Comment:
Battle Angel Alita: Last Order disregards the original ending of Volume 9 of the Battle Angel Alita manga. This was because creator Yukito Kishiro was forced to give the original manga an ending he was not satisfied with. He returned to continuing the story of Alita in 2000 after several projects, including Aqua Knight. Last Order borrows elements from the 1998 PlayStation video game GUNNM: Martian Memory.
A falling out between Kishiro and Shueisha resulted in Last Order being put on hiatus after the 100th chapter in June 2010. One of the editors of Ultra Jump wanted Kishiro to stop using the word "psycho" in his manga dialogue. Kishiro offered to resume the manga if the legal department of Ultra Jump issued an apology for revising his work, and if Shueisha revised the revisions to their original form. After Shueisha rejected Kishiro's requirements, Kishiro jumped to Kodansha, which resumed the storyline of Last Order on Evening magazine in March 2011.
