Hello, this is the gaminganimator. I am about to write some things I know will not be popular. I am sure after I write this thread, my opinion won't mean much around here. However, I would like to write this anyway.

I firmly believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This can be true for people, places, and art forms. However, when something is considered a masterpiece, it is believed that everyone can and should like it. I think this is completely wrong: (Insert thread title here.) Every single person on this planet is a unique individual, and we all have different tastes, whether it be about books, movies, or anime.

This finally brings me to my question for all of you: Is there anime you like that everyone seems to hate, and vice-versa?

I'll start: A generally liked anime I don't like is Full Metal Alchemist. I could never get into the story, I felt that many of the main characters were unlikable, and the mix of action, drama, and comedy did not mesh for me. I am not at all saying this is a bad series, and I understand that this franchise has many fans, I'm just saying I am not one of them.

A generally disliked series I like is Naruto. This may seem weird, since this series has many fans, but most of the review I have read for the boxsets say this series is not all it's cracked up to be. I love the title character of this series: he is unique and entertaining, and the world he inhabits is full of life and energy. This series may be plagued with tons of filler and pointless movies, but even those are fun to watch. I am not saying its the best anime around, I'm just saying I like it.

Anyway, that's my two cents, what's yours?

I understand that one person's trash is anothers treasure but I do believe that somethings, no matter how much you like, them could be masterpieces. They can be favorites which is very different from the best.

I really liked Angelic Layer. Enough to buy it so I could see the last episode on a TV instead of youtube, then enough to rewatched in the last month. I do see where people compare it to Pokemon. I also can see how it screams"I am promoting video game" but doesn't have one. I throughly enjoyed the character developement and got all excited when"Misaki-chi" won a match.

Now for one I didn't like The Revolutionary Girl Utena Movie. I always feel bad to rag on a show because I know that every show is someones favorite, but this was just too out there for me. I loved the TV series, but the movie was to hyper active for me. It didn't make sense by its self and barley did having seen the show. Things seemed way to rushed and I didn't like Utena becoming a pansey at all. On a high note it would make an wonderful art book. The art was great which made me less angry.

Kidou Tenshi Angelic Layer came out on GBA in 2001. Japan. It was an RPG. There is rarely an anime that doesn't have a game. I thoroughly enjoyed Angelic Layer. I'm big fan of what ever clamp is involved in.

As for the topic, I can't really think of anything I dislike. I'm a collector so I collect everything. Anything goes.

I think the fandom is disliked more than the anime itself. Though, If they would have kept to the manga, it would have been the best. Now it's missing so damn much of the actual story that there is no point to follow it anymore. There is too much filler to choke down to get to the manga story.

Really? I have the strange urge to import it even though I can't read Japanese. I like the idea of mind controlling "battle dolls."

I agree with you Shadowrun20XX about Naruto. It's not partically the show I dislike but the fans. I have only seen the first episode and wasn't to excited about it. I never have been a fan of shonen shows though, I don't like a single long running shonen show for some reason. Maybe because I'm too much of a girl.

Naruto fans bug me to no end sometimes. It's the high school boys running up and down the halls saying "Believe it!" and "Hey! Female!" that bothers me most. These are the same kids who claim they have a real deathnote. Then they find out you like anime, figure all anime is the same and then think that you should date, I mean really?

Naruto can be his checky little ninja self and have a following; that bothers me none. It's the "special" fans that bother me.

I don't really deal so much in black and whites in this area.

There aren't really that many shows I would tote as complete garbage. Most everything has at least some redeeming value or something about it that I like, it's just a matter of whether there is enough of it to keep me entertained. Following the trail of thought thus far if the guy who likes mostly everything really hates something it's logical to assume that that thing is almost universally disliked so what I think is garbage I've found is usually widely agreed upon, rather than me being the only one. So, basically I usually end up just finding myself not liking certain shows as much as other people rather than outright disliking something. I don't really have much rated below the "Not Really Good But Not A Total Loss" rating which would mean it's garbage in my book. Maybe around 40 or so of the 600+ titles I've seen. If I rated them that low they either had no real interest to me (like children's shows) or I outright thought they were vile and repellent (like rape hentai).

Most people don't like Brigadoon because of its odd pairing, and most people just conclude it as a perverted childish anime before throwing it to the trash. But I love it. It's an emotional rollercoaster. It's packed with lots of humor and at the same time a lot of drama, and although I know myself as the kind that doesn't cry easily, this anime made me cry so hard.

An entire genre of Anime that seems to be overlooked is Dobutsu Anime (anime about animals).

Perhaps the most famous being Hamtaro, there are SOOOO many other animal-oriented series out there that are simply ignored, it's just ridiculous!!
Laughing

(to list just a few.....)

Shiawase Sou no Okojo-san, Neko no Shuukai, Jungle Emperor Leo, Junkers Come Here, Catnapped, What’s Michael?, Massugo ni Iko, Hoero Bunbun, Cyborg Kuro Chan, Ginga Legend Weed, Bubu Chacha, Animal Yokocho, Unico, Animal Crossing, Happy Happy Clover, Coo: Tooi Umi Kara Kita Coo, Alfred J. Kwak, Tama and Friends, Wan Wan Serebu Soreyuke! Tetsunoshin, Wansa-kun, Rascal the Racoon, Nanatsu no Umi no Tico, One Stormy Night, and Ringing Bell.....

(the list could go on and on......)

Very Happy
