Round 3 Group C is now closed.
Results will shortly be posted here. Only one race ultimately proved to be even competitive, much less close. Next up, within the next half-hour, will be the final Group for Round 3. |

Minigame results here.
I would like to thank DerekTheRed for creating an array to help me sort out the possible rankings of those involved in the minigame. It has and will save me hours of manual calculations. Also, check the scores, marie is only 3 points ahead of second place now, and there are 7 others within 11 points. While a few people may be out of the running, the results are far from settled. |

Round 3 Group D is now closed.
Last group for this round! Considering that we have survivors of a tie paired up against a narrow victor in D-27, at least one of these contests should be contentious. Once again, thanks to ccdx for the video clips. If anyone wishes to recommend a clip for a survivor of the 3rd round, please PM them to him ASAP. Also, at the end of the round the Power Rankings will pop up for the first time. Group D-25
Light Yagami, Death Note [ Video Clip ] vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton [ Video Clip ] I'm going to go with Keaton because of what others have said and because Light irritates me. Group D-26 Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo! franchise [ Video Clip ] vs. Joker, Read or Die [ Video Clip ] Sticking with the Great Washu because she is the most brilliant mind in the universe. Group D-27 Medicine Seller, Mononoke [ Video Clip ] vs. Maximilien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon [ Video Clip ] vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon [ Video Clip ] Maximilien Robespierre because I think that he's the strongest of the group. Group D-28 Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku [ Video Clip ] vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise [ Video Clip ] I've been with Shi Ryuuki so far and I just can't bring myself to give up just yet. |

Match D-25 Light Yagami (Death Note)
Light's cat-and-mouse game with L is impressive enough for me to give him the vote. Match D-26: Washu Hakubi (Tenchi Muyo) As much as I like Joker, Washu has him completely overwhelmed in brains and talents. Match D-27: Maximillian Robespierre (Le Chevalier d'Eon) Judging from his merits, Robespierre seems to have more flexibility with his brains than his two opponents. Match D-28: Daisuke Aramaki (Ghost in the Shell) Both have leadership abilities, but the Chief has more diverse areas of knowledge than Shi does. |

Group D-25
Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton Voting For: Light Reason: I can't let my dislike of this character influence my vote, if I knew more of Keaton, I would probably have voted for him, but the clip alone is not enough to overcome what I know Light is capable of. Possibility of Change: With some decent arguments, pretty good. Group D-26 Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise vs. Joker, Read or Die Voting For: Washu Reason: To be honest, I'm just not that impressed with Joker. Possibility of Change: Low Group D-27 Medicine Seller, Mononoke vs. Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon Voting For: Medicine Seller Reason: I've seen some of all three series, while Balalaika is my favorite character out of the three, I have to give the edge to the Medicine Seller, he's got the brains, and he shows it in every arc he is in. Possibility of Change: Low Group D-24 Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Aramaki Daisuke Reason: If I had to place my life under the command of one fictional anime character, Aramaki would be the guy. His ability to handle any situation, be it tactical, political, or interactions with others, make him a strong contender to win the whole thing. This was a great clip, but even it doesn't show how far ahead of the game he has to think to keep members of his team safe. Possibility of Change: None |

Wow, well, D-25 was the only match up where I knew both competitiors and in the other 3 match ups, I've either never seen the show or haven't seen it in ages.
D-25: Taichi Keaton Reason: Against Keaton, Light doesn't deserve a total victory. Also, the bringing up of magical powers access once again (I don't want to go too heavily into this, but that really was the only way for Light to win in the series was through a Death Note somehow, someway (even if not his own)). But I think that Keaton seems like a more realistic genius than Light. Shame he's up against a seed already! Like, if Light were stranded in the desert, I don't think he'd have the brains to survive for a week, and while he goes up well against other smart opponents, he never really ever goes up against something that wants to kill him (L doesn't really want to kill Light and Mello spoiler[wasn't terribly successful at whatever weird thing he was always up to either.]) Unlike Light's plans, I could really see pretty much all of Keaton's plans being effective in real life and he's more resourceful than Light can be. They're both highly entertaining and intelligent characters, hopefully this will convince some people to at least get some Master Keaton DVDs from TRSI's bargain bin. I'll probably end up voting for the winner of this round next round either way. Change: nope, not this time D-26: Joker Reason: Washu wasn't as impressive as I remember and Joker didn't seem to leave any openings, evan against people with magic powers. Change: low? D-27: Maximilien Robespierre Reason: Tough call, I wasn't overly impressed with either and I didn't really understand Robespierre's clip since I haven't seen any of the series. If anyone can make a good argument for Medicine Seller or Balalaika, I'd be willing to change my vote easily. Robespierre mostly got me on promise, but I'll say that Medicine Seller has the most entertaining clip of the three (and I appreciate his Hylian ears and sense of personal entertainment) Change: very high, just give me a push in any direction D-28: Aramaki Daisuke Reason: For once, both clips managed to impress me, but I preferred Aramaki Daisuke's style, so I'm going for him, if only by a nudge. Change: convince me otherwise |

