Round 2 Group B is now closed.
Again, pics are carried over from last round. Looks like we have some tough ones this round as masterminds are already starting to square off against masterminds in this mastermind-heavy quarter. Let's get to business! EDIT: Thanks to LydiaDianne, we now have a pic for Satsuki. I am equally shocked that Near was defeated by Motoko Kusanagi. ![]() |

I am only surprised by the margin. Near is a widely-hated character and is little-respected despite probably being even more intelligent than L. I'm looking forward to seeing how people vote on some of the matches in this round, especially the sure-to-be-hotly-contested Dante vs. Aizen one. I may hold off on voting a couple of days to see how opinions go. |

Group B-17
The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Dr. Kenzou Tenma, Monster vs. Voting For: Dr. Tenma Reason: going with what I know, was only marginally convinced in B-1 round by the Count. Possibility of Change: low Group B-18 Kyoya Ohtori, Ouran High School Host Club vs. Xellos, Slayers Voting For: Kyoya Ohtori Reason: I can appreciate someone who puts his brains to personal use Possibility of Change: medium Group B-19 Naraku, Inuyasha Akio Ohtori, Revolutionary Girl Utena vs. Voting For: Akio Ohtori Reason: guide, and I cannot stand Inuyasha. Vote against Naraku Possibility of Change: low Group B-20 Eriol Hiiragizawa, CardCaptor Sakura Satsuki Yatoji, X TV vs. Voting For: Satsuki Yatoji Reason: on the basis that I am shocked that Eriol advanced at all, he's mostly a pawn designed to look smart. A vote against Eriol Possibility of Change: none Group B-21 Lain Iwakura, Serial Experiments Lain Drosselmeyer, Princess Tutu vs. Voting For: Drosselmeyer Reason: another match-up where I am familiar with both characters! I vote Drosselmeyer because spoiler[manipulating everyone in a series, easy, doing it to the point where the characters don't know they're being manipulated and can barely do anything about it even after they find out, genius.] Sure, Lain is good with computers and absorbing information, but not much else... Possibility of Change: none Group B-22 Horo the Wise, Spice and Wolf Dr. Franken Stein, Soul Eater vs. Voting For: Dr. Fraken Stein Reason: its a dumb reason, but its because one of my friends dressed up as him for Halloween. That and the guide. It was an awesome costume by the way. Possibility of Change: medium Group B-23 Yoshito Kikuchi, GTO vs. Jim Hawkins, Outlaw Star Voting For: Yoshito Kikuchi Reason: I love them both dearly, but Kikuchi for his photos. Jim's a great tactician and business man, but you just cannot beat some of the things Kikuchi does in all hilarity. Possibility of Change: very high, I'm having trouble hitting the "submit" button as is. I won't officially potentially change my vote until at least the weekend though. Group B-24 Dante, Fullmetal Alchemist Aizen Souskue, Bleach Voting For: Dante Reason: Aizen was shooting fish in a barrel and never managed to impress me. Mostly a vote against Aizen. Possibility of Change: low Wow, I think I voted against more characters than I voted for... |

Group B-17
The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Dr. Kenzou Tenma, Monster I'm going with The Count. While I haven't seen either series, comments made about both characters have made me thing that he's the stronger one. Group B-18 Kyohya Ohtori, Ouran High School Host Club vs. Xellos, Slayers TRSI has sent Ouran and I'm waiting for UPS to deliver! Sticking with Kyoya Group B-19 Naraku, Inuyasha vs. Akio Ohtori, Revolutionary Girl Utena I'm of two minds with this - Naruaku had no problem spoiler[ killing off things that were at one time himself] and Akio spoiler[slept with his own sister] so it's rather hard to decide but because IY's ending sucked...Akio gets my vote. Group B-20 Eriol Hiiragizawa, CardCaptor Sakura vs. Satsuki Yatoji, X TV Hmmm, two characters that I really enjoy but who to pick? The girl who could make spoiler[cables come out of the ground and attack people] or the boy who carefully plotted to have the title character spoiler[do things to power up her skills so that she would be stronger than him]. I was going to go with Satsuki but now that I've written what I've written, my vote goes to Eriol Group B-21 Lain Iwakura, Serial Experiments Lain vs. Drosselmeyer, Princess Tutu Drosselmeyer because he knew what everyone was going to do in advance. Group B-22 Horo the Wise, Spice and Wolf vs. Dr. Franken Stein, Soul Eater Franken Stein because of previous comments. Group B-23 Yoshito Kikuchi, Great Teacher Onizuka vs. Jim Hawking, Outlaw Star Yoshito Kikuchi because of previous comments. Group B-24 Dante, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Aizen Sousuke, Bleach I hate both of these characters for what they did but I hate Aizen more. ************ As for the mini-game: I'm still la-ast! I'm still la-ast! ![]() |

