This is absolutely my favorite buddy-cop/police procedural LN and Echika and Harold's chemistry so good!

Since the anime will skip Vol. 1, I wonder how will they go about it since several plot beats from Vol. 1 are still relevant in the later books?

Also, I really need Vol. 7 ASAP after Vol. 6 ended with the series' biggest cliffhanger!

Seriously?
The translator was just outed as a Zionist and for inserting political views into their works. How does ANN respond? By promoting it!

What is happening with the editorial since you were acquired?
You've previously published the sickening review insulting Nagata Kabi, now you promote this? Disappointing.

From what I gathered these claims are because the line in volume 5 of 86 where he used "let us die with the Philistines." Which is a quote from the bible, but some are stating it is an anti-arab Zionist statement. I could not find anything to back that claim up.

The "outing" of being a Zionist is because the translator responded to these comments and in regards to comments he was a Zionist he said he never said he wasn't Zionist. The issue with this is that there are many different definitions of Zionist. Depending on who you ask it could mean anything from supporting "Jewish self-determination" (ie having the freedom of determining their own future as a people) to supporting "expansion of Jewish control in the West Bank" (the views of West Bank settlers) so it varies quite a bit. As for some other groups they consider the term to mean only a movement "to deny the rights of Palestinians and the humanity of Palestinians." It's a word that can mean different things to different people. Palestinian supporters may see the term as anti-Palestinian, but it's no different from the Palestinian statement "from the river to the sea" which can mean different things to different people. It could mean retaking the land back from the Israelis, thus why many Israelis consider it a statement calling for their eradication, or it could mean simply being able to return to their ancestral land without necessarily retaking the land which is what a lot of Palestinians claims it means now.

This of course is just what I was able to pull up, and it was limited to a few posts on twitter which came up doing searches as it wasn't mentioned anywhere else. If you have more material, please feel free to share it.

What I got from the review is that the setting is kind of a cross between Accel World (the brain implants & USB stuff) and Chobits (the androids & chobits); is that a fair understanding of the world this series is set in?

From the description of the USB connections and it being a sci-fi/mystery series, I wonder if any future stories would involve the attempted hacking of human brains, and the editing/deleting/addition of memories. That would be interesting I think.

I've read what the translator has posted on this, and "wants Israel to exist" is as far at that person's beliefs on the matter goes. Frankly, calling someone a Zionist just for that is an exercise at least in political agenda if not outright racism/religious intolerance.

And the translation comment which precipitated all of this is a reach, a case of someone looking for an excuse to be offended. The Bibilical verse in question has been used in plenty of other ways over the years, and Philistines and Palestinians have completely different origins anyway. Not saying that there aren't some racial/religious extremists out there conflating the two for purposes of an agenda, but that isn't the common usage for it and the Biblical reference is absolutely in line with the way the character who speaks it might talk.

And for the record, anyone who thinks that either Chris (the publisher) or Lynzee (the editor-in-chief) would allow the change in ownership to change the site's editorial practices doesn't know this site well.

Now, unless the comments somehow have something to do with the review in question, let this be the final word on the matter. If you still have a problem with this issue, PM me about it.

I was not familiar with this series, but reading this review it definitely sounds very interesting and up my alley on genres. Definitely going to take a look at volume 1.

Thank you Theron for addressing the political aspect of this, I would like to address ANN's general stance on issues like this.

The translator of a light novel is only a part of the project. There is of course, the original author, their editor, also the original publisher, as well as the domestic publisher, and their respective staff. While the translator is a very important part of the project, they are in no way the primary creator.

Regardless of the translator's politics, whatever they may be, ANN is not going to boycott reviewing a light novel simply because one the many people who worked on it has politics contrary to some of our readers, and or our own. Especially when that one person is not the primary author. The whole "artist and their work" dilemma is much less important when we aren't talking about the primary artist.

In extremely rare circumstances, we have boycotted reviewing certain titles due to the actions/words of the primary creators; these decisions are not taken lightly and are strongly debated within ANN before they are taken. Personally I am generally against doing this and only allow it when there is near unanimity among the editorial staff.

Furthermore, ANN doesn't boycott reviews if the localization is faulty and includes inserted political messaging, social commentary, or inappropriate cultural references. If that messaging actually exists (which previous posters have pointed out is unlikely in this case), our job is to point it out and critique it. We've done that in the past.

ANN's review of any light novel, anime, or manga is in no way indicates that we condone the politics or activities of the people involved in said work.
