Thats all I'm asking. Why are there no off-topic forums? Not complaining, just asking. Trying to get to know the system a bit better.

This is "Teh Rules" #1:
I can see their point in this as this is a site for anime and manga. I think that making it rule #1 is a way to ease the way for the already overloaded mods. Some threads on here do somehow or another go off-topic and the mods will let it slide to a point before they rein us up. I think that its a way to prevent flame wars on controversial topics: religion, politics, Choice/Right-to-Life, etc. We have enough arguing about sub vs. dub, 4kids, and idiots who come out and say "I hate [whatever]" and give idiotic or outdated reasons why. Probably because there are plenty of other websites out there you can go to if you simply want to socialize.

I think you'll find that this site is much more focused on adult conversation with less arguments and more discussion which i admit i havnt been too good at keeping in mind.
I find this site is just more classy like a jazz lounge rather than some hyped up nightclub. space |

That pretty much sum it up for me, every once in a while we have topic that are semi-OT or OT but not completely. This is of course the Anime News Network.....beside an OT board would get really out of hand. |

ANN is known for its etiquette and knowledge of anime. If we were to have an off-topic forum, then all the noobs would go there and there'd be no end to moderating as we know it. Plus they save space.

Not with the right moderation. Take a look at other sites that have OT folders. They manage to do just fine. |

I'm going to agree with those above who stated that the focus of this site ought to be anime/manga specific. I was thrilled to find this forum, mainly for the generally high level of discourse here. It's a welcome relief compared to con bulletins where the general content consists of "i <3 naruto because itz k00l lol" This is truly the Metafilter of anime forums. I'd hope it stays that way.
