When I first watched anime/manga, I was just sort of interested and never got really into it. I mean, no matter how good the story was, there's always this annoying voice in my head that says, "This crap is fictional."
Lemme see... if there is any anime that I was truly obssessed about, it's GTO (the manga), and Saiyuki (I know some people hate this, but who cares?)...I loved Trigun, and now I am totally obssessed with Gravitation. (does Advent Children count as well?)
It's like, to me, anime is not just some mere entertainment anymore, but almost part of my life. Wonder if anybody out there feels something like this? [/i]

Im obsessed with a lot of series
I have a very wide range of taste so it happens a lot I go bonkers about a new manga I read therefor it naturally became a part of who I am... before I really got into it, I always was a bit of an old school Dragonball nut
and that has reflected the way I got my first obsession into the anime of nowadays, which was Naruto =)

Not me, to me it's just another form of entertainment like a good book or movie. It's one I've come to depend on for good story quality but as far as obsession goes I'd have to say no, never been obsessed with any anime.

Whenever I see a really good anime, I become obsessed with it and go to all of my favorite anime sites and find out anything I can about the series. I am currently obsessed with s-CRY-ed, Scrapped Princess, and One Piece...

i first saw AKIRA on video when i was 14 (im 27 now) and have been into it ever since, though i get confused by all these series and what is releated to what, cutting series into films and so forth. I tend to stick to the features and avoid series like the latest release by jamie callum.
just bought Dead Leaves today, brilliant but wierd.

If I were to say which anime/manga I became obsessed with it would be Love Hina as it was the first manga I read but later on I found other series that I became even more obsessed with. Currently i'm obsessed with both Honey & Clover and Bleach.

Yeah, Tenchi Muyo, Ryo-Ohki OVA, largely. Still am! Especially with OVA 3 out, with the posibility of an OVA 4 in future as well.
Can't get enough,
of that Tenchi stuff.

Only a few like Bleach, Lain, and Neon Genesis Evangellion, have really been entertaining and original enough to have gotten me obsessed. Which usually only just has the effect of me losing sleep thinking about what's going to happen next, marithoning it compulsively once I buy it, or making me snatch up the series as fast as humanly possible.

That's the natural essence of being an otaku, assuming anime/manga/video-games/sci fi/your hobby as an important part of your life and not only a way of having fun. To be obessed with anything is the real meaning of otaku's way of life.
I'm "obessed" with lots of series, being Tenchi Muyo! series my fovourites of all time for it's grat characters. Other anime i'm obessed with are Project A-ko, Otaku no Video, Robot Carnival and a lot more. I think that being obessed with something or love it is really un-explainable so "reasons" don't reach the level of otakuness.
ps: English is my second language, sorry.

If by "obsessed", you mean owning every DVD, OST Soundtrack, manga, and plastering computer backgrounds and other icons all over your desktop, then yes. Yes I am. Wolf's Rain is my life.....(It's not even the best show out there, but I still enjoy for some weirdly subconscious reason. Oh well...)

heh, my very first anime obsessions were Voltron and Unico (I watched the Unico movies so often when I was little I drove my mom crazy and I threw a fit if I missed even one ep of Voltron, even if it was one I saw before). currently I'm obsessing over Wolf's Rain, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Saiyuki, and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Mohawk and I are in the same boat. Before I "reset my counter" when I received my Region 1 3rd OAV disc (thank you Funimation) I was up to 373 complete viewings of the Tenchi Muyo OAV.
Now with what's been released in the states I'm up to 17 viewings, and still smiling.

Wow.... I've never watched a series that many times! The most I've ever watched a series is probably Cowboy Bebop which I have probably watched a total of 7 or 8 times.... but...
I try not to get too obsessed with a series; I like to keep on moving. The most I will allow my self to do is, take like a day or two off or so to think and let the series melt into me. I mean a little part of me becomes obsessed kind of subconsciously. Like after I finished Kenishin I would play around with my bokken a lot more; After Hajime no Ippo I would get in a little shadow boxing thing every once in a while... After Saikano, Evangelion, Hibane Remnei I was depressed and over philosophical for a while... after Kinos Journey I wanted to get a mini motor cycle and travel the world! I could go on and on but the final point I think I’m trying to make is; every series I watch leaves a little something with me, weather it be boxing, sword play, or exploring; that is why I watch anime. If an anime can have even a minuscule effect on your real life it is worth watching!
