all the time, he does have a little heart. Enter the class rep Fujimatsu who's just as serious and "hot-headed" as he is. They're always lways butting heads and his new "bride-to-be" Nima, sent by mom while on one of her digs. If she can't be there to nurture him why not send him someone who can. And while his Nima is ever so "bouncy" and "chipper" it does lift his spirits a little but not much more than you'd expect. And that's where the show starts to fall short. Mainly because this series was probably based off a manga or someone's creation and turned anime. So of course you're going to possibly lose some character development. Hibio's is coming around but still hot, Fujimatsu likes him but she's still too hot to confess, and Nima, well she's just there to look cute and soften the situation as best as possible. But other than that I do except that Hibio doesn't change right away, meaning it's a work in process that a lot of years without a mother have created. So I sort of sympathize with his "jerky" attitude. But it's worth a watch if you have nothing else to watch. |
Tenchi Forever!: The Movie |
Very good |
Ok, I tried to watch this movie back to back with 'DOD', and that' wasn't happening. I finally had the chance to sit and watch it. This was a highly enjoyable film. There wasn't much in comedy on this note. Considering that 'Production I.G' did the animation on it I can tell they wanted to go with somethign a little more mature in nature. It too me awhile to get used to the style of the characters in this story. Not to mention you really got to see how much Ryoko really and I mean really loved Tenchi. But at the same time it almost seemed like it was a film that offered closure in a sense that Tenchi will always keep Ryoko deep within his heart. While sort of letting go and moving on. The ending could give hints about the future of 'Tenchi'. |
Tenchi Muyo! (OAV 1/1992) |
Good |
After some years I finally got the chance to see what the whole "hubbub" was about when 'Tenchi' hit our airwaves. Of course I wanted to see the uncut and subtitled version of the series. I could also understand why fans considered this a great show. It has a very intricate and well thought out storyline that has spawned so many questions and alternate retellings. |
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki (OAV 2/1994) |
Good |
Continuation of the first with more crazy antics from Ryoko and Ayeka, with Sasami and Ryo-ohki just shaking their heads at them going crazy over 'Tenchi'. Then again everyone likes 'Tenchi' even Ryo-ohki. More info is revealed on the Jurai background. Just who is 'Lady Tokimi' and why is Washu and Tenchi as so heavily watched? |
Tenchi Muyo! The Night Before The Carnival (OAV) |
Good |
While it doesn't come off as continuation to the first OVA series, it is. This little stand alone, which was labelled ep. 7 in the U.S basically takes you away from series OVAs for just a bit, but later takes you back into the series preparing you for what's to come next in OVA series 2. We get a little sneak peak into 'Sammy's past and 'Lady Tokimi' and their concerns about 'Washu' and her involvement with 'Tenchi'. In this installment we get to watch Ryoko and Ayeka make fools of themselves trying once more to win 'Tenchi's affections "manga style". The last segment uses limited animation to prepare you for a coming sequel. I often wonder if they meant to do it this way or was it because they ran out of budget. But all and all entertaining. |
Tenchi the Movie - Tenchi Muyo in Love |
Very good |
I finally got the chance to see this movie. I remember when it ran on the Sci-Fi Channel way back when. Done in typical OVA fare but with a budget we get to see the lives of Tenchi's parents. I couldn't help but feel deep emotions for Tenchi. Considering what we knew about his mother, this was a very overwhelming thing for him to see his mother at time when she was his age and not be able to speak to her. Of course we are able to piece together the series of events that led to her death so early in her life. That and the fact that the past cannot be changed. But for him to at least see his mother once was enough. This was a very touching story. |
Tenchi The Movie 2 - The Daughter of Darkness |
Very good |
Ok, this movie scared me. Even though it was a movie it was more like another OVA that they were pumping out. Another well thought out story. But at the same time watching the downright aggressiveness from Ryoko scared the hell out of me. Not to mention a lot of the elements in the story were a little disturbing as well. But other than that it was a good story. |

Ok, all I can say is that this film is very good, if anything a masterpiece visually. But the overall the feature is TOO BUSY! There is too much going on in this film that the creator wanted to portray. Seven years in the making and a message at the end. Oh, I got the message but it would take several viewings of this feature to be able to pull it out. Provided it garners enough love from it's viewers to go another round. |

Ultimate Teacher (OAV) |
Good |
I remember seeing this flick years ago back in my college days back in 89. It's an odd little flick. A female 'Samson' you could call it. It's the story about a girl that owns a special pair of bloomers. Now that I know a little more about Japanese culture, those bloomers are basically the type of bloomers that they wear during PhysED. Unlike Superman that gets weak when kryptonite is near, remove her bloomers and she's very weak. The bloomers are the source of her incredible strength. So not only is she strong she's also a nice young girl. But being a nice doesn't help when all the idiots are out to test you. One very ugly teacher who ends up being the ring-leader. It's also good to have friends that will back you up. While this show does have it's "ecchi" element it's still pretty tame. While dated it's still entertaining. Weird but entetaining. |

Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend (OAV) |

Adult anime wouldn't be what it is today if not for this title. This series is called the "godfather" of the adult anime genre. Namely because it breaks boundaries that most titles dare tread during the time it was first released. Though dated now, it still holds up. Mind you this title has become very famous for it's high level of "eroticism" in anime. Not to mention analyzed by those studying violence in anime. Not to mention getting a look at post-war Japan's subculture. Or just looking at it as a adult title. |

Ushio & Tora (OAV) |
Very good |
I came across this series back in the 90's, in an old anime magazine. It had grabbed my interest even though I didn't know what it was about. I eventually came across the manga and grabbed a few. I eventually had the chance to seeing this series a bit subtitled when it was finally released here on VHS. Since I already knew a little of the story, I was happy with some of the episodes that were featured. But again like all OVAs, they tend to be short. They are just a quick visual aid not really made to give you full detail, since fans have already read the manga. But the series is entertaining of enough by featuring stories that ran in the manga. I feel that this would have done better if they had made this into a TV series. The interesting thing about this show is that it delves into the supernatural aspect of Japanese culture. Which makes it very popular to those who take an interest in it. But all in all it's a good story too. About friendship. The manga is very thorough. I finally got the chance to own the full series. Of the entire collection my favorite episodes are the last two that feature the struggle of 3 "kamaitachis" (weasels that can morph parts of their bodies to form sickle blades. In the folklore "kamaitachis" are tricksters who live in a pack of 3. They play practical jokes on villagers who wander the woods. One will trip the victim, the other will cut and the other will apply medicine). Two of which ask Ushio & Tora to help bring their brother back to them. |
Ushio & Tora: Comically Deformed Theater (OAV) |

Also included on the specially Ushio & Tora collection. This little one-shot OVA featuring the cast in SD format in crazy antics. If you know the show then you'll get the jokes. This reminds me of the little SD theatre that 'Lodoss Wars' had. |
Utawarerumono (TV) |
Excellent |
After hearing so much about this series I finally had to sit down and watch it. That is after I had finished with everything else I was watching. All I have to say is that I LOVE THIS SHOW! For a fantasy series this is the one series that really hits home for me. Being a person that plays RPGs, I found that this series contained so many numerous elements that make playing such games great and memorable. When you can talk about a series whether it's a game or a show a lot and be moved at the same time you know it's good. Being originally a adult simulation, visual novel for the PC and later published for the PS2 the game just has all around grand storyline. After watching the show I began to understand why so many people including myself loved it so much. The best way to describe the show goes with that old saying, "all is not as it seems". If that is not so true with 'Utawarerumono' I don't know what is. When this show aired I hadn't been interested enough to watch it yet. But somehow I found msyelf getting drawn to it little by little. When the game for PS2 came out and I kept seeing all the fanart and hearing about all the little extra tidbits about stuff in the the PC version, I was intrigued. I had visited the "wiki" numerous times trying to get info on the game. Even the character designs for the game seemed to grab my attention. And then I almost read something I shouldn't have. The little bit I acquired stayed in mind but it still wasn't enough to spoil anything. But it was enough that the series wasn't what it seemed. Even a friend showed me his favorite clips. Yet I still had to watch it. Then finally after the series was released here and I had finished up other shows I sat down and watched it. I made sure I found a worty "fansub". I eventually found myself practically glued to my laptop. As I knew I would be. All of the characters were colorful. They were all unique in their own way. Each told a story. They had their "ways" and their "quirks". Best quirk in the show was 'Touka'. Who ever thought a person so sworn by the sword, with deadly skills would have a weakness for cute and cuddly. Then there's the very laid back 'Karura' who can drink enough sake to knock out a giant and still be as effective in battle. But while they are those that stand out the most you can't help but be drawn to others not on the popularity poll. And they're just as likeable and lovable. Aruru commands the goddess of the forest and proves she's not just an annoying kid and is actually useful. And Eruru shows that while she's not like everyone else her love is unconditional which plays a pivotal role in the outcome of the story. There are so many things and the score is a plus too. This show made me think of all the games that I loved playing. The 'FF' series, 'Breath of Fire' series, 'Lunar' series as well as others. For what I find in each of those series is something memorable. In 'Utawarerumono' I found elements in that series that made me understand why I love the games I play or what makes fantasy stories so entertaining. While some could say there are things in the series that may relate to other things as far as originality goes. I think this series does a great job at being as original as possible even if it borrows from other sources. But who can tell? It's a great story and I really wish I could have the chance to enjoy the game the same way the Japanese have. Too bad no one will port it. After all this is America and we just don't like this type of stuff. |
Uta∽Kata (TV) |
Good |
Ok, all can say is that this show is not lighthearted at all. If anything it's very dark. I'm still trying to figure this show out. But I enojyed it, but I think I need to give it another look. But I'm sorry too much fanservice for the likes of little girls. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? But the OP and ED are really great themes to listen to. The ED theme has a very almost traditional Japanese folk sound to it. |
Uta∽Kata (OAV) |
Good |
Ok, I finally watched this last installment of the series and...yet I still couldn't get anything out of it. It's about friends alright but this series didn't grab me. I watched many anime shows and it's not often that I come accross a show that I can't pick up on. Maybe when it's licensed here and there are some sites for it, maybe they can help shed some light on what I didn't pick up. |
Variable Geo (OAV) |
Good |
It's like Street Fighter but with 'GURLS'. Well, what did you expect to get? Winner wins and loser takes all...all their clothes off! Created by TGL, and originally appeared on the PC one could see what this series was about. It also spawned several versions for various game consoles. Though we never got them we got a chance to see the anime. I remember first being shown this series by a friend. I asked him what it was about and he told me that it was a 'fanboy' show. I checked it out while keeping his comments in mind. The first instance I detected that something "ecchi" was a foot I was shot down. Well, there was "ecchi" elements of course. I mean the heroine of the show has a big chest that always gets attention from dirty old men. A kinky female fighter that likes to "touch". And that if you loose you'll be entertaining a huge crowd in a way you'd only do in the privacy of your own home. But other than those things the writers didn't make it come off like they were the only elements in the whole show. There were some serious moments. Like Yuka's friend Satomi trying to work and look after her sickly brother. Who's in desperate need of an operation. And while this is all going on you have other fighters that are trying to unlock the secret behind Jahana Industries. All the characters are likeable. Some more than others. But again keep in mind this is an OVA. For those who are not familiar with the game series this OVA sheds light on the series. About the goddess tournaments. You have those that strive to gain the glory and those who will sell their soul and will try and manipulate destiny to gain that power to be on top. Those familiar with the series already through the game will just be getting something that falls under the catagory of "let's animate this!" It's about friendship and it's got heart as well. |

