Wow like the car a lot, I can't comment about the price though.

To give folks an idea of its specs, this is from the topspeed.com article called "2014 Mitsuoka Orochi Final Edition"
Quote: | Year:
2014
make:
Mitsuoka
Model:
Orochi
price:
$ 125000
Engine:
V6
Horsepower @ RPM:
233
Torque @ RPM:
242
Displacement:
3.3 L
0-60 time:
6 sec. (Est.)
Top Speed:
155 mph (Est.) |
Aside from maybe the materials inside it, I don't know this version is that expensive if it and its variant only go that fast
If they made the hp/torque to at least 400 with the 0-60 between 3-4.5 seconds and gave it a top speed of at least 175 mph, I could see the price being more justified.
You can get a new Nissan GTR for less,

Some people just don't know what high end means.

How would you define "high end"?

Apparently, it's a discontinued model, also, it's a one-of-a-kind thing with the mecha designer's art. That adds value.

High end = Luxury goods in this case. you pay for status, not the product. Do you really think BMW, Gucci is worth more just because those logo are on those products? You pay more for less or the same.

Whomever buys it, will do so for because of the artistic value added by Ikuto Yamashita's design. There's some beautiful work there.

These Japan 7-elevens are intense. I wouldn't pay for the car, but it would be kind of cool to get a picture with it before, i'm assuming, someone stores it away.
Or maybe there will just be some cool person driving an eva car around Japan.
Stopping to get a soda at 7-Eleven.

Now that's ONE beautiful car. Well, someone with money to toss away will buy it. 16 million yen is nothing to some collector.

I love the design of the Orochi but I hate the artist's design on it. The colors are all over the place.

Nice car. Fugly paint job. Looks like the Psycedelic '60's threw up all over it.

There you have it. In Japan, 7-Eleven even sells cars.

That got me thinking: I don't know much about cars, but why is high acceleration and high top speed such a big deal? They'd both be incredibly dangerous on the streets, and going that fast in public would get the instant attention of the police.
Are cars with super-acceleration and super-speed just mainly used on drag strips, open deserts, and other places where you can just travel in a straight line with nothing in the way?

I always felt "high end" can also refer to something meant for personal use and whose components are made with the highest available quality material and/or services. That is, when the maker comes to a decision regarding parts and raw materials, he or she will always pick the highest quality option regardless of price.
Each of those pinball machines seen in the photograph are $8,500 whereas at least one other manufacturer sells new-in-box machines for less than half of that (and used good-condition machines from the 90's sell for about $1,000, for the most part). The reason is because it really does cost that much to make these machines and keep the company financially stable. Every Big Lebowski machine is made by hand. Every pop song used in the movie got licensed to appear in this machine. If you own a Big Lebowski and it gets a malfunction, they will personally fly over to where you live and fix it, albeit temporarily. Since it's so expensive, nearly all of the buyers will be keeping it in their garages or basements for personal use, limiting people who play them to themselves, family, and friends if that; you'd be very lucky to see one in public for everyone to play.
I think that defines "high-end" too--you're paying not for the prestige (though there is some involved), but for the ridiculous level of quality.

And if I did win that, then that would also be another $3,000 plus tax/import/export fees for someone to ship that beast to me in the states. No.
