When the time comes, I'm voting for Nukumizu, but a close second is Ken Takakura from Dandadan.

Taiyo Asano from Mission: Yozakura Family
Taiyo, while sharing many traits with classic shonen protagonists, is a great asset to both the comedy and narrative of this series. His struggles with social anxiety make him relatable pretty quickly, but his kindness and drive to leave his comfort zone for the greater good makes him inspirational. He also makes a great straight man, being normal in a society of spies, while having his own quirks that got laughs out of me.

Lawrence Kraft from Spice and Wolf
Refreshing to have a male protagonist in a romance who does not freak out all the time.

Kafka Hibino from Kaiju no 8 I nominated Kafka because I think he's a great leading male character and one of the few over 30. I also really like his determination to go for his dreams despite being older than a lot of the anti kaiju forces and having no major special skills. He's a good mix of funny and kind of a goof but can also be serious or helpful. He's an asset because of his knowledge not just because he can punch things hard in his kaiju form. I also considered Rafal from Orb but he has too little screen time and Hikaru Amatsuga from Mecha Ude, but Hikaru is similar to other shounen protagonists in a lot of ways. Kafka is the first male lead in a long time that feels unique. (that being said I won't be surprised if he loses to Laios).

Yukiya from Yatagarasu
So many good choices already nominated here… I loved Yatagarasu and seeing Yukiya's growth in the show.