Ok, I can say 3 things about this series. Wicked, ugly and funny. Based on the manga by the same title. The animation of this show looks dated considering designs which match the original designs found in the manga. They are some of the most ugly looking people, but yet somehow appealing. This show contains some very gross and wicked humor. Watch Michiko strut her stuff to show folks that it takes more than just being a weather anchorwoman. And that no matter how much dirt you dish out on someone and have it dished back at you, you can dish it back and come out like a champ. Rule to remember "don't piss off women!" Especially psychotic ones. |

Ah yes, one of Kawajiri's early flicks. This title came out before 'Urotsukidoji'. Not to mention having a budget when it was released back in the theaters. I remember seeing this film years ago in the raw. It was my first erotic anime. Funny thing is that this film contains a enough eroticism to put it in the titles of the "hentai" kind, yet it's not classified as such. This was the film that put me intouch with Kawajiri Yoshiaki and his portrayal of "eroticism" in many of his works. After seeing it again after some years later I was able to view it with a newer appreciation and noticed some things I didn't before. I was very "green" back then. I came to realized that I actually liked this title because of the relation between the 2 main characters. Also, this introduced me to the medium that is often used in any Kawajiri flick. Usually consisting of dark lines and heavy blacks all wrapped in an elegance all it's own. |

Another Kawajiri flick. I kind of liked this one. Very interesting plot, and of course we have to have sex. After all it's a Kawajiri flick. Funny thing is I realized about this flick is that even when most of the world's thoughts had been altered that still didn't save them from themselves. Removing their memories of "now" only stopped things. Before man reached the stage he is at now he was "primitive". That never stopped anything. It just took longer for him to reach the point of creating science which in turn brings us to an age where we can pretty much wipe ourselves out. The flick brings forth many questions, "is man better off without his memories?" "And even if you take them away does it make things any better?" "Were the ____ doing us a favor?" Then there was of course the people at the research lab that wanted to create a utopia. So of course does life in a "sterile" environment with false memories equal happiness? It's an endless cycle. No matter what the answer is all we can do is live our lives to the fullest. Live as if it were your last day. |

I like it. I like wolves and I have to admit it was highly entertaining. For anyone that likes a very involved storyline. Some will either hate it or some will like it. But the characters are pretty thought out. Please, folks try not to think of them as people cause they aren't. |

Don't really need to comment on this, other than it's a continuation of the TV series with a bigger budget. It's not like it's an alternate retelling of the story. |

Xenosaga: The Animation (TV) |
Good |
A good adaptation of the the game. Fans of the first game will come to appreciate an animated version of the game. Though there are slight changes between the anime vs the game, it still holds true to the storyline. Even those that haven't played the game will find this story enjoyable. My only problem with this show is that I wished that they could have gotten the original character designer Kunihiko Tanaka. Whom has worked as a character designer in anime. While Yuki Nobuteru was a good candidate, is style doesn't totally work for this series. However his style works better than what studio 'Gonzo' did for 'Chrno Crusade'. I like his style in such shows like 'Escaflowne' and 'Heat Guy J'. I feel that the designs at times were a little rushed. Like "let's hurry and do a animated 'Xenosaga'. At times the animation looks bland. There isn't much detail put into it. It's an aestetic thing but other than that it's still viewable. This is just my opinion viewing it. Others may have a different opinion. The music is a plus though. |
