I think a Hollywood Parasyte would be something similar to Idle Hands.

Agreed. I could see Hollywood turning it into a B movie horror film or a PG-13 alien/sci-fi action movie if they got their way. American audiences don't really want anything more than popcorn flicks these days, especially out of "comic book" adaptions. -Stuart Smith |

Thank god I'm not a weeabo like you. I'm sure this will be a decent movie, but like majority of Japanese movies, it will be badly acted with bad FX. The best adaptation it could get would be a Korean movie, good acting with semi good FX.

That is such a ridiculous and untrue statement. As long as it put in the right hands, I could see Hollywood doing a good movie out of it. |

There was going to be a Hollywood version of this and it was scrapped!!!
Well, I would've like a Hollywood version of this film because Japanese CGI aren't cutting edge from what I've seen. |

Anyone claiming Hollywood is incapable of thoughtful anime/manga adaptations clearly didn't watch Edge of Tomorrow/ Live. Die. Repeat.

Technically doesn't count because All You Need is Kill is a novel. The comic & manga adaptations didn't happen until the Hollywood movie was being made. |

Takashi Yamazaki is a good director, handles CGI well, and according to ANN Encyclopedia has done a lot of work in anime as well (wonder if that's not a different Yamazaki).
I have faith he'll make a good film. |

Doesn't matter, it's still originally a Japanese work. The only reason people always talk like that is because the general public's belief is that all Hollywood films are basically Transformers. There are a lot of A list films that I don't like, hate even, but don't dismiss an entire creative ground just because of some untalented hacks that got lucky and landed a directing job because they "know someone who knows someone else who's related to a guy in the entertainment industry." All you need is respectable filmmakers who care about their craft, it doesn't matter what country you're in. I'm sure Japan has made its fair share of bad films too. I'm being frugal there because I've seen a lot of them and yes, there are a lot of bad Japanese movies out there. |

But they whitewashed the cast for Edge of Tomorrow version. Chances are any Parasyte movie would have been whitewashed as well. I never read the LN, but I still doubt how accurate/good Edge of Tomorrow is. I've seen some people say Speed Racer was good but I found it terrible and nothing like Mach Go Go Go. I think people just lower their expectations for Hollywood adaptions. Or they praise something as long as it doesn't turn out to be like Dragonball Evolution.
But the whole point of making an anime adaption is to cash in on an existing fanbase. And if you gotta change a bunch of stuff and Americanize it, why adapt an anime/manga and not just go for some American comic book? Anime is anime because it's Japanese and reflects Japanese culture and sensibilities. Take it away and you lose a lot |

Those who claim that Edge of Tomorrow is the good adaptation of Japanese novel clearly didn't read All You Need is Kill. The script of the film is very different from the original, and not always for the better - especially the typical Hollywood ending. Edge of Tomorrow is no less proof than the other films that Hollywood is incapable to adapt Japanese manga, novel or anime for today. With the only exception that this film is good in itself - but in terms of adaptation of the original it isn't even slightly better than the rest. |

Thats funny because I think this Parasyte movie looks like a PG-13 movie. Along with made for TV acting & special effects(Migi looks like Play Doh). I'm a big fan of the manga & loving the anime but I'm less than thrilled about this cheap movie. I don't get the enthusiasm. |

These are based on comics: Road to Perdition, American Splendor, Ghost World, A History of Violence, The Crow, Surrogates. Dark Knight and Watchmen aren't exactly popcorn neither. Hollywood is kinda like anime - there's so many released each year, there's something for everyone.
Speed Racer is based on the Americanized Speed Racer, not Mach Go Go Go. It's for the fans of the former, not the latter.
If it's a straight-up adaptation, instead of "based on." Romeo and Juliet is an English love story about Italian families; Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is another notoriously English book - both of these have been "Japanized" so many times in Japan, and nobody has a problem with that. Studio Ghibli does it too, and Japanese like it. |

Me thinks this movie will be a hit or miss with a lot of people... I've seen a far share of awesome anime/manga > live action and just trashy horrible ones but I'd still want to watch this (and Kami sama no iutoori lol) The CG doesnt look too bad, and im kinda excited to see the xxxholic boys in this movie again haha
Unlike Korean movies, Japanese movies don't overhype everything with romance, love triangles, love twist etc. Tho i admit I adore Korean horrors as much as Japanese horrors, Korean sci-fi/monster movies aren't on par with Japanese titles imo.
The only movie i've seen with his as a director was Battleship Yamato. Whilst I admit the movie was slightly boring (maybe to me it was just too long), the CG effects were great in comparison to other Japanese films containing CG. So, I guess I am kinda looking forward to the movie! |