Group D-25
Light Yagami, Death Note [ Video Clip ] vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton [ Video Clip ] Although this isn't the toughest competition Light will come up against in this group, Keaton is still a worthy contender from what I saw. Unfortunately he just can't measure up to Light's formidable and unquestionable genius.
While I can kind of agree with that, I personally didn't think those opposed to him in the series were all that dumb. Certainly less than some of the other characters in this tournament. And in the end out besting L, another amazing heavy weight in this tournament, with a brilliant plan shows he could probably beat nearly anyone out there in a head to head matchup. Group D-26 Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo! franchise [ Video Clip ] vs. Joker, Read or Die [ Video Clip ] I will reluctantly vote for Washu here. Both don't seem all the great. Washu is just surrounded by ridiculous circumstances and is also quite energetic and frankly, insane, to be taken to seriously. Joker is a good villian, but doesn't strike me as a strong minded person. Group D-27 Medicine Seller, Mononoke [ Video Clip ] vs. Maximilien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon [ Video Clip ] vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon [ Video Clip ] I'm with Key here. Three choices that aren't very impressive at all. Medicine Seller seems very intelligent and adept at fighting and solving mysteries related to Mononoke spirits but not much else. Balalaika is not all that smart. A great leader, but very rough in the intelligence department. I guess my vote goes to Maximilien Robespierre. Definitely smart, but portrayed much more as a great villain. Group D-28 Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku [ Video Clip ] vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise [ Video Clip ] Aramaki painfully easily. There are other moments in the Story of Saiunkoku series were Shi just embarrass himself in the intelligence area. While Aramaki is always on top of his game, calm, cool, and focused. |

Group D-25
Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton Voting For: Taichi Hiraga-Keaton *changed* Reason: The guides tell me Keaton is the more versatile of the two, but the videos show Yagami as a little more clever here. Yagami's overthinking (first excerpt) nearly does him in though for me, and I suspect Keaton to be smarter than he's shown here. Possibility of Change: Thanks for convincing me of Keaton, Derek, SophistiCat and Abunai. Group D-26 Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise vs. Joker, Read or Die Voting For: Washu Hakubi Reason: Hakubi doesn't seem super-intelligent here, but I know Joker is only a mastermind by vague implication. Possibility of Change: Yes. Group D-27 Medicine Seller, Mononoke vs. Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon Voting For: Balalaika *also changed* Reason: After watching several episodes of Black Lagoon, I think Balalaika is the best of these. Possibility of Change: Already changed. Group D-28 Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku vs. Daisuke Aramaki, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Daisuke Aramaki Reason: I'm not sure of Ryuuki, and this video doesn't convince me. Aramaki I know to be super-intelligent though. Possibility of Change: Slim. Last edited by Kimiko_0 on Mon Dec 22, 2008 6:55 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Group D-25
Voting for: Light Yagami, Death Note Reasons: Because even though I still don't think he's quite as smart as he thinks he is (he gets too close to being caught too often), he still is a very clever guy. Group D-26 Voting for: Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo! franchise Reasons: Comments, mainly, and the impressions that I've gotten from previous rounds. Group D-27 Voting for: Maximilien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon Reasons: Again, comments and previous round impressions. Groupd D-28 Voting for: Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise Reasons: While I love Ryuuki and think he is pretty awesome...I'm going to have to go against him now. Maybe once he's been emperor for a bit longer and has more experience to go along with raw ability, he'd be able to make it farther. |

Light Yagami, Death Note [ Video Clip ] vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton [ Video Clip ] Light is the better choice. Group D-26 Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo! franchise [ Video Clip ] vs. Joker, Read or Die [ Video Clip ] I previously voted against both of these characters, so this isn't a fun vote for me. I guess Joker. Group D-27 Medicine Seller, Mononoke [ Video Clip ] vs. Maximilien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon [ Video Clip ] vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon [ Video Clip ] I am only a bit familiar with Black Lagoon, so that eliminates that character, and between the other two it doesn't seem like there is overwhelming support for one over the other and I haven't been super-swayed either way, so Medicine Seller gets my vote. Group D-28 Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku [ Video Clip ] vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise [ Video Clip ] Aramaki gets my vote here, next to Light, this is the next easiest choice. |

Group D-25
Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton Voting For: Master Keaton Reason: Even though Light is going to win, and I'm voting against my bracket here, I like Keaton because his brand of intelligence is more far reaching. He really is a jack of all trades, and a master of them all. It's his super well roundedness that really does it for me. I'll check out the videos later, but off the top of my head, I can recall that Keaton can bluff with the best of 'em (he puts his finger in a criminal's gun barrel and tells him that if he pulls the trigger the gun will explode and kill them both). He knows about the finer things in life (he can identify vintages of wines by taste, knows all about growing roses, is good at cooking Chinese, English and Japanese dishes). Plus he was an SAS operative (I think they imply that he was one of the commandos who retook the Iranian Embassy in 1980), so he knows cold weather and hot weather survival, how to disarm bombs in creative ways, how to breach buildings. He's also book smart. He is a college professor and an archaeologist. So... Vote for Keaton. Group D-26 Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise vs. Joker, Read or Die Voting For: Joker Group D-27 Medicine Seller, Mononoke vs. Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon Voting For: Robspierre Reason: I'm going to break from my bracket again and side with Key. After some reflection, I can't really figure out why I voted for Balalaika last round ![]() Group D-24 Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku vs. Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Aramaki FTW |

D-25 : Keaton
I thought I'd vote for Light given his strong potential, but Keaton strikes me as more versatile. Light became more of a one-trick pony by the end of Death Note. This doesn't seem to be the case with Keaton. D-26 : Washu I'm unfamiliar with either character, but a title like galactic genius sounds like Washu is the smarter of the two. D-27 : Balalaika None of these stand out exceptionally, so I'm going with this guy. Doesn't matter, anyway, since whoever wins here loses against Aramaki. D-28 : Aramaki I look forward to his duel against Johan. Last edited by Sophisticat on Mon Dec 22, 2008 9:41 pm; edited 1 time in total |
