What amazes me is that I can still place first despite being in ninth position. I suppose that I was the only fool who picked Johan to win it. Otherwise, how do I account for my apparent ability to pull 23+ points from out of nowhere?

Well, I can at least tell you that's not my pick. I'm still definitely a bit in shock about how well my mini-game has been going. |

I kind of guessed that already, since if we had both picked it there would be no way I could surpass you. |

Group D-29
Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise Voting For: Washu Hakubi I'm not hugely impressed by Light, and I've always had a soft spot for Lil' Washu. Group D-30 Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon vs. Daisuke Aramaki, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Daisuke Aramaki Aramaki is still just a cut above all the competition for this section. |

Oh, snap, forgot to vote. I'm not going to change much, though.
Group D-29 Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise Voting For: Light Reason: Light may have issues, man, serious issues, but he's still the most impressive entry in this bracket by a long shot, (sadly.) Who says you have to be sane to be a genius? And what's life without a few...theatrics? (In his defense, all the other characters do overdramatized stuff, too, he's just the most frequent offender.) Group D-30 Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon vs. Daisuke Aramaki, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Aramaki Reason: No competition. Oh well. |

Group D-29
Light Yagami, Death Note [ Video Clip ] vs. Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo! franchise [ Video Clip* ] This is one of the most laughable matchups of the tournament so far. How could anyone vote for Washu over Light unless it was purely out of Light hate. I can't even put forth a reasonable argument of why Washu is so outclassed here without losing all sense of my sanity. Group D-30 Maximilien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon [ Video Clip ] vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise [ Video Clip ] This is a slightly interesting face off with any obvious answer. Maximilien had ambitious ideals and a master plan both to get revenge and save the country he "loved." I think it shows quite brilliantly that although spoiler[he died in the end] that his plan was carried out and more or less successful. Even considering this fact, Aramaki still wins. His knowledge of the world and passion for justice are unmatched and he always, with the help of his subordinates, accomplishes his goals. |

Thankyou yet again Dorcas_Aurelia for the template and Minigame. Also, I just realised that I haven't been thanking ccdx for doing the video clips and tournament ladder. I hope I am not too late, although better late than never. So thankyou to you too.
Group D-29 Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise Voting For: Light. Reason: This is a pushover. Light's clip may be cheesy, and it doesn't show him at his best. But Washu is a good example of how people can vote for a character based on how much they like them rather than based on their merits. Possibility of Change: None whatsoever. Group D-30 Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Aramaki. Reason: Maximillien has done very well for a character who was one of the last to be nominated. And in my mind he almost is the equal of Aramaki. Almost, but of course, not quite. Still, he is far better than most give him credit for. If it was a Maximillien versus Washu matchup I would vote for him in a heartbeat. But alas, not to be. Possibility of Change: I'm pretty confident in my decision. It will be Round 5 in just nineteen or so hours; won't that be interesting (and fun). I can't wait. |

Okay, I just did a tally of the votes. Provided I didn't miss anything (and even if I did, given the numbers it probably wouldn't change things much), they are as follows:
Light 12, Washu 6 and Aramaki 17, Robespierre 1 For some reason I had thought Washu was a bit closer than she is. Oh well, good for my mini-game! ![]() Last edited by marie-antoinette on Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:24 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Oh, come on. Contrary to what you and ccdx have said, Washu has plenty enough merits to be here and get some votes without relying on the "how much they like them" factor. She's the classic semi-mad genius and arguably the strongest of the inventor/creator-type characters in the tournament. No one who's going to make the final 8 could come up with the stuff that she does at the drop of a hat even with access to the kind of technology she has. While other characters are lauded for their ability to manipulate events in the manner of their choosing, she merely devises workable ways to destroy the entire universe or individual galaxies, travel through time (and communicate across it in real-time), capture ultra-powerful entities with comparatively limited resources, develop her own ultra-powerful life forms and space ships, and dupe her franchises' evil masterminds and/or figure out ways around them. Unfortunately inventor/technical-types haven't been widely-respected in the tournament voting. I've already cast my vote for Light and agree that he should win here, but this is not the utter mismatch that we see in the lower half of the bracket. |

Round 4 Group D is now closed.
And it happens with the tournament's second-lowest vote total, too. Kinda depressing at that. Anyway, the exact results can be found here. The group ends with the expected massacre at the low end and a decided victory (but not without some resistance) at the high end. Next round should be much, much closer. And speaking of next round, the Group Finals will double up groups, beginning with A&B. This is the same format we used in the last tournament. And now the updated. . . Power Rankings (seed order in parenthesis) 1. Aramaki, 92.7% (6) 2. The Count, 90.6% (4) 3. Horo, 82.4% (-) 4. Johan, 79.1% (7) 5. L, 76.9% (1) 6. Light Yagami, 73.2% (2) 7. Lelouche, 71.4% (3) 8. Shikamaru, 69.3% (8) Comments: Looks like I picked right on the seeds, as 7/8 survived. That Horo made it this far is a big surprise to me, especially given that she's one of only two characters from a series not yet officially available in the U.S. and the only character whose series has been around for a year or less. Not a disappointing surprise, however! Looking back at the tournament so far, it has clearly favored mastermind-types, as four of the Elite Eight fall into that category. Of the remainder, we have one leader, one detective, one tactician, and one sly, cunning type, so there is some variety. No technical specialists made it this far, which is kinda surprising. Next round will be posted as soon as I double-check the last couple of clips. |

Round 5: Groups A and B Finals are now closed.
As with past rounds, we have all-new video clips for both pairings. Pick wisely, as these should be some hotly-contested matches! And so nothing in the rankings actually change this round, but the 16th and 17th positions are now final. spoiler[It would have required Washu winning the entire tournament for Lydia to move up to 16th, anyway.] It has now been 5 rounds that Marie and Olliff have been tied for first, and it looks like that won't change until at least the end of the quarter-finals. There are still 6 people in the running for first, and 3 more who could take second or third. With only four rounds to go, this could be an exciting finish. Ooh, me first!
![]() L, Death Note vs. Shikamaru Nara, Naruto Voting For: L Reason: Shikamaru has been on weak salt for a while, and he absolutely can't compare to L's quirky originality and well-demonstrated brilliant mind, bwa ha ha. The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Horo the Wise, Spice and Wolf Voting For: The Count Reason: This was a toughie for reasons I've already covered. In the end it came down to the tenacity with which the Count pursues his passions. Both are easily swayed by their emotions and make terrible mistakes based on those emotions, but the Count accepts and reaffirms his choice, and let's face it, he's a mastermind. Fluent in many languages, an excellent judge of character, dynamic in social manipulation, an excellent investor, and has a wicked talent for seeing the true flaws in others and how to exploit them to not take vengeance with a simple execution, but find the perfect way to drag them down to hell as well. He is assisted by excellent source material, yes, but keeping in mind that the series actually dumbs him down a bit through the plot device of the spirit of Gankutsuou, and also that the demises of his foes were rewritten from the original novel but still perfectly fitting, I give him the nod over Horo. She's very crafty and has a way with words, but...she is only self-professedly "wise." She has deep issues and is a fascinating character, but almost too "human" (ironically) to be a true devious mastermind. |
