The box set will include the anime's English dub in 5.1-channel sound, but it will not include subtitles.

Bummer. The most annoying thing about the dub is that they keep mispronouncing Mireille's name. (BTW I prefer dubs, unless the English script screws something up.)

I can't remember where I saw it, but I read Matt Greenfield quoted as saying they made a conscious decision to pronounce her name the way she would have pronounced it instead of how it was pronounced in the Japanese dub. So basically he made a sadly illiterate decision to mispronounce it.

Mireille would have pronounced her name just like it's spelled (mee-ray), but the English dub pronounces it like it's spelled Mirielle (mir-ee-el).

Not having the subtitles means English-speaking viewers would be forced to listen to the English dub. Oh well, my ADV DVDs still have the subtitles.

I'm a bit apprehensive because all the Flying Dog concert blu-rays that I own - Yuki Kajiura Live vol. #4, Yuki Kajiura Live vol. #9, Yuuka Nanri's concert blu-ray *don't* have proper pop-up menus (ie ones that you can use without stopping what's currently playing). Given that Flying Dog is part of Victor, I hope that Victor could clarify about the menus on the Noir blu-rays.

I quite liked this series, in addition to the similar Madlax. I've got the ADV DVD's of Noir and if the Blu-ray edition is picked up for a North American release, I'll buy it.

For the remastered blu-ray, all the pauses will be extended by at least ten minutes.

But seriously, I never got around to finishing this one. Just like 12 or 16 episodes or something, and that was it. Came on Starz, but I forgot.

I am very interested in importing this set because Noir is one of best looking anime series I have ever seen, and having it on BD could be great. However, I am a bit hesitant because I do not know if it was animated using cel animation or digital paint.

I am assuming it used cel animation because the anime is from 2001, and I usually see reverse telecine used to remaster cel animation anime. Does any one have a better idea as to how was Noir animated?

This is no doubt my most favorite and most important Japanese anime title to me!

Where Cowboy Bebop got me interested, Noir totally pulled me into the world of Japanese anime when it was first released back in the early 2000's.

Since then, I have watch Noir numerous times over the years as well as hundreds of other Japanese anime titles. This is actually my main form of entertainment today. I watch some sports and movies. No TV sitcoms, reality shows, or dramas.

I love the way Mireille was pronounced in the English dub! I really enjoyed the English dub overall and hope no one try to replace it or redo it. Shelley Calene-Black as Mireille and Monica Rial as Kirika where great in the leading roles.

But what does not including subtitles actually refer to? Does the English dub lack Japanese subtitles? Or does the Japanese dub lack English subtitles?

Maybe this can jumpstart the live-action TV series. Smile

not to sound like the bitter fanboy but why is this series even worth the upgrade, the dialogue was terrible the pacing terrible the action scenes and the music its saving graces. i just can't get behind this series my friend recommended this series so we sat and watched it together got about 1/2 way through it took some alcohol but we only got 1/2 way through it. so for those of you who look fondly on it try rewatching it again and see if you still enjoy it.

I rewatched it, and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. Great anime remains great, no matter how many years go by.

Mind if I ask you what are the best animes you have seen? Who knows, you might have crap taste, and I would be able to ridicule them.

Noir was animated on cels, I've seen a fair number of them for sale, plus a few were on display at the special screening they did.
