Dead Dead Demon's De De De De Destruction

A moving story of friendship in a world torn-free of its moorings, speaking directly to the terminally online. Equal part cynical and zany and with a cutting caricature for every personality, a grossly underrated satire of modern society.

My personal favourite of the year, but given the acclaim it garnered, I think you'd have a tough time to justify calling it underrated.

The Elusive Samurai

I know that ancient Japanese history (not Sengoku jidai) is not very known outside Japan, but I think our fugitive lord and his companions deserve recognition.

Bartender Glass of God

Achieved making discussion of (non-Molotov) cocktails interesting.

I likely would have nominated Whisper Me a Love Song, but only considered series that got completed.

Astro Note

This series was quite a bit nostalgic since it felt like a mix of two of Rumiko Takahashi's earliest works, Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku.

Mayonaka PunchThis was a tough one. I was torn. Dead dead demon was a gimmee but two people already nominated it. I also really liked Undead Unluck but I"m not sure it counts because it started airing in 2023 but continued into 2024. I also thought Wind Breaker was really good, but it's a fighting show, which while well done has been done before. I though Mayonaka punch was unique for really showing how online cancelling can mess with someone's psyche and also there's vampires in it who all have distinct personalities and are mostly well developed. In short, in my heart of hearts outside of Undead Unluck, I really feel like this one got overlooked the most. The animation and the song they performed were excellent too plus a kick ass op and ed.

The Apothecary Dairies

This was an wonderful series with fantastic visuals and excellent stories to match the LNs. No magic overpowered isekaied characters. Just very good down to earth ones.

Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!

This show was surprisingly enjoyable and worth mentioning. Though I think I’d actually vote for The Fable (what a fun dorky show that was), but since it was already nominated, let’s go with some underrated office romance BL instead.
