Very awesome news, The Last Unicorn is an essential part of my childhood and this will be a good excuse to update my VHS copy with a DVD (not that we really NEED excuses).

Sorry this is my first post but I have been lurking for a long time. I wonder if there is any more information about this available? I have a copy of the Last Unicorn on DVD, but the quality is very poor. (My VHS tapes look better.) It also came with no bonus material, but I guess I can't expect much from a $10.00 DVD. I hope this release will fix the problems and have some extras and commentary.

Actually the worst thing, in my opinion, about the old DVDs was that Peter S. Beagle the writer never got any royalties from them. but apparently that's all going to change with this new release. Now I'm definitely going to go out and buy this version! |

For those how would like to support the author of the book please check out this website: http://www.conlanpress.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=LU-DVD1
You can get an autographed version of the new release and rest assured that half of your purchase will go to support the original author of the series who has been denied royalities for his work for many years. |

Now that's something I didn't know. Then that means that Topcraft was the ones that also did a lot of animation work with 'Rankin & Bass'. Stuff like the 'Hobbit', 'Return of the King', 'Flight of Dragons' and other stuff all the way up to 'Thundercats' and the rest of the dreck that came years later.
If I'm wrong correct me on this. But that cover looks way better than the last one released in the states on DVD. It's cover sucks!! Glad I waited. It's funny, once again stuff gets re-released with better and newer covers. But this is the one that gets autographed by the man himself who conceived the project. |

I used to watch this movie all the time as a kid- my mom bought me the VHS just before going into an operation once (I still have it, too )
Reading about the royalty thing makes me very glad we got our DVD copy at a yard sale for a buck. I'm gonna try and talk her into picking this version up instead. (Also seriously considering buying that autographed one for her.) |

I did not know that.
On a (not very) related note: Hayao Miyazaki did the storyboards for Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland (1993). I dont know if he was removed from the project, bailed, but he was involved. Thats why when you look, the character designs somewhat look like Ghibli's own. |

That would be great news... if I hadn't just received The Last Unicorn on DVD for Christmas... My mom probably won't let me get this new one now... Oh, well... The Last Unicorn is awesome!

Maichips have you opened/watched it yet? If it is the same DVD as the one I have, then the quality on it is very low.

Oh by all that is sacred and scantily dressed, please let there be restored AUDIO to go with the restored video. I have the budget reissue DVD and those classic songs by America have so much pop and hiss in their recording you'd swear you just pulled the LP off of a belt sander.

Wow... The Last Unicorn. I don't think I've seen this since I was 6 or 7. Ah sweet, sweet nostalgia

FOR THE LAST TIME!
topcraft did NOT evolve into studio ghibli topcraft was simply employed to do the animation for nausicca by hayao and comany. It is a COMPLETLEY different company. Please get it straight ANN. |
