Hello Everyone,

For those of you who have used the Rinkya.com service for bidding on Yahoo! Japan auctions, can you provide some advice about the site? What are your comments/remarks about the serivce? Good and Useful? Or Bad and Beware?

Rinkya is a 3rd party that bids on Yahoo! JP auctions for you. They'll also ship them to you on request (or after they've held the items for a month).

Their commission is steep, but what are you gonna do? Very few sellers ship their items internationally. And believe me, there's stuff there that you can't find on eBay on Amazon.

Is it reliable and trustworthy? Is it Credit Card/Debit Card/Money Order/Check-friendly? Any kind of information would be quiteful appreciated.

They accept credit cards and Paypal. I don't know about any other methods as those are the only ones I use.

They're very reliable in my experience. They even shipped some of my items before receiving payment.

I never trust proxy sites. Oh well, I too herd good things from them.

I guess go for it if you're looking to spend over $100 on one item. If looking for cheap stuff I don't recommend it. If buying from Japan USE EMS for shipping. I can't stress enough that EMS is really fast, insured, and has tracking. Two downsides is that the package does require a signature (not home you must pick it up at the post office), and cost a good bit. But hey, takes three days to receive something from Japan, sign me up.

I've used them once or twice, but have used SMJ more often and not had any problems with either (other than the obvious commission charges which are unavoidable). There's a thread on AoD you might find helpful.

Quick question about Rinkya for people who have used it. The "Deposit" bit confuses me a little. From what I understand you need to make a deposit of 20% of the value you plan on spending. (A $100 deposit lets you buy $500 worth of Japanese stuff) Now what I don't understand is whether or not your credit card is charged for this deposit right away, and whether or not it is deducted from your purchase. I'd like to make an ~$600 purchase from Atelier Boz and this seems to be the best/quickest way to do it. Thanks!

(I'm open to suggestions for other options as well if anyone thinks they can save me a buck Very Happy )

I don't think they actually charge your card for the deposit - they just verify that you have the funds, and they use that as a basis for limiting how many unpaid bids you can have open at once.
