I've just noticed that the prices for Patlabor 2 on DVD and Blu-Ray have gone down somewhat recently. The DVD is acceptable at around $16 on Amazon, but I also saw that I can get the HK Blu-Ray for around $25 (the Japanese BR is still $100+). Is the HK BR worth it?

No, bootlegs are never worth what you pay for them, and 9 times out of 10 if you're buying something labeled as being from there it's an illegal bootleg.

...but there are legit HK Patlabor BD releases (by Panorama Distributions).

Both movies include English subs. Some details on both movies can be seen here: link.

I got both movies used from half.com for about $12 w/ shipping a few months back. The thing from Patlabor I'm finding extremely hard to find is the 2nd volume of New Files.

That's because CPM only released volume 1 and later a boxset of all three dvds to cut costs. The set is starting to get pricey so pick it up while you can.

I got both of the HK Patlabor releases from yesasia.com and they are very good quality, PQ and Audio. There are no special features, but like WTK mentioned there are english subs - well worth the price.

As mentioned earlier, this is NOT a bootleg, it's a legit release from HK. It's region locked for "REGION A".

Ever consider the limited edition DVD sets for either of the films? The packaging whoops that of any of the other releases out there. Extra discs are included for bonus content. Both have about a days worth of reading material included. Dunno how big of a Patlabor fan you are, but these sets are gorgeous. I found both brand new for under $40 each.