Another bracket, more voting!
Match B-17: Count of Monte Cristo (Gankutsuou) The Count's a manipulator, Tenma's the manipulated. Nuff said. Match B-18: Xellos (Slayers) Anyone who keep their identity secret for most of the series and mess with the heads of the protagonists can earn my vote. Match B-19: Akio Ootori (Revolutionary Girl Utena) A close call considering both characters have deceived much of the casts in both their respective anime titles. But, I give Akio the slight edge since he was more direct with his manipulations than Naraku was. Match B-20: Eriol Hiiragizawa (Card Captor Sakura) Satsuki isn't a people person when it comes to delivering her smarts. Eriol has deceived and constantly tested Sakura and her friends with his dual-faced personality. Having knowledge inherited from his past life as Clow Reed is a plus. Match B-21: Drosselmeyer (Princess Tutu) Lain ain't much of a social butterfly when it comes to demonstrating her intelligence directly. Drosselmeyer's manipulation of the events that take place in his world earn him my vote. Match B-22: Horo the Wise (Spice and Wolf) Franken Stein's talents are limited to the battlefield. Besides being able to deceive the most tricky of merchants, Horo is sly enough to notice the depth of any situation she finds herself in with Lawrence thanks to centuries of experience. So, Horo earns my vote once again. Match B-23: Jim Hawking (Outlaw Star) As much as I don't like the idea of Jim advancing against Yoichi last round, I have to vote for him in this match. He demonstrates more areas of intelligence than Kikuchi outside of computers which include budgeting and spaceship repairs. Match B-24: Aizen Sousuke (Bleach) I expect this to be a tight match considering both operated behind the scenes in creating the havoc that took place in both their respective titles. But, I give this match to Aizen since he's managed to stay a step ahead with things while keeping his cool. Dante spoiler[got too caught up in her own desires, which cost her dearly against Gluttony by the end of FMA.] |

I apologise for not voting, but my intended vote for Char would not have entirely closed the gap.
By the way, am I correct in saying that marie-antoinette had a perfect round? If so, congratulations are in order. |

Coolness! And thanks, though I am still slightly in shock at how well I am doing. If one or more of the seeds fall early though, I may have problems. Also here is a picture of Satsuki. Who is female, btw. http://www.hyjoo.com/sun/X/persos/satsuki.jpg Will vote later. |

I fully expect to drop from the middle of the pack in the mini-game to the bottom any round now.
![]() Group B-17 The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Dr. Kenzou Tenma, Monster Voting For: The Count Reason: I really need to see both of these series sometime, but The Count seems like a stronger choice. Possibility of Change: Low Group B-18 Kyoya Ohtori, Ouran High School Host Club vs. Xellos, Slayers Voting For: Xellos Reason: In my opinion, I think Xellos is getting less credit than he deserves in the tournament. I expect him to lose this round, but I still want to toss a vote his way. Possibility of Change: Medium Group B-19 Naraku, Inuyasha vs. Akio Ohtori, Revolutionary Girl Utena Voting For: Naraku Reason: Toss up, going with the one I know, even if I'm not crazy about voting for him. Possibility of Change: High Group B-20 Eriol Hiiragizawa, CardCaptor Sakura vs. Satsuki Yatoji, X TV Voting For: Satsuki Yatoji Reason: More a vote against Eriol. Possibility of Change: Low Group B-21 Lain Iwakura, Serial Experiments Lain vs. Drosselmeyer, Princess Tutu Voting For: Drosselmeyer Reason: Toss up, I think both are fairly weak, but I'll give the slight edge to Drosselmeyer for now. Possibility of Change: High Group B-22 Horo the Wise, Spice and Wolf vs. Dr. Franken Stein, Soul Eater Voting For: Horo the Wise Reason: I love Stein's character, but Horo is one of the most cleverly written characters in recent memory for me. I really believe she could stand up against some of the seeds. Possibility of Change: Very low. Group B-23 Yoshito Kikuchi, GTO vs. Jim Hawkins, Outlaw Star Voting For: Jim Hawkins Reason: Jim is one of the most intelligent characters for his age in all of anime, he probably won't move on this round, but I still feel that he deserves some votes. Possibility of Change: Medium Group B-24 Dante, Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Aizen Souskue, Bleach Voting For: Aizen Souskue Reason:Aizen is kind of a one-trick pony at this point, but his one scheme was masterful, I don't belive he should be around much longer, but for now I'll give him the nod. Possibility of Change: Low. Last edited by guet on Tue Nov 04, 2008 9:15 am; edited 1 time in total |

