I know he's been in poor health for such a long time, but still sad to hear he won't ever get to draw again like he wanted. Rest in peace, finally.

As a note, you might like to point out that Discotek has the anime in print again too since the AnimEigo discs have been out of print for nearly two decades.

61 is way too young. RIP, sensei. He'll live on in our hearts forever, especially after creating one of the most respected manga of its genre.

His work had a huge impact on me as a young adult... So thank you, Matsumoto-san.
He'd been fighting this condition for a long time, meaning it isn't a complete surprise; but still very sad nonetheless. May he rest in peace.

RIP, Matsumoto-sensei.

My husband and I have been reading KOR for the past year or so and have been greatly enjoying it. We're currently more than halfway through, past the point where the art becomes somewhat more Otomo-inspired (as with every other manga at the time, I would imagine). It's a must-read for fans of shounen rom-coms.

I'm glad it was a peaceful death. No more pain for him. May he be drawing in the afterlife and know that many people adored his work.

RIP, Sensei. Thank you for creating one of the best anime romcoms of the 80s. I was lucky to be a part of the KOR manga kickstarter and received an autograph with my copy of the 1st volume. His work was fun, but with an unexpected maturity to it at times. Glad that he is no longer in pain. [/u]

Damn this is unfortunate i was hoping he'll recover someday despite the struggle of the illness for ages. i wonder what Kazushi Hagiwara thinks of his mentor recently passing away i wonder if he might bring out Bastard!! out of hiatus since you know life can be short.

I feel fortunate to have met him a couple times over the years at various anime conventions. He was perhaps the sweetest artist I have met over the years of regularly attending anime conventions. Incredibly humble and honest. The panels where he opened up about his health issues and how he was very close to taking his own life around 2000 due to the pain he experienced from his cerebrospinal fluid leak condition was incredibly heartbreaking to hear. I was in tears by the end of that panel.

I'm relieved to hear that, according to his doctor, Matsumoto-sensei died peacefully in his sleep. For someone who lived for decades in as much pain as he had experienced and yet was still incredibly kind, I had hoped that his death would be fast and painless.
