I'm still ticked off that they closed down the service with little to no notice. Such is a reason I don't like streaming services. They acquire the licences, release them digitally only, and then shut down whilst still holding the licence which prevents others from releasing shows in any way.
So it wouldn't put it pass me that they were crappy to their employees the way they treated the watchers. |

Now that I think about it, isn't dramafever's very name kind of racist? Isn't it a reference to "Asian fever"? |

If this is true (and it seems to have merit) it might explain why WarnerBrothers was so quick to shut down the service--perhaps they didn't appreciate the value in Asian media. I hope the lawsuit prevails and opens up whatever cans of worms WarnerBrothers has regarding their views of diverse employees, talent, and content.

I'm going to push back against that. Streaming platforms are probably the most profitable ventures in the tech industry, an industry that famously doesn't expect profits right away. The success of niche services like Crunchyroll show that if you respect the content and the customer, you can be profitable even with competition from Netflix (which is famously spending more than it's making at the moment: https://www.polygon.com/2017/8/15/16151944/netflix-disney-debt) There are probably multiple reasons WarnerBrothers abandoned DramaFever. The way they shut down the service without notifying customers makes it clear they didn't respect customers, these allegations point to a disrespect for the employees and possibly the content itself and its potential to build a profitable niche audience. |

Good for them! The way Wb shut down DramaFever was skeevy toward customers, and just sounded mired in issues. But it is WB, so that's not shocking. And less shocking to hear from involved parties that racism was ("likely") involved. I hope they win the court case.

Streaming platforms are definitely profitable, but that might be a double edged sword. I was reading this article and it more or less insinuated it was because Amazon and Netflix basically took over the market and had tons of Asian Dramas themselves, and Warner Brother was making their own service so rather than have all the Asian stuff on a separate one, it was better to make it part of their main streaming service.