Group B-17
The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Dr. Kenzou Tenma, Monster Voting For: The Count Reason: I've read the original book (in French, as it should be!) and even in the anime incarnation he still feels superior to Tenma. Group B-18 Kyoya Ohtori, Ouran High School Host Club vs. Xellos, Slayers Voting For: Kyoya Ohtori Group B-19 Naraku, Inuyasha Akio Ohtori, Revolutionary Girl Utena vs. Voting For: Akio Ohtori Reason: One look at my avatar says all. Group B-20 Eriol Hiiragizawa, CardCaptor Sakura Satsuki Yatoji, X TV Voting For: Satsuki Yatoji Group B-21 Lain Iwakura, Serial Experiments Lain Drosselmeyer, Princess Tutu vs. Voting For: Lain Iwakura Reason: Net manipulation ftw. Group B-22 Horo the Wise, Spice and Wolf Dr. Franken Stein, Soul Eater vs. Voting For: Horo the Wise Reason: Very well-developed character neatly tied into the merchandising aspect of SaP. Stein is your regular garden variety shounen "mad genius". Group B-23 Yoshito Kikuchi, GTO vs. Jim Hawkins, Outlaw Star Voting For: Yoshito Kikuchi Reason: Jim Hawkins has the experience, but from what I've seen, Kikuchi has the bigger brains. Group B-24 Dante, Fullmetal Alchemist Aizen Souskue, Bleach Voting For: Dante Reason: Aizen only had one scheme and gets the rest accomplished because he's powerful. No major brainpower expended here. |

Group B-17
The Count of Monte Cristo, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo vs. Dr. Kenzou Tenma, Monster vs. Voting For: Count Reason: Well, DUH. Tenma shouldn't even be in this tourney, in my humble opinion. (You know, no one's really ever humble about their opinion if they share it and it's to the contrary of mass opinion...why is that phrase even there?) Group B-18 Kyoya Ohtori, Ouran High School Host Club vs. Xellos, Slayers Voting For: Kyoya Reason: I think I actually screwed this over on my bracket, which was supposed to be entirely my opinion. Xellos? Whoops. Oh well, I think Kyoya should take this round hands down. He's a very hard-working brilliant fellow, and Xellos...well, he's actually very smart, but he's just not as fascinating as Kyoya, and he does have a nasty temper issue where he breaks into bad cases of the sillies...like everyone else on Slayers. ![]() Group B-19 Naraku, Inuyasha Akio Ohtori, Revolutionary Girl Utena vs. Voting For: Naraku Reason: Incredible longevity of a villain plotting. I don't care for Inu-Yasha, but between Sango, Miroku, and even bullheaded Koga from time to time, he had some real intellectual rivalry but continually stayed one step ahead of the demon/human bunch. He certainly LOOKS like he's plotting every time we see him and he's come up with some wicked twists in an otherwise pretty awful show. (In my opinion.) Akio was...well, he had superb networking skills and got what he wanted done through a LOT of money and sleeping with every guy and girl on the show. But those skills, though they involve some cleverness, don't really bite me as mastermind-worthy. Group B-20 Eriol Hiiragizawa, CardCaptor Sakura Satsuki Yatoji, X TV vs. Voting For: Satsuki Reason: Guide and a definite vote AGAINST Eriol, who wasn't smart so much as very pretty, very old, and "the great 'foe'" of a little girl. Eh. Group B-21 Lain Iwakura, Serial Experiments Lain Drosselmeyer, Princess Tutu vs. Voting For: Lain Reason: Her intelligence is kind of there "just because" so maybe she's not a "big contender" but that "just because" is a lot, I mean look at her room! ![]() Group B-22 Horo the Wise, Spice and Wolf Dr. Franken Stein, Soul Eater vs. Voting For: Horo Reason: Yeah, Horo's a rather witty wolf-woman. She's very quotable, and repays Lawrence's kindness with a new bag of tricks in every circumstance that is beyond my knowledge of economics to even comprehend at all. Stein...liked to dissect people and knew how to fight. I really didn't see much in him besides that he has the mad scientist "look" for him to place in this tourney, really. Group B-23 Yoshito Kikuchi, GTO vs. Jim Hawking, Outlaw Star Voting For: Yoshito Reason: I didn't vote for Jim last round, and he's definitely out of his league here. Yoshito is clearly a crafty anal feller, and Jim is responsible and experienced, but not really a crazy genius in the truest sense, so Yoshito's a better choice. Group B-24 Dante, Fullmetal Alchemist Aizen Sousuke, Bleach Voting For: Aizen Reason: They're eerily similar archetypes, but one thing people fail to mention about Dante is that she's not so much "brilliant" as very very very powerful. Think about it. She's spoiler[old enough to have been with Amestris since its conception as a country and put the Fuhrer in command. From there, she has been deceptive and is very crafty, but her emotions constantly screw up her plans and lead to her setting some rather asinine and desire-driven goals to begin with.] Crafty woman, yes, but almost a special case. Vote definitely goes to Aizen, who is also a jerkbag, but I'm surprised at the malice: I didn't think he was THAT bad. Group B-25 McCain, R Obama, D Voting For: McCain (Gasp! A tie! The only way to solve this is through examination of them hangin' chads!) |
