Gotta be Momo Ayase from Dandadan. I'm a sucker for "badass with a heart" characters and she's a very well-done one.

Sawako Kuronuma from Kimi Ni Todoke This was a hard decision to make as there are so many good female leads and Kimi Ni Todoke is on season 3. However while Fern, Freiren, Masaki, Momo and others are good choices I went with my gut and my gut said Sawako. Ayane is also a big part of the season but isn't a lead female character. I've always liked Sawako both her kindness and her generosity. She's also not a complete pushover and says no to people like Kurumi. She doesn't get as much to do this season but to see her go from season 1 where she was totally isolated to now having close friends and a boyfriend is a real treat and great journey. She's come very far and is still learning. The show is as much about her building relationships as it is about her relationship with Kazehaya. She's a sweetheart and shy and innocent but also not as passive as Miyo from My happy Marriage. She is one of the reasons that this show is so compelling despite how long it takes for the main couple to get together.

Youko Satou from The Fable

Guuurrrl, don't mess with this chick! She's the best kind of a mess and a laugh riot when she’s toying with the boys.

And a shout out to Mina Ashiro from Kaiju no8. I loved her as well, but not as much as my messy Fable lady. Maybe someone else will agree with me and nominate her?

Ranma (girl) from Ranma 1/2

Megumi Hayashibara deserves an award for replaying her after so many years.
