I thought this was an interesting piece on the differences between the US and Japanese soundtracks.
Thoughts? |

He's sorta right. As far as missing songs, it's totally a licensing issue. Of course, even that roadblock is starting to fade out of the picture.
The releases John cited aren't representative of the progress domestic soundtracks have made in the last two or three months. I've listened to every domestic CD that's come out since July, and I only remember Haibane and Lain missing traks. I'm pretty sure every domestic release since Haibane (in August) has included at least a TV cut of the OP and ED songs. Granted that doesn't do you much good if you want the Haibane ED, but at least you know it won't be a problem with future releases. John does bring up an important point in making sure you get what you're expecting--particularly with older releases. I was more than a little surprised to discover the BG2040 soundtrack didn't include a single vocal song. And getting the right version of a song is just as much of a hassle. Most of the latest releases clearly mark whether an OP or ED is a full piece or a short TV cut, but pre-July '03 ones aren't so reliable. |
