The marketing survey firm Oricon reports that the sixth and final Blu-ray Disc volume of the Bakemonogatari anime series sold 51,000 copies to rank #1 on the sales chart for the July 26-August 1 week. The much-delayed volume sets a television anime record for first-week sales; the previous record-holder was the fourth Bakemonogatari volume, which sold 48,000 copies. Altogether, the six volumes in the series have sold 325,000 copies.
The sixth volume includes the final two episodes of the series, which were streamed and not televised before the home video release.
In first-week sales, the first Bakemonogatari volume sold 29,000 copies, the second sold 39,000 copies, the third sold 41,000, and the fifth sold 46,000. An anime adaptation of Kizumonogatari, the prequel volume to NisiOisin's original Bakemonogatari light novel series, has already been green-lit.
